Remington No. 2 Deluxe Rolling Block "Schuetzen" Rifle

Lot # 251 (Sale Order: 251 of 601)

serial #H40443, 25-20 Single Shot, 28 1/4" octagon barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing some very fine oxidation and mild frosting in the grooves with otherwise strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this interesting rifle retains about 80% of a fine quality period restored plum-brown finish showing some overall mild thinning under bright light, a few light dings and scuffs along the edges and some remnants of fine pinprick pitting beneath the finish. The Remington Arms Co. address and caliber designation remain intact and quite crisp. The action retains perhaps 70% original vibrant case-hardened colors that remain particularly vivid along the left side, triggerguard and either side of the hammer with most of the loss due to some cleaned light pitting along the right side, top of breech and lower tang that are toning to a silvery pewter patina. The hammer and breechblock retain about 90% original blue with loss due to some old oxidation and light pitting along the spurs. The checkered pistolgrip walnut Schuetzen-style buttstock and forend with ebony tip insert remain in very fine condition as very lightly cleaned and refinished long ago showing some sparsely scattered light dings and handling marks. The forend is stamp-numbered matching the action and the diamond point checkering shows light overall wear but remains intact. The checkering along the pistolgrip is of a slightly different style with finer points and the buttstock is un-numbered and likely a replacement from the period of use. It has certainly been with the arm for a very long time and was expertly crafted and fitted. The buttstock features a generous left-side cheekpiece and heavy nickel-plated brass buttplate retaining about 98% finish and showing some scattered light dings. The name "C. H. BARNES" is stamped in small block letters on the inside of the buttplate. The barrel is matching the frame, the rear sight dovetail has been blanked and the rifle is sighted with a Lyman target globe front sight and tang sight with wide aperture disc. The action seems to function well mechanically. An attractive and interesting No. 2 that can do doubt still be enjoyed at the range. (13C9670-130) {C&R} [David & Lore Squier Collection] (1000/1500)

Scarce & Very Fine Remington No. 7 Rolling Block Rifle

Lot # 252 (Sale Order: 252 of 601)

serial #3177, 22 LR, 28" part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel of this fine No. 7 retains about 98% original blue that is taking on a pleasant deep plum-brown patina under bright light along with some very faint thinning at the muzzle, a couple sparsely scattered tiny dings and one or two errant freckles. The action retains about 96-97% original vibrant case-hardened colors that show some very mild muting and silvering along the lower tang and triggerguard along with a few faint freckles. The hammer remains mostly bright showing some mild gray freckling and the breechblock retains about 98% original blue showing some high edge wear. The action pins retain almost all of their nice straw color while the trigger, retainer plate and screws also retain much of their brilliant fire blue showing some mild silvering. The Remington Arms Co. barrel address and cartridge designation remain strong and quite crisp while the original 1871 pistol frame markings on the left side have softened somewhat but remain legible. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock and smooth forend with slight schnabel remain in very fine condition retaining most of their original varnish showing some sparsely scattered light dings, a few tiny areas of discoloration and a couple tiny thin drying cracks along the butt. The diamond point checkering along the pistolgrip remains crisp showing just a couple lightly chipped points and the forend shows some nice straight grain figure while the buttstock is a bit plainer with subtle figure. The scalloped hard rubber pistolgrip cap and Remington monogram buttplate are very nice with just some toning to mild brown patina. There is a small silver monogram plate affixed to the rear bottom of the forend that is engraved "D.V.ELY." Delevan Vaughn Ely was secretary of the Utica Daily Press newspaper. The tangs are stamp-numbered "3177" internally and the barrel and forend have a matching assembly number "292". The flat profile along the sides of the forend is rather different than that seen on other examples, the pistolgrip checkering is also a different style than other examples and there is no Remington-reapplied new serial number along the lower tang suggesting this may be some sort of factory test or prototype arm for the new No. 7 configuration. The rifle is sighted with the appropriate Lyman tang sight with large aperture disc and Beach-style combination front sight and the action seems to function well mechanically. An excellent example of these handsome and desirable late-production Remington sporting rifles that saw very limited sales in the early 1900's. Winchester Model 52 Sporter Bolt Action Rifle

