Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its original finish. There are some light scratches visible on the side of the barrel and a noticeable scratch on the left grip panel. The case-hardened frame remains vibrant and attractive, and the silver-plated grip frame has a pleasing natural patina. The screw heads are sharp, and all markings remain crisp and clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.

This example, serial number 6401, remains in excellent condition, displaying 97% original finish with only minor imperfections—light scratches on the barrel and a noticeable scratch on the left grip panel. Such imperfections do little to diminish the revolver’s desirability, as it remains visually striking and mechanically sound. Complemented by an authentic accessory set, including a highly desirable Dixon & Sons silver-plated flask and a collectible Navy Arms Co. percussion cap tin, this revolver presents exceptionally well in its elegant lockable wooden case.

For collectors and enthusiasts alike, this Colt 1851 Navy represents a valuable opportunity to own an impressive example of Colt’s acclaimed second-generation revolvers. Serial Number: 24342

Year of Manufacture: 1978

Caliber: .36 Caliber Percussion

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY." The left side of the frame is marked "COLT’S PATENT." The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Naval Battle scene. Standard Colt markings appear throughout, consistent with the 2nd Generation.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass bead integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a notch in the hammer, which aligns with the front bead when cocked.

Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth wood, well-fitted to the frame. They show no evidence of use or wear and remain in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued Barrel & Cylinder, Case Hardened Frame, Brass Grip Frame

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, no pitting is visible. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its original factory finish. The case-hardened frame is vibrant, and the blued barrel and cylinder remain deep and rich. The screw heads are sharp, and the markings remain crisp and clear. The cylinder retains a crisp and well-defined Naval Battle roll engraving with no signs of handling wear. Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver ships with a Wooden display case, Powder Flask, Cap Can, Bullet Mold, and Screwdriver adding to its collectability.

Our Assessment: This Colt 1851 Navy is part of Colt’s 2nd Generation, a faithful reproduction of the legendary Samuel Colt-designed percussion revolver. Manufactured in 1978, this revolver showcases the same craftsmanship and detail found in original 19th-century models, featuring a blued barrel, case-hardened frame, and a beautifully engraved cylinder depicting a Naval Battle scene. The Colt 1851 Navy was one of the most widely used revolvers of the 19th century, favored by soldiers, lawmen, and frontiersmen alike. Though production of the original models ceased in 1873, the 1851 Navy's reputation remains unmatched.

This factory-authorized reproduction by Colt continues the legacy with exceptional craftsmanship and historical accuracy. This particular revolver remains in astonishing condition, showing no evidence of use, making it a highly desirable collector’s piece. This is ironic as it is one of "The Shooter Model", which had a brass grip frame instead of the standard silver-plate. Only 500 of these revolvers were made in 1978. The inclusion of a wooden display case further enhances its value. For Colt collectors, black powder enthusiasts, and those who appreciate classic American firearms, this 1978-manufactured Colt 1851 Navy is a must-have piece that bridges the gap between history and modern craftsmanship. Whether displayed, preserved as an investment, or enjoyed as a historically accurate shooter, this is a fantastic addition to any collection.

Colt Model 1873 Artillery Single Action Army SAA .45 Revolver & Holster, Custer Range, 1874 Antique

Lot # 284 (Sale Order: 284 of 354)

"

Make: Colt

Model: 1873 Cavalry, “Artillery” Configuration

Serial Number: 5993

Year of Manufacture: 1884

Caliber: .45 Colt

Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side Loading Gate Cylinder

Barrel Length: The barrel was cut to 5 1/2” during the conversion process.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch integral to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one piece smooth walnut. The bottom has an ""R.A.C."" inspection mark. The grip has some scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip is in Very Good-plus condition as Antique.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color

Finish Originality: This revolver was likely refinished at the time of conversion. Also common for the “Artillery” conversion was the mixing of parts. The barrel is marked ""5779"", the trigger guard ""3834"" with an ""A"" inspection mark, the cylinder ""6815"" with an ""A"" inspection mark and the backstrap with ""4527"". The backstrap and barrel inspection marks are faint, but both appear to also be an ""A"". The barrel has been altered for the new style of ejector mount.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with well defined rifling. There is scattered light erosion and minor pitting in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 6 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 40% of its current metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is scattered minor surface oxidation. There is infrequent minor surface erosion. The grip areas show handling wear. The frame’s case color has mostly muted. There are scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear including turn-wear on the cylinder. There are tool marks around some screw heads. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. Most markings are clear, some markings are worn and incomplete. Overall, this revolver is in Very Good-plus condition as Antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly during operation. During disassembly, the timing of the hand and bolt require a little movement to remove the cylinder. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a Spanish-American War altered Rock Island Arsenal M1881 holster, converted for use with the shorter-barreled revolvers.

