Lewis and Grant's May 24th Arms and Armor Auction presented an exceptional assortment of historic firearms and rare weaponry. Featured items included an Important Texas Presentation Fullstock Percussion Rifle, a Rare 1st Pattern Confederate National Flag, and a Rare Carl Heinemann 1929 Test Rifle for US Military Trials. Enthusiasts also vied for an Excellent Antique Deluxe Casehardened 1886 Winchester and a Civil War Sharps New Model 1863 linked to Buffalo Bill. Notable pieces such as a Museum Quality Reproduction of an 1876 Gatling Gun, a Factory Case Colored Model 1892 Winchester, and an Extremely Rare Vintage Westley Richards Shotgun were highlights. 44 rf caliber, 25.25" Octagonal barrel, S/N 154707, Full magazine, brass buttplate. Blue barrel and magazine.  Brass frame, walnut stock and forearm.  The barrel still retains a lot of the original blue finish just lightly fading.  The magazine still retains a lot of the blue finish and evenly matches the barrel.  The brass with nice untouched patina.  Butt stock and forearm has a nice untouched look with original varnish.  The stock and forearm has some nicks and dings.  Overall and excellent looking 66 rifle.  The bore is very good with a bright and shiny look.

Native American Used 73 Winchester Carbine

44 caliber, 20" barrel, S/N 252207B, Circa 1888, Walnut stock and forearm.  Forearm has the front band missing with rawhide wrap to hold the forearm to the barrel.  Two line of four brass tacks running parallel with the barrel.  The butt stock has Tack design on the top of the comb of the stock and then outlining the buttplate.  On the right side  a line of three tacks on the wrist and then in the center a large arrow design of brass tacks.  The left side has brass tacks in the design of a church with a cross on the top of the steeple. with a "V" in the church design.  The bore is well used, and the metal shows dark brown patina.  This carbine is well used.

Model 1874 Long Range Sharps Number 1 Match Rifle

.45  2 4/10 caliber, 32" octagonal to round barrel, S/N 158020,  Blue barrel, case colored frame.  Top of barrel marked Old Reliable in a box, Then single line barrel address Sharps Rifle Co Bridgeport Conn.  Spirit Level front sight, rear tang sight with matching number to the serial number.  Rear tang sight base on the top of the rear stock.  Special feature Single checkered trigger.  Finely figured walnut stock with checkered pistol grip.  A Silver plaque inlaid  on the left side of the stock with the Name William E. Fitch engraved.  Checkered steel buttplate.  Finely checkered forearm. 

Factory letter states This gun was invoiced October 1, 1877 to C. S. Richardson of Troy New York.  It is noted as Model 1874 Lang Range #1 Match Rifle.  The weight was 10 pounds. There was a special order aperture disk, canvas case and a powder charger.  The list price was $130.  The barrel retains a lot of the original blue finish just lightly fading.  70 long range rifles built at Bridgeport.   The case colors on the frame are intact just lightly fading.  The bore is bright and shiny, excellent.  The stock and forearm retain nearly all of the original finish with few nicks and dings.  Overall this is an outstanding Sharps rifle.

**Factory Case Colored Model 1892 Winchester Semi-Deluxe Rifle (C&R)

 25-20 caliber, 26" Octagonal barrel, S/N 106346,  Blued octagonal barrel, case-colored frame, lever and hammer and nosecap.  Lyman front and rear tang sight, no rear sight seat.  Plain checkered walnut pistol grip stock with hard rubber Winchester logo buttplate.  Forearm checkered ensuite with the stock.  The barrel retains most of its factory original blue finish with only very minor edge wear.  The frame retains much original casehardening with both sides of the frame displaying considerable vivid colors with negligible fading on the bottom and top of the frame.  The lever still retains most of its case colors.  The cartridge slide still retains all its bright blue finish. The stock and forearm are dark and displaying a nice untouched feathered grain. The bore is bright and shiny. Casehardened frame Winchesters are rarely found with this much original finish. Altogether an outstanding and very rare rifle with all features confirmed in a Winchester factory letter.

**Factory Engraved Grade 5 Marlin Model 1893 Takedown Rifle

30-30 caliber, 26" tapered Octagonal to round barrel, S/N 194575, Blue barrel and magazine tube.  1/2 half magazine, Takedown. Rear tang sight, the barrel has seat where the rear sight is, front sight with white bead.  Case colored nosecap, frame lever, hammer.  Finely figured walnut checkered pistol grip stock and forearm.  Buttstock has a hard rubber company logo buttplate. The frame is finely engraved with a elk and female in an oval panel on the left side, the rest is finished in fine scrolls with the outer edge in a border. The right side of the frame is fully covered in scrolls and borders. The take down lug is Engraved, the barrel is engraved with fine scrolls.  The barrel and magazine retain nearly all of the original bright blue finish. The case colored parts retain nearly all of the bright and vivid case colors.   The frame is spectacular retaining nearly all of the bright and vivid colors with the lacquer coating. The bore is bright and shiny  This is a extremely fine factory engraved Marlin rifle.

