" 'I always felt embarrassed by the whole goddamn thing,' he said, 'but I had to do it.' "[3] Fasanel...more

Large Manon Elder CROSSROADS Motorcycle Art Canvas

        Lot # 10126 (Sale Order: 27 of 293)

This handsome and collectible limited edition motorcylce art print is by well-known artist Manon Elder:

        • "Crossroads"
        • Giclée on canvas
        • 26 × 58
        • Limited edition of 200
        • Signed by the artist
        • Excellent condition; never mounted, matted or framed
        • Certificate of Authenticity
This biographical information is from the artist's web site:
Manon Elder's initial travels into motorcycle art started in 2001 when the subject of a portrait sitting asked to be painted on his Harley. She obliged and was surprised by her attraction to painting chrome surfaces and mechanical intricacies. Intrigued by the relationship between motorcycle and the rider, Elder — a portrait painter for 15 years before that — saw the glimmerings of a new path open up. She found that the motorcycle culture resonated with her own desire to experience new adventures in new locations.
"In 2003, Elder had a chance to pursue this new inspiration and did so with an enthusiastic vengeance. She has immersed herself in understanding the essence of the riding experience: the relationships between the bikes, the riders and the landscapes they travel through.
"Before a photo is taken or a brush dipped in paint, Elder gets to know the riders and their bikes. She focuses on capturing the energy of the moment as well as the multitude of details that must be accurately rendered on canvas. While paintings are in progress, many of her motorcycle-rider subjects offer her guidance to ensure the authenticity of their bike's structure. Attention to detail is a hallmark of her work."
An exciting addition to any collection or décor!

American artist David Salle (b.1952) first caught the attention of the art world in the early 1980s through his randomly constructed paintings employing thick application of paint along with various images. Salle states: "When people started paying attention to my work, it seemed so unlikely that somehow it wasn't so remarkable. I made my work for a small audience of friends, other artists mostly, and that has not really changed. At the same time, having shows is a way of seeing if the work resonates with anyone else."

          M. Watanabe LE Art Mezzotint TWO BODIES Sensual Nude

          Lot # 10136 (Sale Order: 37 of 293)

"I am absolutely convinced that at the heart of all things existing in this world, there is something very simple and pure which goes beyond the complexity of appearances," says the artist Mikio Watanabe. This conviction, perhaps, is what makes Watanabe's mezzotints of the naked female form so mesmerizing: Title: "Duetto III" ("Two Bodies III") 1994 Mezzotint on Rives de Lin Moulin du Gue paper; all four edges softly deckled Numbered from a limited edition of 90, plus XXX Roman Signed in pencil in the margin LR Sheet: 15 × 22 Image: 5½ × 12½ Very good condition; LR corner lightly creased; readily matted out Certificate of Authenticity Watanabe creates a mezzotint by repeatedly pressing a curved, serrated mezzotint rocker over the surface of a copper plate until has received many thousands of tiny indentations from this tool. This procedure is extremely time-consuming — most of the plates take 70 - 80 hours to produce — but plates made this way yield velvety blacks that can be obtained no other way. After the entire surface of the plate has been roughened, scraper and burnishers are used to raise tones of gray and white. "During the slow process of engraving, as I scrape the burrs that I have incised on the copper plate and then polish it, the sensitivity which lies inside me can be revealed. Giving shape and light to what was before absolute darkness, I try to feel this universe of purity which exists deep inside the human body," says the artist. Mikio Watanabe (Japan, b. 1954) completed his studies in Tokyo in 1977 and settled in Paris, where he learned engraving techniques at the Atelier 17. Since 1981, Mikio Watanabe has focused on mezzotint and his works can be found in many p...more

Chuck Close often shoots faces, so it's interesting here that he chose to focus on the torsos, making this portrait a rather different one for him, but still with his signature impact.

