Bentley Continental R

Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 51 of 194)

Since 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous withprestige, performance and luxury. The 'Continental' designationrecalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The 'R'resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as theTurbo R of the 1980s. Bentley's 1980s resurgence relied exclusivelyon models whose basic architecture was shared with otherRolls-Royce models however, the Bentley Continental R was unique tothe Bentley marque.  Despite the need to incorporatenon-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, theresult looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one re-stated for the1990s. Needless to say, the performance  was outstanding, thecombination of the Turbo R engine in the new wind-cheating shapecutting the 0-60mph time to under six seconds and boosting topspeed to in excess of 150mph.This Georgian Silver Continental R was supplied originally byJack Barclay Ltd on 11th February 1993.Benefitting from a chrome radiator grille further enhancing theaesthetics of this already stunning vehicle, it is also fitted withthe traditional figured walnut to the door capping, centre consoleand dashboard.  Supplied with the original build sheet fromMulliner Park Ward at Crewe and with a V5 registration documenttogether with a history file, this is surely a future classic. These stylish two-door Bentleys are superb to drive and offereverything expected from a luxury marque plus a whole lotmore.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

Lot # 152 (Sale Order: 52 of 194)

We are delighted to offer this Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spiderwhich, according to the Alfa Romeo Historic Archive in Arese,Milan, was manufactured on 19th November 1957 with the originalbody colour of white, and was sold on 21st March 1958 in Melegnano,Milan.  Today, this Giulietta sports red coachwork, a change from itsoriginal white, and carried out sometime in its earlier life. Oninspection, it appears straight and rust free and although appliedsome years ago, the finish still looks smart. The engine bay isfinished in black and gives away the original colour in places.Mechanically, the original 1290cc engine has been replaced with alater 1290cc Berlina block (a common change in period) mated to thestandard four-speed gearbox. An early, rare and sought aftercylinder head is fitted and fuelled via twin DCO3 sand cast Webercarburettors. As the historic racing fraternity knows, thesecarburettors are in very high demand and if a set can be found. Theengine is also of interest in that it has an early cylinder headwith the fuel pump located and driven off the exhaust camshaft. Thechrome work does require some renovation and the wheels lookoriginal and untouched. Looking inside, the interior is in good condition and the hood, onremoving it from its stowage, operates correctly and is in goodorder. A large history file accompanies this Giulietta and includesearly Giulietta Register club magazines, many magazine articles andcuttings with road test reports from Autocar, Motor and Road andTrack and an original Alfa Romeo spare parts catalogue. A largequantity of invoices and notes from its early days in the UK alsogive a fascinating insight into the car, including records from thewell known Alfa Romeo racing driver of the period, John Dooley ofBrookside Garage.  It also benefits from an MoT testcertificate valid until 9th September 2015. The Giulietta's V5 records the car as having first been registeredin October 1996, and in fact the car has been in long-termownership since then.  However a sales invoice from 6thDecember 1974 suggests the car has been in the UK since 1974; asdoes a letter from Alfa Romeo (Great Britain) Ltd dated 21st June1976, stating that the car is to Spider Veloce configuration. If you can look past this Spider's imperfections, you should beable to see a fabulous and rare, pre 1960, short wheelbaseGiulietta that all too infrequently comes onto themarket.?

Jaguar XK150S Fixedhead Coupé

Lot # 153 (Sale Order: 53 of 194)

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, theXK150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced thesplit screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over thedoors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and, on theroadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make thebonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard wasreplaced by one trimmed in leather and chrome. On the earlydrophead coupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an 'X' patternengraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 3.8 litre,E-Type, whilst thinner doors gave more interior space. Thefour-wheel Dunlop 12" disc brakes appeared for the first timealthough it was theoretically possible to order a car with drumsand either wire wheels or disc wheels could be specified.Suspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140.These were high performance, well-appointed sports touring carscapable of 137mph and 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and accomplished longdistances with alacrity. This rare righthand drive XK150S Coupé is fitted with the 3.4litre engine and overdrive gearbox. This two-owner car from new waspurchased by the vendor in 1965. Fully maintained and serviced bythe vendor in his own workshop, this XK150S is in excellentmechanical condition; it starts easily and runs very well. The carhas been re-painted while in his ownership and is finished inBritish Racing Green with the original brown leather interior. ThisJaguar XK150S is supplied with a V5C registration document, an oldV5 document, the buff log book and MoT test certificates going backto 2003 which show how little mileage this car has covered in thelast twelve years. Righthand drive XK Jaguars from this period arevery sought after and collectable - particularly the rare 150Smodel  -and it is even rarer to find an unrestored example insuch good condition.?

