Tiger Maple Half-Stock Single Shot Percussion Rifle, #NVSN, .45 cal., 34" heavy octagon barrel

Lot # 26 (Sale Order: 26 of 637)

Tiger Maple Half-Stock Single Shot Percussion Rifle, #NVSN, .45 cal., 34" heavy octagon barrel, brown and color case hardened finish, smooth tiger maple one-piece straigh...moret grip stock with brass hardware, double set triggers, lightly engraved lockplate with game bird and hammer, full-length hardwood ramrod, dovetailed brass tipped blade front sight, fixed "V"-notch rear sight, with shallow stylized cheekpiece. There are no visible markings. Rifle is in very good overall condition with the barrel toning to a dark brown patina with surface erosion and edge wear. There are mars, light pitting, and corrosion at the action due to firing and powder residue. Lock shows old silvered color case hardened finish with light scroll engraving and a game bird. Stock is in very good condition displaying attractive tiger maple striped figure and a pewter nose cap, with light indentations. Brass hardware includes a stylized extended finger rest trigger guard, pineapple finial oval patchbox, and smooth extended buttplate. Additionally, there is a blank German silver escutcheon plate on the left side above the cheekpiece. Mechanically, the action is not working with the hammer failing to hold at full or half-cock. Further, the double set triggers need adjustment. Bore is good with well-defined rifling. This is a nice representative half-stock with beautiful tiger maple figure. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)

Rare Period Conversion of Colt 1849 Pocket Model Revolver with Gustave Young Style Deluxe Engraving

Lot # 47 (Sale Order: 47 of 637)

Rare Period Conversion of Colt 1849 Pocket Model Revolver with Gustave Young Style Deluxe Engraving, #107791, .32 CF cal., 4" octagon barrel, nickel finish, smooth walnut...more two-piece grips, unfluted 5-shot cylinder, pin front and V-notch hammer sights. With all matching visible serial numbers, including the wedge. Factory markings are clear with "Sam'l Colt" in script on the barrel and hand cut "COLT'S PATENT" on left side of frame. Mfg'd 1855. Converted to center fire by the addition of a forged recoil plate and shortening of the original cylinder. It must be disassembled to load with no provision for a loading gate. Likely done by a frontier gunsmith or blacksmith. Revolver is in near fine overall condition, retaining approx. 75%-80% nickel finish, re-nickeled and the cylinder scene removed at the time of the conversion, now showing light pitting and erosion where the nickel has lifted. The deluxe Gustave Young style engraving is soft with a dog's head icon just ahead of the wedge and on the hammer. Grips are fine with considerable original finish and minor marks. Action functions well and holds at full and half cock. Bore is fair with moderate to heavy erosion. This revolver is an interesting and unusual frontier conversion, as 1849 Pocket conversions are uncommon in general, with most being the Thuer style. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
