DETROIT BAIT MFG CO NORTH CHANNEL MINNOW IN BOX

Lot # 1232 (Sale Order: 232 of 622)

3 - 1/2" Length. Unequaled condition on this combo: the minnow looks unfished, with its metal parts showing very little if any oxidizing, and bearing none of the hook wear circles normally associated with these baits. Blemish-free gold sparkle glass eyes, three upward sweeping hand-painted gill marks, and plainly stamped "NORTH CHANNEL" down the right side. The minnow itself is quite a prize, but the box is an absolute treasure. Only a handful of these are known and this example could quite possibly be the nicest one out there.

DETROIT WIGGLETAIL IN UNMARKED WOODEN BOX

Lot # 1233 (Sale Order: 233 of 622)

2 - 1/2" Length. With only a handful of these known, this lure can be counted among the rarest of the rare. Only advertised in 1912, The Wiggle Tail Minnow Company seems to have mainly done its business by mail order, charging $1 postpaid for one of these more than 110 years ago. There are only a small handful of these Wiggle Tails accounted for, and this being the only one with a box associated with it; however, it is not currently possible to determine whether or not the manufacturer actually used these boxes to ship their minnows. This box is in quite nice condition, but it is not marked in any way. The bait itself utilizes an unmarked, Shakespeare-style rear-oriented prop for its forward propeller, and it has protruding white iris glass eyes, as the body was not drilled for any sockets. White or possibly once luminous paint shows some flaking, indicating there was not likely a primer coat of paint used at the factory. Moonlight-style side hook hangers and its signature aluminum “Always In Motion” tail carrying the third hook. An enormously significant bait.
