Hearts on Fire Original Oil Painting by Mouse

Lot # 432 (Sale Order: 83 of 368)

Hearts on Fire original oil painting by Stanley Mouse is a visual masterpiece combining many elements familiar to every Grateful Dead fan spanning all 50 years. A burning heart with the all-seeing eye atop a flaming skull bearing the standard White Rose image from the mid-sixties blotter sheets designed and dipped by Owsley Stanley. In a recent interview Mouse stated that Owsley told him that the White Rose was the inner circle’s code mark for only the very purest and potent LSD crystal. And like the old Hobo signs of days gone by the White Rose because a mark where people knew that good acid could be found easily.   Enlightened people traveling the county would see Mouse’s little one inch White Rose stickers on walls in head shops usually, but also very often in bars, coffee shops and even Denny’s. The skull rests atop a Jester’s belled collar bib, representing the Prankster in Mouse, and to remind viewers of this artwork not to believe everything that artists sometimes intentionally create to trick and/or fool us - as you have just been tricked and fooled by Stanley Mouse if you are buying any of this crap he just made up to write this description! The actual truth is, this is just an exceptionally cool Mouse original oil painting and that’s that – no further description required. Dimensions: Framed. 15 5/8" L x 18 3/4" H. Estimate: $6,000-9,000

GD 1974 "From the Mars Hotel" Poster Signed

Lot # 439 (Sale Order: 90 of 368)

Grateful Dead 1974 From the Mars Hotel poster direct from Stanley’s home with a bright bold signature. This is old Dead history… but if you hold the artwork up at eye level and look at it over your shoulder in the mirror the text at the top reads: “Ugly Roomers” – a reference to the rumors that Bill Graham and Winterland Productions was going to sue Rick Griffin and other ‘Big 5’ bay area artists for copyright infringement for reprinting and selling their own posters! So Mouse turned this into “Ugly Roomers” instead of Ugly Rumors we were all hearing at the time that ultimately proved to be true. Dimensions: 22 7/8" L x 50 7/8" H.
