Marlin Model 1888 .38-40 Winchester 26" Octagon Lever Action Rifle, ANTIQUE

Lot # 1330 (Sale Order: 328 of 384)

Marlin Model 1888 .38-40 Winchester 26" Octagon Lever Action Rifle MFD 1889 ANTIQUE

Our Assessment: Marlin's Model 1888, one of the 4,312 produced with a 26" barrel between 1888 and 1889. It has a top ejection port. It looks like a prime cowboy piece that probably saw a lot of action. The bore is not the worst we have seen come out of the 1880's it has a genuine charm from its age and use. The action functions properly. This would make a nice addition to a Marlin collection that is lacking one of the lesser seen models. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Marlin

Model: 1888

Serial Number: 24859

Year of Manufacture: 1889 ANTIQUE

Caliber: .38-40 Winchester

Action Type: Lever Action Rifle With Full Length Tubular Magazine

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED OCTOBER 11 1887" and at the receiver with "38-W". The underside of the trigger plate is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: The octagonal barrel is 26" in length.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a German silver blade dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a V-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The upper tang is drilled, tapped, and filled in one place for installing a tang sight (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are smooth walnut with a capped forearm, straight grip and comb, and a crescent buttplate. There is a repaired portion of wood on the bottom rear of the forearm. There is also a small repaired spot on the right side of the buttstock just behind the grip. There are several scattered compressions, scuffs, draglines, and scratches. The LOP measures 13" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has a dark patina and several dings and scratches. The stocks rate in about Very Good-Fine overall condition as ANTIQUE and repaired.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly dim, the rifling is well defined. There is scattered erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, for the age, this bore rates a 7 out of 10.Most ANTIQUE firearms have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the use of black powder. When fired, black powder reacts corrosively. NRA ANTIQUE Firearm Conditions Standards are quite lenient for bores. In some cases, the NRA standards disregarded the bore's condition for collectors' firearms.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 10% of its metal finish. Some bluing remains on the octagon flats though most remaining finish has gone to a light mottled patina and some areas are worn bright. There is scattered erosion and light pitting. There are several scattered nicks, scratches, and dings in the surfaces and the most notable can be viewed on the right side of the receiver. Two of the screws on the right side of the receiver do not appear to be original and there is an additional drilled and tapped hole; the other screws are disfigured but appear serviceable. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good-Plus condition as ANTIQUE.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not test fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Nice Marlin Model 92 .32 Centerfire 24" Octagon Lever Action Rifle 1916-1921

Lot # 1331 (Sale Order: 329 of 384)

Nice Marlin Model 92 .32 Centerfire 24" Octagon Lever Action Rifle 1916-1921

Our Assessment: This a Marlin Model 1892 lever action rifle made circa 1916-1921. The rifle requires no tools to take it apart; simply turn a thumb screw on the right side of the receiver and the side plate comes off, exposing the entire action. The Model 1892 followed the Model 1891, which had a side loading-gate similar to that used on Winchester lever actions. It proved difficult to load the tiny cartridges through the loading gate however, so in 1892 the rifle was fitted with a magazine tube that could be easily loaded by just pulling the cover forward. The Model 1892 is one of the predecessors to the Model 39, one of Marlin's most popular rifles that is still being made today. This rifle is in about Good-Very Good condition and remains mechanically sound with a great bore. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Marlin

Model: 1892

Serial Number: A6907

Year of Manufacture: CA. 1916-1921

Caliber: .32 Caliber. This model can accept firing pins in both .32 rf and cf calibers allowing the Model 1892 to chamber at least FIVE different cartridges. This included the .32 rf short, .32 rf long, .32 Colt Short, .32 Colt Long, and the .32 Long Rifle. Currently installed is a centerfire firing pin.

