NO RESERVE - The Sirius Ship from The Adventures Of Tintin

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 26 of 86)

The model is already built, NOT a model ship kit. Handcrafted from the finest woods & metal fittings. The Sirius was a trawler used by Tintin, Captain Haddock and Cuthber...moret Calculus during the treasure expedition searching for the treasure of Red Rackham. It is featured in Red Rackham’s Treasure. The Sirius, was named after the SS Sirius, the first ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean solely under steam power, but was visually based upon the design of the John-O.88, a trawler launched in 1936. It sunk in 1941 after being attached by German fighter planes. Hergé had sketched this ship in Ostend docks before obtaining both detailed plans of the trawler from its builders, Jos Boel & Son, and a small-scale model from a collector. Now you can get this beautiful Sirius ship model for your TinTin collection. Our master craftsmen handcrafted these nicely detailed models from scratch using her photographs, drawings, and original plan. The model is built to scale with top quality wood such as teak, mahogany with hollow superstructure and hull. She is 100% handcrafted individually using plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of the actual ship. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. This Sirius ship model is mounted on a solid wood base and ready to display. Dimension approx.: 26inches (high) x 5inches (wide) x 12inches (high)

NO RESERVE - Admiral Dewey’s Flagship USS Olympia

Lot # 28 (Sale Order: 27 of 86)

The model is already built, NOT a model ship kit. Handcrafted from scratch using finest woods & metal fittings. The USS Olympia, one of the most historic ships of our Nav...morey, sailed into Manila Bay at the head of our Asiatic Squadron, May 1, 1898, seven days after Spain declared war on the United States. Considered the fastest man-of-war afloat and extremely heavily armored, she steamed to within a few hundred yards of the Spanish fleet. Within six hours the most decisive naval battle ever fought was won by the American fleet with casualties of only 30 wounded and one dead. Spain as a world power was doomed. This ship so proved herself in battle and maneuverability that it greatly influenced the future building of our new steel Navy. The Olympia is the last surviving ship of our Spanish American War fleet. During the first World War, the Olympia served as convoy escort and brought back the body of the Unknown Soldier for interment at Arlington National Cemetery. The Olympia is now restored as a National Memorial and docked on the Delaware River at Philadelphia, PA., where it may be inspected by the public. Olympia had a length of 344 ft, a beam of 53 ft, and a gross tonnage of 5,676. The propulsion system consisted of 2 vertical triple-expansion steam engines, enabling the ship to achieve a speed of 21.7 knots. She was able to operate within 6900 miles range with more than 400 crews. Features: Now you can get this beautiful USS Olympia model for your home or office. Our master craftsmen handcraft this model from scratch using plank-on-frame construction method. We built the model to exact scale from finest woods and materials. Thanks to the extensive research of drawings and actual photographs we are able to build the model to the highest possible accuracy. Also, we hand-painted multi-layered colors to match the color of the real ship. Each model requires extensively hundreds of hours to construct and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. The model is mounted on a solid wood base and ready to display. It’ll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast, or passionate collector. Dimension approx. 36inches L x 5inches W x 18inches H

NO RESERVE - PT BOAT 109 BS050

Lot # 29 (Sale Order: 28 of 86)

