Description

Lewis and Grant's May 24th Arms and Armor Auction presented an exceptional assortment of historic firearms and rare weaponry. Featured items included an Important Texas Presentation Fullstock Percussion Rifle, a Rare 1st Pattern Confederate National Flag, and a Rare Carl Heinemann 1929 Test Rifle for US Military Trials. Enthusiasts also vied for an Excellent Antique Deluxe Casehardened 1886 Winchester and a Civil War Sharps New Model 1863 linked to Buffalo Bill. Notable pieces such as a Museum Quality Reproduction of an 1876 Gatling Gun, a Factory Case Colored Model 1892 Winchester, and an Extremely Rare Vintage Westley Richards Shotgun were highlights. Additionally, a Magnificent Factory Presentation Savage Model 99 and a Martini Action Relief Chiseled Schuetzen Rifle from Germany drew considerable interest. This auction epitomized the enduring fascination and historical significance of arms and armor collectibles.

**Springfield 1930 International McDougal Match Single Shot Rifle

Lot # 101 (Sale Order: 101 of 403)      

30-06 caliber, 30" heavy barrel, S/N 1244357, Blue finish, Lyman rear receiver sight, BAR front sight.  The stock rear ram horn butt with adjustable ram horn buttplate.  The stock has finger rest on the right side of the stock by the bolt handle.   The barrel has been drilled and tap for scope mounts.  The bolt has the same number as the serial number on the receiver.  The stock was not cut for the magazine and blocked off making it a single shot.   The barrel and receiver retain most of the blue finish. The stock is missing the sling swivel attachment mounted on the bottom of the stock.  This is a classic Col McDougal designed 1930 International target rifle that was more than likely not accepted.

**World War II Mauser Model 98 Rifle

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 102 of 403)      

8MM caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 8725, receiver has nazi markings. Also Marked BNZ over 43.  The bolt and safety is mismatched all other parts are matched.  . Laminated stock  has no number. Comes with a refinished bayonet.  The metal is sharp and crisp with blue to gray look.  The bore is very good bright and shiny.

**Colt Model 1911 Black U.S. Army Pistol

.45 ACP caliber, 5" barrel, S/N 482965, Blue finish with rare Colt full checkered grips.  This is a outstanding example retaining nearly all of the original black finish.  Some very minute scuffing and a little wear to the high edges. Just a little brown staining on the right side near the grip safety and on the rear portion of the slide.  All markings and military stamps are crisp and sharp.  The grips are in very good condition.  The bore is very good.  Overall an outstanding example of this World War 1 pistol that was issued in 1918.

.45 auto rim caliber, 5.5" barrel, S/N 108152, Blue finish with walnut grips, Marked under the barrel United States Property, Marked on the butt U.S. Army Model 1917. Bottom of the butt has the lanyard ring.   Marked in the top left side of the frame with a Flaming Bomb, on the back of the triggerguard on the left an Eagle over a "4".  Retaining a lot of the original blue finish,Some wear to the high edges and a little around the front of the muzzle.  The crain shows some blue lost.  The hammer and trigger has most of the case color finish.  Grips are very good.  A very nice 1917.

Colt Single Action Army Revolver (Antique)

Lot # 110 (Sale Order: 111 of 403)      

44-40 caliber, 5.5" barrel, S/N 161267, Single line barrel address, left side of barrel marked with roll dye markings Colt Frontier Six Shooter.  Nickel finish with blue screws, hard rubber Eagle grips.  This revolver retains nearly all of the bright nickel finish with just the slightest drag through the cylinder stops.  The screws retain most of the blue finish.  The grips are excellent.  This revolver was shipped on July 11, 1895 to E.J Post and Co.  Letters with nickel finish, 5.5" barrel, 44-40 caliber.  Stocks not listed.  A fantastic high condition Colt SA. that is factory original.

