Triple Fusee Elegant Skeleton Clock

Lot # 121 (Sale Order: 99 of 252)

This astounding Victorian skeleton clock is a stellar example of the best in clock making. Estimate $4,000 - $6,000. This brass three-train timepiece boasts intricately crafted design. There are eight ax shaped hammers for the corresponding top mounted bells. Set upon a velvet-covered walnut plinth beneath a protective glass dome (there is a significant piece missing from the dome). Skeleton clocks are fascinating examples of the clock makers art popularized in France in the mid 1700's and whose popularity spread to England in the 1800's. These clocks show off the clockmaker skill and whimsy with the frames often taking architectural forms as shown on this piece. This clock is not now working but appears to be complete. This is a large piece, the height of the clock is 17" and the height including the dome is 23"....more
