serial #585085, 38 Special, 6 1/2'' barrel with a bright excellent bore. Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Shotgun

Lot # 1585 (Sale Order: 586 of 888)

serial #1292622, 20 ga., 28'' plain barrel choked modified with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this 1950-made gun retain about 97% original blue with most of the loss due to light to moderate high edge wear, operational wear and a few other handling marks. The smooth walnut pistolgrip buttstock rates very good to excellent with just a few light handling marks but a 1 1/2'' section of the toe appears to have been very lightly sanded and touched up, probably to fix a scuff. The wood remains proud of the buttplate and the refinish was well done but is lighter. The grooved walnut forend rates about excellent with a few light handling marks. The barrel assembly is numbered to the gun. Overall a very nice example of a standard model 12. (88856-8) {C&R}

Marlin Model 1897 Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 1586 (Sale Order: 587 of 888)

serial #188541, 22 S,L,LR, 24'' round barrel with a good bore showing a few rings of moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this rifle retain perhaps 50% original blue thinning throughout and toning to gray-brown patina along with scattered moderate freckling, scratches and a few patches of old moderate pitting along the right side magazine tube and left side barrel. The rear sight leaf retains some strong bright blue while the side of the bolt retains about 90% bright blue with some light oxidation staining and freckling. Some of the screw heads show some light slot damage and the left side and lower small frame screws appear to be replacements. The action is mostly mottled gray patina showing light oxidation staining and freckling scattered about along with strong remnants of case-hardened colors particularly in the more protected areas. The straight grip walnut buttstock and smooth forend remain in very good condition as lightly refinished showing a couple thin drying cracks at the left frame junction, some thin cracks in the finish scattered about, scratches, small dings and handling marks. The original black checkered hard rubber ''MFACo'' buttplate is present and remains in very good condition aside from a 1/2'' split left of the lower screw. The rifle is fitted with semi-buckhorn rear and silver blade front sights and seems to function well mechanically. (138855-5) {C&R}

Smith and Wesson 38 Hand Ejector Target Model of 1905 Revolver

Lot # 1587 (Sale Order: 588 of 888)

serial #529378, 38 Special, 6'' barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 97% original and restored blue finishes, the barrel and cylinder appearing to be factory original in every respect while the frame shows some scant remnants of some extremely light pinprick pitting beneath the polish, the quality of the work is exceptional and certainly could pass for factory, however no factory rework marks are present; one must really scrutinize the gun carefully to realize the frame is a refinish. The hammer and trigger show excellent color case-hardening, muting only slightly on the right side of the trigger. The diamond checkered walnut pre-magna style grips rate very good plus to near excellent, they are un-numbered but their fit is perfect. Features black blade Patridge front sight and square notch black rear. Gun seems to function well mechanically. (38873-365) {C&R}

Lot # 1590 (Sale Order: 591 of 888)

.69 cal., 42'' barrel fastened by three iron barrel bands. The lockplate bears a Federal Eagle over ''US'' ahead of cock and is marked vertically to rear of cock ''HARPERS / FERRY / 1833''. The barrel shows proper ''P / (eaglehead) / V'' inspector's marks with the eaglehead being very light. This looks to be a well-done reconversion from drum and nipple with top surfaces of barrel breech and tang remaining undisturbed and with the touchhole looking good with scattered pitting in the area. The lockplate markings are very crisp and the lockplate appears original with nicely replaced cock, frizzen and pan which match in color very nice nicely. The pan fits beautifully on the exterior but upon internal inspection is clearly replaced. The barrel and lock show an even silver/gray color overall with some patches of very fine pitting present mostly in breech area of barrel. The walnut stock has been refinished with lightly worn edges and a chip at the rear of the lock. Left stock flat shows two light but visible cartouches along with a later small ''1120'' stamped in the same area. The musket comes with what appears to be a reproduction ramrod and the original sling swivels. (18752-47) {ANTIQUE}

U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Contract Musket by Pomeroy

Lot # 1591 (Sale Order: 592 of 888)

.69 cal., 42'' barrel with an oxidized bore. The lockplate is marked with Federal eagle above ''L. POMEROY'' ahead of cock and ''1830 / US'' vertically rear of cock. The barrel bears inspector's marks ''US / JM / P (in sunken starburst)'' and is dated 1829 on the tang. The metal surfaces bear a gray patina with remnants of scattered fine oxidation likely from being cleaned at some point along with some thin scratches and indentations in the bands and the bow of the triggerguard. All markings in the metal remain clear and legible. The musket appears to be a reconversion to flint with a slight flat spot above the touch hole that is also surrounded by pitting and oxidation but shows rather sharp enlarged edges. The breech does not sit properly against the wood leaving a 1/16'' gap and the ''1'' in the date is right on the edge of the tang. The stock rates about very good with light handling marks, a thin crack that runs along the sideplate and through the rear screw hole, good edges and a crisp cartouche and ''L POMEROY'' in the left side flat. A proper trumpet shaped iron ramrod is present. An about very good reconverted Pomeroy contract musket. (58752-105) {ANTIQUE}

U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Contract Musket by Wickham

Lot # 1592 (Sale Order: 593 of 888)

.69 cal., 42'' barrel with an oxidized bore. The lockplate has later ''U.S. / M.T. WICKHAM'' in arc ahead of cock and ''PHILA / 1828'' vertically rear of cock. The barrel is marked ''P'' (in sunken oval) / (eagle head) / V'' additionally there is a small ''R / 1 17'' stamped at the center of the breech and is dated 1829 on the tang. There is a later, crookedly stamped, previous owners name on the sideplate. The metal surfaces bear a gray brown patina overall with remnants of scattered fine oxidation from an older cleaning, the rear of the barrel showing a little more oxidation and spots of pitting with moderate surface oxidation on the interior of the jaws. The barrel has a few tiny impact marks here and there along with some punch-dot bite marks at the rear of the breech and tang, and a couple larger vise marks on the left side flat. The barrel bands appear to have browned and are now toning to a brown gray patina and seem to be slightly oversized, the front band not seating on the spring properly. The musket has been reconverted from percussion and the markings remain clear and legible. The walnut stock rates about very good overall with a small crack between the rear tang and lock, and the rear of the lockplate, along with a large chip between the pan and cock. There is a large dent in front of the side flat along with other dents and handling marks from the years and a very faint cartouche, the wood may have seen a little added finish and is a bit shy of the metal at the toe. The swivels are in place along with an iron trumpet-shaped ramrod. An overall very good reconverted Wickham musket. (58752-48) {ANTIQUE}
