Excellent German MP40 Submachine Gun by Steyr

Lot # 201 (Sale Order: 201 of 601)

serial #3136h, 9mm, 10" barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore showing some light oxidation in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this bnz.41-coded submachine gun retain about 96-97% original blue with most of the loss due to some scattered very fine oxidation that has been lightly cleaned and is toning slightly to mild gray patina along with some scattered minor high edge wear and light handling marks. Some of the pins show some light dings or tool marks and there is a small scuff mark on the magazine release but this is very unobtrusive. Some of the oxidation left a few tiny pinprick pits. The black Bakelite barrel rest and dark brown grooved Bakelite forend and grip panels remain in excellent condition showing a few scattered light scuffs or handling marks, the forend and grip panels showing some subtle mottled patterns. All markings remain intact and strong with proper "(Eagle) / 623" Waffenamts throughout, the eagle firing proof on the barrel somewhat off-struck and the left side front of receiver and the left rear above the stock button stamped "bnz". The magazine housing is of the ribbed variety and appears to be un-numbered showing a very faint Waffenamt on the front edge, "3" on the inside front surface and "5" on the right side magazine catch. The left side of the front sight is numbered "811", the bolt is the early hooked variety, all remaining serialized parts are matching and the action seems to function well mechanically. Included with this lovely MP40 are four original 32-round magazines, an original brown leather sling in about good condition showing some mild crackling, a reproduction magazine pouch in near excellent condition and a reproduction magazine loader in excellent condition. The magazines are coded as follows: ayf 43, kur 43, bte 42 and fxo 41 and remain in very good to very good plus condition, some showing some light oxidation staining and light pitting with otherwise strong original blue and serviceable springs; also please see the extra original magazines available in the online auction. This is a wonderful example of these iconic German submachine guns; if you are looking for an MP40 it would be difficult to improve upon this one. (13G9912-1) {C&R} [Fully Transferable on ATF Form 3 or 4] {CLASS III} (20,000/30,000)

Very Fine German MG 08/15 Light Machine Gun by Spandau

Lot # 202 (Sale Order: 202 of 601)

serial #345 8d, 8mm Mauser, 28 1/4" barrel with a bright excellent bore showing some small areas of faint frosting in the grooves and otherwise strong rifling throughout. This is a very attractive 1918-dated machine gun with all matching parts including the lock components. The metal surfaces retain about 94-95% original blue with most of the loss due to the edges of the fusee spring housing on the left side toning to plum-brown patina and showing some scattered light oxidation staining and a few minor dents along with some overall mild high edge wear, a little minor freckling and handling marks. The barrel jacket shows one very shallow minor dent along the bottom and retains strong remnants of flaking original dark green paint throughout, the small locking screw for the large screw at the back of the jacket is missing but this is relatively minor. The rear sight slider and some of the other small parts all retain good bright fire blue and straw color. The original bipod retains much of its original dark green paint flaking and toning to a dark plum-brown patina showing a few light dings, mild handling marks and a crisp imperial acceptance stamp. The walnut buttstock and checkered pistolgrip are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in very good plus condition, the buttstock showing a thin 3" drying crack along either side that continue along the coarsely checkered butt, and the overall expected mild abrasions and light dings with otherwise strong imperial proofs. All markings remain completely intact and crisp and the action seems to function well mechanically. Accompanying this gun is a number of original and reproduction accessories including: original blank firing booster assembly, vent tube, one reproduction leather sling, two reproduction drums in near excellent condition (the drum bracket is not present), an original wooden drum case and wooden ammo case that rates good showing some light chipping, moderate dings and oxidation along the hardware, the ammo case painted white, an original water can painted gray that rates very good plus showing some light flaking, dings and handling marks, two reproduction combination tools and water hose connector, a spare feed block spring, an original set of cartridge case tongs that show moderate overall wear, a spare complete lock numbered "2932d" some of the smaller parts of which are mismatched and seven cloth belts of various sizes and manufacturers, a couple are full 25 0-round belts, one shows a Russian maker stamp and a couple are British. This is a wonderful ensemble for the advanced World War One collection, seldom-seen all-matching and the gun itself actually appearing to have seen very little use. (13G9912-2) {C&R} [Fully Transferable on ATF Form 3 or 4] {CLASS II I} (12,000/18,000)

