Whitney 1861 Navy Percussion Plymouth Rifle 

Lot # 304 (Sale Order: 301 of 698)      

.69 caliber, 33" round barrel, numbered 8855 on the upper tang. The barrel is dated 1864 on the upper flat, and is marked with a VP and eagle head, and is stamped F.C.W. on the side flat. The barrel has a bayonet lug on the right side, and has a 1,000 yard leaf type rear sight. The lock is marked with an eagle over U.S. and is also marked Whitney-Ville and dated 1864 at the rear. There is an F.C.W. inspector's cartouche opposite of the lock. The stock has a large pierce tipped steel ramrod, two barrel bands, two sling swivels, a finger spur trigger guard and a U.S. marked buttplate. 

Condition: All metal parts are finished bright and shiny. The stock has one or two nicks and dings, but is in otherwise very good condition with clear marks. The bore and mechanics are excellent.

U.S. Civil War Lindner Carbine, First Type 

Lot # 305 (Sale Order: 302 of 698)      

.58 caliber, 20" barrel. The lockplate is unmarked, with the breechblock marked Edward Lindner's Patent, March 29, 1859. With rear sight behind breechblock and saddle ring opposite the lock plate. Walnut stock with cartouche marked on the top flat of the butt. 

Condition: The barrel has a mottled silver patina, with dark patches throughout. The lockplate and breechblock are finished bright. The hammer and trigger guard have some mottling. The stock has some wear consistent with use, along with some pock marks near the fore end cap. The cartouche is crisp and in good condition. The bore could use a cleaning, but is in good overall condition.

U.S. Whitney Model 1841 Percussion Rifle With Colt Factory Alteration 

Lot # 306 (Sale Order: 303 of 698)      

.550 bore diameter smoothbore, 33" round barrel. With Colt bayonet lug numbered 9114. Barrel marked with VP and US, with Steel  marked on the left side of the barrel. The lockplate is marked E. Whitney U.S., and at the rear N. Haven 1851. With brass barrel bands, trigger guard, patchbox and buttplate. With inspector's cartouche marked opposite the lockplate. The barrel is also marked with the initials S.K. Walnut stock with brass tipped ramrod. The buttplate is marked U.S. and 9

Condition: The barrel has an even dark patina. The lock and hammer have a dark mottled patina. All brass parts with a bright mustard patina. The stock has a small age crack extending from the bottom of the lock towards the middle of the trigger guard. There is also another crack near the top screw on the sideplate. The bore is in good condition, but could use a cleaning.

U.S. Civil War Gibbs Carbine

.52 caliber, 22" barrel. Marked B on the breech of the barrel. Breech marked L.H. Gibbs Pat'd Jany 8, 1856. The lock is marked Wm F Brooks Manf'd New York. Walnut stock with US marked buttplate, saddle bar and ring and an inspector's cartouche marked on the butt. 

Condition: The barrel has a dark patina with brown streaks. The breech, lock and trigger guard/lever have a dark mottled patina, with only a trace of the case coloring remaining. The stock has several dings and shows signs of use. The bore is good, but needs to be cleaned.

Smith Civil War Carbine 

Lot # 308 (Sale Order: 305 of 698)      

.50 caliber, 21 5/8" barrel, S/N 125. The left side of the barrel is marked with a B. The left side of the breech is marked Manufactured by Am'n M'ch'n Wks Springfield Mass and Address Poultney & Trimble Baltimore U.S.A. and Smith's Patent June 23 1857. Blue finished barrel with case hardened breech. Walnut stock and forearm, with the stock stamped GP behind the breech, and B on the top of the butt. 

Condition: The barrel has almost all of its original blue finish remaining, in very good to excellent condition. The breech has strong case coloring remaining. The stock and forearm have some slight dings but are in good to very good condition. The bore is in very good condition.

US Civil War 2nd Model Maynard Carbine 

Lot # 309 (Sale Order: 306 of 698)      

.50 caliber, 22" octagonal-to-round barrel length, S/N 12936.  Markings on the right side of the frame Manufactured by over Mass Arms Co over Chicopee Falls.  Barrel is marked G.W.S. on the left side.  Blue barrel with case color frame and walnut stock. Left side of stock has 2 cartouches on the wrist. 

Condition: Retains most of its original blue finish on the barrel.  The frame has a plum patina.  Walnut stock is good with nicks and dings consistent with age and use.  Bore is good but does have some pitting.

Condition: The barrel has a bluish plum patina, with some scuffs towards the muzzle. The frame has some case coloring remaining, with a few stains. The stock has two age cracks extending from either side of the rear of the frame. The bore is in good condition.

.54 caliber, 20.75" barrel, S/N 865. With matching numbers on all visible parts. Top of breech marked A.D. Perry Patented and Perry patent Arm Newark, N.J. Walnut stock and forearm. The left of the stock features a Brass plaque that reads No. 289 Class 8 Perry Carbine. 