The model is already built, NOT a model ship kit. PT-109 was a patrol torpedo (PT) boat commanded by Lieutenant John F. Kennedy in World War II. PT-109's keel was laid on...more March 4, 1942 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The boat was fitted out for war with four 21 torpedo tubes carrying Mark VIII torpedoes. Unlike most of her sister boats, PT-109 carried two depth charges, one on each side. Initially intended for possible use against submarines, these depth charges were later used to deter destroyers in pursuit. On April 23, 1943, John F. Kennedy was given command of the PT-109. The crew was given the tough assignment of patrolling the Solomon Islands. The warm water caused rapid growth and buildup of marine life on the hull, reducing boat speed to below 36 knots. This speed was less than the top speed of the Japanese cruiser and destroyers that protected Japanese supply barges which were the main target of PT boats. Very dangerously, the PT boats had to get within two miles of their targets, and mostly at night. That was well within the gun range of enemy ships. The black powder charge that fired the well-greased torpedoes could cause the grease to ignite upon firing, giving out a flash and smoke that could easily reveal the boat's position. On top of that, PT boats used aviation gasoline that could destroy the whole boat if the engine compartment was hit. PT boats relied on their small size, darkness, and maneuverability as their survival tools. On August 1st, PT-109 and 14 other boats were sent to sink a group of five enemy destroyers. The attacking squadron were ready to kill, but some of the 60 torpedoes exploded prematurely and not a single hit was made. All boats then were ordered back to base except PT-109, PT-162, and PT-169. They were to patrol the area. It was a very dark and quiet night on the 2nd of August. PT-109 was going at very low speed with only one engine to minimize the wake which might be detected by Japanese patrol aircraft. Suddenly the crew realized they were right in front of an enemy ship. The destroyer, Amagiri, bore down on PT-109 at a very high speed. With no time to get her engines up to speed, PT-109 was cut in half and in flames. Although well within firing distance, PT-169's torpedoes missed the Amagiri and the PT-162's failed to fire. Seeing the extent of the damage and fireball from PT-109, the other two PT boats returned to base without daring to stay and check for survivors. PT-109 was indeed fatally damaged. Raging flames surrounded the forward hull. Miraculously, only two crew members were killed, and only two others were badly injured. Using timber, life jackets and other parts lashed together, the seamen kicked for hours thru shark infested waters and reached a tiny island 3.5 miles away. They then moved to another island and survived on coconuts. Hiding for six days, and with the help of the local islanders, they were able to send their location information to the nearest base 35 miles away and finally were picked up by PT-157. In May 2002, a National Geographic expedition found wreckage matching the description and location of Kennedy's vessel in the Solomon Islands. However, under current Navy policy, the wreckage site is a gravesite and may not be disturbed. This PT-109 boat model is a representative of that story and the history of PT boats as a whole. The model was built by master craftsmen who handcrafted the nicely detailed model from scratch using photographs, drawings, and original plans. The model is built to scale with top quality woods with a hollow superstructure and hull. The model is 100% handcrafted using a plank-on-frame construction method, similar to the building of the actual vessel. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the manufacturers workshop. This model is mounted on a solid wood base and is ready to proudly display.

NO RESERVE - William G Mather CG041

Lot # 30 (Sale Order: 29 of 86)

The SS William G. Mather is a retired Great Lakes bulk freighter now restored as a museum ship in Cleveland, Ohio, one of five in the Great Lakes region. She transported ...morecargo such as ore, coal, stone, and grain to ports throughout the Great Lakes, and was nicknamed "The Ship That Built Cleveland" because Cleveland's steel mills were a frequent destination. The Mather was built in 1925 by Great Lakes Engineering Works, Ecorse, Michigan, as the flagship for Cleveland-Cliffs and was named in honor of the then-company president, William Gwinn Mather. In early 1941, through the ice-choked Upper Great Lakes, SS William G. Mather led a convoy of 13 freighters to Duluth, Minnesota in order to supply steel for Great Britain during World War II. This sailing set a record for the first arrival in a northern port and the effort was featured in the April 28, 1941 issue of Life. She was one of the first commercial Great Lakes vessels to be equipped with radar in 1946. In 1964, she became the very first American vessel to have an automated boiler system. In 1987, Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. donated the steamer SS William G. Mather to the Great Lakes Historical Society to be restored and preserved as a museum ship and floating maritime museum. After being divested by GLHS, the Harbor Heritage Society of Cleveland formally acquired SS William G. Mather in 1995. Within days of the acquisition, the steamship was dedicated as an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. On June 15, 2003, a 40-year lease was negotiated allowing SS William G. Mather to stay at its East 9th Street berth in Cleveland, Ohio. This scale model of the SS William G. Mather represents the history and longevity of this great vessel. It is 100% hand-built with a plank-on-frame construction method and created from drawings and photographs. This model measures approximately 37.40 L x 4.33 W x 9.44 H. A display base and a brass name plate are included. This is not a kit and is ready for full and proud display.