Action Type: Lever Action with Tubular Magazine Thumb Screw Removable Sideplate

Markings: The top tang is marked "Marlin / MODEL ‘92". The underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The top of the barrel is marked "Marlin Firearms Co. NEW-HAVEN CT., U.S.A. / PAT'D NOV. 19. 1878. APRIL 2. 1889. AUG. 12. 1890. MAR. 1. 1892.". The upper tang inlet of the wrist is marked with a matching serial number.

Barrel Length: 24" Octagon with Full Length Magazine Tube

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a German silver beaded blade slotted in a base and dovetailed at the front of the barrel. The rear sight has been removed. The rifle is equipped with a two-piece sight base and two rings supporting a vintage sporting scope with a fine crosshair and a fixed magnification. The scope shows minor external marks and the glass is clear. The scope rates in about Fine-Plus condition. The upper tang has two drilled, tapped, and filled holes for mounting a tang sight (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, and a crescent steel buttplate. The wood shows scattered nicks, scratches, scuffs, and compressions with some notable gashes on the left side of the forearm. There is finish loss throughout the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/8" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows scattered light erosion with scattered nicks and scratches. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some scattered light erosion throughout. In this writer's opinion, this bore rates a 7 out of 10.Many military and C&R-eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains approximately 60% of its original metal finish. There are scattered nicks, dings, and scratches throughout the metal, some of the more notable scratches are on the receiver flanks. There is scattered light oxidation throughout the surfaces. There is finish loss on the mag tube from abrasive cleaning. The screw heads range from sharp to slightly disfigured with serviceable slots. The markings are legible. Overall, this rifle is in about Good-Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. A centerfire firing pin is currently installed and it is intact. This rifle has a sleeve over its tubular magazine released with a button at the front allowing the sleeve to be pulled forward until it exposes the loading port. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The previously mentioned installed scope is included.

Marlin Model 1894 .44 Rem Mag Lever Action Rifle & Box MFD 2011

Lot # 1333 (Sale Order: 331 of 384)

Marlin Model 1894 .44 Rem Mag Lever Action Rifle & Box MFD 2011

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1894 is a lever-action repeating rifle introduced in 1894 by the Marlin Firearms Company of North Haven, Connecticut. At its introduction the rifle came with a 24-inch barrel and was chambered for a variety of rounds such as .25-20 Winchester, .32-20 Winchester, .38-40, and .44-40. Variants in other chamberings remain in production today. The Marlin 1894 is one of the stronger lever-action designs ever produced; it has been in production, with very few changes, for over a century now. The action is robust, dependable, and remarkably easy to disassemble and clean. As a field rifle, it is handy to pair this light and easy-to-use carbine with a similarly chambered revolver. Cowboy Action Shooters have embraced this design, as well. This a beautiful Marlin 1894 made in 2011 chambered in .44 Magnum, a very popular caliber amongst Cowboy Action Shooters. Terrific ANTIQUE Marlin Model 1894 .25-20 WCF Lever Action Rifle 1896

Our Assessment: Marlin lever actions are often forgotten, especially next to the Winchesters, but they shouldn't be. Marlin was there, building great quality and reliable rifles alongside Winchester and in the glory days of American Manufacturing. Both on the frontier, and even today, many prefer the Marlin to a Winchester. This example is a terrific piece for a collection but would also still make a solid shooter, should you so choose. Rare Marlin Model 1894S .41 Remington Magnum Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 1335 (Sale Order: 333 of 384)

