WW1 to 1930 German Enlisted NCO Sword, with Engraved Blade

Lot # 986 (Sale Order: 151 of 393)      

WW1 to 1930 German Enlisted NCO Sword, with Engraved Blade, nickel-plated "P" guard with smooth langets and down-turned quillion. Sharkskin covered grooved wood grip with triple twisted silver color wire wrapping. Nickel-plated 32" blade with a single wide fuller running about3/4s the length of the blade. Etched engraved floral and military motifs cover about half the blade length. Original red felt blade washer present. No maker's mark visible. Scabbard is blued steel with a nickel-plated fixed hanging ring that has been painted blue-gray to match the color of the scabbard. OAL is 40". Condition is very good, the blade showing light age and minor scuffs, with old dried grease in many areas and should clean nicely. The nickel-plated hilt fittings show light age, minor scratches, and some tiny flaking to the plated finish. Grip shows light wear and some very minor losses to the sharkskin covering, but all the grip wire is intact and tight. Hilt is tight to the blade with no play. Scabbard shows scuffs, scratches and scrapes, a couple of very light dings, and one larger dent on one side, with some wear to the paint on the hanging ring. Est.: $200-$300.

WWII German Walther ac-43 P.38 Semi-Automatic Pistol, with fkx-Coded Holster, #2777, 9mm, 4.9" barrel, blued finish, with ribbed Bakelite grips, drift adjustable blade front sight and fixed rear sight with U-shaped groove. Pistol also features a hammer drop safety, lanyard loop, and includes one blued steel magazine. Magazine is marked "P.38v" on the left side with an "(eagle)135" (upside down) waffenamt on the spine. Right side of slide is marked with Nazi eagle firing proof and two "(eagle)359" waffenamts. There is an additional "(eagle)359" waffenamt on left side of the frame. Matching numbers on barrel, frame, slide, and locking block. Import marked on back of the frame, below the hammer. Includes a black leather softshell 194? dated fkx holster. Backside of the holster with maker's mark and is also stamped with an "(eagle)WaA869" waffenamt. Pistol is in very good condition as refinished. Approx. 93%-95% blue remains with thinning to the barrel. Factory lettering and proof marks are still clear. Grips show some light scratching and other moderate handling wear. Action, hold open, and hammer drop all function properly. There is light erosion scattered throughout the bore, rifling is clearly defined and good overall. Holster is in good condition. Marked "BP" on receiver ring over a Swiss cross and (faintly) with a Swiss cross on shield symbol on the right-side buttstock. Condition overall is fair, the metal retaining approx. 65% finish, with wear and patina to the barrel bands, magazine/trigger guard, and buttplate. The red Bakelite operating handle has cracks and chips. Wood has been sanded and left unfinished. Condition is fair with a 2" section cracked and missing from the right-side hand guard. WWII Mauser K98k 337-1939 Code Berlin-Suhler-Waffen/Gustloff Bolt Action Rifle, #961, 7.9mmx57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, receiver marked "337" and dated 1939, with waffenampt "(eagle)1" proof marks on receiver and some of the small parts, 5-rd. internal magazine, drift adjustable inverted "V" front sight with sight hood and tangent rear sight adjustable from 1-20, bayonet lug and cleaning rod. One-piece wood stock is a replacement type from a post-War Yugoslavian Mauser, serial numbers on the side have been gouged out and stock re-numbered on the bottom edge, with side sling slot, flat buttplate, steel stock disc for bolt disassembly, early machined barrel bands marked with a "1" and re-numbered to action, bolt and many of the small parts have been re-numbered to match receiver, machined trigger guard and floorplate re-numbered to match, Nazi eagle firing proof on barrel and receiver, no visible import markings. Upper hand guard is laminated wood and shows dovetailed repairs on the top side. Condition is good, the barrel and receiver retaining some bluing in protected areas, the remainder fading to a light brown patina; the barrel bands, trigger guard, and floorplate show a refinished brown patina, with some rust on the trigger guard and floorplate. Action and safety work properly, bore is heavily frosted with definable lands and grooves. Stock shows light dings, minor gouges, scratches, and a dark oil-stained finish. Buttplate has been sanded clean but has some heavy rust at the top. Est.: $600-$800. (C&R/PPT)

