A CAUCASIAN QADDARA SWORD

Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 151 of 540)

A rare example of a weapon typically found in the Transcaucasus and northern Iran. With a large, well-profiled kindjal-type horn grips mounted in silver. The blade of unusual length, similar in cross-section to Georgian saber blades; single-edged, with an acutely-pointed tip, and fullering along the spine. Struck at the right forte with a maker’s mark in the form of a six-petaled flower. Mid-19th century. Its design suggests it was used in place of the saber, probably for close fighting by infantrymen. Overall length 65.2 cm. Condition II