Lot # 154 (Sale Order: 54 of 194)

The R107 and C107 took the chassis components of the mid sizeMercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines fromthe W116 S-Class. The SL version was a two seat roadster withstandard soft and hardtop with optional folding seats for the rearbench. The SLC (C107) derivative was a two-door hardtop coupé withnormal rear seats. The SLC is commonly referred to as an 'SLcoupé', but in reality it was an S-class coupé replacing the formersaloon-based 280/300 SE coupé in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. The SLCwas replaced earlier than the SL, in 1981, with a much largermodel, the 380SEC based on the new S class. Lot # 155 (Sale Order: 55 of 194)

Bentley Motors Limited was founded on 18th January 1919 byWalter Owen Bentley known as W.O. Bentley or just 'W.O.' Bentleyhad been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines inWorld War I, the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in laterversions of the Sopwith Camel. After the war W. O. Bentley designedand made production cars that won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1924 andfollowing models which repeated those successes each June 1927,1928, 1929 and 1930. The R-Type is the second series of post-warBentleys, replacing the Mk. VI. Essentially a larger-boot versionof the Mk. VI, the R-type is regarded by some as a stop-gap beforethe introduction of the S-Series cars in 1955. Mulliner, Park Ward and Freestoneand Webb amongst others. This Standard Steel bodied R-Type is finished in two-tone blackover ivory with light beige leather trim and is fitted with a halflength sunroof. The 4566cc engine is very quiet and smooth in operation andPMB 272 drives with ease on the open road. Ferrari 308GTSi

Lot # 156 (Sale Order: 56 of 194)

The 308GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 and wasbuilt alongside the 308GT4, designed as a replacement for the 246Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fiorvanti, the man who styled some ofthe most iconic Ferraris including the Daytona, the new 308 was arakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferraristyling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years ofproduction, the body of the 308 was produced in fibreglass, afterwhich, steel was used.  The 308 shared a similar tube framechassis to the original Dino and 308GT4; with four wheel, doublewishbone independent suspension. Although Ferrari had used fuelinjection for a number of his single-seater and sports racing cars,it had been considered too complex and precarious for use with roadcars. As time went by, the technology improved until, in 1979, fuelinjection was introduced on the 400GT. Perhaps the ousting of Weberartistry was inevitable not only from an engine development pointof view, but also to help in meeting the increase demands of thelegislators. Whatever the reasons, it became Ferrari policy tointroduce fuel injection on all production models. For the 308Ferrari chose to stay with the Bosch K Jetronic system. It wasavailable on the US specification 308s around the middle of 1980,but not until some months later on the European models. Along withthe introduction of fuel injection, there was a switch to MarelliDigiplex electronic ignition and the gearbox was modified.Outwardly, there was little to distinguish these cars from thosethat have gone before. The 'I' on the back denotes the use ofinjection and twin tailpipes either side of the silencer box, butthis was not infallible as twin exhausts had also been used onhigh-performance options.Imported from the USA in July 1998, this 1980 Ferrari 308GTSiwas originally supplied in Rosso Corsa but was repainted in 2011,changing the colour to Giallo Fly- the very attractive Ferrariyellow. The interior is in its original black leather and it comeswith a black removable roof. The car has been in a privatecollection and was taken off the road in 2006 before being returnedand re-commissioned in 2013 by a top UK Ferrari specialist, QVLondon based in Windsor, Berkshire. It has recently been serviced, including having the cam belts replaced by the same company. ThisFerrari 308GTSi is supplied with a V5C registration document, anMoT test certificate which expires in May 2016 and a small filecontaining old MoT test certificates and copies of invoices from2013 and the recent service. The 308 model is one of the mostclassical shapes produced by Ferrari in the 1980s and good value asFerraris continue to rise in value and desirability.?

Lotus Elite Series II (Type 14)

Lot # 157 (Sale Order: 57 of 194)

The first Elite or Lotus Type 14 was an ultra-light two-seatercoupé, produced from 1958 to 1963 and making its debut at the 1957London Motor Car Show. It was chassis #1008 and, having spent ayear in development, aided by "carefully selected racingcustomers", it went on sale. The Elite's most distinctive featurewas its highly innovative fiberglass monocoque construction; theElite also used this glass-reinforced plastic material for theentire load-bearing structure of the car though the front of themonocoque incorporated a steel sub-frame supporting the engine andfront suspension. The resultant body was both lighter and stiffer and providedbetter driver protection in the event of a crash. It hadindependent suspension all round with transverse wishbones at thefront and Chapman struts at the rear whilst advanced aerodynamicsalso made a contribution giving the car a very low drag coefficientof 0.29 - quite low even for modern cars. When production ended in1963, just 1,030 of these had been built.Presented in Canary Yellow, this 1961 Series II Type 14 has justtwo former keepers and was built with the FEW Coventry Climaxengine. One of just approx 749 ever produced, this motor car was athoroughbred of its time. A numbers matching example offered withan MoT test certificate valid until May 2016 and V5 registrationdocument, this recently re-commissioned example after having beenoff the road since 2011 represents not only value for money but anopportunity to own a piece of sought after Lotus motorcar historyin fabulous condition.?

