Renato Gamba Oxford Model 90 Sideplate Double Ejectorgun

Lot # 1216 (Sale Order: 217 of 888)

serial #21535, 12 ga., 27 1/2'' barrels choked a tight modified and a light full with bright excellent bores. The barrels retain about 98-99% original blue showing only the very lightest muzzle wear. The file cut rib is very finely matted culminating in a silver front bead. The sideplates and frame are a silvery gunmetal patina with light sprays of good-quality scroll and borderline engraving with geometric filigree around the hinge pin. There is a tiny bit of oxidation staining on the carry point of the frame and the long tang triggerguard has some light engraving on its bow. The straight grip European walnut buttstock rates excellent with no mentionable handling marks but the very tiniest crack at the rear of the upper tang, it is unobtrusive and could easily be arrested if one wished. The splinter style forend rates excellent as well with perhaps a couple very tiny handling marks and Anson pushbutton release. The protruding dummy ''pins'' on the side plates are goldplated, as-are the triggers, and the length of pull to the rear of the wood is 13 1/4'', 15'' to the dual spacer-recoil pad additions; drops are 1 1/2'' and 2''. Features double triggers, ejectors and non-automatic safety, the gun locks up tightly with the top lever just to the right of center and is on-face. A quality-made and attractive Spanish shotgun overall. (39019-1) {MODERN}

Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver

Lot # 1217 (Sale Order: 218 of 888)

serial #68988, .44 cal, 8'' octagon barrel with a bright very near excellent bore showing some light frosting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain about 60% mostly original bright blue with a few small areas showing some older reapplied blue, high edge wear, areas thinning to gray-brown patina and some moderate scattered tool marks. The cylinder has mostly toned to gray-brown patina, the hammer is a mottled silvery case-hardened patina and the trigger retains a few hints of fire blue. The triggerguard is a pleasant ocher patina showing a small gap between it and the frame. The smooth walnut grips are pencil-numbered to the gun and remain in very good condition showing mostly worn finish, scattered dings and a soft but visible cartouche on the left panel. The loading lever shows an older brazing repair, the barrel and triggerguard are matching the frame and the cylinder is un-numbered. All of the markings are still quite crisp and clear and the action seems to function well mechanically with timing just a little off on one of the chambers. (138944-13) {ANTIQUE}

Rare Factory Engraved Remington Model 81-D Peerless Grade Semi-Auto Rifle

Lot # 1218 (Sale Order: 219 of 888)

serial #41965, 35 Remington, 22'' barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing an almost imperceptible shallow ring about 1'' from the muzzle. This rifle has been nicely restored and retains about 99% good-quality blue finish showing some evidence of light buffing and remnants of a few small pits on the barrel jacket. The factory D-grade engraving along the frame is still almost completely intact featuring tight foliate scrollwork motifs and borders with just a little overall softening from the metal preparation. The bottom of the frame is appropriately marked ''MOD 81-D'' above the serial number and the lower tang is also correctly engraved with the serial number. No number is visible on the barrel jacket collar, the date codes are also no long visible and there is no embellishment along the barrel jacket but the address and patent markings are still mostly legible. Despite the absence of a date code and going by the serial number the rifle was likely produced in 1948. Strangely the rifle wears a set of E-grade stocks, the interior of the forend is stamped ''E'' while the interior of the buttstock is not letter-coded but is stamped with a ''5''. The stocks have likewise been nicely refinished, the raised cheeks no longer present on the buttstock and retain good checkering showing lovely figure throughout with some small dings and handling marks. The buttplate is numbered ''G45408'' on the interior and the black hard rubber Remington pistolgrip cap is completely intact. The rifle is sighted with a Lyman tang peep sight, original rear iron sight, Marble's No. 6 ivory bead front and the action seems to function well mechanically. Still an attractive rifle that may make for a nice upscale shooter. (138963-45) {C&R} [Tim Falvey Collection]