Lot # 253 (Sale Order: 253 of 601)

Pre '68, 22 LR, 24'' barrel with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain near 99% original blue with a tiny area of concentrated freckles on the underside of the barrel near the muzzle and some small blemishes on the ''SPORTING''-marked bottom metal. The bolt body and the subsequent area on the receiver have been finely engine-turned and a tight band of checkering has been added to the knob. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip stock with left-side cheekpiece and black tip is near very good with some slight edge wear on the checkered steel buttplate, scattered handling marks and blemishes, the gun was obviously used for its intended purpose but was well-cared-for. The rifle is sighted with a hooded bead front, a Lyman aperture is mounted to the receiver and a Griffin & Howe see-through mount with a Lyman All-American 4X scope with crosshair reticle and clear optics has been permanently-affixed to the receiver. This mount partially-obscures the serial number, only revealing the first two numbers, ''33''. This leaves the viewer to only speculate on the rest of the numbers but being in the 33,000 serial range makes this a very early Model 52 Sporter. A single Winchester-marked magazine is included. A very fine early Sporter with tons of original metal finish for the serious collector or shooter alike. (22B9789-41) {C&R} (2500/4000)

Sharps Borchardt Model 1878 Short Range Rifle

Lot # 255 (Sale Order: 255 of 601)

serial #17346, 40 1 7/8", 26" tapered round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rifle features an unpaneled action along with checkered walnut stocks with an uncapped curled pistolgrip and a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate. The condition of the rifle is very fine and it is all original. The barrel shows proper Bridgeport address along with the "Old Reliable" moniker and is caliber marked on left side just ahead of breech "40 1 7/8". The barrel retains 98% rich original blue finish overall with all markings remaining clear and legible. The action retains about 95% original color case-hardened finish which has faded somewhat but remains visible on all surfaces. The right side of the action is slightly more faded than the left side, all markings are clear and legible, most screw slots are clean with a couple showing very slight wear. The checkered pistolgrip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent with 95% original finish remaining and with sharp checkering. There is one minor crack in the left side of the stock at the action running with the grain and ending where the checkering begins. The rifle is sighted with a windgauge front, Lawrence sporting rear and a Sharps short range peepsight mounted in integral base. There are quite a few variations within the short range rifle including those with uncheckered capped pistolgrip stocks and those built with paneled actions. With a total of only 150 of these rifles produced, it is fair to say that it would be very difficult to upgrade from this rifle. A wonderful, investment quality Sharps Borchardt rifle. Handsome Custom Springfield 1903 Sporting Rifle by Bob Owen

Lot # 256 (Sale Order: 256 of 601)