Our Assessment: This revolver started out life in 1884 as a Cavalry Model SAA revolver with 7 1/2” barrel made for the U.S. Army. In their book “Colt Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers”, Kopec and Fenn indicate that between 1900 and 1903, Colt altered and refinished 5,444 revolvers into “Artillery” models (5 1/2” barrel). Per Kopec and Fenn, “A single Artillery revolver often will have parts from three or four different Cavalry revolvers”. The “Artillery” moniker is a collector’s term, as the modified revolvers were most notable for their issue to U.S. Artillery units in the Spanish-American war, however the later 1900-1903 altered revolvers saw mixed serial numbered parts and some have been observed with blued frames rather than case-colored as they were rather urgently needed for the Philippine Insurrection.

We believe that this is one of those 5,444 revolvers converted by Colt into an Artillery model for use in the Philippines. The frame has some case color, indicating it did not receive the Arsenal Blue finish which was typically applied when these revolvers were altered or refurbished at Springfield Armory. While the parts are mixed, it is interesting that all of the inspected parts are from the Ainsworth period, just the first 15,000 serial numbers. In fact, parts are also present from the highly collected “Custer Range”. The revolver is in Very Good-plus condition with 40% of its current finish remaining. The action functions properly during operation, but the timing of the hand and bolt require a little movement to remove the cylinder. This revolver may have seen service during the Indian Wars when it was in its original Cavalry configuration and may have served again later in the Philippines after being converted to an Artillery model. This revolver must have a very interesting history, if only it could be told. All of the Colt 1st Generation revolvers are heavily collected, and this Cavalry Model conversion to Artillery Model will not be an exception, especially with a rare, properly altered M1881 holster. Please see our photos and good luck!

Apart from markings and chambering, the 'Frontier Six Shooter' is the same as any other Single Action Army, but they are specifically chambered for the .44-40 WCF cartridge, making an ideal companion revolver for a Winchester lever action rifle chambered for the same cartridge. Any 1st Generation SAA would make a great addition to a Colt collection, and this early 20th Century example with original nickel finish should be no exception. Please see our photos and good luck!

Colt First Generation Single Action Army 4 ¾” Gen 1 SAA Revolver .41 Colt w/ Pearl Antique 1898

Lot # 287 (Sale Order: 287 of 354)

Make: Colt

Model: Single Action Army

Serial Number: 179571

Year of Manufacture: 1898

Caliber: .41 Colt

Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side Loading Gate Cylinder

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “41 COLT”. The left side of the frame is marked with the two-line patent date. The bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and butt are marked with the serial number "179571". All markings remain clear and visible.

Barrel Length: 4 ¾”

Sights / Optics: The revolver features a standard blade front sight and a rear sight formed by a notch in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The revolver is fitted with two-piece genuine pearl grips. Both grip panels exhibit tiny cracks near the butt and additional small cracks near the upper sections, particularly where the grip panels meet the frame. The grips remain attractive, showing honest age and wear consistent with careful use and handling.

Type of Finish: Originally blued and case colored. (Renickeled, now mostly lost)

Finish Originality: Refinished (previously renickeled, currently worn away)

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, and rifling is clearly defined. There is some scattered minor erosion in the bore along with stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: The revolver’s finish is now mostly a uniform brown patina, with traces of nickel remaining on the cylinder and small protected areas. The muzzle is worn white from handling, as is the tip of the trigger and parts of the trigger guard. Surface patina and handling wear are consistent throughout, highlighting authentic age and use.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lock-up shows minor play, which is common in revolvers of this era. Trigger pull and hammer function remain crisp. As with all antique firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None included.

Our Assessment: This Colt Single Action Army, produced in 1898, is a classic antique revolver chambered in the less common but highly collectible .41 Colt cartridge. The firearm, originally Blued and case colored and subsequently renickeled, has since seen most of this finish worn away to a character-rich, brown patina, complemented by genuine pearl grips with age-related cracking. These authentic marks of use and age add genuine charm and history, making it an attractive piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Despite its cosmetic wear, this revolver retains clear factory markings and solid mechanical functionality. Revolvers from this era—especially those chambered in .41 Colt—are highly sought after due to their rarity, historical significance, and strong association with the late 19th-century American West.