Modified German Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #4425, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock set with flat buttplate, inverted "V" front sight and adjustable tangent rear sight with V-notch. A steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel and a muzzle cover is attached. Both are in good condition. Rifle is marked on top of receiver ring with original "BSW/1939" and "Mod.98" on the left side receiver rail. Rifle has been modified by stamping "4425", a spurious "eagle-swastika" proof mark on the left side receiver ring and barrel shank, and a spurious "C(eagle)4" stamp on the right side receiver ring. Another spurious "eagle-swastika" has been stamped on the right side buttstock. Matching numbers have been stamped on other parts. Condition overall is good as modified, the metal retaining approx. 30% finish, with parts showing cleaning and toning. There is rust across the buttplate. There is a repaired area to the right side sling slot and a cut and chipped area to the left side buttstock. Wood has been sanded and stained, now in good condition. Composite German Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #44114, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, laminated stock set with cupped buttplate, inverted "V" front sight with attached reproduction hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. A very good condition reproduction steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel. "Mod.98" marked on left side receiver rail. Other original markings have been removed, a spurious "(eagle)135/byf/41" have been stamped into the top of the receiver ring, and "eagle-swastika" marks have been stamped into the left side receiver and barrel shank. A serial number has been gouged out of the left side buttstock, and "eagle-swastika" marks have been stamped into the right side buttstock with a matching serial number stamped into the toe. Matching numbers added to bolt shroud and front band. Condition overall is good, the metal retaining approx. 50% finish, with patina to the muzzle, magazine floorplate/trigger guard, and buttplate. There is a repair to the left side forend. Wood is good with a crack to the wrist behind the receiver tang and overall darkening to the finish. Bore has frosting forward of the lead, otherwise rates as good with good rifling. Action operates smoothly. No visible import marks. Est.: $500-$700. (C&R/PPT)

Composite German Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #8558, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock set with cupped buttplate, inverted "V" front sight with attached loose-fitting hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. A very good condition reproduction steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel. "Mod.98" marked on left side receiver rail. Other original markings have been removed, a spurious "ax/ar/41" has been stamped into the top of the receiver ring and "eagle-swastika" marks have been stamped into the left side receiver and barrel shank. Barrel bands have been re-numbered to match and the floorplate/trigger guard have mismatched numbers. "WaA 26" marks have been added to the right-side buttstock, and a matching number has been stamped into the toe of the buttstock. Condition overall is good, most of the finish has been cleaned from the metal, and there is patina and rust to the magazine floorplate and buttplate. Wood is fair with a thru-crack at the wrist and overall darkening and handling marks. The muzzle has been counter bored. Bright bore rates very good with very good defined rifling. Lot of Three (3) WWII German Luftwaffe Helmets: 1) Double Decal M-35 Helmet, with non-original gloss gray brushed-on paint, exterior and interior. Luftwaffe (Airforce) decal 75+% applied over gloss repaint, Tri-Color decal 70% with scratches and chips applied over gloss repaint. Post-war reproduction leather liner in complete unworn condition, with shoelace for drawstring, complete chinstrap with maker's name, dated 1940, in good condition, shell size 'ET 66' and lot number '3872'. Interior paint is also repainted with no dome stamp present. Has white painted name in rear of skirt "Dittmyer" and "III/Flakreg6". Helmet has been totally restored. 2) Double Decal M-40 Helmet, with original textured dark field gray paint 70+% with scratches, surface rust and wear on dome and exterior. Original Luftwaffe (Airforce) decal 30+% with much missing. Original Tri-Color decal 70% with scratches and chips. Original leather liner is in complete good condition, some drying, mildew and flaking; non-original drawstring and partial chinstrap is present. Interior paint shows some surface rust with no dome stamp present. No other stamps or markings are visible. 3) Single Decal M-40 Helmet, with original textured dark field gray paint 60+% with scratches, surface rust and wear on dome and exterior. Entire exterior and interior skirt have been covered with high-gloss varnish. Original Luftwaffe (Airforce) decal 40+% and is under the varnish coating. Original leather liner in complete well-worn condition, some drying and dirt "E L" inked on liner, with original drawstring. Complete chinstrap is present showing heavy wear. Interior paint shows some surface rust with no dome stamp present. "10407" stamped in rear of skirt, no other stamps or markings are visible. Est: $500-$700/Lot.

CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka) Model 24 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #181831, .380 ACP cal., 3.5" barrel, blade front and V-notch fixed rear sights, ring hammer, blue finish, checkered composite CZ marked two-piece grips, lanyard loop, with one unmarked 8-rd. magazine. Lot includes a period black leather police style flap holster in very good conditio,n with tight seams and additional unmarked 8-rd. magazine. Mfg'd 1937. Pistol is in very good overall condition, retaining approx. 80%-85% thinning blue finish, with intermittent thinning of finish along the length of the slide, small mars and areas of surface erosion noted. Pistol is dated "37" and there is a crisp "CZ" at the right rear of the frame. Slide has a full-length filed rib marked "CESKA ZBROJOVKA A. S. v PRAZE" with a Czech lion proof. Trigger shows muted straw finish. The checkered composite grips are good with small mars and would benefit from a cleaning. Bore is very good and the action functions well on this pre-WWII Czech pistol. Mfg'd from 1924-1938 with production of over 175,000, half of which went to the Czechoslovakian Army. Est.: $400-$600. Lot includes a period gray leather police style flap shoulder holster in good condition with tight stitching and an extra unmarked magazine. Mfg'd 1942. Pistol is in fine overall condition, retaining 90%-95% high-polish blue finish, with holster wear at the muzzle. Slide and frame show edgewear and the straps show modest edgewear. Ringed hammer shows muted color case hardening. Markings are sharp with an Italian proof on the right side of the trigger guard. Left side of the frame is marked with an "RE" under a crown for Regio Esercito (Royal Italian Army). Left side of the slide is marked "P. BERETTA - CAL. 9 CORTO - MO 1934 - BREVET./GARDONE V. T. 1942 - XX". No visible import marks noted. Textured plastic grips are near excellent and fit well. Bore is very good with strong rifling and the action functions smoothly on this WWII era Beretta. Both have late features including fixed rear sight with aperture, smooth cocking piece, wooden buttplates, no model number on receiver rings, and no provision for a cleaning rod: 1) #18772. Inverted "V" front sight without protectors and oblong bolt knob. Mum crest has been ground off of receiver ring. Marked on left side receiver rail with 35th Series mark and the symbols for the Toyo Kogyo Arsenal. Matching numbers on bolt handle and extractor, no number on bayonet lug. Condition overall is fair, the metal retaining approx. 80% finish with parts toning brown. Wood is good showing old dents and scratches. Action operates smoothly, dark bore is poor with rust and fair rifling. 2) #43491. Inverted "V" front sight with protectors and straight bolt knob. Intact mum crest on top of receiver ring. Marked on left side receiver rail with 10th Series mark and the symbol for the Nagoya Arsenal. Mismatched number on bolt handle and extractor, no number on bayonet lug. Condition overall is fair, the metal retaining approx. 60% finish, with toning to the trigger guard and magazine floorplate. Wood has several putty repairs and has been sanded and oiled, now in fair condition, with handling marks. Action operates smoothly, dark bore is poor with poor worn rifling. Est.: $300-$500/Lot. Bolt with winged safety lever. Walnut fullstock carries numerous markings at forend, wrist, belly, carved initials and "1/25/3/09" at right butt. All visible serial numbers match. Condition is good, showing overall smooth brown aged patina to the metal, with sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound with scattered generally light age and use marks. Pistol also features a hammer drop safety, lanyard loop, and includes two (2) blued steel magazines. Left side of the first magazine is marked "P.38"; spine with "(eagle)WaA706" waffenamt, and "jvd". The second magazine is marked "jvd" on the left side. Right side of slide is marked with "(eagle)359" waffenamt. There is an additional "(eagle)359" waffenamt on left side of the frame. Matching numbers on barrel, frame, slide, and locking block. No import marks. Includes a hardshell black leather holster. No maker's marks are visible. Backside is stamped "P38". Pistol is in good overall condition. Approx. 