German M1918 T-Gewehr Anti-Tank Rifle by Mauser, The Earliest Known Post-Kurz Example

Lot # 203 (Sale Order: 203 of 601)

serial #281, 50 BMG / 13x92mm, 39" custom 50 BMG barrel currently installed on the rifle with a bright excellent bore and the original 39" barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore showing some scattered light pitting and oxidation in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. The custom barrel of this 1918-dated rifle retains about 95% original blue showing some mild thinning to gray patina along the top of the breech, a few scattered light handling marks and minor freckles. The original barrel has mostly toned to a mottled deep gray and gunmetal patina showing a few sparsely scattered small areas of minor oxidation staining, some light pitting and scattered light handling marks with good remnants of original blue here and there. The barrel retains crisp inspector stamps and shows all matching numbers to the receiver. The receiver and bolt remain mostly bright showing some remnants of cleaned light pitting scattered along the top that is mostly smoothed-over. The large Mauser banner on the receiver ring and 1918 date remain crisp and clear as do the Imperial inspection stamps. The barrel band and triggerguard retain much of a nice quality restored blue thinning to pewter along the top of the barrel band and showing some smoothed over light pitting and strong markings. The hardwood stock and pistolgrip remain in very good plus to very fine condition showing a thin 2" drying crack and some smaller thin cracks along the butt, a few scattered shallow chips along the bottom and behind the upper tang and otherwise just some scattered light dings and handling marks one would expect. The stock retains strong markings throughout and is clearly stamp-numbered matching the receiver along the toe line also showing good inspector stamps along the right side. All of the serialized parts are matching, the action seems to function well mechanically and the custom barrel is sighted with military-style sights. The included bipod retains about 95% arsenal green paint showing some scattered tiny flakes, handling marks and the underside of the crosspiece stamped with a "(Crown) / SA". This is the earliest known T-Gewehr with the new standard longer 39" barrel. A copy of the book Das Tankgewehr Mauser M 1918 by Wolfgang Kern is included and in the author's serial number survey he notes serial #277 as a kurz model and 302 as a normal model, thus this rifle is only 3 numbers away from the latest kurz model surveyed! Another interesting note is that serial #277 is also held in the USA, converted to 50 BMG and owned by the body armor company Second Chance. Also included is a spare reproduction extractor, a reproduction ammo pouch in excellent condition and we have a few original rounds of German ammunition available in the Online Auction. A very fine example of these desirable early anti-tank rifles that can be enjoyed as-is or easily converted back into its original configuration by any competent gunsmith. Very Rare German M16 Glasvisier Bifocal Scope with Case & Accessories by Zeiss

Lot # 204 (Sale Order: 204 of 601)

serial #6106. This is a wonderful example of these interesting and desirable scopes designed to be mounted over the existing sights of a Gewehr 98 to provide a fast usabl...moree sight picture in low light conditions and other special scenarios. The scope retains about 97-98% original black enamel finish showing a few scattered small flakes and minor crazing while the spring clip retains about 95% original blue showing some scattered minor oxidation staining. The front sight with ivory triangle insert similarly retains about 98% original black enamel showing a few tiny flakes and handling marks. The sunshade is matching the body and both of these components, along with the front sight, are stamped with the Carl Zeiss Jena logo. The body is marked "2,5x" and there is a neatly etched "K" below the serial number on the sunshade. The optics are somewhat cloudy but serviceable and the flexible eyepiece has broken off, only the leather rim is included, detached. The original black leather case rates very fine showing some scattered light flaking and edge wear, minor crackling and some wear along the closure strap. All stitching and hardware remain intact, even the original chamois cloth tethered to its stud inside the lid is present showing some light fraying along the edges and overall mild staining. Finally included is the original tiny foldout instruction manual, the folds have torn and it does not appear to be complete, three separated pages are present. These interesting advanced scopes are rare enough to find with just the hardware, let alone with the original accessories. This ensemble would make an excellent addition to any advanced German martial collection. (13B7884-14BA) [Craig Brown Collection] (3000/4000)