The Austin-Healey 3000 was built from 1959 to 1967 and is thebest known of the 'big' Healey models. The car's bodywork was madeby Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at the BMCAbingdon works. Introduced in March 1961, the 3000 Mk. II camewith three SU carburettors and an uprated camshaft, designated theBT7 Mk. II (four-seat version) and BN7 Mk. II (two-seat version);however, upon the introduction of the BJ7 (2+2 seats) model inJanuary 1962, the number of carburettors was reduced to two. Porsche 911T

Lot # 159 (Sale Order: 59 of 194)

The original Porsche 911 was introduced in Autumn 1963 andmanufactured until 1989. It was succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable forbeing rear-engined and air-cooled and, from its inception, the 911was modified both by private teams and the factory itself forracing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful911-derived 935 which won the 24 Hours du Mans and other majorsportscar races outright against prototypes. The 911T was the firstPorsche to receive the new Bosch K-Jetronic or CIS engine(Continuous Injection System) from January 1973 onwards. Oftenreferred to as 1973 1/2, these T models produce 140bhp and alsoboast the newer type standard H pattern (915) gearbox which, intandem, provide a smooth yet powerful engine and are great fun todrive. This lefthand drive, matching numbers, 1973 Porsche 911T coupéwith electric sunroof was sold new by McPeak Porsche/Audi in WalnutCreek, California and has a complete history going back to then, even including the original windscreen sticker. The last ownerpurchased it from the fifth owner in 2013, with the last threeowners all members of the Porsche Club of America and all of theprevious owners spending substantial sums maintaining this car. Onein particular decided to upgrade the engine to virtually 'S'specification and on file an invoice confirms the $20,000 enginerebuild and upgrades undertaken. At the same time, the car waslowered with Bilstein sports suspension and a Dansk stainless dualoutlet exhaust was fitted. In 1997, a Porsche Owner's Club'purchasing check list' was carried out and the car scored 97%,remaining in the same condition today. Last year the car was sentto Tuthill Porsche for a full inspection and major service andevidently, no expense was spared in the preparation; £6,000 wasspent with Tuthill's ensuring that the car is absolutely on thebutton and ready to enjoy.  All invoices and inspectionreports, which report no mechanical or body defaults, are in thehistory file and Tuthill's reported that it is a very good car. Thecar has been previously repainted in the original metallic blue andthe black interior is in excellent condition. This 911T is suppliedwith a V5C registration document and a file containing all theinvoices and inspection reports.?

Lamborghini Espada Series II

Lot # 160 (Sale Order: 60 of 194)

Lamborghini wanted to include a four seat, grand tourer to themodel line-up which included the Miura and the 400GT; this came tofruition in the Spring of 1968 when the Espada was exhibited at theGeneva Salon. A very distinctive design by Marcello Gandini ofBertone, it was radical in appearance yet extremely practical. Thename 'Espada' means 'sword' in Spanish, referring to the sword thatbullfighters use to kill the bulls. With 150mph performance fromthe 3.9-litre, V12 engine, five speed gearbox, chassis-mounted rearaxle and all-independent, coil spring suspension, the car was builtas a high performance supercar. The interior was altereddramatically between each model. An all new dashboard and steeringwheel was installed for the S2 and the interior was again revampedfor the S3.This lefthand drive Series Two Espada was manufactured onOctober 1st, 1970 and benefits from being one of the last SeriesTwo's to be built with the glorious Muira centre spinner Campagnolowheels, and the Series One rear lamps. It was delivered on October15, 1970 to Lamborauto of Turin and sold to Ms. Zutinic Radmila whoowned the car until 1972. The second owner, Roberto Jaime Gourlay, purchased the car inTurin in 1972 and was working as a buyer for the Canadian ForcesExchange Stores in Lahr, Germany. He had a Department of NationalDefence driver's licence and was able to register the Espada withthe Canadian Forces and not with the German TUV and so the car hadDND Canadian licence plates in Germany. When Roberto departed Lahr and set up business in Frankfurt, hehad to change the Canadian (CDN) plates for German duty free platesand continued to enjoy the car. He then went to work in Spain wherethe authorities let him drive the car on tourist plates as long ashe held a valid work and residence permit. When the permit endedhowever, the Spanish authorities insisted he had to register onSpanish plates and demanded a considerable fee. At this point, hedecided to leave Spain within the week and drove back toGermany. His intention was to sell the Espada but as the German economywas not in good shape, he drove it to the UK where the car was soldto a wealthy horse dealer and saddler, Kenneth Lyndon-Dyres, ofMaidstone, Kent.  It was first registered in the UK on 10thMay, 1976 having had four owners by this time.  It was thenshipped to California with the intention of selling but did notmeet the emission regulations and so was shipped back by a Don Kayof Croydon who bought it in the USA. It was then acquired by aMichael Percy of Piddington, High Wycombe on 23rd September1980. We believe it was owned by him until 1986 at which time, theengine dropped a valve and the car was bought by ThoroughbredSports Cars, Whitney, Oxfordshire. The engine was removed and thebody re-painted from Azzurro Mexico (light blue) to red. It thenremained with the engine out until the vendor decided it was timeto rescue her and bought the car on 10th February, 1989. David Eaton  had wanted an Espada since first seeing the carin magazines in the late 60's and had joined the Lamborghini clubin 1988. Being just 44 inches high (the car not the vendor), and solong and wide, this spectacular four-seat shape had completelyhooked him. It is important to note that the decision to buy wasbased on being able to see the body shell and chassis were rustfree and a desire to rebuild a Lamborghini V12. It took seven yearsto take the car back to bare metal  and then two-pack thecomplete underneath (still in excellent condition) as well asrebuild the suspension and, of course, that fabulous V12 engine. The engine has the original pistons and bores but was rebuilt withnew rings, chains, shells, and gaskets at 77,000km. The paint yousee has been on the car since 1986.She was back on the road in 1996 and has clocked-upapproximately 18,000 trouble free kilometres. More recently, shehas been back to the factory for the Murcielago launch in Germanyand numerous trips up and down the UK. It has also been to the 50thanniversary timeline in London and the Silverstone Classics 2013and 2014. But after 26 years of ownership, a difficult decision wasmade to sell her; as another classic racing car project beckons.Presented with a full year's MoT test certificate and a new set ofPirelli tyres, it is with a heavy heart that one man's passion isnow available.?