Whether destined for display, collection, or careful shooting, this Single Action Army represents a genuine and appealing piece of Colt heritage.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is perhaps the quintessential old west handgun, produced for more than a century, serving the U.S. Army as its sidearm from 1873 into the first world war and captivating audiences on the silver screen. The SAA was discontinued by Colt as it tooled up to provide for the WWII war effort, and it was thought by Colt that the design was obsolete, swing-out cylinder revolvers had been around for half a century and autoloaders were gaining in popularity. Then, with the advent of television and western programs such as Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, The Cisco Kid, and The Gene Autry Show, American interest in the guns that won the west was reborn. In 1956, Colt reintroduced the Single Action Army, this new production run now referred to as the 2nd Generation SAA's. This example was produced in 1970 and has a desirable nickel finish, a 5 1/2" barrel and is chambered in the original .45 Colt cartridge. The revolver is in Excellent condition, appearing to have seen little if any use since leaving the factory. Our Assessment: The expiration of Smith & Wesson's patent on the bored-through cylinder in 1869 led Colt to design the revolutionary M-1873 Single Action Army, which soon earned the monikers "Peacemaker" and "gun that won the West". Carried by soldiers, cowboys, ranchers, rustlers, lawmen and outlaws alike, the Colt SAA quickly became synonymous with the untamed wilds of the American West. Manufactured from 1873-1941, the Single Action Army was discontinued by Colt as they tooled up to provide for the war effort in WW2. Colt also believed that the design was obsolete, as swing-out cylinder revolvers had been around for half a century, and autoloaders were gaining in popularity. The SAA most likely would have never been made again if not for the "cowboy craze" of the 1950s. Demand for Colt SAAs skyrocketed, and led Colt to reintroduce this American classic in 1956, birthing the 2nd Generation Colt Single Action Army.

This Colt 2nd Gen SAA was made in early 1959 and is in about Fine Condition. It features a 5 1/2" barrel, 95% of its original factory blue and case color finish, classic two-piece checkered grips, matching serial and assembly numbers, strong mechanics, a bright bore with sharp rifling and no erosion. It comes with a Colt Archives factory letter confirming its configuration, and indicating it was shipped March 4, 1959 to Misko Sport Shop in Ord, Nebraska as the only gun of its type in

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. The finish is lightly thinning at some edges and corners. Most of the balance is in light turn wear on the cylinder. There are a few other minor marks. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine-plus Condition.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a hinge-lid black cardboard box with matching end label, green interior, serial number hand-written on the bottom, manual, "Handling the Handgun" pamphlet and warranty card.

This Colt 2nd Gen SAA was made in late 1958 and is in Fine-plus Condition. It features a 7 1/2" barrel, 97% of its original factory blue and case color finish, classic two-piece checkered grips, matching serial and assembly numbers, strong mechanics, a bright bore with sharp rifling and no erosion. It comes with its original box. This would make a great addition to a Colt collection as an early 2nd Gen SAA.

Colt Custom Shop 3rd Gen Single Action Army SAA Full Royal Blue 4 3/4" .45 Revolver & Box, 1992

Lot # 300 (Sale Order: 300 of 354)

Make: Colt Custom Shop

Model: Single Action Army, P1840Z

Serial Number: SA95639

Year of Manufacture: 1992

Caliber: .45 Colt

Action Type: Single Action Side-Loading Gate Revolver

Barrel Length: 4 3/4"

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a "one-piece" stag (actually two panels adhered to a center wood piece) with gold-colored Colt medallions. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Full Royal Blue

Finish Originality: Original, matching numbered parts.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, there is a little bit of leading in the forcing cone. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9+ out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are a few nicks and short scratches, mostly on the barrel and butt. The action shows faint operational wear. The barrel is indexed about 3-5 degrees to the right, the barrel address is in-line with the front sight, but is just slightly off top-center. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good condition and would easily rate Fine wih the barrel properly indexed.

Mechanics: The action functiona correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a two-piece blue cardboard Colt box with white sleeve, serial-matching label and factory paperwork including manual.

Our Assessment: In 1974, Colt quietly discontinued production of the single Action Army for the second time. Luckily, the loyal fans of the SAA would not need to wait long as colt would bring back the SAA in 1976 as the "3rd Generation". Changes were made but the basic SAA was the same, i.e. three standard barrel lengths of 4 3/4", 5 1/2" and 7 1/2", finishes of full nickel or blue with color case hardened frame, and grips of hard rubber.

Some changes were incorporated in an effort by Colt to keep prices down. One new change was a pressed-in cylinder pin bushing instead of the removable ones used in 1st and 2nd Generation cylinders. Also, the ratchet at the rear of the cylinders was re-shaped, which also necessitated a different shape on the rotating hand. And for some unknown reason, the pitch of the barrel's threads was changed from the 20 threads per inch (TPI) as used on 1st and 2nd Generation SAAs to 24 TPI for these new ones. Toward the end of 2nd Generation production Colt had begun using some investment cast parts, but the frames continued to be forged. The introductory caliber for 3rd Generation SAAs was .45 Colt, but .357 Magnum came along by the end of 1976 and a host of other chamberings would follow.

Everyone should have a Colt Single Action Army, and this would be a beauty to add to any collection. Manufactured in 1992, this revolver was produced by the Colt Custom Shop. Chambered for .45 Colt with a 4 3/4" barrel, it has a full Royal Blue finish rather than the standard Blue & Case Color. It has been equipped with an attractive set of stag grips, giving it a very distinctive appearance. The barrel is indexed about 3-5 degrees off, but the mechanics are otherwise spot-on. This will make a neat add
