J. Stevens-Lord No. 36 Tip-Up Single Shot Target Pistol, #1426, .22 LR cal., 10" octagon-to-round barrel, blued barrel, nickel frame, checkered walnut two-piece grips with wide weighted flared iron butt cap, Lyman No. 5 folding front globe and standard elevator U-notch rear sights, stylized trigger guard with finger extension, and later two-line address. Factory markings are clear, the frame marked with the correct serial number under the grips. Mfg'd 1880-1911. Pistol is in very good overall condition, retaining traces of original finish on the barrel drifting to gray patina. Frame shows considerable flaking nickel finish with scratches, scrapes and mars. Grips are very good with flattening of the checkering and small mars. The interior of the left panel is faintly marked with the matching number in pencil. Bore is fair with some light to moderate pitting closer to the muzzle and visible rifling. Action functions well and locks up securely. Limited to approx. 3500 in production, the Stevens-Lord No. 36 remains one of the more popular examples. Est.: $400-$600. (C&R/PPT)**

Lot of Two (2) Top-Break Double Action Revolvers: 1) Harrington & Richardson Auto Ejecting 2nd Model Revolver, #82448, .38 S&W (Black Powder) cal., 3.25" ribbed barrel, blue finish, checkered rubber two-piece grips with target monogram, color case hardened hammer and trigger, blade front and fixed U-notch rear sights, no caliber markings on left side of barrel. Mfg'd 1890-1904. In fine overall condition, retaining approx. 92%-93% thinning factory finish, with wear at the muzzle, thinning finish along the barrel and scratches. Cylinder shows leading edgewear, thinning finish and an index line. Hammer and trigger show muted color case hardening. Grips are fine with sharp markings and a good fit. Bore is good with light scattered corrosion and well-defined rifling. Action functions well and locks up securely. 2) Hopkins & Allen Model 1901 Revolver, #250495, .32 S&W cal., 3.25" ribbed barrel, nickel finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece Forehand & Wadsworth grips, color case hardened hammer and trigger. In fair overall condition, retaining traces of original nickel finish, the remainder of the metal surfaces going to brown patina with surface rust and erosion. Markings remain legible with a two-line "Forehand Arms" barrel address. Grips are good with a full-length groove carved into the left panel and sharp "F&W" monogram at the top of both panels. Smith & Wesson 38 Double Action Top-Break Perfected Revolver, #3525, .38 S&W cal., 4" barrel marked with the maker's name, address and 1896-1906 patent dates on top rib; tips up with 5-shot cylinder on large frame hinge. Frame has thumb-lever and entwined "S&W" logo at left, integral trigger guard and saw-handle straps with checkered hard rubber grips having the S&W logo at top. Mfg'd 1909-20. Condition is near excellent, retaining approx. 75% original deep-blue, fine case colors, sharp edges and markings. Unworn grips have sharp checkering and details with a .5" chip at right butt. Colt 1st Gen. Single Action Army Revolver