Plain trigger, Sling swivels.  Finely figured walnut Checkered stock with pistol grip, checkered forearm.   Casehardened and blue finish.  The barrel retains a lot of the bright original blue finish , a little wear to the high edges, a slight mar to the blue finish on the top of barrel  just behind the rear sight in front of the frame.  The nose cap, frame, hammer, lever and buttplate still retain a lot of the bright case colors. The stock and forearm retain a lot of the original varnish finish.  The bore is bright and shiny.  Fully factory letters.  This is excellent short rifle.

45-90 caliber, 26" round barrel, S/N 27770, Blue finish, Marked on the top tang Model 1886.  Winchester rear adjustable rear  barrel sight with blade front sight.  Sling swivels, two XX select walnut stock and forearm.  Checkered forearm with checkered pistol grip,  Shotgun butt with steel buttplate.  The metal has sharp and crisp lines, the finish has turned to a soft patina brown.  The stock and forearm are refinished.  The stock has some repairs in the checkered pistol grip.  A small sliver of wood missing along the top of the tang.  the stock and forearm has some nicks and dings. The bore is nice and bright and shiny.

Excellent And Rare Antique Deluxe Casehardened 1886 Winchester With Factory Engraved Silver Plaque

.45-70 caliber, 24" half octagonal to round barrel, S/N 97908, (Antique).  A truly superb 1886 with all extra features verified by Winchester factory letter. ?Lyman Combination Front sight?, ?Lyman Rear sight?. ?Lyman Sporting Rear?. ?1/2 octagon barrel?. ?Plain trigger?. ?Checkered stock with a pistol grip.? ?1/2 magazine?. The factory notation ?Silver name plate with inscription? sets this 1886 apart from other excellent condition, case color frame deluxe 1886?s and makes it an extreme rarity. The silver plaque is masterfully engraved, likely by the master himself, John Ulrich, in the most elegant 19th century script: ?Presented by Third Division N.B.M.V.M, (Naval Brigade Massachusetts Volunteer Militia) Lieutenant William A. Cary in token of regard for his long and valued services as an Officer and Commander of the Division?. This volunteer division enjoyed the support of Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Theodore Roosevelt and some of its man served in the Spanish American War. Military presentation Winchesters are unicorns. The configuration of this Winchester is particularly desirable as is the caliber. The wood is at least 2X and the Winchester hard rubber buttplate is intact.

Condition: The barrel retains nearly all its original factory blue finish. The frame exhibits nearly all the lovely, vibrant, rainbow color casehardening with only very minor fading at the extreme front of frame. Still retains the original lacquered coat.  The hammer and lever have most of their color casehardening. The deluxe highly figured wood have nearly all their high gloss factory varnish and the checkering is excellent. The bore is as beautiful as the rest of this rifle.

Also a Lyman receiver sight on the left with the slide missing.  The floor plate marked SUPER GRADE,  Fancy deluxe checkered stock with cheek piece, Winchester cap on the pistol grip and horn tip stock.  The bore is bright and shiny.  The barrel retains most of the blue finish, the receiver retains most of the blue fins with matted top.  The stock retains most of the factory finish with some nicks and dings from use.  Overall excellent early SUPER GRADE.

Markings are in a single line ion the top of the rib "Westley Richards 178 New Bond St Maker to his Majesty George V Rex ET Imp  Ovundo".  The frame with beautifully engraved classic best quality English bank note and floral designs.  Westley Richards in a banner on the right side of the frame.   Fancy figured walnut stock with straight grip and fine checkering. The butt of the stock is finely checkered.  A vacant gold nameplate is inlaid on the bottom of the stock..  Fancy figured walnut forearm checkered with horn tip. The barrel retains 99% of its original blue finish.  The frame retains 99% original vivid case colors. 2.625" drop at the heel, 14.5" lop. 12 gauge ?Ovundo?s? are rare. A minty 20 is a unicorn.   Weight 6 Lbs.

