Evans Transition Model Carbine 

Lot # 380 (Sale Order: 376 of 698)      

.44 Evans centerfire caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 487. The barrel is marked Evans Repeating Rifle Pat. Dec. 8, 1868 & Sept. 16, 1871. Fore end fastened by a proof -marked barrel band with a sling swivel. 

Condition: The barrel and frame have a dark brownish plum patina throughout. The lower and upper buttstocks and fore end are in good condition, with minimal signs of use. The locking mechanism behind the lever is missing. The bore is in good condition and could use a light cleaning.

Springfield Hotchkiss Second Model Carbine 

Lot # 381 (Sale Order: 377 of 698)      

.45-70 caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 6550. The barrel is marked US and VP with an eagle head. The left side of the receiver is marked with the Winchester name, address and patent dates. The receiver has an inspector's marking HN. With rear military sight marked HC. The stock is marked with a circle P firing proof behind the triggerguard, and a SWP 1881 cartouche on the left side of the buttstock. Stock with saddle ring and nickeled fore end tip with hinged door covering the hinged cleaning rod compartment. 

Condition: The barrel has a dark plum patina, fading to a mottling at the receiver. The stock has some nicks and dings, and the markings are crisp and present. The nickel on the fore end cap is mostly present, but worn on some edges. The bore is in good condition, and could use a light cleaning. The cleaning rod compartment is empty.

U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Ward-Burton Carbine 

Lot # 382 (Sale Order: 378 of 698)      

.50 centerfire caliber, 22" barrel. Left side of breech marked U.S. Springfield 1871 with an eagle motif. Top of bolt marked Ward Burton Patent Dec. 20 1859-Feb. 21, 1871. Walnut stock with large inspector cartouche behind saddle bar, and smaller one at the rear of the saddle bar, with firing proof behind trigger guard. 

Condition: The barrel has a bright finish, with some original finish near the breech. The receiver also has a bright finish, with some light traces of the blackened finish remaining. The stock has some slight nicks and dings but is in very good overall condition. The bore is in very good condition.

U.S. Springfield Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Rifle 

Lot # 383 (Sale Order: 379 of 698)      

.45-70 centerfire caliber, 27 7/8" barrel. Barrel marked with a VP and eagle head, along with a stamped R. The receiver reads U.S. Springfield 1884. Walnut stock with correct cleaning rod, sling swivels (with leather sling) and buttplate with cartridge feed compartment. The stock has an SWP 1884 cartouche on the butt, and a circle P firing proof behind the triggerguard. 

Condition: The barrel has an even blue finish with light fading where a bayonet once was fixed to the front. The receiver has traces of blue fading to an even gray patina. The stock and bore are in very good condition. The leather shows normal wear for its age.

.45 caliber, 7.5" barrel, S/N 2697. Blued and case hardened finish. Wood grips, no visible cartouches on grips. Italic barrel address; Ainsworth inspected. 

Condition: This desirable early U.S. cavalry Colt single action revolver is in overall very good condition displaying a dark patina on metal surfaces. The numbers are matching on the frame, cylinder, barrel, trigger guard and backstrap. The action is crisp, the markings good and the bore good overall. The grips are good to very good with wear and scattered old mars and scratches.

Colt U.S. Artillery Single Action Army Used During the Filming of the "Range Rider" 

Lot # 385 (Sale Order: 381 of 698)      

Colt U.S. artillery single action Army revolver used by TV actor Jock Mahoney during the filming of the 1950’s series “The Range Rider.”

.45 caliber, 5.5” barrel, S/N 138292. Re-blued finish, stag grips, two-line patent address, “US” marking on left side of frame.

Accompanied by a hand printed note on “From the desk of Dick Jones” letterhead stating:

“This 45 caliber single action revolver, serial number 138292, was given to me by my TV partner, Jock Mahoney in 1953. “Jocko” used this Peacemaker during the filming of our TV Western series, the Range Rider, which aired in 1951-1954. (Signed) Dick Jones 12-04-08”.

Dick Jones was a star during the heyday of the TV Western, appearing not only in “The Range Rider,” but also performing as the lead in the series “Buffalo Bill Jr.” In addition to the provenance letter, included in this lot is a publicity photo of actors Jock Mahoney and Dick Jones, in Western garb, astride their faithful steeds. Mahoney is wearing a single action Army revolver that possibly may be the revolver in this lot. 

