These smoothbore carbines are identified as manufactured in .525 caliber (32 bore). Colt Single Action Army Revolver with 12 Inch Barrel
Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 1022)
An included factory letter indicates that there was no shipping information available for this revolver but that it was manufactured c. 1892. Also includes an October 26, 1998, dated Ron Graham letter discussing the rarity of a factory original 12 inch barrel on a Colt Single Action Army and theorizing that the barrel on this revolver was originally meant for "Buntline" 28815 based on the "8815" number on the barrel under the ejector housing. That revolver was in .44-40 and was shipped on June 18, 1881, to G.B. Johnston with no barrel length listed and was within the 28800-28830 range of known Buntline revolvers. He further theorizes that the barrel was "taken from an assembled, or nearly completed, revolver, which the factory had re-designated the chambering to be .44-40, was finally used to complete a 'special order', standard frame, 12 inch Single Action in 1892!...to learn Single Action 147588, a twelve inch, 'Buntline' barreled, standard frame revolver, assembled during the early 1890s, had survived the rigors of time to become a tremendously important piece of Colt Single Action Army history - this epitomizes the excitement of collecting firearms."
Class: Antique
Good with untouched original mottled gray and brown patina and pitting throughout, replaced ejector housing, and general moderate overall wear including smoothing of the checkering on the grips. Mechanically fine. The later production modern replacement shoulder stock is very good with filled areas at the heel and toe and mounting wear. Overall, a truly fascinate antique Colt Single Action Army with the extremely rare long "Buntline" barrel.

Long Flute Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver
Lot # 13 (Sale Order: 13 of 1022)
Colt Single Action Army revolvers with the double action long flute cylinders are rare as Colt only assembled 1,478 total in 1913-1915 utilizing surplus cylinders from the Model 1878 revolvers per Graham, Kopec, and Moore on page 156 of "A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver". Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, and butt. The factory letter confirms this revolver was in .45 caliber with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, and long flute cylinder when it was sold to H.E. Leslie (address unavailable) and shipped to George Worthington Hardware Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 21, 1914. It was the only gun of this type in the shipment.

Colt Single Action Army Flattop Target Revolver with Pearl Grips

The included factory letter lists this revolver as a "Colt Single Action Flattop Target Revolver" in .32/20 with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, nickel finish, and type of stocks not listed and indicates it was the sole gun of this type in a shipment to John P. Lovell Arms Company in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 6, 1893. Per "The Official Record of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver, 1873-1895", only forty-eight .32-20 caliber Target Model revolvers were manufactured, and only eleven had 7 1/2 inch barrels and nickel finish. The matching serial number is on the frame, trigger guard, and butt. The factory refinish number "212" is on the front of the cylinder, the loading gate arm, the left side of the front strap, and the right side of the back strap. "HN" is marked on the left side of the hammer.
Class: Antique
Very fine as factory refinished with nearly all of the re-plated nickel remaining, minor wear, a few dings and scratches, some pitting under the finish mainly on the cylinder, replacement hammer, and attractive colors on the pearl grips. Mechanically fine.

Volcanic Repeating Arms Company No.2 Lever Action Navy Pistol
Lot # 44 (Sale Order: 44 of 1022)
This Volcanic No. 2 lever action navy pistol was manufactured by the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company c. 1856. The Volcanic Arms Company manufactured an estimated 1,000 No. 2 pistols with 8-inch barrels between July 1855 and April 1857. The pistol has the distinctive .41 caliber octagon barrel with integral 9-shot magazine, brass frame, loading lever with finger hole and flat-base walnut grips. The Type I, full rib, barrel has a rounded T-bar spring, brass cone front sight and small, brass, clam-shell shaped follower. The brass receiver lacks the simple factory scroll engraving found on most Volcanic Repeating Arms Company pistols. The top of the receiver has a small semi-circular cut-out on the front of the ejection port and fixed, dove-tail mounted, rear sight. The bolt has a double hook extractor. The hammer has a hand-knurled spur. The top barrel flat is stamped with the legend: "THE VOLCANIC/REPEATING AMS CO./PATENT NEWHAVEN CONN. FEB. 14. 1854." The serial number is stamped on the right side of the loading lever and left side of the butt beneath the grips. the serial number is also written in pencil on the inside of both grips. The toggle lever action, spring-loaded magazine and integrally primed 'rocket ball' cartridge were significant innovations that paved the way for the successful Henry and Winchester lever action rifles. Oliver Winchester's investment in the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company introduced him to firearms manufacturing and led to the eventual establishment of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
Class: Antique
Fine. The blue finish on the barrel is professionally restored and has faded to a very attractive plum-brown patina. The metal surfaces are smooth with sharp edges and clear Volcanic legend. The receiver is very fine and has a good-looking, untouched patina with tight sideplate joints. Traces of fire blue finish are visible on the rear sight and bolt. The hammer, trigger and lever have been artificially aged to a mottled brown patina. The re-varnished two piece grips are also fine and retain most of the varnish with only light handling wear. This is a solid example of a scarce and historically significant Volcanic Repeating Arms No. 2 Lever Action Navy Pistol.

