In the mid-1940s, Fasanella began to suffer from intense finger pain caused by arthritis. A union co-worker suggested that he take up painting as a way to exercise his fingers and ease the pain. In 1945, Fasanella persuaded the UE to organize painting classes for its members at a local college. He was one of the first members to sign up for classes. Fasanella became consumed by art, and left labor union organizing to paint full-time. To pay the bills, he pumped gasoline at a service station. Fasanella's painting focused on city life, men and women at work, union meetings, strikes, sit-ins and baseball games. He quickly developed a style which spoke to workers and the poor through the use of familiar details. Fasanella improvised a quasi-surrealist style, depicting interiors and exteriors or past and future simultaneously. He painted canvases as big as 10 feet across because he envisioned his paintings hanging in large union meeting halls. Manon Elder's initial travels into motorcycle art started in 2001 when the subject of a portrait sitting asked to be painted on his Harley. She obliged and was surprised by her attraction to painting chrome surfaces and mechanical intricacies. Intrigued by the relationship between motorcycle and the rider, Elder — a portrait painter for 15 years before that — saw the glimmerings of a new path open up. She found that the motorcycle culture resonated with her own desire to experience new adventures in new locations.
"In 2003, Elder had a chance to pursue this new inspiration and did so with an enthusiastic vengeance. She has immersed herself in understanding the essence of the riding experience: the relationships between the bikes, the riders and the landscapes they travel through.
"Before a photo is taken or a brush dipped in paint, Elder gets to know the riders and their bikes. She focuses on capturing the energy of the moment as well as the multitude of details that must be accurately rendered on canvas. Chuck Close (1940- ) is widely known for his Photo-Realism in the Pop Art style. His early inspiration was a painter, Jackson Pollock, who inspired his own painting. His art training included a B.F.A. and M.F.A. degree with highest honors from Yale University, as well as a Fulbright Scholarship. His subjects for photographs often included people he knew, and he depicted everything with stark realism. His work has appeared in numerous exhibitions around the world, and can be found in many public and private collections. He has influenced generations of photographers, and remains an extremely popular artist to this day.

After the war, he returned to live and work in Paris though he paid frequent visits to the United States, where he taught and published some of his most important etchings. Though a fine abstract painter, he was one of the most important masters and teachers of colored etching of the post-war years. His techniques influenced Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17 and many other of his contemporaries.

During his long life, Friedlaender produced hundreds of etchings and the still incomplete catalogue runs into four volumes.

After courses at the Academy of fine Arts, Zagreb University , Miljenko travelled through Southern and Western Europe, and in 1985 returned to Zagreb to apprentice to Professor Vilim Svecnjak, the Croatian master.
Miljenko's first one-man exhibition at S.E. Feinman Fine Arts Gallery (also in SOHO, N.Y.) was very successful and was followed by equally successful one-man exhibition in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