75% factory metal finish remains. There is light rust patina present on the front grip strap and mild pitting, primarily on right side of the slide. Grips show handling wear that is consistent with the overall condition of the pistol. No cracks, but general light scratches and handling marks. Action, hold open, and hammer drop all function properly. There is mild pitting scattered throughout the bore. Lands and grooves are still clearly defined. Holster is in fair condition showing overall scuffs, scratches, and some light cracking to the flap. One of the belt loops looks like a period field replacement. Lifting strap is present. WW1 helmet that was repainted and relined for Heer (Army), repainted in textured dark green paint 80% showing surface wear and scuffs. Heer (Army) decal 70% which has been applied over exterior paint, showing age. Tri-Color National shield 60% applied over repainted shell. Non-original replaced Third Reich style leather WWII liner band with reproduction leather pads. Chinstrap is missing. WW1 helmet that was reissued for SS Schutzstaffeln, paint is green paint 80% showing surface rust and scuffs. SS decal on right side is 60%, applied over exterior paint, showing age and is suspect. National shield 80% well applied and looks period applied. Portion of WW1 style leather liner band with remnants of two leather pads is present. Chinstrap is WWII type sewn to WW1 type hooks and is quite weathered. 3) Heer (Army) Double Decal Child's Helmet. WW1 style helmet shell made of lightweight stamped steel in small scale for child's wear. Painted in textured feldgrau paint 80% showing surface rust, wear and scuffs. Small scale Heer (Army) decal 90+%, showing minor wear and age. Tri-Color National shield is also scaled down and is 80% applied over original shell paint. Has two non-functional vent horns. Lot of Two (2) German Heer (Army) Double Decal M-40 Helmets: 1) Original green paint 70%, with minor rust over most of exterior, scattered scratches on the outside, Heer (Army) decal 75+% remaining, looks to be reapplied. National Tri-Color shield on right side approx. 70% remaining also appears to be reapplied. Original wartime leather liner in complete excellent condition with some dryness and original drawstring present, size '56' ink stamp. "R. W. Borgwaydt" is inked on liner in two places. Shell size is marked "Q 64" and "N510", no chin strap. 2) Non-original green paint 65%, with corrosion and scuffs over most of exterior. Heer (Army) decal in 60+% condition. National Tri-Color shield on right side approx. 50% remaining with rub marks. Original light tan leather liner in complete excellent condition with original drawstring and "58" size stamp on one tongue. Shell size and maker are not readable thru repaint. WWII German Luftwaffe (Air force) Single Decal M-35 Helmet. Entire shell surface has been brush painted with textured dark field gray paint 80+%, with surface rust and some nicks and scratches. Helmet has what appears to be period original crossed thin wire over dome and around middle of shell hooked to rivets and shell rim. Original Luftwaffe (Air force) decal in excellent condition with approx. 70+% remaining has been applied over brushed paint. Original leather liner in complete heavily worn condition, some drying and dirt, has original drawstring. Complete chinstrap is present showing heavy wear, with maker's name and 1937 date, also has 'LBA' Luftwaffe acceptance stamp. Interior paint shows some chipping, rust and dirt, dome stamp not present, but '387' has been painted in white large numbers in the top. Size stamp 'ET 64' and lot number '3304' stamped in real of skirt, no other stamps or markings are visible. Looks to be an original period helmet with wire for camo application installed. Replaced post-war Norwegian style dark brown leather liner in complete lightly worn condition has been installed with non-original shoelace drawstring, no chinstrap is present. Lot of Two (2) WWII German Luftwaffe (Air force) Double Decal Helmets: 1) M-35 Helmet. Original textured dark field grey paint 40+% with heavy scattered surface rust and wear on dome and exterior. Original Luftwaffe (Air force) decal 30+% with much wear and partially scratched off. Original Tri-Color decal has been painted over with green paint, probably done to meet regulation to remove Tri-Color shield by scraping or painting over. Original leather liner in complete good condition, some drying and flaking with replaced non-original drawstring. Original WWII chinstrap with aluminum fittings is present but well worn and very dry. Interior paint shows some surface rust with no dome stamp present. Shell is marked "Q 68" and "21441" lot stamp, no other stamps or markings are visible. 