Very Fine German K98K High Turret Sniper Rifle by Mauser

Lot # 205 (Sale Order: 205 of 601)

Description Update 11/18/2020: Internal stock number is in a smaller font than handguard number, possibly armorer stock

serial #13455f, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing two very small areas of moderate oxidation about 3" back from the muzzle with otherwise crisp rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this attractive rifle retain about 96% original blue showing some mild toning to gray-brown patina along the floorplate, a few light dings along the front band and a few errant mild brown freckles scattered about. The extractor has taken on the familiar deep plum tone and the smooth cupped buttplate is a silvery pewter patina showing some remnants of old oxidation staining scattered about. The bek-coded 4X Dialytan scope and its rings retain about 95% original blue showing some toning to gray-brown patina along the ocular bell, a few specks of light oxidation staining and minor handling marks. The scope itself is numbered "76846" and features the typical German reticle with very good plus slightly discolored optics. The smooth pistolgrip laminated hardwood stock and handguard remain in very fine condition showing a very thin 2" scratch along the right side wrist, some scattered light dings and handling marks. The stock retains a strong "(Eagle) / WaA135" on the right side butt, a more faded Waffenamt along the toe line and what appears to be a name written in ink inside the right sling cutout, unfortunately no longer legible. The stock and handguard are both numbered internally matching the receiver. All markings remain intact and strong with the left side receiver ring stamped with firing proof, serial number and "(Eagle) / 135", the left side barrel shank is stamped only with a firing proof and the right side rear sight base with "(Eagle) / 135". The floorplate and barrel bands are stamped with matching serial number, the stamped triggerguard with byf code and proper Waffenamts and the buttplate with bpr code and "(Eagle) / WaA497". The firing pin appears to be un-numbered and the remaining bolt parts including the correct milled safety are matching the receiver. The front surface of the front scope base is marked with a Mauser "RW" factory stamp, the rear base with proper "(Eagle) / 135" on the left side, the right rear edge of the tang stamped with a "U" and the front scope ring is matching the receiver. An original front sight hood and cleaning rod are included and the action seems to function well mechanically. A lovely correct and matching high turret sniper for the advanced sniper or martial collection. (13G9807-205) {C&R} [Vincent Coniglio Collection] (10,000/15,000)

Scarce German Volkssturm VK98-VG5 Bolt Action Rifle by Steyr

Lot # 206 (Sale Order: 206 of 601)

serial #4896, 8mm Mauser, 21" bnz-coded barrel with counter-bored muzzle and a partially bright very good bore showing scattered light pitting in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this bnz 45-coded rifle show light to perhaps moderate scattered buff marks along the receiver ring and length of the barrel showing remnants of Parkerized finish toning to a pale gray patina overall along with some areas of silvering and light handling marks. The rear receiver bridge retains much of its original Parkerized finish showing the familiar late-war rough machining marks and the rudimentary triggerguard is a silvery pewter patina. The receiver ring is stamped with the appropriate "bnz 45" behind the fixed rear sight, the marking somewhat off-center, and there is no visible "MOD.98" in front of the rear sight. The left side barrel shank shows an eagle firing proof, serial number and Steyr factory stamp with bnz in a shield. The bolt retains about 90% late-war dull blue showing silvering along the extractor, light operational wear, an area of silvering due to some light grinding marks ahead of the bolt handle and areas taking on a deep plum patina. The bolt handle root shows matching serial number, a firing proof on the back surface of the root and "V" on the underside and the magazine follower is coded "lxr". The remaining bolt parts are un-numbered, the body is properly lacking the guide rail and the bolt sleeve locking plunger and spring are missing or perhaps were never installed. The rudimentary smooth pistolgrip hardwood half stock remains in very good plus condition showing a couple of thin drying cracks at the toe of the butt and tip, some scattered light dings and mild abrasions. The twisted wire front sling swivel is intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. A solid example of these interesting and desirable arms that keenly demonstrate the desperate measures of late-war Germany. (13C9736-24) {C&R} (4000/6000)

