This gun was produced between April through June of 1885 and is in correct serial number range for a cadet rifle. Walnut stock with visible but illegible cartouche and cursive "P" at base. The butt plate has no trapdoor. Block is stamped "US MODEL 1873". Left side barrel breech has the VP eagle head stamp. Rear 1879 sight stamped with "R". "US SPRINGFIELD" with eagle on lock. Features two bands, metal rod, and front swivel only. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains the majority of blue with some thinning. Block colors have patterned out. Stock is excellent with minor abrasions. Bore is well defined with minor abrasion. There is a rack number 49 at butt. A sharp cadet rifle. The left side of stock has a legible "ESA" cartouche for Erskine Allen. The buttplate has a large US stamp. Features two bands, swivels, folding ladder rear sight, and a metal rod. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel is clean with some oxidation. Balance of metal is smooth patina. Legends are sharp. The walnut stock is solid with scattered dings and impressions. The lock is standard "US SPRINGFIELD" with eagle. The butt plate has no trapdoor. This is a two band with full length walnut stock, a Buffington rear sight, swivels, and the metal rod. The lock is dated 1863 while block is dated 1870 with eagle head. CONDITION: Fine. The frame, lock and hammer are a soft freckled patina. Barrel and bands are bright. (A) FRENCH 1874/M80 MLE BOLT ACTION CAVALRY RIFLE.

This is the M80 factory update of the old 1874 Fusil Gras. This is an example of the shorter carbine version issued to cavalry units, which features brass barrel bands, trigger guard and butt plate with swivels. Military type rear sight, post front sight, metal cleaning rod, right side bayonet lug, and one piece walnut stock. The frame bears both the 1874 and M80 legend. Stock has matching serial number stamped on left side. This example is dated 1881 on right side of barrel. Bolt has mixed non matching numbers. Butt pate has unit stamp. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel is brown. Brass is nicely toned. Frame retains majority of blue blending patina. Stock shows numerous dings. Bore is strong and bright with minor residue. This is the M80 factory update of the old 1874 Fusil Gras. This is an example of the shorter carbine version issued to cavalry units, which features brass barrel bands, t...morerigger guard and butt plate with swivels. Military type rear sight, post front sight, metal cleaning rod, right side bayonet lug, and one piece walnut stock. The frame bears both the 1874 and M80 legend. Stock has matching serial number stamped on left side. This example is dated 1881 on right side of barrel. Bolt has mixed non matching numbers. Butt pate has unit stamp. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel is brown. Brass is nicely toned. Frame retains majority of blue blending patina. Stock shows numerous dings. Bore is strong and bright with minor residue. Manufactured in 1883. Standard round barrel and full tube, dovetailed front sight, and walnut stock with trap door and matching forearm. Flattop rear sight is a replacement and dust cover is missing. CONDITION: Good. Frame has been cleaned to white with scattered freckling. Barrel breech top has been milled flat to rear sight. Barrel and tube are soft patina. Winchester barrel legend is sharp. Wood is shy to metal, somewhat ill fitting with numerous scattered dings and a chip on right side of forearm. Bore is dark with abrasions.
