RARE STUART ECLIPSE MINNOW

Lot # 1356 (Sale Order: 356 of 680)

Made by William Stuart & Co in Canton, Ohio around 1905. Seldom seen and often misidentified, it’s a special occasion when an Eclipse Minnow comes up for sale. These baits are unique with their aluminum cups and the use of only forward-oriented props, as well as their somewhat primitive finishes and lack of any primer under the paint. The glass eyes in this example have unusually large white irises and there are 3 hand painted gills on either side. Pointed props are unmarked with a remnant of early line still attached at the tie. Two belly weights are stable and still have their paint locked on, and as a whole this bait grades Very Good or better. Item Dimensions: 3 - 5/8" length.

ONE OF VERY FEW KNOWN MUSKY REEL LURES

Lot # 1358 (Sale Order: 358 of 680)

The total population of these non-production, special order baits is reportedly four examples, and its condition is unrivaled. Appearing as it did the day it left the factory with super clean red & black surfaces, and spotless hardware, it measures a full quarter inch more than the ultra-rare Pike-size Reel lure. Of note is the unique cast lead nose weight which is proportional to the lure, and is noticeably larger when compared to the standard size one. A truly remarkable barberpole bait in Excellent Plus condition. Item Dimensions: 3 - 1/4" length

JASPER ACKERMAN MINNOW

Lot # 1359 (Sale Order: 359 of 680)

Ackerman, a native of Monticello, Indiana, developed this curious design so the fisherman could readily convert his five-hook minnow into a three-hook minnow. The top and bottom body sections are sandwiched together, which hold the hook hangers in place. By releasing the top, the fisherman could take one of the sets of hooks and move it to the central pair of grooves, giving the now-three-hooker balance. This example is unpainted, as Ackerman Minnows tend usually to be, and it retains its unique original props and glass bead eyes. Dating to circa 1906, this Excellent condition example will stand out in any collection. Item Dimensions: 3 - 1/4" length.
