ASTONISHINGLY RARE AND HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT ORIGINAL STEIFF ROD BEAR WITH ELEPHANT BUTTON.

Lot # 3008 (Sale Order: 9 of 686)

Where it all began-almost. The oldest Steiff teddy bear design as we know it in existence today. This utterly remarkable blond mohair bear is rod jointed, the second type of jointing Steiff experimented with at the very early turn of the last century. Bears with rod jointing were only produced for a small number of years and very few remain today. This bear is made from blond mohair, is 5-ways jointed, and has felt paw pads. He originally would have had five black claw stitches on each paw; he is missing a few stitches on his left hand paw. Teddy's body is very solidly stuffed. His early and lovely face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes, a shaved muzzle, a black hand-formed gutta percha nose, and a light brown mouth. And the piece de resistance, teddy has his original elephant button in his ear, perhaps the most desirable Steiff ID in the world. SIZE: Overall 15" t (38cm). Sitting 10-1/2" t (26cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Paw pad repairs on hands, a few small holes and divots in foot pads. You can see the red underlying felt lining on the right foot paw pad. General light playwear. For a bear of this age and importance, it doesn't get much better than this. 1-13811

STUNNING & EXTREMELY DESIRABLE STEIFF YELLOW TEDDY BEAR FROM 1925 WITH BUTTON.

Lot # 3009 (Sale Order: 10 of 686)

This amazing and truly beautiful teddy bear design was produced because Richard Steiff, in a letter from America, insisted that Steiff bears, which had not changed significantly in design since their introduction at the turn of the last century, become more soft, colorful and warm, reflecting the culture of the time. This charming bear is made from very long, soft and curly slightly faded yellow mohair and is jointed 5-ways. Teddy has tan felt paw pads with four hand-embroidered claws on each. The distinctly youthful and feminine face is detailed with oversized brown and black glass pupil eyes, hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and a slightly shorter mohair muzzle. She retains her long trailing "F" Steiff button. This bear was also produced in pink mohair; overall from 1925-1930, 5271 yellow and 4794 pink examples were produced. SIZE: Overall 20" t (50cm). Sitting 12-1/2" t (30cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Tiny hole in right paw pad, very minor thinning. Otherwise very good to excellent. 1-13766

1940s ERA STEIFF MOHAIR BEAR WITH BUTTON AND UNUSUAL LINEN PAW PADS.

Lot # 3022 (Sale Order: 23 of 686)

Teddy is 5-ways jointed and made from vibrant yellow mohair. Teddy has five hand-embroidered black claws on each paw. His pensive and thoughtful face is detailed with brown and black pupil eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. Ted retains his short trailing "F" button and traces of his yellow ear tag as his Steiff IDs.