Colt 1st Gen. Single Action Army Revolver, #330719, .45 LC cal., 5.5" barrel, blue finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece Colt grips, blade front and fixed square-notch rear sights, smokeless frame with cross pin release, and one-line barrel address. Mfg'd 1914. Revolver is in good overall condition having gone to an even gray patina, with traces of original finish in the protected areas. Metal surfaces show scattered fine pinprick pitting and surface erosion from weathering and use. Caliber designation is faintly visible on the left side of the barrel, with a sharp patent date and Rampant Colt at the left bottom of the frame. Screw heads are good with minor buggering on the hammer screw. All matching visible serial numbers, with the inside of the loading gate marked "656". Grips are very good, fit well, and are original to the gun, marked inside with the serial number and inscribed by a previous owner, "BL HENSLEY". Bore is very good with scattered light corrosion and defined rifling. Action is crisp and the timing is good on this honest SAA with a good look.  Lot includes a copy of Colt Factory Letter. Mfg'd 1895-1909. Revolver is in near excellent overall condition, retaining 90%-95% flaking nickel finish with a couple of areas of loss on the cylinder. Brown leather holster has border stamping, belt loop at back, in very good condition. Indian Wars Era Remington New York State Contract Rolling-Block Military Rifle, NVSN, .50-70 CF cal., 36" round barrel with standard rifle sights has unusual 1" knurled "muzzle" threaded onto end of barrel, marked "71st Reg't. Team No. 3" at right under rear sight. Large receiver has hammer with tall, straight spur and right-facing breechblock thumb-piece peculiar to this contract, marked "50-70-450 U.S." at right side with maker's name, address & patent dates on upper tang. Full walnut forestock is held to barrel by 3 bands (middle with sling swivel), has iron nosecap and slotted/grooved ramrod; matching straight buttstock has curved buttplate marked "3." at top. Mfg'd ca. 1872. Condition is very good, with 50% thinning and darkening original blue, traces of case colors, sharp edges and markings. Antique Remington-Hepburn Heavy Barrel No. 3 Sporting Rifle, #2157 (or #4496), .40-2-1/2 CF cal., 30" heavy No. 4 octagonal barrel with 2 tapped holes (for sight, now missing) is marked "E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y." on top flat, "L 2157 S.T. (set triggers) 4 (barrel weight) 4889" under forearm, and "40.2 1/2" ahead. Unique receiver with dropping-block action operated by curved right-side lever has central hammer, 2 tapped holes on upper tang (for tang sight, now missing), adjustable double set triggers, marked "Hepburn's Pat./Oct. 7th, 1879" at right. Slender walnut forearm has an early bright-metal Schnabel nose, matching buttstock has a bulbous checkered shotgun-style pistol grip, tall comb and curved steel buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1883-88. Condition is good, retaining perhaps 25% thin barrel blue mixing with brown patina, 20% case colors but mostly now silvered, else smooth gray gunmetal with fine edges and markings. Antique Marlin-Ballard No. 5 Pacific Heavy-Barrel Breechloading Sporting Rifle

Antique Marlin-Ballard No. 5 Pacific Heavy-Barrel Breechloading Sporting Rifle, NVSN, .38 CF cal., 28" heavy (perhaps No. 4) octagonal barrel with buckhorn-style sights is unmarked. Long receiver is marked "Marlin Fire Arms Co. New Haven, CT, U.S.A." over "Ballard's Patent Nov. 6, 1861" at left, has ring-type lever (distinctive to the Pacific model) that when lowered drops down the breechblock for loading, auto-extraction. Two screw-filled holes are at upper tang (likely for tang sight, now not present). Double set triggers. Walnut forend has a curved pewter nose cap, the matching straight buttstock a similar curved pewter "collar" at juncture with frame, and a steel crescent buttplate. Made ca. 1881-91. Condition is very good, retaining 80% thinning barrel blue, silvered receiver, smooth metal, fine edges and markings. Pewter with a dull aged tone. Barrel has filled dovetails where ramrod ferrules once were, nose cap has a filled rod hole. Stocks are sound showing typical frontier use, the buttstock with secure full-length cracks (pewter nose cap and collar are likely period repairs). Forend has a 6" crack on the right side. Condition is very good, the barrel retaining 50% thinning and darkening blue with scattered oxidation, receiver has gone mostly dark/silvered. Sharp edges, very good markings. Long-flute 6-shot cylinder is unmarked. Solid frame has loading gate at right, separate trigger guard, integral saw-handle straps with 2-piece checkered hard rubber "bird's head" grips having an oval "Rampant Colt" at top, lanyard loop at butt. Mfg'd ca. 1896. Condition is good, having traces of nickel but generally smooth dark brown metal with scattered oxidation and roughness. Lot of Two (2) U.S. M1860 Enlisted Cavalry Swords, with Scabbards

