(C) TOKYO ARSENAL TYPE B "BABY NAMBU" SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER.

Lot # 1234 (Sale Order: 102 of 519)

The Baby Nambu was so named as it looked like a scaled down version of the previous "Grandpa" and "Papa" Nambus. While it was never officially adopted, it was approved for private purchase, but the cost coupled with the preference for the sword as the sidearm of choice made it so that the Baby struggled to gain traction. Typical configuration in 7mm Nambu with barleycorn front sight, V-notch rear sight, right side of slide with kanji for "Nambu Shiki" (lit. Nambu Type), Tokyo Arsenal "stacked cannonballs" on top of slide ahead of ejection port. Matching full or partial serial numbers observed on slide, locking block, barrel (internally, on lug), bottom of bolt, and magazine; striker does not depress and cannot be removed, so internals were not checked. Two piece checkered walnut grips, left scale with matching number, right with no numbers. In a pigskin holster with shoulder strap, dummy cord, and pouch for ammo. CONDITION: Gun retains approximately 40-50% of the blue with heavy thinning to dove grey patina and scattered pinprick oxidation similar to guns exposed to saltwater display, mostly on slide and backstrap. Grips with some impressions and handling marks. Holster leather is supple with some crazing, and wear at hinge points. Some stitching on the rear body is missing, in the shape of a triangle. Mechanically fine, excepting aforementioned bolt stop sticking, bore with well defined rifling, somewhat softened, and very mild frosting. Accessories: Leather holster Barrel Length: 3 - 1/2" Caliber/Bore: 7mm Nambu Manufacturer: Koishikawa Model: Baby Nambu Serial Number: 3276

(C) SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1940 MKI SEMI-AUTOMATIC LIGHT RIFLE.

Lot # 1235 (Sale Order: 103 of 519)

Smith & Wesson developed a light intermediate rifle chambered in 9mm Parabellum for Britain, who were in dire need of small arms. The 1940 trials proved unsuccessful, stress cracks developing in some receivers after just 1000 rounds of hotly loaded ammunition. Although a reinforced Mark II was built, Britain ended the program and destroyed the weapons. American interest also proved limited due to the nonstandard 9mm chambering. Smith & Wesson retained a small portion rifles produced but did not initially sell them on the civilian market due to their then NFA short barrel status. In 1975 the surviving 137 MK I and 80 MK II rifles were exempted from NFA regulation and sold to collectors. This very fine and scarce MK I remains in its original configuration with blued finish throughout. Standard fluted 9 - 3/4" barrel with blade front sight and adjustable square notch rear sight. Pistol grip stock is black composite with a blued serrated steel butt plate. Unlike most examples, no warning plaque appears to have been mounted on the stock. Rifle is accompanied by a Roy Jinks factory letter, original leather sling, 5 total magazines 4 of which are in their original cardboard, and a barrel wrench. CONDITION: Excellent. Nearly all of the original factory blue is displayed throughout with some loss on the charging handle and other scattered marks. Some light oxidation spots present on the magazine and base of the magazine housing. Stock rates excellent. Mirror bore. Fine mechanics. A very rare and interesting WWII experimental rifle. Accessories: 4 extra magazines, wrench Barrel Length: 9 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Luger FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Model: M1940 Light Rifle Paperwork: Smith & Wesson letter Serial Number: 867

(C) RARE SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1940 MKII SEMI-AUTOMATIC LIGHT RIFLE.

Lot # 1236 (Sale Order: 104 of 519)

In 1939 Britain contracted with Smith & Wesson to develop a light rifle chambered in 9mm Parabellum as an intermediary between their handguns and full size .303 arms. Trials began in 1940 with little success as after only 1,000 rounds of the hotly loaded English ammunition, stress cracks formed in some of the receivers. A Mark II was developed with a reinforced receiver and 200 were produced to little avail, with Britain ending the program and destroying their stocks of the innovative rifles. Rifle is accompanied by a Roy Jinks factory letter, manual, original leather sling, 5 total magazines 3 of which are in their original cardboard, and a barrel wrench. CONDITION: Excellent. Nearly all of the original factory blue is displayed throughout with minor handling marks. Some light oxidation spotting also present in the barrel flutes. Stock is excellent with only a few handling marks. Mirror bore. Fine mechanics. A fantastic example of a very interesting WWII experimental rifle, one of approximately 80 in collector hands. Accessories: 4 extra mags, wrench Barrel Length: 9 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Luger FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson Model: M1940 Paperwork: Smith & Wesson Letter Serial Number: 1643

(C) FINE WWII GERMAN J.P. SAUER AND SOHN M30 LUFTWAFFE DRILLING WITH CASE AND CAPTURE PAPERS.