Very Nice Rare Marlin Model 1894S .41 Remington Magnum Lever Action Rifle

Our Assessment: For more than a century, Marlin's 1894 has served as a popular pistol-caliber lever-action rifle. The design is still in production today and finds favor with both hunters and Cowboy Action Shooting competitors. This example is a Model 1894S made in 1988 and chambered for .41 Remington Magnum. The rifle is in about Fine-plus condition with most of its metal finish remaining and only minor marks in the stocks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. The .41 Rem. Mag. was conceived by Elmer Keith and was originally intended for hunting and law enforcement use. He envisioned two different loads: a hot load for hunting and a milder police load. When used with heavy hunting loads, the .41 Magnum offers a flatter trajectory than the .44 Magnum, and can nearly equal its muzzle energy, especially in the new loadings available from Cor-Bon and Buffalo Bore. The .41 Magnum never caught on to the same extent as the smaller .357 or larger .44 Magnum, making these rifles more scarce than the Models chambered for .357 or .44. With its smooth lever action, this great for informal target shooting or hunting at closer ranges where quick accurate follow up shots may be a necessity. Lever action rifles are some of the most fun and will never lose their charm, this one is in nice condition making it a great "used" option. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Marlin

Barrel Length: 20", Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, ramped, hooded base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-up "U" notched semi-buckhorn elevator sight dovetailed into the barrel. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with a straight grip, straight comb, brown rubber Marlin buttpad, and Marlin "bullseye" in the belly. There are some scattered light nicks and scuffs. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Marlin Model 1895 Limited V .45-70 Gov't Lever Action Rifle & Box, 1999

Lot # 1336 (Sale Order: 334 of 384)

excellent Marlin Model 1895 Limited V .45-70 Gov't Lever Action Rifle & Box, 1999

Our Assessment: This a Marlin Model 1895 LTD V lever action rifle made in 1999 and chambered in .45-70 Government. The rifle is in about excellent condition with about 99% of its metal finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. The .45-70 cartridge has enjoyed a revival in recent years due to the introduction of projectiles such as Hornady's LeveRevolution which allow it to take advantage of the improved ballistics of a spitzer bullet even in a tubular magazine. This rifle is part of a limited production run of 1,001 made for Davidson's from the year 1999, from a series of rifles which started with the LTD I and ended with the LTD V, with various barrel lengths, weights and stock styles on each model. The LTD V has a pistol grip with an 24" half octagonal barrel. The .45-70 with modern loadings can push a 325gr projectile past 2,000 fps, allowing it to be used for just about any game animal in North America and making it a particularly good round for predators, especially in a shorter, lighter rifle such as this which can be brought to bear quickly and allows for a rapid follow-up shot. As great as this rifle would be for hunting, due to its limited production and high condition, it also will be attractive to Marlin and lever-action rifle collectors. Whatever your use for it, this a great rifle in a great cartridge, the designs for each having remained popular for more than a century. Please see our photos and good luck!

Very Nice Marlin Model 410 26" Lever Action Shotgun 1936-1937

Lot # 1342 (Sale Order: 340 of 384)

Very Nice Marlin Model 410 26" Lever Action Shotgun 1936-1937

Our Assessment: The concept of a lever-action shotgun is not particularly new, it was used on one of the first repeating shotguns, the John Browning designed Winchester 1887. Like many of Marlin's lever guns, they allowed the design to mature a little before bringing out a gun that was arguably better than Winchester's offerings. The Model 410 was introduced in 1929 using essentially the same design as their Model 93 rifle. This incorporated nice features such as a quite simple design, easy disassembly for maintenance, and side-ejection. The 410 was able to hold six shells, making for a nice gun to carry around looking for small game. It would also turn a couple heads at the skeet range, if you really want to challenge yourself. Please see our photos and good luck!

Make: Marlin

Model: 410

Serial Number: U1524

Year of Manufacture: 1929-1932

Gauge: .410 Bore, 2" & 2 1/2" Shells

Choke: Modified, Fixed

Sights / Optics: There is a metal bead at the muzzle. The top of the receiver is finely serrated for glare reduction.

Weight: 6 lb., 6.3 oz.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with finger-grooved semi-beavertail forend, straight comb, pistol grip with Marlin's "S"-shape on the bottom, Marlin "bullseye" in the belly, and black hard rubber serrated buttplate. The wood appears to have been refinished at some point. The stocks have scattered draglines, compressions, and scuffs, with considerable finish loss throughout the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows scattered light wear with sharp serrations. The stocks rate in about Very Good-Plus overall condition as likely refinished.

