On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was tragically shot down by enemy fire in Afghanistan. Considered to be the worst loss of life in a single incident during the Afghanistan campaign. 30 active duty military, and 1 military working dog, were killed in action on this day leaving shocked and broken families in their wake. To celebrate these incredible lives and support families of fallen heroes, the 4th Annual One Team Memorial Ride will take place on September 5, 2015 in Virginia Beach, VA. Since the rides inception in 2012, this event has raised over $425,000 for the families of Extortion 17 (2012) and key charity partners (2014). Proceeds from donations, fees from consignments and buyers premium for the 2015 One Team Memorial Ride will go to The 31Heroes Project and The Travis Manion Foundation. Today 31 Heroes serves to impact the lives of our nation’s heroes and their families, while remembering the fallen, through athletic endeavors and competitive fundraising events. To celebrate these incredible lives and support families of fallen heroes, the One Team Memorial Ride, a motorcade escorted event presented by The 31Heroes Project in collaboration with the SEAL Future Fund, will take place on Saturday, September 5th, 2015 in Virginia Beach, VA. All proceeds from the 2015 One Team Memorial Ride will go to The 31Heroes Project and the SEAL Future Fund. The 31Heroes Project was established to honor the 30 Americans and a working dog killed in action on August 6, 2011. Today, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, The 31Heroes Project assists the families of the brave men of Extortion 17 as well as veterans and their families whose needs span from casualty assistance, survivor support, and PTSD/TBI treatment. The SEAL Future Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide resources to equip active duty and veteran Navy SEALs for success in the civilian world. Since The 31Heroes Project’s first event in 2011, more than $1.5 million has been given back to our nation’s heroes and their families through grant-making opportunities and partnership programs. In 2015, The 31Heroes Project launched an initiative to send a designated number of veterans to distinguished brain centers across the country to receive cutting-edge treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or Traumatic Brain Injury.