Condition: All metal parts have a bright and shiny patina, with flecks of brown throughout. The stock and forearm have some small signs of use, otherwise they are in good condition. The bore is in good condition and could use a light cleaning.

Joslyn Model 1862 Carbine 

Lot # 312 (Sale Order: 309 of 698)      

.52 rimfire caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 2743. Matching numbers throughout. Top of breechblock marked B.F. Joslyn's Patent October 8th 1861 June 24th 1862. The lockplate is marked Joslyn Fire Arms Co. Stonington Conn. The breechblock has the pull out knob latch. Walnut stock with brass barrel band, trigger guard and buttplate. Marked on the barrel with F.D.L. and on the stock above the saddle bar in two cartouches. 

Condition: The barrel has a mottled grey patina with very light traces of the original blue finish. The lockplate has some light peppering. The stock has what appears to be a very small age crack near the rear of the upper tang. The bore is in good condition.

.56-50 Spencer caliber, 20" barrel, S/N 2701. Left side of frame marked Greene Rifle Works Worcester Mass. Pat Feb 1864, behind the saddle bar. With brass frame, breechblock, trigger guard and buttplate. The barrel is stamped with British proof marks, along with a crown over V on the barrel and frame. With walnut stock and forearm. 

Condition: The barrel has some pitting throughout, with a dark grey patina. All the brass components have a dark mustard patina. The wood has some nicks and dings, but is in good condition. The bore is in very good condition.

Condition: The barrel has a mottled grey and plum patina. The frame has a gunmetal patina with light pitting throughout. The stock has some slight dings throughout, along with a repair to high right edge. The bore is in good condition.

.44 caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 3385. Top flat of barrel marked F. Wesson's Patent Oct. 25 1859 & Nov. 11 1862 and B. Kittredge & Co. Cincinnati O. With slotted link on the right side of the frame, with patent dates. 

Condition: The barrel has an even blue, with light fading. The frame has a mottled dark blue and grey patina, with a lot of the original blue still remaining. The stock has some slight nicks and dings, but is in good overall condition. The sling swivel on the barrel is missing. The bore is in very good condition.

.56-50 Spencer, 19.25" round barrel in good blued finish, no visible S/N. Receiver, lock plate, lever and buttplate retain most of the case colors. Marked on the left side with a five-line Peabody patents and address. Action functions properly.  Single-band walnut forearm and buttstock with saddle ring. "WC" cartouche on the wrist and a cross behind the breech. 

Condition: Excellent. Bright bore with strong rifling.

.50 caliber, 32.5" barrel, S/N 33430. Marked Model 1865 at breech, along with company name, address and patent dates. Walnut stock with two barrel bands, sling swivels, slotted head ramrod and saddle bar and ring. Stock marked with an inspector's cartouche behind the saddle bar. 

Condition: The barrel has a dark grey and plum patina. The frame, lock and hammer all have a dark gunmetal patina with some darker spotting throughout. The stock has some nicks and dings, along with a crack/repair to the bottom toe of the butt. The bore is in good condition

Sharps Model 1867 Carbine 

Lot # 318 (Sale Order: 315 of 698)      

.50-70 caliber, 22" round barrel, S/N C,10451. The Sharp's Patent markings are present but worn on either side of the frame. With saddle ring and bar opposite the lock. There is a brass plaque with a 12 embedded into the left side of the butt. Walnut stock and forearm. 

Condition: Barrel retains most of the original blue finish slightly dulling with some brown speckling and light pitting.  Frame is very sharp and crisp with some brown staining. Stock and forearm with nice feather-grained wood.  Wood still retains dark patina.  The toe of the stock has a small hole, perhaps for a sling swivel. Bore is very good.

.52 rimfire caliber, 21" barrel, S/N 11406. Both the barrel and the lock are marked Starr Arms Co. Yonkers N.Y. Behind the breech is marked Starr's Patent Sept 14th 1858. The ring forward of the breech is marked 1 ARK D, and is stamped with the initials HGS. Walnut stock and forearm with brass barrel band and buttplate. With sling ring on the left side of the frame. The top flat of the stock is stamped F.E.W. (the first letter is partially obscured) and the top of the buttplate is marked B

Condition: The barrel has a mottled grey patina, fading to a dark plum towards the receiver. The frame has a grayish silver patina with some staining. The stock has some nicks and digs, but is in good overall condition. The bore is in good overall condition and could benefit from a light cleaning.

Sharps Martial Marked Model 1855 U.S. Army Carbine 

Lot # 320 (Sale Order: 317 of 698)      

.52 caliber, 21.75" barrel, S/N 19185. The barrel is marked Sharps Rifle Manufg. Co. Hartford Conn., with a faded U.S. over inspector's initials J.H. marked near the breech. The tape primer cover is marked Edward Maynard Patentee 1845. The tang is marked Sharps Patent 1848. Walnut stock and forearm, with brass barrel band, patchbox and buttplate. 