2) M-40 Helmet. Shell looks to have been over spray painted in light gray paint with light surface rust and scratches. Original Luftwaffe (Air force) decal in complete approx. 80% condition. Original Party shield decal on right side 35+% with major chips and scratches. Helmet looks to have been reworked and reissued and both decals could have been applied at that time. Original leather liner is present and possibly reinstalled in complete very good condition. Large"56" size ink stamped on liner, has drawstring. Chinstrap is made of a web WWII German equipment strap and buckle that has been well installed showing little wear. Interior paint shows some runs from re painting around interior of skirt. No dome stamp present. Size stamp 'S 64' and lot number '6380' stamped in rear of skirt, no other stamps or markings are visible. Looks to be an excellent reissue double decal helmet. Composite German Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #9117, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, laminated stock set with cupped buttplate, inverted "V" front sight with attached reproduction hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. A fair condition steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel. Barrel shank marked "avk 87". Other original markings have been removed, and top of receiver ring has been re-marked "bnz/44". Spurious "eagle-swastika" stamps and SS markings have been added to the left side receiver and barrel, and a "Death's Head" has been stamped on the underside of the stock wrist. Serial numbers have been removed from the bolt assembly, barrel bands, and carved out of the left side buttstock; there are now matching numbers on the receiver, barrel, bolt handle, and magazine floorplate. Condition overall is good, the metal retaining approx. 40% refinished bluing, with patina to the buttplate. There is a 5" de-lamination crack to the stock wrist behind the receiver tang. Wood is otherwise good with applied stain over old handling marks. Action operated smoothly, bore rates as fair with frosting forward of the lead and good rifling. No visible import marks. Composite German Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #3029, 8x57mm, 23.6" barrel, blued finish, laminated stock set with cupped buttplate, inverted "V" front sight with attached hood and adjustable tangent rear sight. A bent, poor condition steel cleaning rod is mounted under the barrel. Original markings have been removed, now re-marked "bnz./43" on top of receiver ring and "Mod 98" on left side receiver rail. A spurious "eagle-swastika/SS" mark has been stamped on the left side barrel shank, and a "Death's Head" has been stamped into the underside of the stock wrist. Parts have been re-numbered to match with numbers removed from the front band and bolt shroud. Condition overall is fair, the partially refinished metal retaining approx. 40% of its now toned bluing. Wood is good with a pinned repair to the sling slot and an overall rough dark appearance to the finish. Action operates smoothly, bore rates as poor with pitting and frosting forward of the lead with fair worn rifling. No visible import marks. Est.: $400-$600. (C&R/PPT)

Early Beretta Model 1934 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #510925, .380 ACP cal., 3.38" barrel, blade front and fixed rear sights, ring hammer, high-polish blue finish, textured plastic Beretta marked two-piece grips, lanyard loop, and one unmarked magazine with finger rest. Mfg'd 1936. Lot includes a period gray leather flap style police holster with an additional unmarked magazine, in very good condition with tight stitching. Pistol is in near fine overall condition retaining 85%-90% high-polish blue finish with holster wear at the muzzle, along the slide and highpoint edgewear throughout. There is scattered surface erosion and pinprick pitting on the slide. Straps show thinning finish and edgewear. The ringed hammer shows muted color case hardening. Markings are sharp with Italian proofs on the frame and trigger guard. Left side of frame is marked with an "RE" under a crown for Regio Esercito (Royal Italian Army). Left side of slide is marked "P. BERETTA - CAL. 9 CORTO - MO 1934 - BREVETTATO/GARDONE V. T. 1936 - XIV". No visible import marks noted. The textured plastic grips are very good and fit well. Bore is very good with strong rifling and the action functions smoothly on this early Model 1934 Beretta. Est.: $600-$800. (C&R/PPT)