Lot of Two (2) U.S. M1860 Enlisted Cavalry Swords, with Scabbards: 1) The 34.5" blade has large and small fullers, maker marked at the ricasso by "D. J. Millard", also marked "U.S.", "E.H.", 1862. Brass crossguard with flat quillion, three-branch finger guard is marked "8G" at the top where it meets the pommel. Grooved wood grip is covered with dark brown leather and is missing the wire wrapping. Brass pommel with markings on top of "G.H.W." and "54 H". Steel scabbard with two hanging rings. No visible inspector's markings on scabbard. Condition is fair, the blade has a cleaned spotted rust patina and age graying overall, but no edge nicks. Original leather blade washer is cracked and worn. Guard and finger branches are in good condition with a dark uncleaned patina, a few small dings, and scratches. Pommel shows light dings and scratches. Grip is cracked in the center from top to bottom. Leather is cracked along the same line showing scuffs and scratches. Guard and grip are a loose fit to the blade. Scabbard is heavily pitted with a dark rust patina overall and a couple of large dents near the bottom. 2) The 34.75" blade has large and small fullers, maker marked at the ricasso by Ames, also marked "U.S." "J.H.", 1860. Brass crossguard with turned-down quillion, three-branch finger guard with the outer branch bent down toward the other two. Grooved wood grip covered with dark brown leather and wrapped with a single twisted brass wire. Brass pommel marked "W.A.J" on top. Steel scabbard with two hanging rings and no visible inspector's markings. Condition is fair to good, the blade with a dark rust patina overall but no heavy pitting, some evidence of sharpening to the blade, and no edge nicks. The original leather blade washer is present and in good condition. Guard, branches, and pommel have a nice dark, uncleaned patina, with small scratches and dings from use. As mentioned above, the outer branch of the finger guard is bent down, and the main branch to the pommel shows a slight "S" shape bend. Wood grip is cracked in two places, the leather covering shows heavy scuffs, gouges, and losses to the leather. Wire wrapping is all intact and tight. Scabbard is lightly pitted with heavier pitting near the drag. It has a dark rust patina overall and one large dent near the bottom. Est.: $600-$900/Lot.

Lot of Two (2) 19th Century European Naval Cutlasses, resembling the British Pattern 1845 British but without any markings or proofs: 1) 28" long wide blade with a double edge near the tip, marked "41" in the ricasso area. Cupped steel guard with slot for sword knot or strap. Cast iron grooved grip, oval pommel cap, round capstan rivet on peened tang. Guard and grip are painted Japan black. No blade washer or scabbard. Condition is fair, the blade with a dark black rust patina overall, broken tip, and numerous small and large edge nicks. Guard shows heavy wear at blade base, and the guard and grip are a loose fit to the blade. Rust patina and flaking to the black paint surfaces. 2) 28.75" long wide blade with a double edge near the tip. No markings. Original leather blade washer present. Cupped steel guard with slot for sword knot or strap. Cast iron grooved grip, oval pommel cap, round capstan rivet on peened tang. Guard and grip are painted Japan black. No scabbard. Condition is good, the blade with a dark rust patina overall, with a few minor edge nicks. Guard and grip are tight to blade. Minor rust and flaking to the finish on the guard and grip. Civil War Enlisted Naval Cutlass, with Original Leather Scabbard

Civil War Enlisted Naval Cutlass, with Original Leather Scabbard. The 26" blade has a single wide fuller running 3/4s of the way down the blade. Blade and hilt are totally unmarked, with no maker's marks, inspector's marks, or rack numbers. It was most likely made by Ames, as they made just about all the naval cutlasses. Cupped brass guard is riveted to the finger guard. Brass pommel with tang peened at the top. Grooved wood grip covered with black leather. These swords did not use wire wrapping on the grip. Scabbard is black leather folded over and bound with copper rivets, with round brass frog stud. Condition is good, the blade showing age graying, scattered light rust spots overall, with some heavier rust mainly on one side. Brass guard and pommel have a nice dark uncleaned patina, with the usual small dings and minor scratches. Grip shows age with a few scuffs to the leather covering. Scabbard shows age, drying and cracking to the leather, scuffs, scratches, a small tear at the tip, and the frog stud is tearing loose. Est.: $250-$400.

