Grateful Dead 1972 Hollywood Bowl Poster

Lot # 88 (Sale Order: 87 of 348)

This is a rare original 1st print poster from the June 17, 1972 show by the Grateful Dead and NRPS, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Due to the advancing chronic liver disease that Pigpen was slowly dying from, this turned out to be his last show. The central picture of the band was printed using a split-fountain method, which meant that each poster was a slightly different variant on the color spectrum, this one being an eye-catching psychedelic fuchsia to orange. The poster is in overall very good condition with a puncture in the top center surface which could be repaired or left as is. There are a few staple holes and a couple of other surface abrasions here and there, which do not detract from the beauty of this poster. These are hard to find and sell for well over $1000 in mint condition when available. This is in B- condition, all things considered, and would be a very nice addition to any collection. Dimensions: 16 7/8" L x 21 7/8" H. Estimate: $500...more

Lots of neat local ads, band bios and a full-page center spread for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and more. OAKLAND: Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 11" 4-page (bi-fold) concert program for the Grateful Dead appearing in a benefit for "Rock for Life-End Environmental Cancer", held at the Oakland (CA) Coliseum on 2/17/1979. Cover design by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, medium flat index stock program is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; a pair of semi-soft vertical bends in the left and right-center of the image (top to bottom edge), a light to moderate degree of toning/spotting/surface wear/handling and a tiny tear in the right center margin, but the program is otherwise fine; completely intact- no missing pages, pen scratch or the usual amount of psychedelically-enhanced embellishments usually associated with items from Dead concerts. *This show marked the final performance of Keith and Donna Godchaux with the Grateful Dead. Rick Griffin Original "Leaf Police" Pencil Sketch

Lot # 94 (Sale Order: 93 of 348)

Rick Griffin original "Leaf Police" pencil sketch artworks in custom frame. Rick was obsessed with what he believed was the inevitable future, the full complete unrestricted legalization and commercialization of marijuana in the United States. From his Can-A-Bliss and Puff of Kief posters and other artworks, Rick was horrified at what he viewed as an ever growing Police State for the rich to profit from the poor and viewed this as one of society's largest ongoing injustices. This series of "leaf police" artworks were created in response to President Reagan's "War on Drugs" speech, which Rick knew would vastly increase the prison population. Dimensions framed: 19.25" X 12". Estimate: $2500...more

Rick Griffin Unnamable Poster

Lot # 95 (Sale Order: 94 of 348)

Rick Griffin Unnamable poster that has been rolled in a tube for the last several years, probably since shortly after it was printed judging from its condition. Rick started this piece and waited for inspiration or a concert poster gig to provide a basis to continue and finish it, and as it sat on his board month after month people began to ask what it was, and if it had a name. Let's just say that this was not his favorite piece, and once when the neighbor lady saw it and asked what it was called, Rick immediately replied "It's called Unnamable ma'am." and that is how it finally got its name. Dimensions: app 23" X 34.75". Estimate: $250...more