Lot # 1241 (Sale Order: 109 of 519)

Manufactured to period commercial standards, approximately 2,500 M30 drillings were built for the Luftwaffe from 1941 to 1942. Carried by aircrews, especially those serving in North Africa, the drillings could be used to kill game and for self-defense if their aircraft was downed. It is also believed Herman Goring gifted many to officers. These guns feature 12 bore shotgun barrels over a single potent 9.3x74mmR rifle barrel. The "KRUPP-LAUFSTAHL" marked barrels are finished in polished rust blue with a matted rib, silver bead blade front sight, and 100 meter rear sight which flips up when the rifle barrel is selected. Breeches feature engraved bands and the "JP. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" name, as well as a Luftwaffe eagle on the right. Barrel flats marked with standard German nitro proofs and Luftwaffe eagle over "2" acceptance marks. Case hardened scalloped boxlock tastefully engraved with light scroll as well as the intertwined "SS" Sauer monogram on the underside. Checkered walnut splinter forend. Oil finished select grain checkered pistol grip stock with case hardened grip cap, European cheek piece, and "SS" monogrammed ribbed black plastic butt plate. Right side displays a large Luftwaffe eagle. Matching numbers observed on the frame, tang, barrels, and forend. Drilling is housed in its correct gray painted aluminum transit chest stenciled on the lid "Drilling M 30 / mit Munition u. Zubehor / ce". Chest includes an original manual, 10-round box of RWS 9.3x74mmR ammunition, partial 10-round box of RWS 12 gauge slugs, D.R.G.M. leather sling, and cleaning tools. An included February 14th, 1946 dated capture certificate, which includes mention of a German rifle, no serial number listed, appears to be signed "Jack R. Olderberg / 1st Lt CE" with no owner name listed, likely indicating the officer signing off on his own trophies. CONDITION: Near excellent. 97%+ original blue retained on the barrels with some light scattered marks and rubs. Receiver also retains the vast majority of its rich and vibrant case colors, some areas starting to fade to patina. Wood is very fine with some light handling marks. Sharp checkering and Luftwaffe stamp. Fine bright bores. Crisp mechanics. Case is very good with approximately 90% original paint and clear markings. Accessories rate very good overall. The 12 gauge box has some separation and tape repairs. An overall outstanding and very complete set. A must-have for the World War II arms collector. Accessories: Case, Ammo, Accessories Barrel Length: 26" Caliber/Bore: (O) 12 Bore (U) 9.3X74mmR FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: J.P. (A) FINE AND RARE DOCUMENTED SHARPS MODEL 1874 LONG RANGE NO. 3 RIFLE.

Lot # 1245 (Sale Order: 113 of 519)

This beauty was the cover gun in the 2021 fall edition of The Texas Gun Collector magazine, with the accompanying article on pages 22 & 23. Rifle is accompanied by a Sharps research letter written by Dr. R.L. Moore on November 27, 1990. The letter lists as follows: Number 155696 was invoiced on December 23, 1875 to Sharps agent E.S. Harris of NYC, noted as a Model 1874 Long Range Target Rifle #3. The caliber is .44 and was sold complete with target sights and spirit level (with accessories) and was produced at the Hartford plant. The long range tang sight has a matching serial number on the right side of base; according to Tom Rowe, this is an extra long range with a 6" elevation and a rarity rating of 5. The full octagon barrel measures 34". The walnut stock and forearm are factory hand checkered with a slight Schnabel to the tip. The steel butt plate is coarsely factory checkered. There is no provision for any rear barrel mounted sporting sight. Barrel breech is stamped for .44 caliber (.44-90). Barrel is also stamped "SHARPS RIFLE CO. E. HARTFORD CONN". The left side of the receiver is stamped SHARPS RIFLE CO. PAT APR 6, 1869. Original factory finish is blue and case color. Rifle is also accompanied by a copy of the original shipping ledger. CONDITION. Excellent. There is still some nice case color, mostly on the left side and top of the receiver, while majority has simply patterned and darkened. All legends are crisp. There are still flashes of nitre blue on some screws with some slight slot distortion. The barrel shows high edge wear on the razer sharp edges and retains vast majority of dulling blue with some patina bleeding. The front sight glass level and bubble are still viable. The beautiful stocks have a piano finish with sharp checkering and just the usual scattered minor impressions. The bore is well defined but frosted a bit with very minor abrasion. It is believed that only 13 Long Range models were ever made at the Hartford plant. Rarity, condition, and history; always a winning combination. Barrel Length: 34" Caliber/Bore: .44-90 Sharps FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Sharps Model: 1874 Long Range No. 3 Paperwork: Factory Letter Copy, Publication Serial Number: 155696

(A) RARE U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1871 WARD BURTON CARBINE

Lot # 1250 (Sale Order: 118 of 519)