Condition: This gun is in overall good to very good condition as re-blued. Its action is crisp, the markings are overall good and the bore is very good. The older non-factory stag grips are very good, displaying a pleasing yellow patina and fit this revolver nicely.

Model 1892 Second Pattern Krag Rifle 

Lot # 386 (Sale Order: 382 of 698)      

.30-40 Krag cal., 29.25" round barrel in dark graying finish, S/N 5077. Receiver retains much of the case color finish, side marked "U.S. / 1894 / SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." Bolt body bright with age spots, handle gray.  Walnut stock has been cleaned, crisp cartouche dated "1894;" circle "P" under the wrist. Initials "J.K." carved on the top of the butt comb.  Complete with cleaning rod and brass muzzle cover. 

Condition: Good. Bore good with small spots of light oxidation. Strong rifling.

**Model 1899 Krag Carbine 

Lot # 387 (Sale Order: 383 of 698)      

30-40 caliber, 22" barrel, S/N 350212. Receiver marked U.S. Model 1899.  Springfield Armory. Walnut stock with inspector cartouche dated 1907, and with firing proof behind trigger guard. 

Condition: The barrel has almost all of its original blue finish remaining, with a small area of fading near the barrel band. The loading gate and receiver have almost all of their original blue finish, with some light fading on the receiver. The stock has some slight nicks and dings, along with some staining to the finish on the butt, but is in very good overall condition. The compartment in the buttplate is empty. The bore is in very good condition.

U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Rolling Block Army Rifle 

Lot # 388 (Sale Order: 384 of 698)      

.50 centerfire caliber, 36" round barrel. The right side of the frame is marked with an eagle motif over U.S. Springfield 1872. The opposite side is marked Model 1871. The upper tang is marked Remington's Patent with dates. Walnut stock with U.S. marked buttplate, two barrel bands and correct cleaning rod. The wrist of the stock has an inspector's cartouche, and there is a square firing proof behind the trigger guard. Includes a period leather sling. 

Condition: The barrel has a mottled grey, brown and plum patina. The frame has a dark brown and plum patina with case coloring showing through. The stock is in very good to excellent condition with a crisp cartouche. Excellent bore and mechanics.

.45-70 caliber, 32.5" barrel, S/N 9405. The barrel is marked U.S. and VP. Marked at the breech Lee Arms Co. Birdgeport Conn. U.S.A. Patented Nov. 4 1879 and E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A. Sole Manufacturers And Agents. Also marked U.S. Inspector marked D.F.C. on the barrel, breech and on the underside of the stock and above the firing proof mark. Walnut stock with two barrel bands and slotted ramrod.

Condition: The barrel retains some of its original blue finish, fading to a dark plum. The breech retains most of its finish, with light fading. The stock has some handling marks, but is in good overall condition. The bore is in very good to excellent condition.

U.S. Springfield Model 1865 Rifle With First Allin Alteration 

Lot # 390 (Sale Order: 386 of 698)      

.58 rimfire caliber, 40" barrel. The remnants of an eagle head and 4 date remain on the rear of the barrel. The lock is marked U.S. Springfield, with an eagle motif ahead of the hammer, and dated 1865 at the rear. An ESA inspector cartouche appears near the lock screw opposite the plate. Walnut stock with three barrel bands, sling swivels, tulip headed rod with swelled shank and U.S. marked buttplate. 

Condition: The barrel has a dark plum and gray mottled patina, with splotches of blue finish. The breechblock, lock and hammer all have a dark gunmetal patina. The stock has some nicks and dings, but is in good condition. The bore and mechanics are excellent.

Blakeslee's Cartridge Box 

Lot # 391 (Sale Order: 387 of 698)      

12" x 4" x 3" dark brown leather covered hexagonal tin case with wooden insert drilled to hold ten cartridge magazine tubes, all present.  Obverse marked "BLAKESLEE'S CARTRIDGE BOX / U.S. / PAT'D DEC. 20, 1864 / E. GAYLORD / CHICOPEE / MASS.;" reverse belt tab stamped with a sub inspector's mark.  Retains a brass sling loop on the lower front. Leather cover present broken at the hinge, lacking closure tab and side sling loop.  The Blakeslee box was designed to service the Spencer rifle and carbine. 

Condition: Good. Minor edge wear from service. Broken or missing pieces as noted above.

