Post WWII US Army Air Corps Jet Engine

Lot # 223 (Sale Order: 230 of 1015)

After WWII, it was clear that jet powered aircraft were superior and would be the future of military aviation. In 1946, Canada would turn over engine development to priva...morete industry where the company Avro Canada would produce aircraft and its subsidiary the Gas Turbine Division would produce the engines for the new aircraft. The Gas Turbine Division would name the first production engine the Orenda and would later become its own company Orenda Engines. The Gas Turbine Division would produce engines for the Canadian Sabre and the CF-100 fighters with the base Orenda engine being upgraded multiple times into new variants. This specific engine featured in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" as a rocket sled and had Indiana Jones ride it out of Area 51 after fighting the Soviets that invaded it. This engine has the designation "Orenda" and "Avro Canada" right above the turbine. The engine has a number of markings on it, and has one system built by General Laboratory Associates dated "6-53" or June 1953. The engine has an afterburner fitted to it for the movie to make it appear more like a rocket. Seems to be mostly complete, would make for a fun restoration. The engine is on a 2 wheel, 2.5 ton, pole type trailer with a plaque from the US Army Corps of Engineers dating it to 1951. Afterburner has surface rust on exterior and finish is worn on the tops of the combustion chambers. A neat piece of Cold War aviation history as well as movie history. Must see photos.

WWII German Belt Buckle Pistol 22 Caliber

Lot # 224 (Sale Order: 231 of 1015)

Rare WWII German belt buckle 22 caliber pistol, exclusively made for high ranking German officers. This pistol was known as the SS-Waffenakademie Koppelschloßpistole (Bel...moret Castle Gun). Designed by Louis Marquis while he was in a prisoner of war camp during WWI, the belt buckle gun was given to Nazi officers during WWII as a last ditch effort to avoid capture. Two designs were made. One with two 7.65mm smoothbore barrels and the other with four smoothbore barrels in 5.6mm (.22 caliber). Marquis had his design patented in 1938 and since then, only twelve, including prototypes, have been reported to have been manufactured. The gun fires by opening the cover from the top lever, exposing the barrels. Both top and bottom levers are pressed to flip the barrels up in the firing position. The gun is fired by pushing the triggers down. The firing pins are recocked by pulling the left side lever down and pushing the barrels down into the closed position. The buckle has a brass cover with some minor dents on the inside. The barrels have some minor scratches on the top and dents around the chamber from the firing pins. Springs for the firing pins are a little stiff but still work. Whole housing is clean and has little to no marks or scratches. Screws near the arms for the belt are loose on the right side. Pistol comes with leather belt that has been used and has finish wear on one side. Belt is leather and has some scratches on the inside as well as paint coming off. Has certificate of authenticity from 2012 and letter from "Rock Island Arsenal Gun Auction". These are often faked due to the value of them so authenticity is unknown. Must see photos.