1968 Winchester Model 94 .32 Win Special 20" Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 1343 (Sale Order: 341 of 384)

1968 Winchester Model 94 .32 Win Special 20" Lever Action Rifle

Our Assessment: This a Winchester Model 1894 Carbine made in 1968 with a 20" round barrel chambered in .32 Winchester Special. The .32 Win Spl was a popular American cartridge that was introduced in 1901, that was harder hitting than a .30-40 Krag cartridge but with less recoil. The .32 Win Spl has been discontinued for many years, however handloading is still prevalent. The 20" barrel of the Carbine model makes it light and fast-handling, and when coupled with the .32 Win Spl cartridge makes it a great rifle for hunting in thicker brush. This would be a great rifle for someone who is looking to hunt or enjoys classic lever action rifles and likes the challenges of handloading!

Pair Winchester Cheyenne Commemorative Rifles Model 94 & 9422 & Boxes

Lot # 1347 (Sale Order: 345 of 384)

Rare Pair Winchester Lever Action Cheyenne Commemorative Rifles Model 94 & 9422 & Boxes

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 is a lever-action rifle that was produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1894 to 2006. It was one of the most popular rifles of its time and is still highly sought after by collectors and hunters today. The Model 94 was designed by John Browning and was one of the first rifles to use smokeless powder, which made it more powerful and accurate than previous rifles. It was also one of the first rifles to be chambered in the .30-30 Winchester cartridge, which is still a popular hunting cartridge today.Winchester's Model 9422 was introduced in 1972. It was designed to capture the image of the traditional lever-actions with exposed hammer, straight grip, tube magazine and barrel bands. Unlike older Winchester lever actions it came grooved for scope mounting. It was offered in .22 Long Rifle and .22 WMR, and was priced at the high end of the .22LR sporting rifle market. The 9422 action design was original and extremely reliable. The feed system handled the cartridge from the magazine to the breech face by its rim, and the slide cammed the rear of the breechblock up into the locking recess. A concealed polymer buffer above the breech gave a firm-feeling lockup and a very positive unlocking motion. This a Rare matched pair of Winchester Lever Action Cheyenne Commemorative Rifles. These two rifles were both MANUFACTURED in 1977, with only 11,000 of the Model 94 being made and only 5000 of the model 9422 being produced. These commemorative lever action rifles were created to honor the Cheyenne Indian tribe and their contributions to American history. The Cheyenne are a Native American people who are part of the Algonquian language family. Historically, they were primarily located in the Great Plains of the United States, particularly in what is now Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. each rifle has a gorgeous blue and gold finish with nicely engraved receivers and a Cheyenne commemorative coin embedded in each stock. These special edition rifles are in excellent, Near New condition, looking like they spent the majority of their lives inside their boxes. These are well preserved Special edition Carbines that will nicely round out a Winchester commemorative collection. Please see our photos, good luck and happy bidding!

Winchester Model 94 Trails end .45 Colt Angle eject Lever Action Rifle & Box

Lot # 1348 (Sale Order: 346 of 384)

Winchester Model 94 Trails end .45 Colt 20" Angle eject Lever Action Rifle & Box

Our Assessment: This a very fine example of why Winchester Model 94's have become one of the most owned firearms in U.S. history. The full length magazine tube is a superb contrast to the 20" barrel, which is affixed with tried and true iron sights. The addition of a white triangle is an excellent addition to this already fast-aiming rifle. This rifle features a rebounding hammer, and cross bolt safety, as well as the original lever safety. This rifle appears to have seen limited and responsible use. The wood stocks and blue finish make for a display of true American craftsmanship which can be handed down generation after generation. The availability, versatility and power, of this rifle's .45 Colt chambering are a definite plus, and might just be your next Cowboy Action piece. Please see our photos and good luck!
