Colt 1st Gen. Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 97 (Sale Order: 101 of 842)      

Colt 1st Gen. Single Action Army Revolver, #278188, .32 W.C.F. (.32-20) cal., 7.5" barrel, maker's name and address in one line on top, "32 W.C.F." at left, ejector at right. Cylinder has dots above two chambers, else unmarked. Solid frame has a tiny notched sight dovetailed at rear of topstrap sighting groove, "N" below, 2-line 1871-72-75 patent dates and encircled "Rampant Colt" at left front, "VP" proof and "3" at left trigger guard webs, and loading gate batch-marked "1427". Two-piece checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in oval at top. Mfg'd 1906, with blued finish, case hardened frame and hammer. Condition is good retaining approx. 25% barrel/ejector blue, with scattered oxidation (esp. address area), 35% thin blue to cylinder (esp. flutes and rear face), 20% on straps, fine edges and markings, hammer with light case colors, frame mostly silvered with 1" filed area at right rear, similar .75" area on ejector. Grips are sound showing light wear to checkering and logo, 1" hairline crack emanating upward from screw at right side, small file mark area at frame juncture. Barrel has been "stretched" 2" behind muzzle, well done with matching rifling, front sight has been reduced. Action is smooth, bore shows light oxidation and very good rifling. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. Scarce Michael Price Belt Knife, with Sheath

Lot # 98 (Sale Order: 102 of 842)      

Scarce Michael Price Belt Knife, with Sheath, 4-1/8" upswept blade, 8-1/8" overall, full tapered tang construction, with antique marine ivory grips held in place by nickel silver pins. Obverse side of the ricasso with a partially visible maker's mark of "M. Price", remainder is obscured by pitting. Includes a period brown leather belt sheath, no visible maker's mark, front of the body with basic geometric hand tooled design. Knife is in good overall condition, showing honest age and wear. Blade shows additional sharpening and intermittent spots of mostly light pitting. There is a little heavier pitting and rust patina on the ricasso and on parts of the tang. Grips display a pleasing yellowish hue from age, no cracks or significant blemishes. There are intermittent small spots of rust staining adjacent to the tang. Sheath shows age and wear that is consistent with the overall knife condition, including general surface cracking and wear. Stitching and seams are good. There is small tear near the tip where the end of the blade punctured the leather. Est.: $3,000-$5,000.

Knife is in very good used condition, with scattered light scratching to the blade, no nicks or chips to the cutting edge. Brass shows moderate toning from age. Handle is sound but the top has an age crack that runs along the entire length. Sheath is good overall with light scuffs, scratches, and a few spots of darkening. Stitching and seams remain tight. In very good used condition, with light scratching present on the blade, no chips or nicks to the cutting edge. Brass shows moderate toning from age. Micarta with only a small amount of mild handling marks. There is a little very mild age cracking to the sheath belt loop, otherwise showing a few scuffs and storage type marks. Stitching and seams are tight. Includes a "Fine India" sharpening stone. Knife is in near excellent overall condition. Blade is unused. Hilt shows some light scratches, toning, and would improve with good cleaning. Custom Michael Price Style Dagger, with Engraved Sheath, by Jim Sornberger, 5-5/8" satin finished spear-point blade, marked on the ricasso "J. Sornberger/Volcano, CA"; 9-3/4" overall length, ivory handle with small silver dot adornments. Nickel silver sheath is border engraved on one side, body with scroll patterns and blank shield. This knife has a classic look and rates in excellent overall condition. Blade is as new. Handle with a nice, natural aged appearance, and a few natural fissures to one side. There is a small amount of minor handling and storage marks to outside of the sheath. Knife and engraving were done by California knifemaker Jim Sornberger who is most well-known for his California Gold Rush period style work. Est.: $1,800-$2,400.

One unique feature of this knife is the 3-3/4" LEO-Damascus blade which is forged by hand, in part out of the barrels from the German fighting tank Leopard. Overall length is 8-1/4". Knife also features rosewood handles, each with a Damascus engraving plate; .925 sterling silver bolster and pins. Includes wood display case and numbered COA. Knife is in excellent overall condition. Sterling bolsters are lightly tarnished and show a little mild scratching. There are some light storage type marks present on outside of the wood case. Colt Bisley Model Single Action Army Revolver, #310360, .38 W.C.F. (.38-40) cal., 5.5" barrel is marked with maker's name and address on top, "(Bisley Model) 38 W.C.F." at left. Fluted 6-shot cylinder. Solid frame has 2-line patent dates and "Rampant Colt" at left, loading gate batch-numbered "1898", Bisley-unique low-spur hammer and hump-back straps, with checkered hard rubber grips having the oval Rampant Colt at top. Mfg'd 1909. Condition is excellent, retaining approx. 85% blue, thinning on cylinder, backstrap may be an old refinish (very difficult to tell but number is slightly soft), bright niter blue trigger, nice frame case colors (silvered on hammer). Blued screw heads are sharp. Grips have sharp checkering and details and fit beautifully. Action is smooth, bore bright with fine rifling. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (C&R/PPT)