serial #785 (maker numbered), 30-06, 24'' barrel with a bright about excellent bore. This classic sporting rifle is the work of Bob Owen of Saquoit New York and is actually pictured in Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century (Volume 1 © 2005 Precision Shooting), in the introductory chapter. The barreled action retains perhaps 90% original fading deep gray-blue maker rust blue, the loss due to even fading, some wear to pewter and flaking to brown around the front sight ramp. The bottom metal was neatly modified by Owen into a hinged-style floorplate, the bow of the guard lightly sculpted, it is now a deep blue-gray with a bit of very sparse light surface oxidation. The arm is stocked classic style with Bob Owen's signature rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece with a rather flat-bottom, this example with dual shadowlines. His signature arrowhead is at the rear of mid-stock, ahead of the grip's checkered panels. The forend shows a wrap-around diamond ''ribbon''-pattern, all of the checkering borderless, the stock satin-finished and rating fine with the expected light handling marks that come from a field-used arm, a small 1'' crack behind the top tang and with a bit of oil soaking in this area. The arm features a nice blued steel trapdoor pistolgrip cap, bone forend tip and lightly engraved checkered trapdoor steel buttplate giving a 13 3/8'' length of pull. The rifle is sighted with a very nice banded sporting ramp front with a brass bead sight having a flip-up lowlight white bead concealed within the ramp and push-button release for a hood (the hood is not present); a second such sight is present within the trapdoor gripcap. There is a Lyman 48 sight fitted on the receiver and the left side of the action has a nice Griffin & Howe single lever quick detachable base and ring set installed. Bob Owen's name is neatly engraved atop the barrel ''RG Owen-Saquoit New York No. 785'' and the top of the receiver ring is neatly hand matted with the bolt handle showing excellent quality tight flowing scroll with five round checkered panels on the knob; the safety as well has been very neatly, very finely metal checkered. The rings support a Carl Zeiss Zielklein telescopic sight with crosshair reticle and bright excellent optics. The scope rates very good with light wear to both the tube and the ocular lens tube showing a few scratches from a previous mounting. The rifle features quick detachable super grade-style sling swivels and there is a gold shield-shaped monogram plate along the toeline which remains un-engraved. Bob Owen made some of the nicest rifles of the classic American sporting rifle-era, this example is no exception and shows just enough wear one could still take it afield while letting it appreciate in value as the years pass. The metal surfaces on this top-notch sporting rifle retain about 99% top-quality maker blue, the underside of the barrel showing a couple freckles of very light oxidation ahead of the forend tip. Custom James Howe-Style Springfield Sporting Rifle in .400 Whelen

Lot # 258 (Sale Order: 258 of 601)

serial #4092122, 400 Whelen, 22'' James Howe barrel, with a bright excellent bore. This is a very interesting and quality-made rifle and one of the ''original four'' 400 Whelen barrels made by James Howe while in Philadelphia. While mated to a later action, the barrel retains about 95% of what appears to be original rust blue and is neatly engraved in the appropriate area ''No. 10 Jas. V. Howe Phila PA''. Mike Petrov mentions in his second volume of Custom Gunmakers of the 20th Century that he is aware of an identically marked rifle which was ''No. 11'', which he surmised was one of the four original 400 Whelen rifles. The barrel was very neatly mated to a Model 03-A3 action which shows remnants of a fading grayish blue buffed finish, the bottom metal is nice quality milled 1903 style and retains perhaps 97% good-quality blue showing a bit of wear. The floorplate is in-the-white and shows later engraving with open flowing scroll front and rear surrounding a depiction of a snarling grizzly bear, face-on, mouth open and teeth bared; it is signed only ''JA'' at its rear. The bolt body remains bright with a neatly added bolt handle with a rather pear-shaped knob with light engraving on the handle and open scroll on the knob proper. The arm is very precisely stocked, very James Howe or Griffin & Howe-style in a nice grade of American black walnut with a classic comb, rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece and a nice rosewood forend tip. The stock rates excellent and shows some nice shimmering figure and has a subtle satin finish with perhaps a very minor handling mark here or there. The grip and forend feature flawlessly executed wrap-around checkering patterns and there is an un-engraved silver monogram plate along the toeline. The stock has a nice Fisher style steel gripcap and there is a lightly engraved grooved steel trapdoor buttplate in place giving a 13 3/4'' length of pull; the area beneath the trapdoor has not yet been inletted for cartridges or compartment, awaiting only your whim. The rifle features its original banded sporting ramp front sight with a custom bead style insert and hand-made hand-matted quarter rib at the rear, with two folding leaf express sight blades regulated for 100 and 200 yards. There is light engraving of excellent quality around the ramp, on the sling swivel band, with light quality scroll and geometric engraving the flanking the hand-matting above the chamber with ''400 Whelen'' very neatly hand engraved; the barrel is numbered 183770 on its underside. The receiver has been drilled and tapped for a Lyman aperture sight designed for a 1903 Springfield, it has been appropriately fitted and modified to work with this action, and there is a rather high Griffin & Howe style quick-detach ring and base set added at the left side of the receiver. The Carl Zeiss Zielklein scope itself is 7/8'' diameter and features a nice Germanic three post reticle with clear optics, the scope rating very good showing only light wear. This is a very nicely-executed 1903 sporting rifle very much in the James Howe or G&H tradition, mimicking that work very nearly precisely, with what is clearly an original Howe barrel from the classic American sporting rifle-era. An investment grade-rifle that one needn't be afraid to take a afield. (39721-3) {MODERN} (2500/4000)