.50 centerfire caliber, 32 5/8" barrel. Top of barrel stamped with a Naval anchor, with the side stamped P over H.B.R. The right side of the frame is marked with an eagle motif and USN Springfield 1870. Remington patent dates marked on the upper tang. Walnut stock with slotted and knurled cleaning rod, two barrel bands, sling swivels and US marked buttplate. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped 68

Condition: The barrel has traces of blue finish throughout is flecks, fading to a grey.The frame has a mottled gray patina. The stock has some nicks and dings, along with a crack repaired with pins on the top and bottom tang on the right side. The bore is in good condition.

Model 1870 Springfield Altered Sharps Rifle With Bayonet 

Lot # 393 (Sale Order: 389 of 698)      

50-70 centerfire caliber, 35" barrel, S/N C,35842. Left side of frame marked F and C. Sharps Pat. Sept. 12th 1848. The right side is marked R.S. Lawrence Pat. April 12th 1859 and C. Sharps Pat. Oct. 5th 1852. The serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel and on the upper tang. Stock with two barrel bands and has slotted iron ramrod. The left side of the stock has an inspector's cartouche. Includes bayonet marked A and S.  

Condition: The barrel has a bright silver patina with brown flecks throughout. The frame, breechblock, hammer and lock have a dull silver patina, with some light traces of case coloring remaining in protected areas. The stock has several minor nicks and dings. The upper tang has a slight crack extending through the top screw. The bore is in good condition and could use a cleaning.

Colt Single Action Army Revolver In Original Leather Rig

.45 LC caliber, 7.5" round barrel with early Italicized single line markings, S/N 16611. Original ivory grips. Included factory letter reads: 45C, barrel not listed, stocks not listed.  Shipped  to Meyer & Geiger, Omaha, Nebraska.  Comes with old leather holster. 

Condition: Revolver has nice sharp lines with good markings, and an even gunmetal patina throughout.  Ivory grips show wear around the bottom edge with some age cracks.  Holster is very good.  This Colt certainly has nice Western flavor by being ship to Omaha in 1875.

.44-40 caliber, 4.75" round barrel, S/N 98912. Etched panel on the left side of barrel Colt Frontier Six Shooter; caliber 44 C.F. marked on the left side of trigger guard.  Two-line barrel address, three-line patent markings.  Nickel finish with one-piece walnut grips.  In a nice old period leather holster and belt. With factory letter. 

Condition: Revolver retains some of the original nickel finish on the frame.  Cylinder has traces of nickel finish.  Mostly flaking.  Grips are excellent showing some of the original varnish finish.  Leather holster is very good.  Overall shows even use and a nice cowboy look.

Engraved Model 1860 Percussion Revolver 

Lot # 398 (Sale Order: 394 of 698)      

.44 caliber, 8" round barrel length, S/N 163307 (ca. 1867). Single-line New York Colt address marked on top of the barrel.  Left side of frame marked "Colts Patent" and trigger guard marked ".44 Cal."  Large open scroll engraving on the barrel, cylinder, frame, back strap, trigger and trigger guard.  Blue finish with case color frame.  Brass trigger guard and ivory grips. 

Condition: Hints of blue finish blending to a plum patina on the barrel and lever. The cylinder has some areas of blue blending to a patina.  The frame and hammer have subtle hints of case color blending with a gray patina.  The brass trigger guard has a mustard patina.  The ivory grips are good, showing age with a yellowing patina.  The bore is good and can clean to better.  Mechanically very good.

Colt Model 1860 Civilian Percussion Revolver

.44 caliber, 8" round barrel length, S/N 159566. Single-line New York barrel address on top of the barrel.  Frame is marked on left side "Colt's Patent" and trigger guard is marked ".44 Cal."  Rolled naval battle scene on the cylinder.  Blue finish on the barrel with case colored loading lever, frame and hammer. Iron back strap with brass trigger guard.  Ivory grips. 

Condition: The barrel retains some of the blue finish blending with a gray patina. Some salt and pepper pitting near the muzzle.  The loading lever, frame and hammer have traces of case color mixing to a gray patina.  The back strap has a gray to dark patina.  Trigger guard has a mustard patina.  Ivory grips have a pleasant yellowing patina. The markings are visible.  Bore is very good.  Mechanically very good.

Single-line Colt New York address on top of the barrel.  Left side of the frame marked "Colts Patent U.S." "M" marked on trigger guard.   Six-shot cylinder.  Case colored frame, lever and hammer.  Blue barrel with brass trigger guard and one-piece walnut grips.  Cut for shoulder stock. 

