Rare Remington Model 720 Military Bolt Action Sporting Rifle

Lot # 147 (Sale Order: 151 of 842)      

Rare Remington Model 720 Military Bolt Action Sporting Rifle, #42435, .30-06 cal., 22" barrel, smooth walnut one-piece stock, stock marked with Crossed Cannons Ordnance symbol and stamped with Colonel Frank J. Atwood's "FJA" inspection mark. Rifle is as new in original box, still wrapped in factory paper. Bolt appears to have never been unwrapped and the rifle shows no evidence of ever being assembled, let alone fired. The end label shows correct markings including the caliber, serial number, and mentions the sling strap which is still in the box, in cardboard. The Remington Model 720 Military rifles were purchased by the U.S. Navy during 1942 and intended for military use. Remaining unused throughout the war, they were later used as marksmanship trophies for Navy and Marine competitive shooters. Total production numbered only 920-1000 rifles. A rare Remington in incredible condition, with original manual and associated packaging materials. Rifle was originally part of the famous Robert Petersen collection. Est.: $3,000-$5,000. (C&R/PPT)

Winchester Model 70 Target Bolt Action Rifle

Winchester Model 70 Target Bolt Action Rifle, #323207, .30-06 cal., 24" medium-weight barrel, Redfield Int'l Match Globe front sight, rear sight removed and plugged, Redfield Olympic Model aperture sight on the rear bridge, factory ribbed trigger, blue finish, smooth walnut one-piece pistol grip target stock, accessory rail, sling swivels, period leather rifle sling with brass hardware. Mfg'd 1955. Rifle is in near fine overall condition retaining approx. 88%-90% factory blue finish, with scrapes, scratches and areas of scattered erosion. There is considerable dried oil on the barrel that should clean. Barrel has been drilled and tapped for target bases with the two holes filled with tap screws. The Redfield Match Globe front sight has a single heavy post insert. Receiver shows light edgewear and general thinning of finish. Receiver is drilled and tapped with a Redfield one-piece scope base added. Bolt is etched with the matching serial number. Bottom metal and trigger guard show nearly all of the thinning blue finish with scattered scratches and edgewear. Factory markings are sharp with Winchester "WP" proofs on the barrel and front ring. Smooth walnut target stock is in very good condition with light scratches and minor indentations. Target forend is 2.5" wide with an accessories rail. Butt ends with a checkered steel shotgun style buttplate providing a 13.5" LOP. Action functions smoothly and the trigger breaks crisply; bright bore is very good with well-defined rifling. Rare Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Sporting Rifle, #418133, 7mm Mauser cal., 24" barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut one-piece high-comb pistol grip stock, sling swivels, ramped front and rear sights removed from the dovetail and left vacant, factory drilled and tapped receiver with an extra hole on the rear bridge (all holes are left vacant). Bolt is etched with the matching serial number. Mfg'd 1957. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining 94%-95% thinning blue finish, with light scratches, scrapes and handling marks. Receiver shows edgewear and thinning finish, particularly on the top. Bottom metal shows edgewear and minor marks. Stock is fine with light indentations, scratches, and small mars associated with field use. Butt ends with a checkered steel buttplate gone to gray patina with the correct widow's peak top providing a 13.75" LOP. Bore is very good with light frosting and well-defined rifling. Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Bolt Action Sporting Rifle, #107812, .257 Roberts cal., 24" barrel, blue finish, finely checkered walnut one-piece low-comb pistol grip stock with an ebony forend tip, Winchester hard rubber grip cap and cheekpiece, deluxe sling swivels, brass bead ramped blade front and rear sight removed with the dovetail filled. Receiver has been drilled and tapped with all four holes filled, sharp factory markings with "SUPER GRADE" on the magazine base plate and crisp Winchester "WP" proofs on the barrel and front ring. Bolt is etched with the matching serial number. There are two vacant tap holes at the left rear of the receiver from an old receiver sight. Mfg'd 1949. