WWII Japanese Officer's Shin-Gunto Sword, with Antique Family Hand-Forged Blade. The 24-5/8" shinogi-zukuri style blade has a san-bon suji style hamon temper line characteristic of the Mino school of sword making, dating from the Shinto period, around 1600-1700. The tang is unsigned with two mounting holes and old two-piece gold washed habaki. Mounts are mid-war period in style. Japanese Samurai Sword

Lot # 458 (Sale Order: 464 of 842)

Japanese Samurai Sword, with old unsigned blade, additions showing civilian service to the military in WWII. No scabbard. The 26.5" shinogi-zukuri shaped blade has a dragon horimono carved into one side, probably been added at a later date than when the blade was made; the other side features a short groove partially filled with red paint. No visible temper line due to blade condition. The tang is unsigned and heavily rusted, with four mounting holes. Old iron tsuba guard with brass depiction of water or stream and plants. There are two copper seppa spacers and a leather spacer that probably once had a tab with a snap for the scabbard which is missing. Copper fuchi/kashira handle fittings with engraved pine needles. Wood handle covered in rayskin and wrapped with black silk ito cord, with copper menuki of a bow, quiver, and arrows. At the top of the handle, a large copper wire has been inserted to allow a brown/blue military sword knot to be tied. Many civilians that worked for the Army were allowed to carry swords, and they used family blades and mountings, with adaptations for carry in the field. OAL is 38". Condition is fair, the blade having a dark rust patina overall, minor pinprick pitting, a few small edge nicks, but no heavy pitting. The tang is crusted with heavy red rust. The copper habaki is very tight and cannot be moved. The tsuba guard shows a light rust patina and is missing some of the brass inlay. There is a lot of play in the guard to handle fit. The copper handle fittings show dings and minor scratches, and age. The rayskin on the handle shows losses in several places. The silk cord wrapping, while showing much age and soiling, is remarkably intact with little fraying. The sword knot shows heavy age and soiling, with the blue portion only visible in the tassle at the bottom but shows little to no fraying. Est.: $400-$600.

WWII Vintage Czechoslovakian Vz.30 Signal Pistol

Lot # 466 (Sale Order: 472 of 842)

WWII Vintage Czechoslovakian Vz.30 Signal Pistol, #8228, 5" barrel, 9" overall length, weighing 2.1 lbs. About 24,000 of these 26.5mm pistols were made for the Czech military between 1933 and 1939 and many were used by the Germans during the war. Left side of the frame is marked with the rampant lion mark preceded by "J" and followed by "33". Left side of the breech has the lion mark above the trigger. Top of the breech is marked "?ESK... ZBROJOVKA AKC. SPOL. V PRAZE/8228/Vz.30", indicating mfg. at the Czechoslovakian Arms Joint Stock Co. Armory in Prague. Pistol is in excellent condition and has the high quality craftsmanship and finish of a pre-war gun. All steel construction, with the parts nicely polished and finished. The barrel has but a few small rust spots. The bore is excellent and appears very little used. The rotating breechblock shows no signs of use. Retracting the pin on the right side of the frame allows the hinged plate on the left side to open, exposing the firing mechanism. The one-piece wood grip is in very good condition, with nice finish and some small dents. A desirable example of a nicely crafted flare gun that survived WWII and remains in excellent condition. Est.: $600-$800. (No FFL required)

Scarce Dyer & Robson British Tip-Barrel Very Pistol

Lot # 467 (Sale Order: 473 of 842)

Scarce Dyer & Robson British Tip-Barrel Very Pistol, #303, 26.5mm, 4" barrel, 8" overall, weighing 1.15 lbs., ca. 1877 to 1889, by Dyer & Robson of London, who produced small numbers of Very pistols, including the more commonly found Model 1882 "Double Ender" with the rotating barrel. This tip-barrel model looks to be less common. Pulling the ejector rod forward allows the action to open. The spring properly pulls the rod forward upon opening, ejecting the fired case. The trigger return spring is weak or perhaps broken as the hammer will not stay cocked unless you push the trigger forward a bit to engage the hammer, then stays cocked though the trigger pull is light. The frame and breech both have the "(crown)V" London view marks on the left side. The breech has the "(crown)CP" London proof mark. Left side of the frame is marked "DYER & ROBSON/LONDON."; right side of the frame is marked "VERY'S PATENT." Inside of the frame, underside of the barrel block, and front of the ejector button are all marked with serial number 303. The brass looks to have been cleaned long ago as there are traces of dried white polish visible when the action is open. There is no indication of cleaning in recent times. Wood grips are in good condition. Bottom of the grips and frame have some battering, as if from hammering. The description "Very pistol" comes from Edward Very, the U.S. naval officer who developed and patented them in 1877, the flares still known as Very lights. Est.: $600-$900. (No FFL Required)