Chuck Close (1940- ) is widely known for his Photo-Realism in the Pop Art style. His early inspiration was a painter, Jackson Pollock, who inspired his own painting. His art training included a B.F.A. and M.F.A. degree with highest honors from Yale University, as well as a Fulbright Scholarship. His subjects for photographs often included people he knew, and he depicted everything with stark realism. His work has appeared in numerous exhibitions around the world, and can be found in many public and private collections. Bernard was a pioneer in the development of this technique. Emile Bernard (France, 1868-1941) painter and writer on art, is closely linked with most of the major art movements of his time, most notably Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Art Nouveau and the previously mentioned Cloissonism. He seemed to know everyone, including Toulouse-Lautrec, Louis Anquentin (with whom he developed Cloisonnism) and Paul Gaughin, with whom he worked closely in Paris and Pont-Aven, and conducted a voluminous and fascinating correspondence with Van Gogh, publi...more

HUGE Agam FESTIVAL Signed Op Art Serigraph Print LE

          Lot # 10183 (Sale Order: 83 of 293)

This is a signed, numbered limited edition print by well-known contemporary artist Yaacov Agam. It is representative of his style, which fits into the category of "Op Art." The art movement was developed in the mid-1960s, when a number of artists became concerned with using painting as a vehicle for conveying optical illusions. His works are referred to as "Agamographs," which are dynamic, complicated, and intended to trick the eye. "Festival" takes the eye on six spiral journeys, which may represent infinite space and time. The vertical stripes in the spirals counteract the curved, circular edges. One of the spirals is a miniature version of "Infinity," another Agam print. Clean lines, sprinkled with vivid color, and stark contrasts make this a classic that you will cherish for years to come. Artist: Yaacov Agam Title: "Festival" Medium: Serigraph 31" wide × 46 ½ inches high Signed in pencil Number 22 of 45 Condition: Very good. Some cracks in the paint of the top-right spiral; half inch tear on the edge to the right of the top right spiral; Image is bright and fresh; never mounted, matted or framed. Certificate of Authenticity issued by Midwest Estate Buyers The work of Yaacov Agam, (b. 1928), emphasizes changing forms, brilliant color, movement and active engagement of the viewer; by simply moving past the piece or changing the viewing the angle, the viewer participates in the experience by creating new perspectives and vistas. Agam, an influential contemporary artist, has sold his work to numerous collectors and major museums. This is a bright, vivid, eye-catching piece that would look great in any home or office....more

Malcolm Morley Miami Silver Stone Litho

          Lot # 11301 (Sale Order: 88 of 293)

From the Arles/Miami Portfolio of 5 lithographs published in 1973. These were the first original, hand drawn prints ever created by Morley and, as such, are important for any serious collection. This image was printed in a rainbow of colors on a silver background. 24x34 on Arches paper. Signed in pencil by the artist and dedicated to the Director of the Atelier aside from the edition of 150. Subject matter is a fold-out picture postcard of Miami. "This very unique print was made by printing it in 20 colors using 5 stones with 4 colors each. As a result of scrupulous matching, the image shifts color in narrow ripples from crimson to purple to green to dark blue to peacock blue to yellow and so on. The linear outline is dissolved by the elusive definition and by the rhythmic repetition of color." Lawrence Alloway. The photo cannot show the true beauty of this print because of the reflections off the silver background. It is printed clearly with beautiful color on the silver. Domestic Shipping-$20. Bracha Guy Terrace Table Signed Oil on Canvas

          Lot # 11304 (Sale Order: 91 of 293)

A large 32x40 signed oil on canvas by one of Israels most popular contemporary artists. Circa 1990. Unframed canvas. Domestic shipping $30. International depends upon location. Bracha Guy is an artist whose creative impulse is rarely at rest. She is continually seeking new means of expression and unusual contextual combinations and forms. Throughout her work, certain characteristics and motifs recur: a rich palette, ornamentation with a pronounced Eastern nuance, and the figure of a woman. That woman embodies beauty, happiness, sensuality, fertility as well as confidence, calm and control. With strong hues of red, green, turquoise and gold combining ancient and modern cultures, Bracha Guy creates a festive atmosphere, reflecting her optimism about life. The ornateness of her paintings, with their abundant convolutions, generate a warm atmosphere of cushioning and flattering charm. Contemplating her works, the spectator is enthusiastically and movingly drawn into the beauty of the astonishing world mirrored there. Instead of a calculated plan, Guy's works are a release of feeling through color and form. She does not paint from sketches, rather , from the moment she holds a brush in her hand, color takes charge. As the artist herself puts it, "I have a yearning to cover the world with beauty, to create and infuse it with life. Transforming the figure of a woman into a creative work is a kind of dream, an idea or fantasy, like rolling a stone from the top of a mountain and seeing where it goes"....more
