Rogers & Spencer Army .44 Percussion Revolver

Lot # 201 (Sale Order: 201 of 217)      

Description Rogers & Spencer Army chambered in .44 caliber with a six shot cylinder and a 7.5" octagonal barrel. In the white steel barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger, and hammer. Smooth wood matching grip plates. Rear V notch and fixed front brass post sight. The top of the frame is marked "ROGERS & SPENCER" "UTICA NY". "B" inspector stamps on most of the metal parts. Low three digit serial number of 965, the serial number is matching on the barrel, ram rod, frame, cylinder, butt strap, and on the inside of both of the wood grips. Antique ships directly to MOST buyers home. Condition: Poor, mainly due to the barrel appearing to have been overtightened and is now loose to the frame, needs gunsmith attention. The finish over all is now in the white and has visible buffing marks, the lettering and stamps are sill visible and mostly crips, but some are a dull from buffing. Spots of metal oxidation throughout. Some scratches, dings, and edge wear on the grips. Bright bore with strong rifling and some light frosting of metal oxidation. SOLD AS-IS due to barrel. Description Desirable Civil War Era 1864 Burnside Carbine "Fifth Model" chambered in .54 Burnside with a single shot breech loading action and a 21" round barrel. Manufactured between 1863-1865 with serial number 16078. Patinated blued barrel, barrel band, frame, and hammer, trigger, and side plate. Fire blue tang, lever, and breech block. Saddle ring and bar. Smooth 9.5" wood forend and straight grip stock with blued metal butt plate. Rear sling swivel. Fixed iron sights. Matching serial number on the top of the frame and breech block. The top of the frame is marked "BURNSIDE PATENT MODEL OF 1964". The right side of the tang/side plate is marked "BURNSIDE RIFLE CO". Stock cartouche on the left side of the grip. Antique ships directly to MOST buyers home. Condition: Antique Good/Very good with normal finish patina/loss and metal oxidation throughout from age. The fire blued parts still have most the their finish. General scratches and cosmetics wear from handling/operation. Most of the lettering is crisp and visible, the stamp on the right side plate is partially faded. The wood shows various scratches, scuffs, and dings but does not appear to have any serious cracks or integrity issues. The bore is beautiful considering the age of this rifle, it is bright and shows strong rifling. It is mostly clean with some spots of metal oxidation. The top of the frame is marked "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS PAT'D MARCH 6 1860". Antique ships directly to MOST buyers home. Civil War 1865 Burnside and 1860 Cavalry Saber Lot

Burnside Rifle company of Providence Rhode Island Spencer, model 1865 carbine chambered in .52. This example with the low serial number 1242 is one of approximately 34,00...more0 produced and quite possibly saw use at the end of the Civil War. This saddle ring and tube fed carbine features a 20", three groove barrel with fixed front and ladder rear sight. The stock still bears two faint cartouche stamps on the left side. This carbine is paired with a Mansfield & Lamb 1860 pattern calvary saber. This example is stamped "US / J.M / 2 / 1864" with circled makers mark "MANSFIELD & LAMD FORESTDALE R.I.", and the pommel is stamped "JM". Antique and ships direct to buyer. Condition: The carbine is Good missing the front barrel band, rear sight slider, and with wood loss around the top and bottom of the lock plate. The barrel has turned a dark patina as has the receiver with less on the high spots. There is evidence of cleaning. The bore is clean with distinct rifling and scattered spots of corrosion. The Calvary Saber is in Very Good condition including the leather and wire wrapped grip. There are scattered spots of light surface corrosion on the blade which does not show any signs of sharpening. The scabbard shows an array of mottled patina mixed with light surface corrosion.

Smooth wood stock with metal butt plate. Multi aperture rear sight and fixed front blade. The right side of the frame is stamped "MANUFACTURED BY MASS. ARMS CO CHICOPEE FALLS.". The left side of the frame is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD PATENTEE MAY 27 1851. DEC 6 1859.". Two cartouches on the left side of the stock. Antique ships directly to MOST buyers homes. Condition: Antique Good/Very Good with general scratches and finish wear from handling. Speckling and spots of metal oxidation throughout most metal parts. The lock plate is marked with "Crown / GM" Proof. Antique and ships direct to buyer. Condition: Fair condition with the lock loose. The hammer does not engage the sear however the main spring is strong. There is a screw missing on the butt plate and trigger guard rear tang. There is a small repair to the butt stock. Near all of the wood on the gun has been carved with scrollwork added over time and then adorned with a variety of tin alloy gilt and an engraved ornate pommel. Antique and ships direct to the buyer. Condition: Fair displaying many alterations over it's life. Wood under the pommel is broken. The lock, although vintage, is clearly not original.