All markings remain strong and the scope mount is stamped matching the rifle along with a painted "1" and a Canadian broad arrow stamp with "57". The scope features single post with crosshair reticle and very good optics that are slightly discolored but completely serviceable. The bolt and magazine are also matching the receiver and the action seems to function well mechanically. The included wooden case rates very fine retaining much of its olive drab patina showing some light flaking and exterior scuffs. The interior labels are intact and show matching numbers to the rifle and scope and the included metal scope cover is also stencil-numbered to the scope and rates near excellent retaining much of its original paint showing some minor scuffs; a pair of leather scope covers are also present and rate very good showing light staining. A very fine example of these desirable post-war British sniper rifles. (13C9807-240) {C&R} [Vincent Coniglio Collection] (4000/6000)

German K98K Claw Mount Sniper Rifle by Steyr

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 210 of 601)

serial #1175d, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this rifle retain about 92% original blue showing some sparsely scattered specks of mild oxidation staining, mild thinning along the bottom metal and scattered light handling marks. The extractor has taken on the familiar dark plum patina showing some areas of old oxidation staining and the checkered buttplate is a silvery pewter patina. The bmj-coded 4X Dialytan scope and its rings retain perhaps 60% original blue toning overall to a mild plum-brown patina and showing scattered areas of light oxidation staining and fine pinprick pitting. The alloy adjustment hardware retains 90% black enamel finish and the markings remain strong. The scope itself is numbered "75612" and features the typical German reticle and very fine optics that show the slightest hint of discoloration and a few tiny occlusions. The smooth pistolgrip laminated hardwood stock and handguard remain in very good plus condition showing a thin sliver missing at the toe along with a thin drying crack and 2 1/2" crack with sliver forming also around the toe. The stock otherwise shows just some scattered light dings and handling marks and retains a strong "(Eagle) / H" stamp along the right butt and no visible Waffenamts. The stock and handguard are both numbered internally matching the barrel. All other markings remain intact and strong, many of the smaller parts bearing "(Eagle) / 77" Waffenamts, the barrel with "(Eagle) / WaA140" and the floorplate and triggerguard with "(Eagle) / 135". The floorplate, barrel bands, rear sight parts and bolt parts are all matching the barrel. The scope bases are also matching although the rings are mismatched but numbered rather close "d / 2818" and the scope locks in securely. An original front sight hood and cleaning rod are present and the action seems to function well mechanically. While the scope is mismatched this is still a very attractive and desirable example of these distinctive Steyr-made sniper rifles. (13G9807-96) {C&R} [Vincent Coniglio Collection] (7000/9000)

Very Fine British P.14 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle by Winchester

Lot # 211 (Sale Order: 211 of 601)