Colt Single Action Army Revolver US Marked

Lot # 115 (Sale Order: 112 of 403)      

.45 Colt Caliber, 7.5" barrel, S/N 134309, Blue and case hardened finish.  Blued triggerguard and backstrap.  One piece walnut grips. Marked on the Bottom of barrel near the cylinder pin "P" RAC, serial number 4309.  The frame marked US with three line patent markings, and RAC above the serial number on the frame. Bottom of backstrap marked with serial number and "K". a "K" under the serial number on the triggerguard.  Cavalry hammer with elongated deep cross hatched spur. One piece Walnut grips with RAC on the bottom of the grips, on the left side of the grips cartouche in an oval with SEB Captain Stanhope English Blunt, and on the right side is RAC in an Oval.  This revolver is correct with all original U>S Martial parts.  The barrel and ejector retain a lot of the original arsenal blue finish with most of the case coloring lightly fading.  The backstrap and triggerguard has most of the original arsenal blue finish.  Grips are excellent with cartouches just a little faded.

**German Luger Pistol Dated 1916

9MM caliber, 4" barrel, S/N 5619, Marked on the top of the toggle DWM, dated on top of the breech 1916. Blue finish with checkered walnut grips.  The is pistol retains a lot of the original blue finish,  slightly  dulling, a little wear on the side plate.  Still retains a lot of the original straw colors, just lightly fading.  Grips are very good.  The bore is very good and bright and shiny.  The mag does not match.  Overall excellent.

**WW2 Japanese Nambu Type 14 Pistol with Holster

8X22mm Nambu, 4.61" Barrel, S/N: 54602.Dated 1944, August. Appears to have all matching numbers, original rubberized canvas clamshell holster, cleaning rod.

**Very good condition. It retains the majority of the blue finish except for some silvering around the edges from wear and wood grips show little wear. Holster has tight stitching, straps (stitching on straps are loose), and leather plug in the bottom is still present. **

Star Single Action Percussion Army Revolver

.44 caliber, 8" round barrel, S/N 26447, Blue finish with walnut grips  This revolver retains nearly all of the original blue finish with a little flaking on the barrel on both sides.The cylinder and the frame retains all of the blue finish with just a hint of wear to the high edges.  The grips are untouched with nice open-grained feathered look.  Two mint cartouches on the left is LTB who inspected Starr revolvers on the right side is LTB.  Overall this revolver is outstanding.

.9MM caliber, 8" barrel, S/N 353, Marked DWM on the top of the toggle.  Dated 1917 on the top of the breech.  Rear adjustable barrel sight.  Blue finish with Checkered walnut grips.  Original Leather Holster with Wood shoulder stock that matches the pistol.  Retaining some of the original blue finish with wear to the high edges and holster wear on the sides.  The bore is bright and shiny.  Leather shows use.  Has the original cleaning rod and take down tool.  Overall a very good example of a WW1 Luger.

**Rare 1920 Luger Carbine

Lot # 114 (Sale Order: 118 of 403)      

 9MM caliber, 12" barrel, matching S/N 20, Commercial markings with Germany stamped on the left side of the frame near the chamber.  Marked DWM on top of the toggle.  Blue finish, with checkered grips and fore end.  Retaining most of the original blue finish, with just lightest wear on the high edges.  The bore is outstanding.  Overall very good for this rare Luger. The Model 1920 Luger Carbines were made using frames from un-issued and surplus 1906 Naval Lugers  which accounts for the grip safety.  Reworked with new barrels and normally low numbered and sold commercially by DWM to both to markets in America and South America markets so as not to be in violation of the Treaty of Versailles.

**Museum Quality Reproduction Of 1876 Gatling Gun And Carrige

Lot # 119 (Sale Order: 124 of 403)      

.45-70 caliber, 38" Barrel length with10 barrels, Oak carriage and wheels.  Brass yoke and housing.  Overall length is 8' 10" X 48" height. The markings on the frame indicate that this gun was made by Chester (Chet) Fudge.  Chet became involved in the manufacturing of Gatling Guns in early 2000.  His company, Modular Engineering Inc.  made lunar excursion modules for nuclear reactors.  He also designed  & Built prototypes of many things.  His most recent project was to hand -tool and construct this full  size copy of a 1876 Gatling Gun.  It is marked 771 on many parts.  More than likely the 771 is and assembly number indicating the parts made for this particular Gatling Gun.  His business initials are also located on the frame.  This Gatling is of the highest quality machine work and functions flawlessly.