Jaguar E-Type SI Roadster (3.8 litre)

Lot # 161 (Sale Order: 61 of 194)

Rather like gold and property, there are a number of otherinvestment vehicles (excuse the pun) that can be relied upon withinthe classic car market. Cars that, when tracked, prescribe a curvethat can not only be relied upon to remain even and constant butalso offer the investor a reasonably dependable return.  Whereit differs from more conventional investments is that itaccelerates to 60mph in 7.6 seconds, has a top speed of 153mph andrepresents one of the most beautiful objects ever penned by a humanbeing.Behind the wheel, the visceral experience is exquisite, womenthink you are intoxicating and the simple pride of ownership is onethat overrides even an Applecorp share certificate. It's a constantwonder to me that not everyone has a Jaguar E-Type.The pinnacle, of course, is the first incarnation of the model, the Series I and it is an extremely well restored one that ispresented here today. It was acquired in a partially restored stateapproximately three years ago by the vendor, himself something of aspecialist in this field but probably better known for dominatingthe XK racing scene for the last twenty years.Under Trevor Grooms critical eye, the car was completelystripped, painted and rebuilt. All bright-work was re-chromed andthe braking system was completely re-worked (with new piping). Therear differential now has a rebuilt 3.31 power lock system and thegearbox has a clean bill of health.  A new clutch, fuel pump& lines and complete new wiring harness has been fitted. Theengine has been completely rebuilt with electronic ignition, rebuilt dynamo and overhauled radiator. The front suspension, shockabsorbers, steering rack (and mounts) are all rebuilt, have newbushes and refitted and all finished off with a brand new stainlesssteel exhaust.Whilst the mechanics are fully sorted, the interior has not beenneglected. Completely re-trimmed, as you would expect, with newseats and runners, new hood and hood cover and, most unusually, afactory hardtop is also included. This description gives only a brief insight into the workscarried out, further inspection of the history file will showadditional details such as the addition of a new battery andcut-off, rebuilt heater box and associated pipe work and a newaluminium dash kit amongst many others. So, properly restored, a matching numbers car and the model andconfiguration to own, use or collect.

ISO Fidia

Lot # 162 (Sale Order: 62 of 194)