Condition: The barrel has a mostly dark plum patina, with small patches fading to gray. The frame, hammer, lever, lock, breechblock and primer cover all have a dark plum patina, with some areas of gray. Markings on the barrel and primer cover are slightly worn, with the exception of the inspector's initials J.H. The saddle bar and ring are missing from the frame/bar mount. The stock has some nicks and dings, with a small area of loss near the upper tang on the top left. The forearm has a slight age crack extending from the rear screw towards the frame. The bore is in good condition and will clean to very good. The mechanics are very good.

Condition: The barrel has an even dark plum patina. The frame has some case coloring remaining, with the rest having a mottled gray patina. The stock and forearm have several areas consistent with use. There is a hand-carved portion on the left side of the butt. The bore is in good condition.

.54 caliber, 24.25" barrel. Top flat of barrel marked W. Jenks and U.S.N./RP/P/1847/Cast-Steel. The lockplate is marked Remington's Herkimer N.Y. Walnut stock with brass barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate. With RP cartouche opposite of the lock. 

Condition: The barrel has a beautiful, even brown finish. The lock and the loading lever have some case hardening remaining with light streaking. All of the brass has a bright and shiny patina. The stock has one or two nicks and dings, but is in good overall condition. The bore is in excellent condition.

Burnside Civil War Carbine, Fifth Model

.54 caliber, 21" barrel, S/N 15946. The barrel is marked Cast Steel 1864 and B. The top of the frame is marked Burnisde's Patent Model of 1864. The lockplate is marked Burnside Rifle Co. Providence R.I. Walnut stock and forearm with case hardened buttplate. Marked with an inspector's cartouche on the left side of the stock behind the saddle bar, and N.S.P. on the top comb. 

Condition: The barrel has a nice even dull blue patina throughout. The top of the breech, the breech lever and both tangs have a bright blue finish, with light wear on the lever. The frame, hammer and lever have a light gray patina, with some traces of case coloring remaining. The buttplate has bright case colors, and is in very good condition. The walnut stock has some light handling marks but is in good overall condition. The bore is in very good condition.

Condition: The finish on the barrel is in very good condition, with the original blue finish consistent throughout. Some light case coloring remaining on the saddle bar. The stock is in good condition. The bore is in very good condition.

.52 rimfire caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 2504. Matching serial numbers on the barrel and frame. Left side of frame marked Sharp's Patent 1859. The right side is marked Sharps & Hankins Philada. Walnut stock with brass buttplate. 

Condition: The barrel and frame appear to have an old re-finish, with the blue in good condition. The stock is in very good condition. A spring in the rear sight is not present. The bore is in very good condition.

Sharps New Model 1859 Navy Carbine 

Lot # 327 (Sale Order: 323 of 698)      

.52 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 43303. Barrel marked with company name and address forward of the sight, and marked New Model 1859 forward of the breech. Left side of receiver marked C. Sharps Pat. Sept. 12th 1848. The right side is marked above the hammer R.S. Lawrence Pat. April 12th 1859, and in the center of the lock C. Sharps Pat. Oct. 5th 1852. Walnut stock and forearm with iron furniture and Iron patchbox. The stock is not fitted with a saddle bar and ring. 

Condition: The barrel has a dark mottled patina, with some traces of blue in protected areas. The frame, lock and hammer have a dark mottled gray patina. The stock has several areas of wear, mostly along the left side of the stock and on the high edges. The bore is in very good condition.

Scarce W.L. Hudson, Cincinnati, Ohio, Civil War Percussion Turner-Bahn Frei Rifle 

Lot # 328 (Sale Order: 324 of 698)      

.44 caliber, 30.5" octagonal barrel length with bayonet lug, no S/N. Marking on lock W.L. Hudson over Maker over Cin. O. Brown finish with case colored lock. Proud full walnut stock has original four German silver wedge escutcheons.  Stock retains the original swivels and its rare numbered "door knob" ramrod.  Double set triggers.  The Turner Civil War militia-type units were armed to guard against Confederate raiders such as John Hunt Morgan. 

Condition: Retains traces of original browning that is smooth with sharp corners.  Lock and breech have traces of bright and light case colors respectively.  Bore is brilliant and mechanically excellent with double set triggers.

Remington Single Shot Breech-Loading Carbine, Type II

.50 rimfire caliber, 20" barrel, S/N 3042. Barrel marked JT over SP (obscured by barrel band). The upper tang is marked with Remington's name, address and patent dates. Walnut stock and forearm with US marked buttplate. Saddle bar and ring on the left side of the frame. Sling swivels fitted on the buttstock and barrel band. 

Condition: The barrel and frame have a dark patina with some grey mottling. The stock has some lightly carved geometric shapes on either side. Some gouges have been filled in on the stock, and the area around the forearm screw housing has been repaired. The stock and forearm both have some dings. The bore is in very good condition and could use a light cleaning.