John Ulrich Signed Factory Engraved Winchester Model 1866 Rifle
Lot # 47 (Sale Order: 47 of 1022)
Manufactured in 1870. This Winchester Model 1866 rifle was factory embellished by renowned Master Engraver John Ulrich. Ulrich has signed his work on the left side of the upper tang: "JU." The receiver features fine engraved floral scrollwork on a dot background. There are blank inscription panels on both side panels. flourishes of scrollwork are featured on the forend cap and buttplate tang. The barrel is fitted with a blade front sight and a fixed notch rear sight and has the two-line address/King's patent dates marking on the top flat ahead of the rear sight. The barrel, magazine tube, hammer, lever, and trigger are all custom chrome plated. The serial number on the lower tang is inside an engraved panel. Mounted on nicely figure smooth walnut straight grip stock and forearm. The left side of the lower tang is marked "39 B OXX." Sling swivels are attached on the underside of the forend cap and buttstock. A similar John Ulrich signed and engraved Model 1866, which is about 1,600 serial numbers before this rifle, is documented in Wilson's "Winchester Engraving" on page 132, and the "J.U." engraved initials are identified as Ulrich's early signature before he used a stamped signature.

Lot # 55 (Sale Order: 55 of 1022)
Manufactured c. 1915-1937, with production reportedly significantly disrupted during World War I while Spanish arms manufacturers cranked out handguns for military contracts by the thousands. These carbines were sold commercially in Spain, with many being utilized by police forces, and many were shipped to South America to satisfy a growing market. The standard Garate Anitua address is on top of the barrel along with the "CAL. 44 L" caliber marking, meaning "44 Largo", the Spanish name for .44-40 W.C.F, with "SPI." stamped below it. The tiger trademark is on the left side of the frame, and the serial number is on the bottom. The three-line model marking is on the upper tang. Colt "Omnipotent" Etched Panel Model 1878 Revolver
Lot # 58 (Sale Order: 58 of 1022)
The Model 1878 was Colt’s first large frame double action revolver and, until recently, has been overshadowed by its legendary cousin, the Single Action Army. In the words of famed SAA expert and author John Kopec, “The Colt Model 1878 Double Action Army revolver has always held a more or less secondary place in the Colt collecting field. That is until now!†In recent years the Model 1878 has become increasingly popular with collectors who are rediscovering its legacy in Colt heritage and in U.S. history in general. Just like the SAA, the Model 1878 shaped American history out on the western frontier. The Model 1878 was used by settlers, lawmen and outlaws during America’s push to the West Coast. Its association with the Wild West alone has made the Model 1878 a very collectible American handgun. The Model 1878 has also found a special place with military collectors. The U.S. Ordnance Department purchased 4,600 Model 1878s known as the Philippine or Alaskan models, which saw action during the Philippine-American War and Moro Rebellion.Offered here is one of less than 200 â€Omnipotent†marked Colt Model 1878 Double Action Revolvers. The story of the Omnipotent marked Model 1878 is retold in Don Wilkerson’s seminal work “Colt’s Double-Action Revolver, Model of 1878,†and Wilkerson referred to these handguns as “among the most sought after revolvers by collectors today†(page 233). These incredibly rare revolvers feature an acid etched “OMNIPOTENT†panel on the left side of the barrel, just as featured on this example, and most “Omnipotent†marked Model 1878s were shipped to B. Kittredge & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. Benjamin Kittredge is extremely important to the Colt legacy. In the 1870s and 1880s, Kittredge dominated the Colt retailer market. He is credited for coming up with at least nine Colt model trade names that included the now legendary names “Peacemaker†for the Single Action Army Revolver and “Lightning†and “Thunderer†for the .38 caliber and .41 caliber Model 1877 respectively. “Omnipotent†was Kittredge’s trade name for the Model 1878, and he had this name etched on the left side of the barrel. A very limited number