Group of Four (4) German/Austrian Swords

Group of Four (4) German/Austrian Swords: 1) Austrian Model 1904 cavalry officer's sword, 31" plain nickel-plated blade with stamped maker's logo of crossed sabers and crossed hammers, with same logo stamped into the guard. Nickel-plated steel basket guard is pierced and engraved with floral designs. Smooth nickel-plated backstrap with checkered finger rest. Grooved wood grip covered in sharkskin and wrapped with a single twisted and two straight wires. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with one hanging ring and belt clip loop. Original leather blade washer present. Condition is very good, the blade is bright showing almost no age or wear, with a light coating of old grease. Guard and backstrap show scattered light rust spotting, age, and minor pitting, but should clean nicely. Grip shows some age and wear to the black dyed finish on the sharkskin, the wire wrapping is nice and tight. Scabbard shows light oxidation with a small patch or two of rust, and no dents. 2) German Model 1889 cavalry degen, with a 30.5" nickel-plated etched engraved blade with blued panel to the "Hus. Regt. Kaiser Nicholas II v. Russland(1Westf.) Nr.8", which is the Hussar regiment, named for Russian czar Nicholas II, 1. Westfalen Number 8. No maker's marks. Nickel silver folding guard with pierced Prussian eagle, black composite grip, nickel silver pommel and nut, and black painted steel scabbard with one hanging ring. Condition is fair, the blade showing age and some light rust stains, fading to the blued panel, and coated with old grease. May clean up to very good. The nickel silver hilt fittings show an uncleaned oxidized finish. Grip is broken with a large chunk missing from the inside edge. Scabbard shows heavy losses to the painted finish, a dark rust patina, and a couple of small dents. 3) German Model 1889 cavalry degen, with a 33.75" nickel-plated, etched engraved blade with etched panel to the "II POMM. Ulanen Regt. No.9", which is the II Pommeranian Ulan Regiment Number 9. No maker's markings. Nickel silver folding guard with pierced Prussian eagle, black composite grip, nickel silver pommel and nut. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with one hanging ring. Condition is fair, the blade showing scattered pepper rust, age, and several small edge nicks. The folding guard is bent slightly, the quillion is bent down and cracked on the side, the finger guard is dented and broken at the knot hole with a small piece missing. Grip has a small chip at the center and a large chip at the bottom. Scabbard has heavy rust peppering and losses to the plating, and several dents. 4) Wiemar to Nazi period German enlisted man's sword, with a 35" nickel-plated plain blade maker marked with the Alcoso logo. Nickel-plated steel crossguard, turned-down quillion, and backstrap. Black composite grip with triple twisted wire wrapping. No scabbard. Condition is very good, the blade is mostly bright with small spots of minor pitting and rust. Hilt fittings are very nice showing a light oxidized finish and should clean to almost mint. Grip is very nice with one small scratch and nice tight wire wrapping. Est.: $600-$900/Lot.

Lot of Three (3) Civil War Swords: 1) Model 1850 Foot officer's sword, with 30.5" etched decorated blade with large and small fullers, marked at the ricasso "W C", and "1862". No blade washer present. Gilt brass pierced guard with floral decorations, brass pommel with decorated border. Grooved wood grip covering in sharkskin and wrapped with a single twisted copper wire. No scabbard. Condition is fair, the blade etching mostly faded out, with a heavy rust patina, light and heavy pitting, but no edge nicks. Guard and pommel show a dark uncleaned patina with some of the gilt finish present only in protected areas. Grip has a large crack on the back side with some scuffs and losses to the sharkskin covering. The twisted wire is broken near the top and missing in the last groove. Nice tang peen on the pommel top. 2) U.S. Musician's sword, 28.25" blade with a single wide fuller, maker marked by Ames at the ricasso, and "U.S." "A.D.K." "1862". Brass crossguard and quillion, finger guard has been cut off with only a small portion remaining. Brass grip resembling twisted wire wrapping, round pommel. No scabbard. Condition is fair, blade has a dark rust patina overall, with no edge nicks. Brass crossguard and pommel show scratches and minor dings. British Naval Officer's Sword, ca.1775-1820