Very Early Winchester Pre-War Model 70 Purportedly Belonging to Robert F. Kennedy

Lot # 259 (Sale Order: 259 of 601)

serial #559, 220 Swift, 26'' barrel with an excellent bore. A notarized letter from well-known New York collector and dealer Maurice Mudge accompanies this rifle and indicates that he purchased this rifle from Robert F. Kennedy's brother-in-law in 1964. Interestingly there are two guns listed on the letter, the other rifle was a Stevens 416 and was sold to well-known collector and dealer Ron Peterson, who subsequently donated the arm to the NRA Museum. The barreled action retains perhaps 98% original blue with a couple tiny rub marks on the barrel, the bolt body has darkened somewhat and is marked with matching serial number. The triggerguard is mostly brown with some flakes of original blue, the floorplate fares better retaining 85% original blue with loss due to scratches and handling marks. The checkered walnut pistolgrip stock with checkered steel buttplate is very good, there are a couple light scuffs and thinned finish near the toe and some scattered signs of handling. An adjustable Lyman No. 48 peep sight is attached to the receiver, the rear barrel dovetail is filled with a blank and there is a hooded bead front sight. A very early first-year production rifle with some interesting historical ties. (22B9721-1) {C&R} (5000/7000)

Early Henry Repeating Rifle by New Haven Arms Co. Pictured in the Winchester Book

Lot # 260 (Sale Order: 260 of 601)

serial #2260, 44 Henry RF, 24" octagon barrel with a good bore showing some scattered light pitting and oxidation with some bright areas and otherwise strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this rifle has mostly toned to a mix of pleasant deep gray and plum-brown patina showing some scattered remnants of old minor oxidation staining, some old dings near the front sight and along the barrel sleeve and a 1" area of moderate old scratches or scuff marks on the left side barrel sleeve. The lever and hammer are a mild gray patina, the lever showing some scattered areas of darker plum-brown and the hammer with some smoky colors present along the protected front face. The follower stop screw on the left side of the barrel is a replacement, a number of the screw heads show light slot wear and the trigger spring still retains a few flakes of bright fire blue. The barrel address is the correct smaller style and remains remarkably crisp and clear, the serial number as well albeit the "0" has been poorly struck by the factory. The action and rounded buttplate have toned to a very nice rich ocher patina showing some scattered light dings and mild handling marks, the dings a bit more noticeable along the bottom of the cartridge lifter and top right edge. The sideplates show very slight gaps and are a tad proud at their forward top corners, the edges of the frame otherwise quite nice and well-defined. The left side of the frame shows a lightly scratched name that appears to be "G Gundlach" and the inside of the right sideplate is also scratched "A E WG / 1887". The smooth walnut "perch belly" stock remains in very good condition showing remnants of original finish with some scattered old abrasions along the left side, a couple smoothed-over shallow old chips and a couple of small very thin cracks where the stock meets the frame and at the upper tang, these being very unobtrusive. The stock fit at the forward corners of the upper tang shows some very thin gaps while the fit at the buttplate and lower tang is excellent and the "Henry bump" on the left side below the sling swivel is still perceptible. The stock is correctly stamp-numbered matching the rifle along the upper tang inlet and the buttplate is matching stamped on the inside toe. As-is correct for an earlier rifle, all of the stock and buttplate screws are matching and the heads appropriately machined to fit the contours of the arm. The inside lower tang is matching and also stamped with an "N" and "C", no external inspector stamp or punch mark is visible. The barrel and barrel sleeve are matching each other by assembly number "890". The original sights and sling swivels are intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. This rifle is pictured in The Winchester Book by Madis on page 32 and is noted as then being part of the Fred Miles collection, also at that time the rear sight was located in the receiver dovetail. Also included is a nicely made wooden plaque with brass plate engraved with the particulars of the rifle and a hand-written letter by Winchester collector Norman A. Vegely in which he describes the general features of the rifle, noting it is somewhat unusual for an early rifle to be equipped with sling swivels and that is was also once part of the Alvin Roberts collection. A fine Henry rifle with early features. (13F9739-1) {ANTIQUE} (15,000/25,000)