Fleischmann Falling Block Single Shot Schuetzen Rifle, NVSN, .30 cal., 31.5" heavy octagon barrel, blue finish, custom two-piece carved Schuetzen stock, banded front sight with an open dovetail, full-length filed rib on barrel, exaggerated engraved trigger guard, double set triggers, unmarked adjustable aperture sight on tang, top of the receiver is marked "D.R.G.M.", breechblock is marked "SYSTEM-MARRKOLBE/D.R.G.M." German registration marks. Right side of the barrel flat is marked "WILH. FLEISCHMANN", left side is marked "NEUNDORF B./SUHL". Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining significant original finish drifting to brown patina, with sharp edges on the barrel. Receiver is heavily relief engraved with cherubic angel figures on both sides. Trigger guard, lever, bottom metal and tang are engraved in the same detailed pattern. Stock is very good with a Schnabel forend. Buttstock shows an oversized pancake cheekpiece, hand rest and exaggerated comb. Butt ends with an adjustable steel buttplate with prongs, providing a 12.5" LOP to the front trigger. Bore is very good with well-defined rifling. Action functions well and locks up securely. An interesting Schuetzen rifle from the Neundorf or Suhl region of Germany that deserves further research. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (C&R/PPT)

Outstanding Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless SxS Sidelock Double Rifle, #19378, .375 H&H Flanged 2.5" cal., 26" barrels, rust blued barrels, "Royal" engraved back-action sidelock, ejectors, brass bead ramped blade front sight with flip-up moon sight, three leaf rear Express sights marked 100, 200 and 300 yards; hand-filed quarter rib with inlaid scope mounting bases marked with a gold "1", sling swivels, original tang mounted flip-up peep sight, double triggers, bolted manual safety, third fastener, disk set strikers and gold-lined cocking indicators, extended tang, sharp factory markings with the left barrel marked "WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS, LONDON". Right barrel displays a crisp barrel address "HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON." Lot includes two boxes of the consignor's hand-loaded ammunition with Bertram brass and Woodleigh bullets, totaling 40 rounds. Rifle was mfg'd shortly after the turn of the century and is in near excellent overall condition, retaining 96%-97% of the barrels rust blued finish, with light scratches and handling marks. Receiver has gone to gray with 97%-98% coverage in "Royal" scroll engraving, with the maker's name on each of the lockplates, and "THE ROYAL HAMMERLESS" engraved across the bottom of the action. There are gold inlaid "1's" on the lever, quarter rib and forend release. Stock is in near excellent overall condition with light indentations, scratches and minor marks. The forend bears the matching serial number on the interior, with "Royal" engraving on the metal surfaces and an Anson release. Buttstock shows fine fit and finish with the trigger guard extending to the pistol grip, which features an engraved cap with trap. There is a gold oval escutcheon plate in the buttstock which ends with a ribbed horn buttplate, providing a 14.5" LOP to the front trigger. There are couple small spots of insect damage around the perimeter of the buttplate. Bores rate as very good showing square, well-defined rifling with light cordite burn near the breech. The water table displays numerous English proof and acceptance marks, with the cordite load of "40-320 MAX" marked on the barrel flats. Action is tight on face and functions well, locking up securely. A really outstanding example by one of London's finest manufacturers. Est. $12,000-$18,000. (C&R/PPT)**

W.H. Monk Medium-Grade Side-by-Side Shotgun, NVSN. 20 ga. 28" solid concave rib steel barrels have 2-1/2" chambers and are choked Cyl./Mod., marked on rib "W.H. Monk, Chester". The boxlock action utilizes a double underlug lockup and features double triggers, automatic safety, and plain extractors. The case hardened receiver has the maker's name on both sides and features extensive scroll engraving on the receiver, trigger guard, and tangs. The splinter forend and straight grip buttstock are oil-finished "B" Grade walnut with adequate checkering, with a stock extension and black buttplate fitted. LOP is 15-3/8". Gun is contained in a well-used brown canvas hard case, with green felt lining and "O.S.P." initials lettered on top. Mfg'd approx. 1890 in England. Condition is antique very good, as well maintained and nitro proofed. Wood and receiver show expected use, and the action still closes tight and functions correctly; bores are bright. Bannerman Spencer Model 1890 Slide-Action Shotgun, NVSN. 12 ga. 30" steel barrel has 2-5/8" chamber and is choked IM. The repeating action was designed and patented by Christopher Spencer in 1882, and later produced by Bannerman's in New York. This appears to be an earlier model, with turned forend, case hardened frame, round knob semi-pistol grip buttstock, and checkered steel buttplate. Mfg'd approx. 1890's. Condition is antique very good, with approx. 70%-80% case color remaining, patina coloring to the barrel, and expected handling marks to the buttstock. Action is sticky due to old lubricant and would benefit from a thorough cleaning but still functions correctly. Not for use with modern smokeless shells. Est.: $500-$650. (Antique)**

The beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock are of "B" Grade European walnut, with full checkering, grip cap, and original Sauer buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14.25"x1.5"x2.25". Mfg'd 1954 by Sauer and imported by Stoeger. Condition is near excellent for its age, with approx. 80%-90% case color, few handling marks to wood, and as new action operation which locks up very tight and functions correctly; bores are bright. Parker SC Grade Single Barrel Trap Shotgun

