Marlin Model 1897 First Model Deluxe Rifle with Scope
Lot # 530 (Sale Order: 526 of 698)
Condition: Barrel and magazine tube retains most of the bright original blue finish. Frame retains most of the original original case colors just very lightly faded. Lever, buttplate and nose cap retains all of the original nickel finish. Stock is excellent retaining most of the original varnish finish. Forearm has darken close to the frame. Bore is excellent. Scope optics are clear and excellent.

Condition: The blue finish is in excellent condition on the barrel and frame, with only the slightest amount of fading to the lever. All metal has been refinished. This is a very olf refinish job, and was expertly done. The stock and forearm have some slight nicks, but are in good to very god overall condition. A small sliver of wood is missing on the upper tang. The bore is excellent.

Condition: All parts have all or nearly all of their original blue finish remaining. The leather case shows some very minor wear, but is in very good overall condition. This is an excellent example of a Ballard long-range sight set.

The stock and forearm are in very good to excellent condition. The nickel plating on the buttplate is lightly worn on the end nubs to reveal the brass underneath. The bore and mechanics are excellent. This is a beautifully engraved single shot rifle, in very good to excellent overall condition.

The stock has a very minor age crack where it meets the frame on the left side. Stock and forearm in otherwise very good condition. The bore and mechanics are excellent. This rifle is like new, and has most likely never been fired.

Brown Deluxe Sporting Rifle With Grip Extractor

The frame features Brown's unique grip shell extractor, found in early production rifles. Less than fifty of these are known to exist. According to John Dutcher, this is the only known pre-Marlin-Ballard in a centerfire cartridge.
Condition: The barrel has nearly all of its original blue finish remaining, with one or two small insignificant handling dings. The frame, breechblock, hammer and lever have a mostly even gunmetal patina, with some areas of case coloring showing through. The buttplate has an even gunmetal patina, with some light staining. The stock and forearm have some light handling marks, but are in good condition. The bore and mechanics are excellent.

Traces of silver plating remain on the underside of the brass frame, with more traces visible on the buttplate. The hammer has some case coloring remaining in the protected areas. The stock and forearm have very minor nicks and dings and are in very good condition. The bore and mechanics are excellent.

**Rare 1873 Winchester Pistol Grip Rifle

Condition: This rifle remains in very good condition with 50% blue drifting to patina on the barrel and magazine tube. The frame shows traces of blue within patina with some scratching. The wood is good with minor defects and normal aging. The original Winchester pistol grip cap is retained. Period eyelets for hook-type sling added. Good markings and fairly sharp edges. A rare '73 with notable provenance.

**Rare Special Order 1873 Winchester Rifle

Condition: This Winchester remains in original very good + condition with 50%-70% original blue drifting to a natural patina with just minor use and normal aging. The edges are sharp with good markings. The wood is also very good + with minor marks and slight imperfections. Original pistol grip cap is retained. A very significant variation chronicled by James Gordon in his book Winchester's New Model of 1873, A Tribute".