British Naval Officer's Sword, ca.1775-1820, with a small sword type guard and hilt (ca. 1775), but fitted with a later wide blade (ca. 1796-1820). The 32" blade shows engraved decorations that are worn and muted, and a wide single fuller running the full length. Blade has been nickel plated at some time in the past. There are no visible maker's marks. Hilt is gilded bronze with a flat and thin guard, having a beaded rim on top with engraved details of British flags, anchors, military motifs, and what looks like a family crest. There are quillions on both sides of the guard. The finger "D" guard is decorated in the center with a beaded diamond design. The urn-shaped pommel has small crowns engraved on both sides as does the lower part of the hilt under the grip which has tightly wound twisted brass or copper wire of two sizes. OAL is 38.25". There is no scabbard present. Condition is good, the blade showing muted details, oxidation and minor flaking to the nickel-plated finish, but no edge nicks. Hilt retains a fair amount of its original gold fire gilt finish, with wear to the high edges and sides of the pommel, numerous small scratches and scrapes overall, and soiling to the top of the guard. Grip wire is nice and tight. Hilt and guard are loose on the blade, with a lot of play. Guard is bent in the middle, a little more than normal. Est.: $400-$800.

British 1796 Pattern Enlisted Cavalry Sword, with a wide 33" curved blade and a single wide fuller. Maker marked on the back spine near the ricasso "Josh H Reddell & Co., who made swords in Birmingham around 1796-1821. Old, typed paper dealer tag taped to blade. Original leather blade washer present. Steel "P" guard with rounded quillion, missing one langet. Steel backstrap and grip ferrule. Tang peened at top of pommel. Grooved wood grip covered with leather and wrapped with a single wire. No scabbard. Condition is fair, the blade with age graying, scattered minor rust, and light rust patina overall, but no edge nicks. The guard and backstrap show a dark rust patina. Handle shows heavy wear and losses to the leather covering, but the grip wire is tight and intact. Est.: $200-$300.

U.S. Five-Ball Eagle Head Officer's Sword, ca. U.S. War of 1812. The 28.5" etched decorated blade has a single wide fuller running most of the way down the blade. No maker's markings. The original leather blade washer is present. Blade is decorated with faint floral designs, American eagle with "E Pluribus Unum" banner and military motifs. Brass crossguard with five-ball design and curved quillion. Brass five-ball finger guard, eagle head pommel, and fluted bone grip. No scabbard. Condition is good, the blade showing age graying, rust spots, rust stains and light pitting, but no edge nicks. Guard and pommel have a toned dark patina with remnants of gold gilt in some protected areas. There is a small crack at the joint of the fingerguard and crossguard. Bone grip is very nice, showing light age and soiling, but no cracks or chips. Guard and pommel are tight to the blade, with only the slightest movement in the grip itself. Est.: $250-$400.

U.S. Model 1840 Cavalry Saber, Made by Ames Mfg. Co. in 1847. The 35.5" curved blade is marked "N.P. AMES/CABOTVILLE/1847" on the left and "U.S./S.K." on the right. The blade was cleaned leaving light frosting throughout and there are no nicks. Brass guard has a nice patina with "S.K." stamped at the back and the leather washer is present. The leather wrap on the grip is excellent and may have been redone. Scabbard has light pitting at the bottom and a 4" seam opening near the top. Included is a M1885 leather hanger in good condition with a brass hook and marked "ROCKISLAND/ARSENAL". Est.: $600-$900.

U.S. Light Cavalry Saber (AKA M1860), Made by C. Roby in 1865. The 35" curved blade is marked "C.ROBY/W. CHELMSFORD/MASS." on the left side and "US/1865/A.G.M." on the right side. Blade was cleaned and shows light pitting with a nick 6" from the tip. Grip wire and brass guard are in good condition with a nice patina. Scabbard is marked" J.C."(?) on the drag and has some scattered light pitting and dents from use. There is a half-inch seam opened at the top. Est.: $500-$750.
