Rare London Shipped Cogswell & Harrison Marked Colt Single Action Army 1st Generation Single Action Revolver with Factory Letter, #121706, .44-40 cal., 7.5" barrel, nickel finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece eagle grips, blade front sight, fixed "U"-notched rear sight, with studs for shoulder stock. All-matching visible serial numbers. Mfg'd 1887. Revolver is in fine to near excellent overall condition, retaining most of the flaking nickel finish, with scattered scratches and a few spots of flaking finish along the barrel. Cylinder shows minor leading edge wear with a faint index line at the rear. Nitre blue screw heads are near excellent. Trigger guard is marked ".44" on the left side, shows a freckling of corrosion, and the front strap displays thinning nickel finish drifting to brown patina. Factory lettering is clear. Top strap is marked "COGSWELL & HARRISON. / 226. STRAND. LONDON.", with English proofs on the cylinder. Grips are near excellent with fine checkering detail, sharp Rampant Colt, and eagle emblems. Action functions well with very good timing. Bore is fine with well-defined rifling. The Colt factory letter confirms all features including factory nickel finish and indicates that it was shipped to the Colt London Agency, London, England on September 8, 1887, in a shipment of 25 guns. Includes photos from an older publication showing the revolver in an English case, attributed to the famous Mel Guy Collection. Attributed to the famous Ray Vanyek Collection, to whom the factory letter is addressed. This is an outstanding and scarce SAA that deserves further research. Est.: $15,000-$20,000. (Antique)