of these revolvers were shipped to other dealers such as Hartley & Graham. These revolvers came finished in blue or nickel with at least one nickel plated gun having a gold plated cylinder, grips varied from the standard hard rubber to more costly special order material like pearl, a few were even engraved, and in general they had 7 ½ inch barrels and were chambered in .45 caliber. Based on Wilkerson’s reading of the available factory records, “A total of 174 revolvers were shipped to Kittredge between the first Omnipotent marked invoice on August 6, 1878, and the last Omnipotent marked invoice on Mary 13, 1882. The author tends to think all of these revolvers were probably etched with the Omnipotent marking. If we count only those revolvers listed as Omnipotent in the records (the only revolvers that will definitely letter as Omnipotent) we have only 154 revolvers†(page 236). “Omnipotent†is defined by Merriam-Webster as “having complete or unlimited power,†often associated with deities. It is a name that truly fits the Model 1878 in powerful .45 caliber. Unfortunately, the “Omnipotent†trade name did not catch on like Peacemaker did for the SAA. The accompanying factory letter for this first year production, three digit serial number Model 1878 states that it was shipped on August 17, 1878 to B. Kittredge & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish, and type of stocks not listed. This was a five gun shipment. The factory letter goes on to list the serial numbers of the four other guns in the shipment and confirms, "Records also use the word 'Omipotents' in describing the above gun." As stated, the left side of the barrel has the incredibly rare “OMNIPOTENT†acid etched panel. The top of the barrel is stamped with the one-line Hartford address. “45 CAL†is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. The full serial number appears on the butt ahead of the lanyard loop, loading gate, and rear cylinder face with the individual numbers stamped between the chambers. Besides the matching serial number, the rear cylinder face is also stamped with a factory “P†inspection mark.

Long Barrel Single Shot Conversion Sharps Pepperbox Pistol
Lot # 76 (Sale Order: 76 of 1022)
Manufactured c. 1859-1874, this interesting pistol was originally made by C. Sharps & Co. as a Model 1C four-shot pepperbox pistol. Sometime during its period of use, a talented gunsmith converted this pepperbox into a single shot parlor type target pistol through various modifications. These modifications include the extended barrel with fixed blade and notch sights, shim plates on the forward face of the recoil shield, and the typically rotating hammer fixed permanently to strike the .22 RF cartridge placed in the single shot barrel. The butt has been fitted with a full brass cap rather than the typical plate securing the grips. Colt Bisley Sheriff's Model Single Action Army Revolver
Lot # 95 (Sale Order: 95 of 1022)
Here is one you definitely do not come across very often: a Colt Bisley Model with a factory documented 3 1/2 inch barrel and in ejectorless "Sheriff's Model" configuration. As noted on page 142 of the 30th Anniversary Edition of "A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver," "Still rarer than factory engraved Bisleys are the smoothbores and Sheriff's Models... As of this updated revision, there are now nine known original, ejectorless, short barreled Bisley Model revolvers." When the book was first published in 1976, the authors had yet to encounter an original Sheriff’s Model Bisley. They wrote on page 76: "We will now review one of the rarest classifications of the ejectorless single actions, the short barreled Bisley Model…The opportunity to examine an original ejectorless Bisley Model has never been afforded". On page 265 of “The Book of Colt Firearms,†Colt historian and author R.L. Wilson asserted, “Less than a dozen Sheriff’s Models were made†out of a total production of the Bisley Model standing around 44,350. The factory letter confirms the revolver was in .32/20 with a 3 1/2 inch barrel, and blue finish and indicates this revolver was the sole gun of this type in a shipment on August 9, 1899, to well-known firearms dealer E.K. Tryon, Jr. & Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
