Interesting U.S. Model 1903 Bolt Action Rifle by Springfield Armory

Lot # 1317 (Sale Order: 318 of 888)

serial #1217703, 30-06, 24'' 1-21 dated Springfield barrel with a very good plus bore that shows some light frosting. The metal surfaces retain 90-93% gray arsenal parkerized finish with some light oxidation staining on the floorplate, further oxidation staining on rear sight base and scattered fading. The two-bolt walnut stock rates very good as lightly cleaned with an added oil finish, the buttplate being proud of wood, a couple sets of initials lightly carved at toe, a couple small chips, a few dings and scattered handling marks. The consignor states that this rifle was a 1921 Navy Match rifle, a search of the Springfield Research service yielded no results with this rifle's serial number. The rifle does have a bolt that is electropenciled numbered matching to the receiver and a Hatcher hole both of which are noted traits of Marine Corps rifles that were rebuilt. There is no mention of 1921 Navy rifles in any of the standard reference texts but further research may prove fruitful. (208809-24) {C&R}