Manufacturers of the Isetta bubble car, Iso joined the ranks ofsupercar constructors in 1962 with the launch of the GiottoBizzarrini-designed Rivolta coupé at the Turin Motor Show. Thestyling was carried out at Carrozzeria Bertone and penned byGiorgetto Giugiaro. The Fidia, longer in the wheelbase byapproximately 150mm, was a more practical proposition than thetwo-door Rivolta on which it was based. Originally conceived as theS4 and introduced in 1967, the Fidia's four-door body was airy, graceful, purposeful and sleek, continuing Iso's leadership inadvancing automobile design. Chevrolet engines of 5.4 or 5.7 litreswere fitted initially. Towards the end of production, 35 Fidiaswere finally built with the 5.8-litre Ford V8 engine. Iso's provenunderpinnings included independent front suspension, deDion rearaxle and four wheel, power-assisted, disc brakes (inboard at therear). It is believed that in all 16 RHD Fidia's (the first beingsold to John Lennon in 1967) were produced, of which two were S4'sand seven were Ford powered; only a few righthand drive carsare thought to still exist. We are delighted to offer this 1973 example; one of the fewrighthand drive Fidias still in existence and fitted with the moreunusual Ford V8 power plant. The original build sheet confirms thatthe Fidia was built on 20th July 1973 and included theaddition of electronic ignition, automatic transmission, electricsunroof, power steering, a large sump pan, oil cooler, seat beltsand Michelin tyres. The car was subsequently imported into the UKby Wood and Krailing Limited, a Lancia dealership based at thattime in Theydon Boyle, Essex and was first registered on20th December 1973. Four previous owners are recordedwho include the importing dealership and Chris Lackner, the ISO& Bizzarrini Owners Club UK President who compiled achronological summary of the car's account contained within thehistory file.Presented in its original colour of dark blue with beige leatherinterior, this Iso Fidia is in excellent condition with a lowrecorded mileage of only approximately 51,500 miles upon its 200mphodometer. Excellent panel gaps provide a reassuring sign that theintegral strength of this Fidia remains strong; in fact, a look onthe undersides confirms that there is nothing untoward going on.The interior, we are informed, is original and also in very fineorder; in fact such is the quality that it exudes, that itcertainly entices both the driver and passengers into its luxuryleather sporting seats. The driver is kept well informed with anarray of instruments and directional control is provided via theItalian Nardi steering wheel. Entertainment for the driver andpassengers, apart from the wonderful music from the 5.8 litre V8,is supplied by a high quality McIntosh sound system.Mechanically, some modifications and upgrades have beenincorporated which ensure that this Iso Fidia remains the fine andreliable Grand Tourer you will have imagined; a fact confirmed bythe vendor who reassures us that the car has completed, and iscapable of, sustained comfortable high speed European Touringtrips. Alloy cylinder heads have been added and the gearboxupgraded to the later Ford 'Automatic Over Drive' (AOD) unit givingthe driver better reliability and usability over the earlieroriginal unit. To keep the chassis in shape and in control on theroad, the suspension has been overhauled with new bushes and avented disc brake conversion has been added; a recent road testconfirms the car's reassuring ability. The Iso is offered with acurrent UK V5 registration document and MoT test certificate validuntil February 2016.It is recommended that this Fidia is viewed in the flesh as ithas a certain charm that may not be appreciated in photographsalone and being a rare and exotic Italian coachbuilt Super Car, itoffers serious high speed and stylish touring for four. With a keenestimate, the Fidia represents fabulous value in view of today'srising market and surely an opportunity to acquire something ratherdifferent.Interested parties should note that the privateregistration pictured is to be retained by the vendor and an agerelated plate will accompany the car to the sale.

Ferrari unveiled the new Testarossa at the 1984 Paris Motor Showmarking the end of production of the Boxer, the car that had beenthe flagship 12-cylinder Ferrari model for the previous ten years.Styled by Pininfarina, the Testarossa paid homage to the great 50ssports racer that originally bore the name, simply translating as'Red Head'; the rocker covers being painted red. The mid-engine,rear wheel drive configuration allowed the center of gravity to bepositioned in the middle of the car, with a weight distributionratio of 40% front and 60% rear, thus achieving excellent corneringand road holding ability. The Testarossa was produced with 16''five-spoke 'Star' alloy wheels and disc brakes fitted all round;with 309mm discs at the front and 310mm discs at the rear. TheTestarossa was larger than its Boxer predecessor; six inches widerand some 2½ inches longer which allowed more leg room. In addition, the temperature inside the cockpit was reduced as twin radiatorswere mounted in the rear; unlike the Boxer, where the single frontmounted radiator had plumbing from the bonnet to the engine behindthe seats, which made the cabin very hot, especially on a warm day.The distinctive side vents were as useful as they were visuallystriking, allowing excellent engine ventilation, whilstcontributing to the car's unique styling. This truly excellent 1988 Ferrari Testarossa was imported fromJapan in 1998 and has been in two private collections since, thecurrent vendor having purchased the car in 2012. Whilst in hisownership, it has been maintained by well-known Ferrari specialistsbased in Berkshire who have undertaken the most recent work to thecar; a cam belt service and MoT test, in May 2015. This FerrariTestarossa is finished in 'Nero Metallico' with black leatherinterior and is supplied with a V5C registration document, MoT testcertificate valid until May 2016 and some recent invoices. Ferrarisfrom this period have become very collectable with superb examplessuch as this one are becoming harder to find making them a greatinvestment as they will continue to increase in value.?

