Manufactured in 1892. The octagon barrel and tube have been shortened. Features a dovetailed front sight, a semi buckhorn rear sight, a modern replacement dust cover, and a walnut stock with rifle buttplate and matching forearm. CONDITION: Besides the rifle being cut down, rifle is good, no original finish, wood is shy to metal, missing lower tang bolt. Bore is well defined with abrasions. (A): Rifled octagon barrel stamped "H. DERINGER/PHILADA" on top flat. Unmarked percussion lock. Plain walnut halfstock with shaped pewter nosecap. Brass furniture. CONDITION: Barrel and lock retain a heavy brown patina with light pitting throughout. Lock strong and functions well, nipple modern. Stock shows scattered dents and marks from use, no ramrod. (B): Signed octagon barrel with holes drilled towards muzzle on top three flats. Unmarked percussion lock. Brass furniture, no ramrod. Maple stock of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania form. CONDITION: Barrel tang and bolster absent. Barrel tied on with string. Stock shows many areas of losses to finish. No ramrod. (C): Two-stage barrel with brass bead at muzzle. Back-action percussion lock. Brass triggerguard, iron buttplate, pewter endcap. Walnut stock. CONDITION: Barrel retains a freckled brown surface. Lock grey and functional. All legends are legible. Stock shows no visible cartouche, has some oil darkening at buttplate and scattered light dings and impressions. Working order. Bore is sharp with minor residue. This carbine has a sharp "SWP 1889" cartouche on left side with script P at base of wrist. The block is dated 1884. Features the saddle ring and bar, Buffington rear sight, single barrel band, hooded front sight, US marked blue butt plate with trap, and serrated trigger. Block and tang are case color while lock, hammer, and barrel are blued. Barrel has the "VP / (eagle head)" proofs. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains about 85% bright blue with some patina bleeding through. Lock and hammer are sharp with majority of blue. At least 85% color remains. The stock is superb with a few minor dings and impressions. Even the trigger guard, barrel band and spring retain the majority of their factory blue. The bore is bright. This is a crisp carbine. Has correct 900 year rear sight, walnut stock with strong inspector cartouche stamps on left side, one of which is "ESA", the inventor, while the other is "TBH" for Thomas Hawks. The lock is dated 1863 while block is dated 1869 with eagle head. CONDITION: Fine. The frame, block and hammer are a soft and thinning blue patina. Barrel and bands are bright but have oxidized. Stock is solid with scattered dings and abrasions. Bore is bright with minor abrasion. A really sharp example. All metal is a smooth homogenous patina with no remaining original finish. The letters "EP" are carved on right side. Stock is solid with usual dings and darkening.