Winchester Model 1866 Fourth Model Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 261 (Sale Order: 261 of 601)

Description Update 11/17/2020: Period repair at upper tang screw hole and a small thin crack left front forend

serial #150385, 44 RF, 24" octagon barrel with a very good bore showing strong clean rifling with one area of light pitting. This is a nice clean rifle. The barrel and magazine retain a pleasing and even smooth brown patina overall with traces of original blue in protected areas and with crisp clear markings. The rifle was built on a carbine action showing factory filled staple holes. The action bears a wonderful undisturbed patina with sideplates being very tight. The hammer and lever show an even gray patina with mottled color case-hardening still visible on the hammer. The plain walnut stock and forend are iron mounted and rate excellent with a good deal of original finish and perhaps a little added light oil. The rifle is sighted with standard sights. The screwheads remain quite clean with some showing only the slightest evidence of being turned. This is a very fine example of the late model 1866 rifle. (1D9779-7) {ANTIQUE} (6000/8000)

Extremely Handsome Factory ''D'' Engraved Colt New Frontier New Model Single Action Revolver

Lot # 262 (Sale Order: 262 of 601)

serial #03706NF, 45 Colt, 7 1/2'' barrel with a bright excellent, unfired bore. This is a lovely new model New Frontier single action revolver engraved in Colts factory D-level engraving in 1978. The arm is as-expected as-new, unfired, unturned since leaving the blue dome. All of the original blue and color case-hardened finishes are present with the bright-polished sides of the hammer remaining brilliant. Coverage is near full, with open flowing scroll engraving with only the frontstrap and very edges of the triggerguard un-engraved. The smooth walnut grips with gold Rampant Colt medallions are excellent to as-new showing a tiny ding in each, they are pencil-numbered to the gun on their interior. The arm comes in a Colt walnut presentation case with key and the orange hangtag is included; the case itself rates about excellent with light dings, scratches or handling marks about its exterior surface. The interior of the frame is indeed stamped ''Colt Eng'' and is otherwise unsigned, quite possibly the work of Len Francolini or Bob Burt who were both factory engravers in 1978. The only detractor on the gun is a very tiny section of loss to the color case-hardening at the left front leading edge of the frame at the junction of the barrel where what appears to be a miniscule amount of surface oxidation was removed. It is unobtrusive, missed at first glance and does not detract the tiniest bit from the wonderful work executed on this revolver. All of the numbers are of-course matching. New Fr000ontiers are far-less encountered factory engraved than their common Single Action Army counterparts, this example is suitable for the best of Colt collections. Handsome Burgess Gun Company B-Grade Slide Action Shotgun Two Barrel Set