serial #W216097, 303 British, 26" '17-dated barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this handsome rifle retain about 95-96% original blue showing some mild high edge wear, thinning along the bolt knob and some scattered light handling marks. The bolt body remains mostly bright showing some mild gray freckling and all markings remain intact and strong with the serial number properly stamped along the right side rear receiver (sans the "W" prefix). The scope is a correct 1918 model by Periscopic Prism Co. Ltd. and is matching the rifle. The scope body and objective bell appear to have been arsenal-refinished, retaining about 95% rust blue showing some scattered brown freckling, and some light pitting throughout the objective bell that is blued-over. A small broad arrow has been engraved atop the objective bell post-finishing and the brass fittings retain about 95% black enamel finish showing overall light flakes toning to ocher brass. The smooth walnut stock and handguards remain in very fine condition showing some scattered light dings, handling marks and a small 3/4" repaired chip at the toe that shows some cracks reforming. They retain much of their arsenal oil finish, the stock is stamp-numbered to the rifle on the bottom ahead of the forward action screw and shows strong inspector marks and crisp "(Broad Arrow) (Star) / (IW) / PATT.14" on the right side butt. The stock disc is unmarked and the front volley sight hardware is still intact. All visibly marked parts appear to be of correct Winchester manufacture, strangely the correct fine-adjustment rear sight is numbered "45475", the number having been crossed-out, and the bolt is matching the receiver. The scope features a large single post with fine crosshair and the optics remain very good and serviceable showing some scattered light flakes and very mild discoloration. There are no visible import marks and the action seems to function well mechanically. Included is an original black leather sling and leather-trimmed canvas scope case. The sling is by Sheldon & Sons Ltd. dated 1914 and rates very good plus showing some mild crackling and staining. The canvas-covered scope case with leather fittings does not appear to be maker-marked but is stencil-numbered to the gun and remains in very good condition showing some overall mild staining, some scuffs and minor crackling along the leather straps and moderate verdigris along the studs. A lovely First World War sniper for the advanced martial collection, only Winchester was contracted to produce P.14 snipers for the British military. Swiss ZFK 31/43 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle by Waffenfabrik Bern

Lot # 212 (Sale Order: 212 of 601)

serial #451969, 7.5 Swiss, 25 3/4" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this scarce rifle retain about 90% original blue with most of the loss due to overall high edge wear particularly along the scope body, a few scattered light dings and a few minor freckles here and there. The bolt remains bright showing some light handling marks along the handle, all markings remain intact and crisp and the arm does not appear to be import-marked. The 2.8 power Kern scope with folding objective and distinctive Swiss reticle shows somewhat discolored optics with a number of moderate occlusions but is certainly still serviceable. The smooth pistolgrip walnut stock and handguard remain in about very good condition showing the usual overall light dings and mild abrasions seen on Swiss rifles with generous original finish and a strong cartouche on the right butt. The serialized parts are matching, the action seems to function well mechanically and an original muzzle cover and quick detach sling swivel are included. A fine example of these interesting Swiss sniper rifles, only a couple thousand of which were manufactured. These wartime models were essentially test guns with the Swiss military settling on the heavily-modified ZF 55 for standard use post-war. (13B9807-74) {C&R} [Vincent Coniglio Collection] (4000/5000)

Merwin Hulbert & Company Large Frame Open Top Revolver

Lot # 220 (Sale Order: 220 of 601)

Description Update 11/17/2020: Caliber 44 M&H

serial #1580, 44 M&H, 7" round barrel with a very good bore. This is the open top, square butt, scooped flute version of these fine Hopkins and Allen made revolvers. The revolver is not caliber marked and shows proper Merwin, Hulbert New York barrel address with Hopkins & Allen address on left side of barrel. The revolver shows matching assembly number "841" on the barrel, cylinder, arbor, frame and in pencil on the inside of one grip panel. The condition of the revolver is quite nice with the barrel assembly retaining about 50% original nickel plated finish with the areas of loss showing a pleasing even gray patina with a few patches of light oxidation staining. The cylinder retains about 95% original nickel plated finish with most loss on leading edge where the exposed metal has turned to a rich brown patina. The frame shows 98% original nickel plated finish. All the remaining nickel has dulled slightly and has a wonderful clean antique appearance. The revolver cycles and functions crisply and the hammer shows nice original color case hardening. The mottled brown hard rubber grips rate excellent with just very light even wear and no chips or damage. Screwheads remain clean and the butt mounted lanyard loop is in place. A very fine and completely honest Merwin Hulbert & Co. large frame revolver that shows honest use. (1B9898-25) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000)

Wonderful Cased Scottish Percussion Sporting Rifle by Ancell and Salmond of Perth