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining 94%-95% thinning factory finish, with wear at the muzzle, scrapes along the barrel, and spots of dried oil that should clean. Receiver displays thinning finish with light edgewear. Bottom metal shows even edgewear and thinning finish on the trigger guard. Stock is very good with indentations, scratches and bruising. There is a small cut-out under the left side of the receiver where an old receiver sight was removed. Buttstock has been professionally shortened during the period of use and ends with a black spacer and Pachmayr ventilated rubber recoil pad, providing a 13.25" LOP. There are light scrapes on the barrel just ahead of the front ring. Receiver shows toning blue finish with minor marks. Bottom metal shows modest edgewear and light scratches. Stock is near excellent with light indentations, minor marks and light scratches. Butt ends with a checkered blue steel buttplate with the correct widow's peak top, providing a 13-3/8" LOP. Bore is very good with well-defined rifling and the action functions smoothly. Winchester Model 70 rifles in 7mm Mauser (7X57) are scarce, making this Super Grade example exceedingly rare. MEYER/SEATTLE/1936". Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining 90%-95% thinning finish, with scratches, mars and edgewear. There are areas of light scattered surface erosion, primarily on the action. Stock is very good with an oversized forend with an accessory rail on the underside. U.S. Winchester Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle, #469516, .30-06 cal., receiver marked "U.S./WINCHESTER/MODEL OF 1917/469516", with an eagle stamp on the left and the bolt action works properly. The 26" barrel is marked "W/(Flaming Bomb)/10-18". The visible parts are Winchester including the blued "W" bolt; the follower was ramped at the back to allow the bolt to close. This Winchester M1917 rifle was originally blued then arsenal refinished, and the re-parkerizing is overall very good. Stock is marked "W" on the front and an "R" is stamped in front of the magazine. Stock was sanded, oiled, and is in very good condition. Action works properly, bore is dark with very sharp rifling. Included is a Kerr, No Buckle sling in good condition. No import marks. Topped with a Picatinny rail, rings, and a Weaver CT 36 Micro-Trac fixed 36X rifle scope with an adjustable objective finished in matte black, with a fine wire reticle providing clear and bright optics. Scope is in excellent condition and includes a set of aluminum screw-on lens covers. Lot includes the consignor's notes and a Weaver instruction manual for the scope. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining 94%-95% thinning factory finish, with light scratches and handling marks. Left side of receiver is marked "U.S." in electric pencil. Colt Model 1917 Double Action Revolver, #115534, .45 ACP cal. (or .45 Auto Rim cal.),  5.5" barrel, receiver is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No./115534" on the bottom of the grip and has a lanyard loop; Colt logo and the 1918 eagle inspector stamp are marked on the left side. The number 226906 is marked on the frame and crane. Wood grips are good with some loss and appear varnished. The 5.5" barrel has the Colt markings and patent dates on top, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the bottom and "COLT D.A. 45" marked on the left side. The original blue finish is light from use and gone at the grip area and front of the barrel. Half-moon clips are needed to eject .45 ACP cases. (or .45 Auto Rim cal.), 5.5" barrel shows the S&W factory markings and patent dates on top, and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the bottom along with the serial number; receiver is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No./50746" on the bottom of the grip and has a lanyard loop. The 1918 eagle inspector stamp is on the upper left side. Wood grips are very good and appear varnished. Cylinder is marked 50746 and has a slight ring at the bolt stops. Left side of barrel is marked "S. & W. D.A. 45." Front sight has a burr on top from being hit. The original blued finish is good with wear at the grip area and barrel from holster wear. Fixed sights are standard military. Barrel is marked "HS" with a "P". The dark parkerizing may be a re-finish and is very good+ throughout, with wear to the top of the barrel. The single magazine is marked "JI" on the front and on the split base plate. Condition is good, with the original finish showing wear and patina spots. The walnut combination shoulder stock/holster is marked "S.A.LTD/1945" on the left side wrist. Condition is very good, with the original even color showing handling marks and paint scuffs ,especially to the left side. The tan cotton belt hanger is marked "Z.L.