Lot # 263 (Sale Order: 263 of 601)

serial #1251, 12 ga., 26'' solid rib barrel, un-choked, and 30'' solid rib barrel, choked a tight modified, with bright excellent and very fine bores respectively, the longer barrel showing some very light remnants of oxidation staining or perhaps very light pinprick pitting scattered about half of its length. The shorter barrel shows nice star pattern gray and brown damascus its full-length with interspersed very light oxidation staining here and there, with strong blue remaining on the nosecap, the magazine tube fading to a plum and pewter patina with strong blue on the magazine cap. The longer barrel shows a fading damascus pattern its full-length, showing a bit more scattered oxidation staining and spots of very light pinprick pits on the underside ahead of the magazine tube. The attendant metal has mostly faded to a pewter gunmetal patina and there is a small impact mark at the right rear of rib. The nosecaps, magazine tubes and the tube cap of the shorter barrel show light, good quality scroll engraving and both are numbered in matching fonts at their breech ends ''1251''. The receiver remains quite nice with perhaps 80% original blue, with fading to pewter on the carry point at the belly and rounded sections of the frame, the frame flats retaining their bright original polish with somewhat fading bright blue. The left flat shows a woodcock game scene, the right with a bobwhite quail, with good quality scroll front and rear and geometric engraving on the belly and bow of the triggerguard. The English walnut buttstock and both checkered forends rate very good with much original varnish and overall light dings and handling marks, both forends showing a bit more wear, the longer set with a couple of minor cracks and the checkering showing more wear. The pistolgrip is more coarsely checkered and remains very good with small crack as well. A couple of the screw heads show some slot damage but they are certainly not beyond saving and certainly could be dressed, the toe of the buttplate has chipped off but again a talented 'smith could effect a repair with epoxy. The gun seems to function well mechanically and both barrels mount solidly, the face of the receiver stamped with the gun serial number and a capital letter ''B''. This is a very attractive graded Burgess shotgun two-barrel set showing some nice quality engraving. (3C9670-11) {ANTIQUE} [David & Lore Squier Collection] (4000/6000)

Very Rare & Fine Winchester Model 1895 Deluxe Lever Action Short Rifle

Lot # 265 (Sale Order: 265 of 601)

serial #33421, 30-40 Krag, 22" round barrel with a partially bright about very good plus bore showing some scattered pinprick pitting and light oxidation in the grooves, a bit more noticeable approaching the muzzle, with otherwise strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this handsome rifle retains about 90-92% original blue with most of the loss due to some scattered very light pitting along its length that is toning to a mild brown patina, likely due to some poor storage in the past, a few smaller areas of mild thinning and light handling marks. The action retains about 80-85% original bright blue with flaking mostly along the high edges toning to a pleasant gray-brown patina, a few tiny dings, specks of brown and mild striations along the sides. The bolt retains about 97% lovely bright blue showing some mild edge wear and the extractor, magazine follower and lever catch retain most of their brilliant fire blue, the trigger being a pale fire blue and straw tone. The hammer and lever link retain about 95% vibrant case-hardened colors with some mild muting along the hammer. A couple of screw heads show some light slot wear, all markings remain crisp and clear and the arm is properly not stamped with Winchester's "WP" proof. The checkered straight grip deluxe walnut buttstock and schnabel forend with ebony tip insert remain in very fine condition showing generous amounts of original oil finish that is thinning along the sides of the butt along with the expected scattered light dings and handling marks. There is a very thin 1 1/2" crack at the bottom right edge where the stock meets the frame that flexes very slightly along with a number of thin cracks that extend into the interior inletting that are unobtrusive from the outside and can no doubt be addressed by a good wood man. The diamond point checkering with neatly mullered borders remains completely intact showing only very light wear and the buttstock shows wonderful feathercrotch grain figure throughout, the forend with some slightly subtler but very handsome fiddleback grain. The original black checkered hard rubber buttplate is intact and rates near excellent showing a few small handling marks. The forend and tangs are unmarked and the buttstock shows a penciled number "11199" along the upper inlet and is also stamped "95 / 11199" beneath the buttplate, their fit to the frame being excellent. The rifle is sighted with flattop sporting rear sight, Lyman white bead front and the action seems to function well mechanically. Cody records indicate this rifle shipped as-described with 22" barrel, fancy checkered and oil-finished stocks, shotgun butt with rubber plate and the aforementioned sights on November 25, 1901 as order number 122467. The records also indicate the arm was returned to the factory for repair on February 10, 1903, order number 177626. A very fine deluxe short rifle for the advanced Winchester collector in a wonderful and seldom seen configuration. (13E9710-75) {C&R} (6000/8000)