Lot # 221 (Sale Order: 221 of 601)

serial #1615, .68 caliber, 30" Brunswick rifled octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore and very graceful swamped muzzle. This rifle is of extremely high quality, remains in wonderful condition and comes cased with a full complement of original accessories. The top of the barrel is engraved "Ancell & Salmond George St. Perth Makers to HRH Prince Albert" with flowing border scroll surrounding the marking. The lock has a sliding bolt to rear of hammer and shows lovely scroll engraving with tasteful border work and "Ancell & Salmond / Perth" ahead of hammer. The barrel shows a platinum band at the breech along with more lovely scroll which also extends onto the barrel tang in full coverage. The bolster is engraved with scroll and shows a platinum blow out plug. The triggerguard shows a folky game scene of two stag in a forest scene on the bow and with a lovely fancy finial to the front and full length tang which terminates at the beautifully engraved steel grip cap. The patch box has a very folky and endearing image of a walking stag engraved along with scroll and a lovely rope patterned border. The buttplate shows detailed border engraving around the engraved screwheads and the long tang is fully engraved. The condition of the rifle is just as fine as the craftsmanship. The barrel retains 95% original brown finish with beautiful contrasting damascus patten visible its entire length. The lock, tang and rebated breech show virtually all of their original color case-hardened finish which is just slightly darkened and under light shows vivid. The flat top checkered pistolgrip stock with horn forend tip is of nicely figured English walnut and rates excellent with 95% original finish remaining and showing crisp edges. There may have been a light coat of oil added at some point but the surface and appearance is superb, there are a few small and minor marks in the forend checkering. The patchbox retains a pleasing mix of faded color case-hardening and gray patina, it is completely smooth and free of any oxidation or pitting. The buttplate perhaps tells the condition story the best with over 90% bright original blue remaining overall and with areas of loss showing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The rifle is sighted with low profile blade front mounted in dovetail and a three leaf express rear, also dovetail fitted and interesting in form being completely flush with the barrel when leaves are down. The express sight is regulated for 100, 150 and 200 yards. The rifle is equipped with its original brass-tipped rosewood ramrod and sling studs. The rifle comes in its original oak casing with deluxe leather lined interior. The case houses the following accessories: rosewood cleaning rod with implements, turnscrews, nipple wrench, powder dipper, Sykes bag shaped flask, two turned rosewood cannisters, patch cutter, glass and pewter oilers, a turned bone cap cannister, original mould for belted Brunswick ball, and a number of cast projectiles. The interior of the lid retains its Ancell and Salmond makers label along with a round white Council Medal for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Ancell and Salmond were perhaps at the peak of their success around this time being granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment from Prince Albert as "Gunmaker to His Majesty" in 1847 and by 1851 when this exhibition took place his shop employed nine men. It is interesting to note that the firm built a double rifle for Prince Albert which was also Brunswick rifled, its serial number is 2039. Records for Ancell and Salmond are lost to time, this rifle likely would have had an interesting entry. A superb 19th century Scottish sporting rifle worthy of the finest antique arms collection. Fine & Scarce Bacon Navy Model Swing-Out Cylinder Revolver Formerly of the William Locke Collection

Lot # 222 (Sale Order: 222 of 601)

serial #41, 38 RF, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a mostly bright about very good plus bore showing some scattered spots of light pitting, minor frosting and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this handsome revolver retains about 85% original bright blue with most of the loss due to some overall light flaking to a pleasant gray-brown patina along with some scattered mild freckling and a very small but moderate notch cut into the top edge at the muzzle that does not impede into the bore. The cylinder and frame show some generous scattered flakes of bright blue having mostly toned to a mottled gray-brown patina with some areas of the frame more of a silvery pewter tone along with some old freckling here and there. The cylinder crane and latch retain about 95% original bright blue, the hammer shows strong vibrant case-hardened colors along the sides and the original removable ejector rod has toned to a silvery case-hardened patina. The Bacon Mfg. Co. Norwich barrel address was rather poorly struck but remains legible along with the G. W. Hopkins patent mark on the left flat and the cylinder shows a crisp Rollin White patent date. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition retaining about 95% original varnish showing a few small flakes, a number of small moderate dings along the base of the right panel and a few other light handling marks. The right panel is pencil-numbered to the gun and the barrel and cylinder are matching the frame. The action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lock-up. This is a very attractive example of these interesting and desirable revolvers, important for their innovative swing-out cylinder design. This example is pictured on page 375 of the William Locke Collection book published by Antique Armory Inc. (13B9857-8) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000)