USS Missouri (BB-63) (Mighty Mo or Big Mo) is a United States Navy Iowa-class battleship, and was the third ship of the U.S. Navy to be named in honor of the US state of Missouri. Missouri was the last battleship built by the United States, and was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended World War II. Missouri was ordered in 1940 and commissioned in June 1944. In the Pacific Theater of World War II she fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and shelled the Japanese home islands, and she fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. She was decommissioned in 1955 into the United States Navy reserve fleets (the Mothball Fleet), but reactivated and modernized in 1984 as part of the 600-ship Navy plan, and provided fire support during Operation Desert Storm in January/February 1991. Missouri received a total of 11 battle stars for service in World War II, Korea, and the Persian Gulf, and was finally decommissioned on 31 March 1992, but remained on the Naval Vessel Register until her name was struck in January 1995. In 1998, she was donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association and became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Dimension approx.: 40inches L x 5inches W x 12.5inches H

NO RESERVE - Texas BS024

Lot # 43 (Sale Order: 42 of 86)

The model is already built, NOT a model ship kit. USS Texas (BB-35), the second ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the U.S. state of Texas, is a New York-cl...moreass battleship. The ship was launched on 18 May 1912 and commissioned on 12 March 1914. Soon after her commissioning, USS Texas saw action in Mexican waters following the Tampico Incident and made numerous sorties into the North Sea during World War I. When the United States formally entered World War II in 1941, Texas escorted war convoys across the Atlantic, and later shelled Axis-held beaches for the North African campaign and the Normandy Landings before being transferred to the Pacific Theater late in 1944 to provide naval gunfire support during the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Texas was decommissioned in 1948, having earned a total of five battle stars for service in World War II, and is now a museum ship near Houston, Texas. Among the world’s remaining battleships, Texas is notable for being the only remaining dreadnought battleship, though she is not the oldest surviving battleship; Mikasa, a pre-dreadnought battleship ordered in 1898, is older than USS Texas. She is also noteworthy for being one of only six remaining ships to have served in both World Wars. Among US-built battleships, USS Texas is notable for her sizable number of firsts: the first US Navy vessel to house a permanently assigned contingent of US Marines, the first US battleship to mount anti-aircraft guns, the first US ship to control gunfire with directors and range-keepers (analog forerunners of today’s computers), the first US battleship to launch an aircraft from a catapult on Turret 3, one of the first to receive the CXAM-1 version of CXAM production radar in the US Navy, the first US battleship to become a permanent museum ship, and the first battleship declared to be a US National Historic Landmark.

NO RESERVE - Bismark BS002

Lot # 44 (Sale Order: 43 of 86)

In the course of the German warship’s short eight month career under its only commanding officer, Capt. Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, ...morein May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of Denmark Strait, Bismarck engaged and destroyed the battlecruiser HMS Hood, the pride of the Royal Navy, and forced the battleship HMS Prince of Wales to retreat with heavy damage. While Bismarck herself was hit three times, and suffered an oil leak from a ruptured tank, she still sailed on. The destruction of HMS Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, while heading for the relative safety of occupied France, Bismarck was attacked by Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one hit was scored that jammed the battleship’s steering gear, rendering her unsteerable. The following morning, Bismarck was destroyed by a pair of British battleships. The cause of her sinking is disputed: some in the Royal Navy claim that torpedoes fired by the cruiser HMS Dorsetshire administered the fatal blow, while German survivors argue that they scuttled the ship. In June 1989, Robert Ballard discovered the wreck. Several other expeditions surveyed the remains seeking to document the ship’s condition and to determine what sank her. This Bismarck Battleship model is 100% hand built from scratch using “plank on frame” construction method. Real brass & metal fittings, rosewood, mahogany, teak and other exotic woods were carefully selected to build the model. Propellers and rudders made from brass. Hollow hull and hollow superstructure. Highly-detailed and multi-layered paint to match color of the real ship. Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for the German Kriegsmarine shortly before World War II. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the primary force behind the German unification in 1871, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched two and a half years later in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Along with her sister ship Tirpitz, Bismarck was the largest battleship ever built by Germany, and one of the largest built by any European power. Dimension approx.: 40"L x 6"W x 12"H Scale: 1/250. The model is already built, NOT a model ship kit.
