Colt Model 1862 Police Percussion Revolver

Lot # 26 (Sale Order: 26 of 824)

serial #37722, .36 cal, 6 1/2” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel on this stunning revolver retains about 50% original blue which is quite bright in spots, toning to a very nice plum brown in the areas of loss. The loading lever with strong case colors at its root. The cylinder retains a similar amount of blue, perhaps a tad more and there are the remnants of cylinder rest pins at its rear. The frame shows a strong 98% vibrant case colors as does the hammer. The guard and backstrap retain nearly all their original silver plate which is beginning to show some nice tarnish. The grip rates very good plus to about excellent with nearly all its original varnish showing a few dings and wear along the sharp edges at the butt; it is pencil-numbered to the gun. A few of the screw slots show some minor damage but all the numbers are matching including the wedge and the gun is tight mechanically. Really a super example that looks like it should be in a casing. (37080-1){ANTIQUE}

Webley & Scott Mark Iv Engraved And Gold Plated Revolver

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 27 of 824)

serial #A98093, 32 Long, 3” ribbed barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this lovely revolver retain about 98% original gold plate with very light wear on some of the leading and sharper edges, chiefly the leading edge of butt. The arm is overall engraved in nice English scroll and retains the typical maker’s markings in their appropriate spots. The smooth genuine mother-of-pearl grips rate excellent. This example is fitted with a factory safety lever at the rear of the frame behind the hammer. The lock-up is tight and the mechanism seems to function well. The revolver rides in an English oak case which rates very good with a blue interior lining, brass wiping rod and 12-place cartridge block. Rare North Amercian Arms Company 1911 Pistol

Lot # 29 (Sale Order: 29 of 824)

serial #88, 45 ACP, 5" barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is an absolutely all original and completely honest example of these rare and highly desirable 1911 pistols. The pistol bears proper slide marking and has matching serial number "88" on left side of slide just behind serrations, on left side of trigger and on left side of frame beneath grip panel. The original hammer has a smooth wide spur and the mainspring housing was made without a lanyard loop. The condition of the pistol is quite nice. The metal surfaces of pistol retain 70% original blue finish overall with nearly all of the loss being due to flaking, primarily on the right side of the slide where the exposed metal has taken on a pleasing even and smooth gray brown patina. The diamond checkered walnut grips rate excellent with strong checkering and lots of original finish. This pistol was previously owned by Lloyd C. Greene of Chelmsford, Massachusetts who was an ordnance officer in WWII. Mr. Greene purchased the pistol from the daughter of "Colonel Albee" and copies of his correspondence beginning in 1995, outlining how he came to own the gun and asking for information from Colt and from the Connecticut State Library as to the full name of "Colonel Albee" are included with the pistol. Colonel Orton Wheelock Albee was the U.S. Ordnance officer and inspection manager for all of Canada, overseeing the inspection and supply of over 300 munitions plants. He died at his home in Marlboro, Massachusetts after an operation in 1919 at the young age of 46. An untouched and completely honest example of these highly sought after WWI pistols. Investment quality. (17019-1) {C&R}

Griffin & Howe Custom Winchester High Wall Single Shot Rifle

Lot # 33 (Sale Order: 33 of 824)

serial #1052 (G&H), 250-3000, 26" round barrel with an excellent bore. This rifle is engraved on the top of its barrel "No. 1052 GRIFFIN & HOWE, INC. NEW YORK" and in the left side of action with what we presume is the name of the person that ordered the rifle "A.B. COULTERS". The modifications to this rifle, in addition to the stocking and barreling, is a rimless extractor which appears to actually be an ejector as there is a spring loaded plunger mounted on the left side of the action which appears to be function as an accelerator for the extractor causing the empty shell to eject. Additionally the lower tang has been lengthened and squared off where it meets the grip cap with no Winchester serial number present. The beavertail forend is affixed by a single sling stud which screws into a barrel collar. The metal surfaces of the rifle retain 98% Griffin & Howe applied blue finish. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend are typical Griffin & Howe style with a bold iron capped pistolgrip, a checkered steel shotgun buttplate and a horn forend tip. The stocks rate excellent with 97% original oil finish remaining with crisp checkering. The breech of the barrel is equipped with a single Griffin & Howe top mount quick detachable base and there are no open sights present. Mark Benenson comments in his notes that Griffin & Howe custom High Walls are quite scarce, this being chambered in a rimless cartridge with rimless ejector conversion may be unique. A wonderful custom High Wall. (17022-1) {C&R} [Mark Benenson Collection]

This rifle features wonderfully executed custom stocks of highly figured walnut, a fully engraved action and a barrel marked only on the underside "C.E. DURHAM GUNSMITH". The barrel is unembellished and marked only as previously noted. Superb Factory Engraved Manhattan Navy Type Revolver