Condition: Very sharp and crisp gray gun with very fine salt and pepper pitting on the barrel, frame and cylinder.  The markings are sharp and crisp.  The grips are good with nicks and dings consistent with age.  Chips to the corner where back strap and trigger guard meet.  Good bore.  Mechanically very good.

Engraved Volcanic Lever Action No 1 Pocket Pistol By New Haven Arms

.31 caliber, 3.5" octagonal barrel length, S/N 1018. Markings on the barrel in two lines "New Haven Conn." over patent date.  Large open scroll engraving on the frame and back strap.  Blue barrel, magazine tube with case color hammer and lever.  Large open finger hole lever.  Brass frame with varnished walnut grip. 

Condition: The barrel and magazine tube retain some of the blue finish blending to a patina.  The frame has a pleasant mustard patina.  The lever and hammer have traces of case color in the protected areas.  The grips are very good retaining some of the original varnish with minimal nicks and dings.  The markings on the barrel are fading but legible.  Mechanically good.  The bore is good with strong rifling and some light pitting.

Volcanic Lever Action No 1 Pocket Pistol By New Haven Arms Co 

Lot # 402 (Sale Order: 398 of 698)      

.31 caliber, 3.5" octagonal barrel length, S/N 15. Marking on barrel New Haven Conn. Patent Feb. 14, 1854.  Blue barrel and magazine tube, case color hammer and lever.  Brass frame and flat bottom varnished walnut grips with round finger hole lever. 

Condition: The barrel, magazine tube, lever, hammer and trigger are gray with some spotting throughout.  A pleasant untouched mellow patina on the frame with some tarnishing.  The markings are sharp and crisp. The grips are very good retaining some of the original varnish with minimal nicks and dings.  Has a replaced follower. Mechanically good.  Bore is very good.

Factory Engraved Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, Marked R. Ratliff 

Lot # 403 (Sale Order: 399 of 698)      

.31 caliber, 5" barrel, S/N 97309. With matching numbers throughout, featuring a punch dot underneath them. The top flat of the barrel is engraved Sam L. Colt in an engraved scroll. The barrel, lever, frame, trigger guard and backstrap all feature elaborate scroll engravings. Hidden among the engravings are engraved canine and eagle heads, along with floral motifs. Five-shot cylinder with roll engraved stagecoach scene. Silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap, with old ivory grips. The backstrap is engraved R. Ratcliff. Housed in a fitted wooden box with original Colt paper label affixed to the interior. Box includes a cleaning tool, a screwdriver, an eagle motif brass powder flask, a Colt's Patent mold, a tin of Eley percussion caps, and a full compartment of bullets and an extra nipple. 

Condition: Some traces of blue finish remain in protected areas of the barrel. The barrel and frame have a mostly flat grey and plum patina. The silver plating is mostly present on the trigger guard and backstrap, with some brass showing through on the edges. The engravings are crisp and expertly concise throughout the entirety of the revolver. The grips and bore are in very good condition. The mechanics are very good. The interior paper label on the box has some light wear.

**Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver belonging to Stanley Stahl Jeppsen 

Lot # 404 (Sale Order: 400 of 698)      

.45 caliber, 5.5" round barrel length, S/N 288284. Single-line Colt Hartford address on top of the barrel.  Left side of barrel marked "45 Colt."  Left side of frame marked in two lines with patent dates next to rampant Colt logo.  Custom engraved barrel, ejector, frame, six-shot fluted cylinder, back strap and trigger guard.  Blue finish on the barrel, ejector, cylinder, back strap and trigger guard.  Case color frame, hammer and trigger.  Custom made checkered walnut grips.  History included with this lot.

Stanely Stahl Jeppsen was born in Nebraska to immigrants from Denmark.  In his 81 years, Mr. Jepssen was involved in many activities that brought him in contact with many people, some of whom were famous.  He was an expert horseman, a rodeo performer, western cattle rancher, professional football player, movie actor, and involved with mining and real estate.  His friends included artist Charles Russell and the Truman Family.  His associations included Jim Thorpe, Tom Mix and William S. Hart. 

Condition: This gun retains most of the re-blue finish on the barrel and ejector with some wear to the muzzle. Retains most of the re-blue finish on the trigger guard and back strap.  The cylinder retains some of the blue finish with wear to the edges.  Vibrant re-case colored frame and hammer.  The grips are very good with minimal wear.  Bore is very good.  Mechanically very good.