Jaguar XK150 SE Drop Head Coupe

Lot # 164 (Sale Order: 64 of 194)

This 1960 Jaguar XK150 SE has been in the same ownership since1988 and is now being offered as part of a deceased estate.Although bearing a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, theXK150 was radically revised. A one-piece windscreen replaced thesplit screen, and the wing line no longer dropped so deeply at thedoors. The front parking lights, which were located at the top ofthe wings, featured a red light to remind the driver the lightswere on. Mechanically, the 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight six engine wasrated at 180 SAE bhp at 5750 rpm but most cars were fitted with theSE engine whose modified cylinder head (B type) and larger exhaustvalves boosted the power to a claimed 210 SAE bhp at 5500 rpm. Twin1.75-inch (44 mm) SU HD6 carburettors were fitted. The suspensionand chassis were very similar to the XK140, and steering was byrack and pinion. According to the original buff log book, the Jaguar was firstregistered in September 1960, in Kirkowen, Belfast and only fourkeepers are recorded including the deceased gentleman who remainsthe last name on the log book. It is rare to find an XK that hasbeen for the most part unmolested and has certainly not had thesoul restored out of it. There are a very few blemishes to thecoachwork which is resplendent in white and certainly shows off theexcellent chrome work and chrome wire wheels. The interior has alsobeen untouched and, although the red leather has that certainpatina, the interior is in very good order and serviceable. As well as the original buff log book and instruction manual, thehistory file shows works carried out by the Jaguar specialists M.Barclay and Hoffman's of Henley amongst others. Since purchase byits enthusiastic owner in 1988, this XK150 DHC has been well lovedand cared for, only being used on dry days for trips to local carshows and occasions. We are advised that this Jaguar will arrive atthe sale with a current UK V5 registration document and a fresh MoTtest certificate. This Jaguar XK150 SE DHC offers the chance to own a very honestand largely original car that is not often found these days.?

The highly esteemed Daimler Motor Co. Ltd. of Coventry, Englandintroduced its superb DE36 ultra luxury-car chassis in 1946. Thefirm was, at the time, just returning to car production after asix-year hiatus brought about by World War II. It had all thequalities of silence and dignity of which Daimler is a synonymouswith; speed, acceleration and roadholding. British royalty usedseveral DE36 cars, as England's Daimler had long been the motorcarof choice for the nation's Royal family. According to the DERegistry website, additional royal first owners included the Kingof Thailand, Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, the King ofAfghanistan and the Prince and Princess of Monaco. One of just six built, this imposing and well built examplerazor-edged, close-coupled touring limousine coachwork byspecialist, Freestone & Webb. ONW129 was purchased new by theBishop of Leeds who, in turn, sold it to a wedding hire company inWales. It was then sold on privately through a small ad in theTimes in the mid to late 1960s to Mr. Rupert Spink.  It wasused by them right up until 1977 when it then passed to notedDaimler Historian, Brian Smith where it featured in his acclaimed,two-volume tome, 'Daimler Days'. Indeed it has also been describedin another Dalton Watson  publication as  "the last ofthe great straight 8's" and "fairly undervalued". The car wascomplete but drab in its original black and navy blue faded paintand improvised interior trim, Rexine replacing leather and cloth. He then began a restoration exercise, mechanically it requiredlittle although later it suffered from a stuck valve and the headwas sent it away for a professional overhaul. Part of the exhaustsystem was also replaced and new gaskets fitted to head andmanifolds. The paintwork was rubbed down and made ready for its newcolour scheme and the car then went to professional trimmers whocompletely renewed the interior. The interior woodwork wasre-polished and re-chroming took place where necessary. With newtyres, it was then enjoyed and indeed went on to transport allthree daughters to their respective weddings. In 2000, it was sold,in good running order,  to Mike Batt in Upminster and then tothe vendor shortly after. Recently overhauled and in running order, this splendid example is ready for some fine outings over thesummer months.   ?

Lagonda M45 Rapide

Lot # 168 (Sale Order: 68 of 194)