Lot # 39 (Sale Order: 39 of 824)

serial #49, .36 caliber, 6 1/2" octagon barrel with a near very good bore that shows some patches of light pitting and oxidation. This is an interesting revolver. The serial number (which could actually be a batch number) is not found in the typical locations on the different components. Instead they are found on the rear of frame beneath the grips, sides of triggerguard and backstrap (beneath grips), in pencil in the channel on back of grips, rear face of barrel lug, front face of cylinder, leg side of arbor and in the normal position on the bottom of the wedge. Nutter references these guns with unusual serial number placement and illustrates No. 23 which has numbers in the same positions as this gun. The example he shows has a spring plate on the face of the recoil shield, this example does not. He speculates that Manhattan made about 100 of these special pilot models but he references the spring plate as the reason for the special series, this one not having the spring plate conflicts with that theory. The engraving on this revolver is of very fine quality with finely punchdot shaded backgrounds and crisp flowing relief scroll. The barrel shows a one line Newark address and retains bright original blue beneath the loading lever with the balance bearing a pleasing smooth gray brown patina. The frame also shows a generous amount of faded original color case-hardened finish blending with a smooth gray patina and with more vivid colors visible on protected areas of face of recoil shield and top of frame beneath cylinder. The cylinder is a pleasing smooth gray brown patina with excellent scene which is 90% plus visible. The brass gripstraps retain a rich and fabulous untouched patina. In addition to the fabulous engraving, this revolver is equipped with its original relief carved ivory grips with a beautiful portrait of Lady Columbia. The grips remain in excellent condition with no chips. This is a particularly handsome and well executed engraved Manhattan with the added mystique of being a so-called pilot model. Perhaps the finest and most crisp factory engraved Manhattan Navy revolver we have ever offered. Investment quality. (16655-13) {ANTIQUE} [Manhattanfirearms.com Collection]

Mass Arms Company Maynard Primed Belt Model Percussion Revolver

serial #582, .31 Cal, 6” barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows a few spots of very light pitting. The barrel retains some generous traces of original blue, perhaps 20%, the areas of loss toned to a pleasing plum brown, the left side of the barrel showing minor scratches and some light pits. The barrel frame shows some trace case colors, the balance a mottled gray brown patina. The frame is primarily a dull gray case-hardened patina with some traces of colors, the loading gate now a plum brown. The triggerguard and front and back straps retain perhaps 97% original silver plate which is tarnishing in areas. The trigger is now a plum brown and gray with the hammer showing some generous traces of pale blue. The cylinder is very nice showing some strong remnants of original blue on the top surfaces of the etch with the rebated surfaces a plum and pewter. Lot # 42 (Sale Order: 42 of 824)

.36 Cal, 2 3/4” six-barrel cluster with oxidized bores. The metal surfaces on this rather neat pepperbox are primarily a tarnished pewter gray patina with some remnants of fire temper blue. The left and right radii of the frame are engraved “Wm & Jn Rigby/Dublin”. The triangular “bayonet” blade is 3 1/4” in length and a similar patina as the balance of the arm. The smooth walnut grips rate about very good as refinished, being just slightly under in spots with some dings and handling marks from the years. The gun is cased in what is likely its original antique presentation case with makers label on the interior. The exterior appears to be refinished with modern green felt on the bottom, the interior appears unretouched. Inside we find a James Dickson & Sons powder and shot measure and a small single ball iron bullet mould with a small selection of percussion caps. The barrel cluster will rotate only occasionally. Extremely Rare Consecutively Numbered Pair Of Colt Model 1900 Second Army Contract Pistols

Lot # 50 (Sale Order: 50 of 824)

serial #1558 and 1559, 38 Rimless Smokeless, 6" barrels with excellent bores which each show a little light frosting ahead of chambers. These pistols remain unaltered with their original sight safeties intact. These pistols are two of only 200 Second Army contract pistols which were delivered to the Government in four 50 gun shipments. It is interesting to note that these are part of the second shipment of guns which shipped on January 11, 1901 and were not marked with Rinaldo A. Carr's acceptance mark on the right side of the triggerguard, the left side of each triggerguard is stamped "U.S.". The pistols each retain about 60 - 70% original blue finish overall with areas of loss bearing a pleasing smooth gray brown patina with a couple small patches of very fine pitting on the top of the slide on gun #1559. All markings including Rampant Colts remain crisp and fully legible. Color case hardening on the hammer and sight safeties remain quite strong, fire blue on triggers is very good. Both sets of checkered walnut grips rate very good plus to near excellent with 90% plus original finish remaining. Each pistol comes with its original nickel plated magazine marked on bottom "PAT'D SEPT. 9. 1884". The fact that these two pistols remain together and in unaltered condition is remarkable. All but a handful of these 200 pistols were shipped to the Philippines for testing, upon their return many were shipped to Colt for conversion of the sight safeties. These pistols remain in fine all original condition and are of investment quality. An extremely rare and highly sought after pair of U.S. Martial Colt 1900 pistols. (17027-6, 7) {C&R}