Scarce Bacon Navy Model Single Action Revolver

Lot # 223 (Sale Order: 223 of 601)

serial #59, 38 RF, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with an about good bore showing some moderate scattered pitting and oxidation with otherwise strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have mostly toned to a pleasant mix of pewter-gunmetal and mild gray-brown patina showing some remnants of light pitting around the breech and front of cylinder, a few light dings along the base pin and some scattered thin streaks of original bright blue along the barrel, quite strong around the front sight. The sides of the frame are factory embellished with some tasteful light foliate scrollwork and the sides of the hammer show faint smoky remnants of color case-hardening. The top barrel flat shows a strong small font Bacon Mfg. Co. address and the cylinder is not marked with the Rollin White patent date. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus to very fine condition showing a few scattered light dings more noticeable nearer the base of the right panel, somewhat worn finish and a small "H" on the base of each panel. The right panel is pencil-numbered to the gun and the remaining serialized parts are matching. This is the first type variation with hinged lever base pin assembly and cylinder that needs to be removed for loading and unloading. The action seems to function well mechanically with excellent timing and lock-up. A fine example of these interesting low-production revolvers, one of the many designs felled by Smith & Wesson's Rollin White patent. (13B9857-9) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500)

Rare Remington Zig-Zag Deringer

Lot # 224 (Sale Order: 224 of 601)

serial #732, 22 RF, 3 3/16" barrel cluster with good bores showing scattered old pitting and oxidation with strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces have mostly toned to a silvery pewter patina showing some areas of pale brown undertones, a few areas of mostly smoothed-over old pitting along the barrels and some finer scattered unobtrusive pinprick pits. The frame shows a few flakes of tarnished silver plating lurking about the very protected areas and beneath the grip panels. The left arch of the rear sight at the top back of the frame has broken off, it is a very thin portion about 3/16" in length. The right side of the frame retains a completely intact and strong Remingtons Ilion address and the left side shows nice Elliot patent dates. The smooth black gutta-percha grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in very fine to near excellent condition showing a few tiny dings around the edges and some mild handling marks. All six of the small German silver post front sights are intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. This is a fine example of these peculiar and desirable Remington pistols, less than 1000 of which were made from about 1861-1862. (13B9857-29) {ANTIQUE} (3000/5000)

U.S. Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver

Lot # 225 (Sale Order: 225 of 601)

serial #6826, 44 cal., 7 1/2" part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This revolver shows matching numbers on the barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder, arbor, triggerguard and backstrap. The wedge appears to be a Colt wedge but it is unnumbered and the backstrap channel of grip has faint pencil writing which is not decipherable. The barrel bears the proper New York address and the cylinder shows the desirable "U.S. DRAGOONS" marking and the scene is about 90% visible. The left side of the frame is marked "COLT'S / PATENT / U.S." and the revolver shows sub-inspector initials "N" on loading lever, "A" and "K" on triggerguard, "K" on cylinder and "B" on top of backstrap. This revolver shows no finish but is very crisp with all markings being clear and legible and with metal surfaces remaining quite smooth with just a couple patches of light pitting on one area of the cylinder. The metal surfaces bear a pleasing light to medium gray patina overall with all edges sharp. The gripstraps bear a pleasing rich patina and the one-piece walnut grip rates very good with good visible cartouches on each side along with sub-inspectors initial "B" in butt. The grips fit nicely and show some thin original finish and smooth surfaces. This is a very crisp First Model Dragoon, far better than average and remains a wonderful reference piece with clean markings and edges.
