NAVAL ACE OF ACES DAVID MCCAMPBELL SIGNED PAINTING

Lot # 7327 (Sale Order: 327 of 558)

Painting of the F6F-5 Minsi III, piloted by David McCampbell, downing a Mitsubishi Zero. The painting has a cut signature from McCampbell, and next to that a set of pilot wings are pinned to the canvas. On back of painting is a note reading, "Cdr. David McCampbell Top Navy ace with 34 victories - Medal of Honor - U.S.S. Essex 1944. Cdr Eagle insignia actually worn by him. Proof available." This proof would have been available through a prior gallery that owned this painting, not the present auction house, so the claim of McCampbell ownership of the wings cannot be verified. Painted by Ray Waddey, signed. 24.1 X 18 inches. Very good, original condition.