Parker SC Grade Single Barrel Trap Shotgun, #188380. 12 ga. 34" Acme Steel barrel has a ventilated rib with target beads, a 2-3/4" chamber, and is choked Mod. The boxlock action is simple and efficient and has no safety but has an auto ejector when fired. The receiver retains only about 10% case color but is elaborately engraved with scroll patterns and a pigeon in flight on the bottom. The flat-bottom beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock are of oil-finished "B" Grade walnut, extensively checkered at 22 LPI, with a Whiteline black plastic grip cap and a later black "Kick-Eez" Trap recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8"x1-3/4"x1-7/8". Gun was originally mfg'd in 1920. Condition is good to very good, with almost all case hardening gone and much wear to the action which still closes tight and functions correctly. Bore is bright. Buttstock may be a replacement as it is thick and dense and offsets the 34" barrel. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (C&R/PPT)

L.C. Smith 2E Grade Side-by-Side Shotgun, #200728. 12 ga. 30" solid matte rib barrels appear to be new, have 2-3/4" chambers and are choked XF/Full. The Smith sidelock action uses a crossbolt lockup and features double triggers, non-op safety, and auto ejectors. The lock sideplates have been polished, and the balance of the receiver re-case hardened. The splinter forend and pistol grip buttstock are oil-finished "B" Grade walnut, with an ebony nose piece, black plastic grip cap and buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14-1/8"x1-3/4"x2-3/4". Originally mfg'd in 1902. Condition is excellent as almost completely refurbished. Wood is almost perfect. Barrels are deep blue steel. Receiver is striking with polished locks set in case-colored frame. Action closes tight and works well, except the safety which will not move. Bores are bright. Est.: $1,000-$1,200. (C&R/PPT)

Remington Model 1894 AE Grade Side-by-Side Hammerless Shotgun, #112134. 12 ga. 30" solid rib barrels have target beads, 2-3/4" chambers, Liege Belgium nitro-proof marks, and are choked Mod./Full. The boxlock action is unengraved, with lockup via double underlugs and rib extension toplock, featuring two triggers, non-automatic safety, and auto ejectors. The beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock appear to be replacements, with oil-finished Exhibition Grade walnut, Purdey forend snap, extensive checkering at 24 LPI, black plastic grip cap, and orange Pachmayr "Old English" recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14-3/4"x1-3/4"x1-7/8". Mfg'd 1899. Condition is excellent as refurbished, with approx. 10%-15% case color remaining on receiver which has a little frosting. Wood has almost no handling marks. Barrels are still very deep blue. Action still closes very tight and functions perfectly. Bores are mirror bright. Great gun for pheasants. Est.: $1,000-$1,200. Marlin Firearms Co. L.C. Smith Model Field Grade Side-by-Side Shotgun, #FWM58324. 12 ga. 28" vent rib barrels have target beads on milled rib, 2-3/4" chambers, and are choked Mod./IM. The Smith sidelock action uses a crossbolt lockup and features double triggers, auto safety, and plain extractors. The sidelocks are case colored. The medium forend and pistol grip buttstock are matte-finished Field Grade walnut, with a black grip cap and buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4"x1-5/8"x1-3/4". Mfg'd 1970. Condition is excellent externally, with few marks to wood and little wear to action. Case color is 95%+. Gun closes tight but the action could not be tested because it is "locked" on Safe and could not be moved (gunsmith repair is required). Bores are mirror bright. Est.: $850-$1,000. (C&R/PPT)

Winchester Model 21 Field Grade Side-by-Side Shotgun, #12297. 20 ga. 28" matte rib barrels have target beads, 2-3/4" chambers, and are marked Mod./Full but righthand barrel has been opened to IC. The Model 21 action has a single underlug lockup and features a single selective mechanical trigger, non-automatic safety, and selective ejectors. The blued receiver is unengraved. The beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock are high-gloss finished "C" Grade walnut and appear to be replacements, based upon the very full pistol grip and wooden grip cap with diamond insert; the butt pad is an orange Pachmayr Skeet pad with abrasive tape added to assure no shoulder slip; checkering is at 22 LPI. Stock dimensions appear suited for Trap shooting at 14"x1-5/8"x1-5/8". Mfg'd 1930s. Condition is very good, with two chips out of the beavertail forend and a few handling marks to the balance of the wood. Limited discoloration to the receiver and top handle, and nominal wear to the receiver and grip tang. Action closes tight and functions correctly, bores are bright. Est.: $5,500-$7,000. (C&R)

The Model 21 action has a single underlug lockup and features a single selective mechanical trigger, non-automatic safety, and selective ejectors. The blue receiver is unengraved but marked "Skeet" forward of the trigger guard. The beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock are oil-finished "C" Grade walnut with extensive checkering at 22 LPI, with no grip cap and a checkered butt. Stock dimensions are 14"X1-3/4"x2-1/2". Mfg'd 1936. Condition is very good, with numerous small handling marks to the wood, limited carry wear to the receiver bluing, and moderate checkering wear, showing light field use over the years.
