Factory Engraved T.J. Stafford Single Shot Derringer, #1243, .22 RF cal., 3-1/2'' blue barrel, lightly scroll engraved brass frame flats and backstrap, varnished walnut grips. Dating from the early 1860s and considered scarce with just over 2,000 mfg'd. Condition is good to very good. Barrel retains approx. 40% thinning and toning blue. Brass with light to just moderate thinning and smoothing, but engraving remains deep and crisp. Grips with additional coat of varnish; right panel with three small notches. Barrel lockup is somewhat loose and could use a little tightening. Hammer functions correctly. Bore is dark. Est.: $400-$650. (Antique)...more

Cartridge Conv. to Colt 3rd Model Dragoon

Lot # 53 (Sale Order: 53 of 779)      

Cartridge Conversion to Colt 3rd Model Dragoon, #16921, .44 cal., 6'' shortened barrel with brass dovetail front sight, originally with blue and case hardened finish, iron backstrap and brass triggerguard, and originally cut for shoulder stock, with U.S. markings under Colt's Patent. Condition is good as modified with moderate to dark overall patina, showing very light traces of finish to frame. All visible matching numbers, with unmarked wedge. Grips are very good with just light nicks and scuffs, with oil darkening along backstrap and very light losses at edges. One of the internal frame-to-barrel locating pins is missing, but remains very solid with a good action and fair bore. Similar to known Mormon converted examples found in Utah in the 1870s-1880s. Rare Colt 1851 Navy Dbl Pat. Conv. Revolver

Lot # 54 (Sale Order: 54 of 779)      

Rare Colt 1851 Navy Double Patent Stamped Conversion Revolver, #59545, .38 CF cal., 7-1/2'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, one-piece walnut grips. Marked with the double patent marks over U.S. markings. A similar revolver is pictured on page 226 of '''51 Colt Navies'', by Nathan L. Swayze. The top patent number is for C.B. Richards's first patent; the bottom patent number is for William Mason's patent. This type of Colt is known as a ''Navy-Navy'' conversion and are seldom seen, with probably less than 500 converted. Cylinder shows a niter-type blue refinish after conversion. Triggerguard and backstrap serial numbers are etched but not stamped. Probably converted at the Brooklyn Shipyards in the early 1870s. Condition is excellent. Barrel assembly retains approx. 60% thinning blue; cyoinder with 94%. Light cases colors to frame and recoil shield. Brass with even patina. Condition is very good with small ''H'' and ''M'' sub-inspector marks. Partially visible naval engagement scene on cylinder. Revolver retains approx. 30% thinning and toning blue. All matching visible numbers including wedge. Grips with knackering at butt and minor repair at left toe, but clear cartouches to both sides. Very similar to those pictured on page 40 of E. Scott Meadow's excellent reference ''U.S. Military Holsters and Pistol Cartridge Boxes''. Condition is excellent. Colt House Model Spurtrigger Revolver, #8487, .41 RF cal., 2-1/2'' barrel, brass frame, with walnut bird's head grips. Mfg'd 1875. Top of barrel marked ''Colt's House Pistol/Hartford, CT. USA''. Sighting groove in frame marked ''Pat. Sep. 19, 1871''. Caliber designation above and forward the trigger on left side. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 85% thinning original factory blue to barrel and cylinder. Hammer shows 92%+ muted niter-blue with thinning in actioning areas. Screw heads have mostly gone bright. Brass with light patina and crisp edges. Sideplate fits tightly and is lightly marked ''45'' just forward of hammer screw. Grips with very light pressure dings and thinning to varnish at high edges. Action is tight and crisp, bore is excellent, with minor deformation to knurling on cylinder arbor. U.S. Marked Springfield Model 1795 Flintlock Musket, NVSN, .69 cal., 44-1/2'' barrel, three barrel bands retained by springs, buttplate and lock dated 1806, ''Springfield'' in a curved arch behind cock, ''US'' in script over Federal eagle. Finished in the white, with full-length walnut stock, large ''C'' stamped at top of barrel when weapons were deaccessioned from the U.S. Gov't. With original bayonet. Condition is fine to near excellent with light to moderate toning to bright finished barrel, bands, lock and buttplate. Wood stock shows just light nicks and scuffs. Musket with Virginia made features such as flat faced gooseneck hammer, curl toe at frizzen, integral flashpan, and long finialed triggerguard ends. Possible regimental markings to top of barrel. Condition is very good with overall brown patina to barrel and bands. Erosion near flash hole, area to lock beneath pan with some corrosion, making ''Virginia'' somewhat difficult to read. U.S. Model 1814 Flintlock Rifle, by H. Deringer, Phila., PA, .54 cal., 33-1/2'' barrel, lock marked ''H. Deringer/Philada'', with similar markings to top of barrel just forward of frizzen, and named to individual soldier just forward of rear sight, ''G. Hay 1R, 1st B 4th D''. George Hay was a member of the 8th Co., 5th Battalion, Phila. Militia, 1785. He was later commissioned to 2nd Lieut. in the 2nd Co. 1st Rg. of the York County Militia in 1794. He became a Colonel of the 94th Reg. of PA Militia in Oct. 1814. His son, Geo. Hay Jr., became a Colonel of the 87th PA Vol. Infantry during the Civil War. Condition is about fine. Percussion Double Barrel Market Shotgun, by John Krider, 28'' barrels, sideplates, hammer, triggerguard and buttplate are lightly engraved and marked ''John Krider''; barrel flat engraved ''Philadelphia''. John Krider mfg'd all types of firearms from 1826-1876 and was an agent for a wide range of firearms. He was also well represented at the Philadelphia Exposition of both 1864 and 1876. Condition is about fine with trace case colors to lockplate and hammers. Barrels have toned brown. Checkering shows only the slightest flattening with a very small repair at toe of stock.