&T.LTD." and is in excellent condition. Pistol is marked "MK 1*/BROWNING FN 9MM HP INGLIS CANADA' on left side slide. Right side frame stamped with Canadian proof and property marks. Matching numbers on frame, slide, and barrel. Condition overall is very good, the metal retaining approx.60% original finish, with wear and patina to the front and rear grip straps, edgewear and fine patina to both sides of the frame and slide. U.S. Springfield Armory M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle, #438639, .30-06 cal., 24" barrel is marked "D6535448 1-60 284" with two Danish crowns. This rifle went to the Danish military after WWII ended and came back through the CMP. Receiver is marked "US RIFLE/CAL. .30 M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/438639". Bolt has the number 139 electric penciled on top. Sights were updated and the gas nut is marked BMB. The original military finish is good but getting lighter in some areas from use. Stock is unmarked and in very good condition with only the slightest handling wear. Buttplate is refinished black over heavy wear. Included is a new M1907 style leather sling in good condition. The 24" barrel is marked "P LMR D6535448 4-54 A51" on the right side. Barrel is import marked "BLUE SKY ARLINGTON, VA." on the left side behind the front sight. The parts are not matching and the light gray refinish is very good with wear on the gas cylinder. Stock is very good with a "P" at the pistol grip and dents on the handguard. The undated 18" barrel is marked "W" with a bayonet lug band showing a burred screw. The arsenal re-parkerizing is very good with patina on the bolt and recoil plate. The low-wood stock is marked "LW" in the sling well and "MR" (Mt. Rainer) on the left side of pistol grip with a "P" in front. Stock is very good with dents near the bayonet lug band and paint stains near the oiler well. The S-S3 marked buttplate is good showing wear. A partial Arlington, Va. import stamp is on the bottom of the barrel. Included are a late OD sling and a UN marked 15-rd. magazine mfg'd by Union Hardware. Action works properly, bore is very good. The parkerizing is good with spots of black paint and patina throughout. The low-wood Winchester stock is marked "BW/S/11" on the left side with handling marks throughout and was pinned in front of the magazine well. The 18" barrel is marked "ROCK-OLA/3-43" with a bayonet lug. Carbine was arsenal rebuilt and refinished with updated parts. The re-parkerizing is very good throughout. Stock is marked "RSG" in the sling well, "MR" on left side, "MR M" (Mt. Rainer Ordnance Depot) on right side and red paint, with "48" on the pistol grip. Stock is very good with light handling marks. German Gustloff-Werke bcd/41 code Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #174L, 8x57mm, 23.62" barrel, blued finish, laminated stock set with cupped buttplate, inverted "V" front sight with attached hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. A steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel, and a brown leather sling with the buckle marked "L&F" is mounted to the side. Condition for both is good, with wear to the cleaning rod and a cut to the top of the sling. Marked "Mod.98" on left side receiver rail. Top of receiver ring with "bcd/41". There are "eagle-swastika" firing proofs on the left side barrel and receiver. Barrel marked with "bys" code and three "(eagle)13" inspection stamps. Right side buttstock stamped with faint "eagle-swastika H" (Heer) mark over two faint partially visible inspection stamps. Underside of stock wrist has barely visible inspection stamp. Matching numbers with buttstock unmarked. Condition overall is very good, the metal retaining approx. 80% finish, with toning to the barrel bands, receiver ring, and trigger guard/magazine floorplate. The buttplate is dark with patina. Wood is very good with an even color. There is a bruise and crack to the top of the hand guard, and a gouge to the right-side wrist, along with other scratches and handling marks. Action operates smoothly, bright bore rates as very good with very good defined rifling. No visible import marks. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (C&R/PPT)

WWII German P.38 Spreewerk cyq Semi-Automatic Pistol, #7552Z, 9mm, 5" barrel, blued finish, black plastic grooved grips, drift adjustable blade front sight and fixed rear sight with "U" notch, hammer drop safety, lanyard loop, bottom magazine release, cog type hammer, and one blued steel magazine. Magazine is stamped "(eagle)/88" on the rear spine. Condition is good with wear, scratches, and patina to the finish. Pistol is marked on right side slide "(eagle)/partial firing proof/partial (eagle)88 final inspection stamp". There are additional "(eagle)88" stamps on the left side frame and barrel and right side of the blued block. Matching numbers on frame, slide, barrel and block. No import marks. Factory markings are mostly clear on the left side slide. Condition overall is very good, the metal retaining approx. 80% finish, with scattered patina spots and wear to the front grip strap. The reproduction grips are in excellent condition showing light use. Action and hammer drop safety function properly but the hold open will not keep the slide in the rear position; bright bore rates as very good with very good rifling. Est.: $800-$1,000. (C&R/PPT)