This firearm has the distinction of being one of the first cartridge bolt actions issued by the US Government but proved so unpopular that only 316 were ever made. Despite its lack of production, it played an important part in American History as well. The famous Yellowstone Expedition of 1873 was deployed to survey a route for the Northern Pacific Railroad along the Yellowstone river through the Dakota and Montana territories. The commander of this group was Colonel David S. Stanley but his second in command was none other than George Armstrong Custer. Their survey took them through the land belonging to the Lakota Sioux whose famous leaders included Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Rain in the Face. It is ironic that Custer survived this expedition only to die at the hands of these three Sioux chiefs less than three years later. George's brother Thomas was among the Yellowstone group of 7th Cavalry officers to be killed at the Bighorn. This bolt action single shot carbine is stamped US SPRINGFIELD 1871 on left side of frame. Top of bolt has the Ward Burton 1871 patent legend. There is no visible sign of the ESA Erskine Allen cartouche on left side of walnut stock. These carbines were chambered for the 50-70 cartridge, featured one barrel band, a folding ladder rear sight and carbine metal butt plate. None bore any serial numbers. CONDITION: Very good. All metal is a grey patina with scattered salt and pepper texture and some age freckling. Stock is very good with usual assorted dings and bruises and one hair line in loading groove of stock. Does have some added finish. All legends are sharp. Action works fine. Bore is sharp with some abrasion and light pitting. This carbine played an important part in the American expansion west. Accessories: rifle information Barrel Length: 22" Caliber/Bore: 50/70 FFL Status: Antique Length of Pull: 14" Manufacturer: Springfield Model: M1871 Paperwork: Information Serial Number: NSN

(C) RUSSIAN CONTRACT COLT 1911 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL

Lot # 1256 (Sale Order: 124 of 519)

As per the included copy of a Colt letter, this pistol was shipped as part of a shipment of 2,500 on March 31st, 1916, directly to the Russian Government. These pistols were produced in 2 distinct variations, one as standard Government Models, and the other with special Cyrillic markings on the dust cover that translate to "English Make"; those marks typically appear on numbers above 50,000, and are not present on this gun. These rare guns were shipped into Murmansk and Archangel before distribution to Russian forces; beyond that little of their history is known, however, there is one account that a 1911 was used to kill the Romanovs. Standard configuration parts include half-moon front sight, U-notch rear sight, 2 line 2 block patent and address information on left side of slide, with uncircled Rampant Colt at the rear of the slide, right side with Colt caliber information. Frame with "GOVERNMENT MODEL", serial number, and small subinspections. Spurred checkered hammer, checkered slide release with milled relief area, checkered thin tab safety with milled area, long milled trigger, checkered magazine release, short 1911 grip safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, checkered walnut grip scales. 2-tone magazine. CONDITION: Overall very good, retaining the majority, approximately 60-70% of the Colt bluing, with silvering and handling marks throughout, concentrated to slide. Typical takedown mark and pings around slide release from improper installation. Appropriate distension around proofs from application of stamp. Straps have thinning and silvering throughout, consistent with the heavy use these pistols underwent. Grips appear to be period replacements. Mechanically fine, excepting occasional tendency to hammer follow, bore is excellent with strong rifling and some mild frosting. No import mark observed. This is a very good example of a very scarce pistol. Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1911 Paperwork: Copy of Factory Letter Serial Number: C32898

(C) SCARCE FIRST FULL YEAR OF PRODUCTION KONGSBERG MODEL 1914 DATED 1918 SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL.

Lot # 1257 (Sale Order: 125 of 519)

At the turn of the century, Norway was experimenting with the adoption of a new pistol for their army, and found that the Colt 1911 in .38 was an ideal weapon for them, purchasing 25 through Colt's London Agency for troop trials in 1911. In the same year, Colonel Krag returned and informed them that the US had adopted the guns in .45 ACP, causing them to pause the adoption of the .38s while experimenting with the .45s. In 1914 they redid the tests, and on September 24th, 1914, the Norwegian Minister of Defense officially adopted the pistol for Army and Navy use. They negotiated for the rights for domestic production, and produced the first 95 pistols in December 1917. This example, serial number 500, is one of the guns made during the first full year of production with classic Norwegian features such as the distinct extended and dropped slide release, numbered parts throughout, and a 1918 date on right side of frame over an "A" inspection mark for Halvdan Alstad. Matching numbers observed on interior of slide, firing pin retaining plate, left side of slide, recoil guide rod, bushing, barrel (which also has an A inspection), left side of frame, reverse of magazine release, trigger, thumb safety, ejector, grip safety, and mainspring housing. With a previous description when sold at auction, assigning provenance to the Gus Cargile collection, and reporting that this gun reputedly was the first gun shipped the extended slide stop. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the vast majority of an arsenal style enamel paint finish, with thinning to bare metal at sharp edges throughout, with some areas of fine oxidation under the paint, and legends softened. Grips are very good with some handling marks and a couple abraded heads, left scale with two fine cracks at screw. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong visible rifling and mild even frosting throughout. A very desirable and early Norwegian 1914. Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Kongsberg Model: M1914 Paperwork: Previous auction listing Serial Number: 500
