Our Assessment: This stainless Ruger P89, manufactured in 1995, is a rugged, full-size semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger, offering a robust DA/SA action, decocker safety, and a reputation for near-indestructible reliability. Built during Ruger’s golden era of metal-framed handguns, the P89 combines a stainless slide and aluminum alloy frame with ergonomic polymer grip panels and a no-nonsense design. This example is enhanced by the inclusion of both the original 4 3/8" barrel and a 5 3/8" ported stainless barrel, providing flexibility for different shooting preferences—be it standard carry, recreational range use, or soft-recoiling target shooting with the extended ported option. This pistol retains approximately 98% of its original finish and remains in Very Good to Excellent condition. The bore on the installed barrel is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. The spare 5 3/8” ported barrel is also in Very Good condition with a clean, strong bore. The grip panels show minor handling marks, but the serrations remain sharp. Mechanically, the pistol functions properly with a smooth double-action trigger pull and crisp single-action break. The decocker safety is functional, and the action locks up tightly. The pistol is accompanied by a Ruger hard case, mag loader, and a total of five magazines—two 15-rounders and three 10-rounders—offering a complete and ready-to-run setup.
Whether you're a fan of classic Ruger designs, a practical shooter looking for a reliable workhorse, or a collector seeking a lightly used P89 with rare extras, this package delivers outstanding value. The ported barrel adds a unique performance element, while the robust build quality and generous accessories make it a versatile platform. In a market where metal-framed pistols are increasingly rare, this P89 stands out as a durable, accurate, and complete example of Ruger’s commitment to strength and simplicity.