**J.Purdey & Sons Best Quality Double Barrel Shotgun (Antique)

12 gauge, 30" barrels, S/N 13013, the barrels are nitro proofed. Engraved frame with side clips and engraved side locks.  Double triggers with splinter forearm.  Blue barrels marked "J.Purdey & Sons Audley House South Audley Street".  Case colored frame and side locks.  Finely engraved frame and side locks are in the banknote style.  LOP is 14.25" with English style rubber recoil pad.  2.625" drop at the heel.  Finely figured and checkered forearm and straight grip stock.  The barrels retain most of the blue finish with no wear.  The frame and side locks retain all of the case colored finish.  Overall this is an outstanding shotgun that was rebuilt by Purdey and nitro proofed.  Serial number this shotgun indicates that it was produced in 1888.

**A Magnificent Deep Relief Engraved Gold Inlaid Factory Presentation Savage Model 99

Lot # 218 (Sale Order: 218 of 403)      

.300 savage caliber, 22" tapered round barrel, S/N11380000.  Presented by the Savage Factory to Joseph V. Falcon in December of 1967. The Savage Factory spared no pains to create the finest Savage rifle of the latter half of the 20th Century. The lustrous blued barrel is austere and not engraved contrasting sharply with the incredibly elaborate bright steel frame. The frame is a work of art rivaling the work of masters such as the Brown brothers, Linton McKenzie, or Creative Art in Italy. Entirely covered with deep relief engraving of leafy foliate scrolls the frame is a masterpiece. The underside featured an oval reserve with a superbly executed gold inlay of the Savage Native American in full headdress. The fletching on each feather is finely delineated. Framed within the scrolls under the gold Savage logo is the presentation itself in relief in four lines. ?JOSEPH V. FALCON FROM HIS FRIENDS AT SAVAGE ARMS DECEMBER 1967?. The serial number 1138000 is on a relief panel. The right side of the frame features a large gold inlaid panther or mountain lion stalking through a wooded landscape within the scrolling foliage. The left side is adorned with a large elk in a wooded landscape with evergreen trees framed by scrolling foliage. The lever of bright steel is engraved ensuite with the frame and the trigger and safety are bright gold. The buttplate bears the Savage logo. The highly figured finest quality pistol gip walnut stock and fore-end are carved and checkered reminiscent of a Grade 1 Winchester lever action. All screws are engraved, This fantastic one of a kind rifle remains in mint condition retaining nearly all original Savage factory finishes on both metal and wood. This splendid work of art lever action rifle will be the centerpiece of any Savage collection and would add luster to any collection of the finest, ultra deluxe vintage American long guns.

**Deluxe Factory Engraved Gold Inlaid Model 70 Winchester Rifle

.270 caliber, 24" tapered round barrel, S/N 203021, Blue finish, Fancy select walnut stock with fleur-de-lis checkering.  Engraved steel buttplate.  Engraved pistol grip cap inlaid with gold initials "E.V.S".  Receiver is fully engraved with a bear inlaid in gold on the right side of the receiver. The left side with a gold inlaid moose.  The barrel has full coverage engraving going up the barrel.  The Griffin Howe scope mount and rings are fully engraved. All the engraving is of the highest quality with beautiful floral designs and banknote scrolls.  Mounted with a Lyman All-American  4X scope.  The metal retains all of the original blue finish.  The highly figured stock is outstanding with minute scratches.   Overall this is a fantastic Winchester factory engraved and gold inlaid Winchester Model 70.  The bore is excellent.

**Shiloh Sharps Long Range Rifle Made In New York

.50-140 caliber, 36" octagonal barrel, S/N 1616, double set triggers, Marked on top of the barrel the name R. Hoch. Marked on the left side of the receiver Shiloh Rifle Mfg Co.  Farmingdale N.Y..  Blue barrel, case colored frame, Long range tang sight.  Walnut stock and forearm with schnabel tip.  Rifle is like new retaining all of the original blue finish.  The frame, hammer and buttplate retain all  of the case colors.  Bore is bright and shiny.  Stock is excellent, the forearm has a small minute splinter missing in the tip.   Overall excellent example of the early works of this company.  Complete with extra brass, lead, and loading dies.

Rare U.S. Model 1871 Trial Springfield Ward Burton Carbine

.50-70 caliber, 22.25" barrel, NSN. Bright finish with walnut stock secured by spring-retained barrel band. Blade front sight with 1870-type ladder rear sight. Top of bolt marked with two-line Remington address and patent date, left side of receiver marked " U.S./SPRINGFIELD 1871". Wrist under sling bar marked with correct " ESA" cartouche, additional " AL" stamp rear of triggerguard. Good condition overall. Most of the original blued finish has thinned to a gunmetal gray patination with some salt and pepper oxidation throughout. Stock has some handling marks and blemishes. Action is functional with a good bright bore showing visible edges to rifling. A desirable example of this rare experimental carbine of which just over 300 were made.

Blue finish with checkered walnut grips.  The pistol retains most of the original blue. The grips are excellent.  The bore is excellent.  A very nice target pistol.
