ULTRA RARE E. C. ADAMS JERSEY EXPERT IN BOX

Lot # 1454 (Sale Order: 454 of 680)

Patented by Edward Adams of Morristown, NJ on April 9, 1907. This example grades at least Very Good Plus with a couple tiny chips and a little light ageline flaking. Jersey rigged with 3 single hooks and perfect glass eyes. 3 separate propellors, the front two splayed out on a V-shaped armature, and the rear one being larger and with pointed tips. With its incredibly rare 2-piece white pasteboard box, it is believed that only two of these boxes are known in collections. The box grades about Very Good, with the lower part of the label having been removed. There is what appears to be the remnants of an end stamp as well. Easily one of the more historically important pieces in the collection. Item Dimensions: 3 - 1/4" length.

HOSMER’S MECHANICAL FROGGIE IN GREEN

Lot # 1456 (Sale Order: 456 of 680)

Created by J.D. Hosmer of Dearborn, MI around 1936, this bait utilized 6 interconnected body sections to effectively “kick” its way through the water when twitched. Rigged with weedless attachments placed before the single hooks and glass eyes set in forward-facing slots. Reportedly, Hosmer himself painted these by hand, and the collector would be hard-pressed to find a nicer example, this one grading fully Excellent. Item Dimensions: 5 - 1/4" length.

CHARLES R. HARRIS FEATHERBONE SPINNER MINNOW

Lot # 1457 (Sale Order: 457 of 680)

When found, these typically show plenty of evidence of use, so it’s pretty clear this example didn’t see much action. Hand painted hollow quill body riding on a brass wire frame with 2 hand cut & soldered tube props. A mixture of colored glass beads acting as prop bearings and a chunky box swivel attached at the line tie. External belly weight, likely hand cut to achieve a certain weight, and early non-nickel-plated hooks on this c. 1905 beauty. This bait is easily one of the nicest surviving examples and it is one of the few to grade about Excellent. Item Dimensions: 1 - 3/4" length.

VERY EARLY TRIUMPH WOOD MINNOW IN GREENBACK

Lot # 1462 (Sale Order: 462 of 680)

Made by Pflueger of OH for Triumph Mfg Co of St. Louis, MO, this circa 1907 minnow is rigged with the early small-sized Gem Clip side hook hangers, and counter-rotating tube props, the front on marked “PFLUEGER” diagonally. White iris glass eyes, the left one with a hairline in it, 2 sets of HPGM, and a single belly weight with paint still attached. These Triumph boxes did not come with top side labels, only on the one end, this Excellent Minus example being marked “TM2B”. Item Dimensions: 2 - 3/4" length.

As a result, the early unimproved baits are quite scarce. In White with Red, Green, & Black spots, and in Excellent condition, it would be very difficult to ever upgrade this early beauty.