The Oigee Luxor 3X scope has mostly toned to a mottled gray patina showing some scattered areas of smoothed-over light pitting and old oxidation, the brass hardware showing strong black enamel finish and all markings remain strong. The scope is numbered "100433" and features duplex-type reticle with somewhat yellowed but serviceable optics, the crosshairs with some mild "fraying" and some mild occlusions along the periphery. The rear base screws are not quite indexed properly, the bolt handle is turned down a bit sharper than it ought to be and there is no cutout in the stock for the handle, but the hardware appears to be quite old with a similar patina as the rifle. The smooth walnut stock and handguard remain in about very good condition showing areas darkened from the years, a few scattered shallow old chips, some mild abrasions behind the upper tang, light drying cracks along the butt and overall dings. There are faint inspector stamps along the right side butt, no visible number along the toe line and the disc is unit-marked "R.22.1.63." The rear sight parts are numbered "29" and the remaining serialized parts are matching, the tip of the firing pin broken off and the action otherwise seems to function well mechanically. An interesting Gew.98 sniper rifle, likely assembled post-war but one that certainly looks the part. (13B9736-48) {C&R} (1800/2200)

German K98K Long Side Rail Sniper Rifle by Gustloff Werke

Lot # 267 (Sale Order: 267 of 601)

serial #55519, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this very fine bcd 4-coded rifle retain about 95% original smooth gray Parkerized finish showing a few scattered areas of freckling and mild brown patina mostly along the barrel nearer the muzzle and front band along with some minor handling marks. The stamped qnw-coded triggerguard and the front sight hood retain a similar amount of original blue showing some minor high edge wear while the extractor has taken on a slightly case-hardened tone. The rifle is equipped with the proper checkered buttplate that has toned to a silvery pewter patina and the scope base and mount retain about 98% original blue showing some mild high edge wear. The Kahles H/4x60 scope with sunshade retains about 95% original blue showing some scattered areas of light flaking and mild oxidation staining and the alloy fittings retain a similar amount of black enamel finish. The scope itself is numbered "43551" and features the typical German reticle with slightly yellowed optics showing some minor occlusions around the periphery but otherwise remaining completely serviceable. The smooth laminated hardwood stock and handguard remain in about very good plus condition, the stock showing a couple of scattered thin cracks with a 1 1/4" crack behind the triggerguard, 2" ahead of the scope base and a very small one ahead of the triggerguard. The stock is otherwise quite nice showing just some scattered light dings and handling marks with a strong "(Eagle) / H" on the right side butt and "c" along the toe line. The stock and handguard are un-numbered inside and out and the stock does show a strong Waffenamt on the interior and "Br" beneath the buttplate. All markings remain strong and intact, the receiver ring with proper "(Eagle) / 749", the right edge of the rear sight base shows a small "a" and "(Eagle) / 18", the right side receiver ring, follower and floorplate are stamped with a proper small "1" and the barrel bands are unmarked. The scope base and mount are stamped with the correct "(Eagle) / 359", the bolt is equipped with the proper scope clearance safety, all of the numbered bolt parts are matching and the scope mount is also matching the receiver. Included are a set of black leather scope covers and a brown leather sling. The covers rate very good plus showing some scuffs, crackling and a "(Eagle) / WaA414" on one cover while the sling rates very fine showing some mild staining and minor flaking along with a pencil-written name on the inside that is very difficult to discern. This is a very lovely correct late-war sniper that would make an excellent addition to any advanced sniper or martial collection. (13G9807-204) {C&R} [Vincent Coniglio Collection] (10,000/15,000)

