Description

Alderfer Auction is honored to present the Medals, Militaria and British Empire collection of Mr. Stanley R. Bright (1933-2021) in a single owner offering. Mr. Bright was a graduate of Rutgers University and served his country in the United States Air Force. He later obtained his law degree from Rutgers Law School and was an active member of the bar in several states.

In addition to being a productive member of the legal community, Mr. Bright was a student of history, a collector of military medals, historical materials, and items related to the British monarchy. His interest in materials related to the British Empire can be traced back to his English born parents. A great portion of his interest in medals and militaria arose from his uncles, who served in the Royal Air Force during World War II.

His collecting passion and scholarly approach enabled Mr. Bright to amass a fine representative collection of British medals, particularly those awarded in World War I for soldier’s service in France, Gallipoli and other European battlefields. The auction will include...

Real photographic postcard of Larkin full length in uniform. 12.) Small certificated for War Service Badge. 13.) Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces discharge for Larkin dated March 2, 1917. 14.) Pair of newspaper clippings related to Larkin and post discharge speaking tour. 15.) Vellum discharge certificate for Larkin dated March 2nd, 1917. Certificate measures 11" x 12.5", had been cut down/trimmed and exhibits taped tears and some edge chips. Robert Larkin was born April 27, 1883 in Hamilton, Ontario and was a musician by trade. British WWI Victory medal impressed named "8888 PTE. P. TYRRELL, R. MUNS. FUS.". Ribbons exhibit some wear slight wear. Grouping accompanied by a bronze Royal Human Society medal engraved named on rim "PRIVATE PATRICK TYRRELL 27TH AUG 1914" with planchet measuring 1.5" in diameter. This medal was awarded to people who have put their own lives at great risk to save or attempt to save someone else. Lot further accompanied by a silver "Services Rendered For King and Empire" pin numbered on reverse "54545" and a brass British wound stripe that would be placed on uniform. Lot accompanied by Award document for his bronze medal issued by the Royal Humane Society dated February 9, 1915. Document measures 13.5" x 10". Vellum discharge certificate for Tyrrell dated January 21, 1916. Certificate measures 12" x 13.5" and exhibits some folds. Private Patrick Tyrrell was a private in the Royal Munster Fusiliers. On August 27, 1914 Private Keane of the regiment was washed from a jetty into a tributary of the Irrawaddy river in Burma. Privates Tyrrell and Heslam jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue Keane but were unable to reach him. American Civil War minute man medal issued by the state of Massachusetts. Medal is impressed named on rim "EDWARD P. THOMPSON, PRVT. G. 6th REG.". Medal exhibits evidence of previous polishing, Edward P. Thompson (1838-1914) was a private in Company G, 6th Massachusetts Infantry and enlisted on April 16, 1861. He mustered out on August 2, 1861. The 6th Massachusetts Infantry was involved in the Baltimore riot of 1861 when the regiment passed thru Baltimore on the way to Washington D.C. . Provenance: Stanley Bright collection.

Three notes issued by the "Military Authority In Tripolitania" (Libya) in 1943. Notes are 2s/6p, 5 lire, and 10 lire. (VF). 8.) British West African 10 Shillings Banknote January 4,.1937 (VG). Balance on notes include ones from Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad, Bahamas, Falklands, Barbados British Guiana, South Africa, Belize, Egypt and date from the 1940's thru 1970's. (good thru XF).