SSZZA4 Marked K98k Bolt Action Rifle by Steyr

Lot # 269 (Sale Order: 269 of 601)

serial #6997, 8mm Mauser, 24'' barrel with a very good bore with intermittent light pitting and oxidation, but strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this ''bnz / 42'' coded rifle have a mottled brown patina with remnants of original blue, light wear on the high edges and contact points, a few scattered traces of previous light oxidation and scattered light handling marks. The laminated hardwood stock is in very good plus condition with normal field wear, and a few scattered light handling marks now devoid of finish. The cupped steel buttplate is a dull gunmetal gray with scattered light oxidation staining and light pitting. The stock is marked with a crisp Death's Head behind the triggerguard, and is lightly serialized and matching on the toe line; the upper barrel band resists removal, so the numbering of the handguard cannot be verified. The coding on the receiver ring remains clearly marked, the barrel is marked with the serial number and three correct crisp ''WaA623'' waffenamt on the left and a crisp ''(Eagle) / SSZZA4'' marking on the right side, just above the wood. The rear sight, bolt handle, and triggerguard are serialized and matching to the rifle and the remaining parts are unmarked; a crisp ''77'' waffenamt stamped on the extractor is the sole other waffenamt marked on the rifle. The rifle is sighted with the standard barleycorn front sight and leaf rear sight, the front sight hood is intact, the follower has been lightly modified to remove the bolt hold-open feature, and the rifle appears to function well mechanically. Included with the rifle is a 12 1/2'' cleaning rod, a ''SS (Death's Head) 1'' marked leather sling in very good condition with a few light drying cracks and spots of light wear, and finally a hand-written note from Bob Jensen dated June 18, 2001 detailing the collection of nineteen serial numbers of ''SSZZA4'' rifles he had recorded in thirty years, including the serial number of this very rifle; Mr. Jensen's final remark to the previous owner being that he had ''…a rare item indeed.'' Outstanding FN FAL G-Series Semi-Auto Rifle

Lot # 270 (Sale Order: 270 of 601)

serial #G1574, 7.62 NATO, 24'' barrel including flash hider with a bright excellent bore. This gorgeous G series FAL is one of only 1,836 rifles imported from Belgium by the Browning Arms Co. between September 5, 1959 and January 10, 1963 on which day the ATF classified them as machine guns due to their ability to accept select fire components. Subsequently these rifles were exempted from the NFA by serial number with this specific rifle falling within the stated G1570-G1784 range. The metal surfaces retain 99% original Parkerized and black enamel finishes with slight silvering on the high edges of the magazine well and front of the flash hider and a few very light handling marks. The beautiful smooth European walnut buttstock and handguards rate excellent plus with perhaps a faint handling mark or two, the black polymer carry handle has a tiny and unobtrusive impact mark and the pistolgrip appears as-new. The receiver is correctly marked with ''FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE_HERSTAL BELGIQUE'' on the right side and ''F.A.L. cal. 7,62'' on the right and there are crisp Belgian proofs on the bolt, carrier and between the charging handle and carry handle cut. The left side of the lower trigger housing features ''S R A'' select fire markings and the selector is factory blocked from rotating to the automatic position. The serial number with ''G'' prefix is correctly located just ahead of the magazine well while the bolt, carrier and pistolgrip are numbered to the gun. There is moderate slot damage to the screwhead of the factory flash hider with bayonet lug and the rifle is equipped with the original carry handle, rotating sling swivels, and military sights. One factory 20-round magazine is included and the adjustable gas system and action appear to function well mechanically. This is a wonderful opportunity to own the crème de la crème of FALs rifles as it is as close to the original FN design as one can own without a Federal tax stamp. (23C9790-25) {C&R} (8,000/10,000)