The Lagonda car company was founded in 1906 in Staines,Middlesex by the American Wilbur Gunn (1859-1920), who named itafter a river near his home town of Springfield, Ohio. Gunn hadstarted out building motorcycles in the garden of his house inStaines with some success including winning the 1905 London toEdinburgh Trial. In 1907, he launched his first car and in 1910 wonthe Moscow to St Petersburg Trial driving a 16/18bhp model. Havingestablished its reputation, Lagonda concentrated mainly on theproduction of light cars before reverting to sporting and luxurymodels in the mid-1920s with the introduction of the 14/60. Thisfour-cylinder, two-litre model was joined in 1929 by the firstLagonda six-cylinder engine,  the three-litre, but by themid-1930s, the Meadows-engined cars were seen as the way forward.Introduced at the 1933 Olympia Show and based on the preceding ZMthree-litre model, the M45 deployed Meadows' 4.5-litre, twin-plugsix-cylinder to good effect with saloons being capable of reaching90mph and tourers even hitting 'the ton' under favourableconditions! 'A short run on one of the first of the 4.5-litreLagonda models, with an open four-seater body, left a vividimpression not only of brilliant acceleration and sheerperformance, but of a car delightfully silent and easy running in away that can be achieved to its fullest extent only by abig-engined machine working well inside its limits,' reported TheAutocar in 1933. A team of three specially prepared short-chassiscars (effectively the soon-to-be-announced M45 Rapide) prepared byLagonda main agents, Fox & Nicholls, performed creditably atthe 1934 RAC Tourist Trophy at Ards and the following year, one ofthese TT cars driven by John Hindmarsh and Luis Fontes won the LeMans 24-Hour endurance classic outright. Endowed with such animpeccable pedigree, the Lagonda 4.5-litre quickly establisheditself as a favourite among the wealthy sporting motorists of itsday - World Land Speed Record holder, Sir Malcolm Campbell was oneof many high-profile M45 owners - and over 70 years on, this modeland the M45R Rapide in particular, remains a much sought afterclassic. The car offered here has been owned by two avid car collectorssince 1963. The previous owner kept this T7 bodied M45 Rapide withtwo other Lagondas in his collection and used them regularly. Hehad actually started to restore this particular car in the late1990s but unfortunately passed away before the final items could becompleted. The current owner was a close family friend who hadhelped with the disposal of the vehicle collection. Consequently, that left this car which he purchased in 2002. He then completedthe restoration which included completely rebuilding the engine andrenewing the leather interior. In recent years, he has used it onthe Irish Jubilee Rally and has taken it to the Le Mans Classicwith both trips trouble free other a couple of punctures. Thereliability of this car is such that, when it was consigned, theowner was planning to drive the car to Brooklands from South Wales. This M45 Rapide, with the original T7 touring body, is finished inblue with dark blue leather interior, black hood and side screens. It is supplied with a V5C registration document, a valid MoT testcertificate and a file with continuous history going back to 1952.In the history file there is an invoice for an engine overhaul, completed in 1962 at the cost of a small flat. Lagonda cars havealways upheld a reputation for effortless fast touring and thepride of ownership which fine detail work and distinguishedcoachbuilding can give. The 4.5-litre model retains thesecharacteristics but scores considerably over its forebears by itshigh power-to-weight ratio. This Lagonda M45 Rapide is an exciting,ready-to-go, very well sorted driver with astonishing power andequally capable handling.?

Bentley 4.5 litre Open Tourer by Vanden Plas

Lot # 170 (Sale Order: 70 of 194)

W. O. Bentley proudly debuted the new 3-litre car bearing hisname at the 1919 Olympia Motor Exhibition, the prototype enginehaving fired up for the first time just a few weeks earlier. Inonly mildly developed form, this was the model which was to becomea legend in motor racing history and which, with itsleather-strapped bonnet, classical radiator design and BritishRacing Green livery has become the archetypal vintage sportscar. The new 4½ litre model effectively employed the chassis, transmission and brakes of the 3 litre, combined with an enginethat was in essence two-thirds of the six-cylinder 6½ litre unit. Thus the new four-cylinder motor retained the six's 100x140mmbore/stroke and Bentley's familiar four-valves-per-cylinderfixedhead architecture but reverted to the front-end verticalcamshaft drive of the 3 litre. Bentley Motors lost no time inrace-proving its new car. It is believed that the first prototypeengine went into the 3 litre chassis of the 1927 Le Mans practicecar. The original 4½ litre car, nicknamed by the team 'Old MotherGun' and driven by Frank Clement and Leslie Callingham, promptlyset the fastest race lap of 73.41mph before being eliminated in theinfamous 'White House Crash' multiple pile-up. The 4½ litre was produced for four years, all but nine of the 665cars made being built on the 3 litre's 'Long Standard', 10'10"-wheelbase chassis. Purchasers of the 4½ litre model were, incommon with those of all vintage-period Bentleys, free to specifytheir preferences from a very considerable range of mechanical andelectrical equipment in addition to whatever body style andcoachbuilder may be required. This outstanding Bentley was first registered on 29thJune 1929 to Sq. Ldr. C.A. Ridley of Horley with the car changinghands to Capt. H.R. Campion just prior to the war. During the warthe Bentley was laid up in the Cumberland Hotel garage in Londonand fortunately survived unscathed with the car re-commissionedafter the war by Capt. Campion's son. Originally built with aMaythorne and Sons saloon body, it is thought to have beenre-bodied by Vanden Plas circa 1965. The engine and back axle wereoverhauled by Sid Cooper of Birmingham, a renowned Bentleyspecialist. The Bentley is in splendid order today having hadsignificant sums spent on her over a long period. The history fileis substantial and dates back to 1964, included are a number ofhand written notes showing expenditure and also details of someEuropean outings.A Bentley 4½ litre is a thing of beauty, to sit and drive one isa memorable experience. The current vendor has thoroughly enjoyedowning this outstanding example after searching long and hard tofind the car he wanted. It is easy to see why he chose to purchaseUU6 794, aesthetically everything is right about the car, mechanically she appears to be in very good order and conditionthroughout is excellent. She is fitted with a Le Mans fuel tank andradiator cap, electric fuel pumps, double Hartford shock absorbersfront and rear, correct P100 headlamps, fold flat windscreen withaero screens. The dashboard has the correct instrumentation withJaeger speedometer and rev counter with Smiths original gaugescompleting the impressive line-up.  This is a matching numbersexample and remains a car of elegance and style that is still morethan able to cruise at speed should you choose to do so.

Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupé

Lot # 171 (Sale Order: 71 of 194)

In 1954, the XK120's were superseded by the mechanically updatedXK140's fitted with the more powerful 190bhp XK engine which hadbeen used in the Special Equipment 120's. The new models werevisually similar to their predecessors differing in externaldetails only. The fixedhead had an extended roof line and, togetherwith the drophead Coupé, was given two small extra seats in therear suitable for children or adults for a short journey but theymade the XK's a little more practical for the family man. Overdrivewas now an optional extra and the car could be ordered with aC-Type head in which case power output was increased to 210bhp. Theprice of the roadster, all but a handful of which were exported, was now £1,127 (plus tax); Special Equipment versions were known inthe States as XK140M's and, when fitted with the C-type head, asMC's. The XK140's maintained the XK's popularity but very few foundtheir way into competition although those that did performed well.Today, many are prepped for competition by such specialists as GuyBroad and Twyford Moors and represent formidable opponents. This rare, very original, matching numbers, righthand drive 1955Jaguar XK140 drophead coupé was purchased by the owner in 1974after seeing it advertised with 60,000 miles on the clock and inimmaculate condition.  It was a lot more money than he couldafford but he dashed over to where the car was and wrote a chequefor much less than the asking price and put it on the bonnet; after20 minutes the gentleman owner stepped forward and picked up thecheque. After a worrying week waiting for the cheque to clear, ourvendor finally picked up the car. This car has been fullymaintained and serviced by the vendor in his own workshop at hisfarm; it runs and drives superbly having only covered about 6,500miles since its purchase. Finished in British Racing Green withblack roof and brown leather interior, this XK140 is supplied witha V5C registration document, old registration documents and old Mottest certificates which go back to 2001. This is a rare opportunityto purchase an original XK140, righthand drive drophead coupé whichhas not been restored but is still in excellent conditionthroughout.?

Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. I BT7 Competition

Lot # 172 (Sale Order: 72 of 194)

There is little doubt that the Big Healey occupies a significantchapter in the annuls of historic rallying. Few cars can competewith the elegant lines and formidable three litre engine that tookso many of these to victory at stages all over the world. The BMCcompetitions department rallied the 3000 from its introduction butthe development of the works cars effectively ended in 1965 mainlybecause of the success of the Mini Cooper 'S'.Such luminaries as Pat Moss and Tommy Wisdom, Nancy Mitchell,John Gott and Peter Riley took these cars into the public eye wherethey remain just as competitive with modern day warriors such asDavid Grace Simon Kidstone. Chassis number H-BT-H/12122 was builtin March 1960 and dispatched to Imperial Motors in Bournemouth. Theequipment specified at the factory included a black hardtop, roadspeed tyres, a laminated windscreen, disc wheels all round, adjustable steering column and over drive. No heater wasrequested.Whilst the first owner is unknown, a paper-trail does existdetailing its history with the second owner from 1968. A change ofownership took place at that point to Brian Turner of West Londonwith another change in 1972 to John Seymour in Essex. He took the original registration number, OTK 76, off the carreplacing it with the current number, APU 122A although still racedwith OTK 76 right through to 1989. It is believed that the originalnumber was not sold but attributed to his tow-vehicle while heraced the Healey. In 1972/73, it was fully converted to its currentracing specification before selling to Roger Byford in the early1980's. It is thought that during John Seymour's ownership, the carwas taken back to Donald Healey in Warwickshire to be converted toa race car.To the trained eye, there are also another few details thatstand out; primarily, all the body panels are aluminium, includingall four wings and doors, normally the preserve of the works teamcars, including the dished rear lid, so shaped to take a sparewheel. Additionally the throttle assemblies and rocker cover arealso of the works type. The shock absorbers are Armstrong adjustable units to the rearand Armstrong up-rated to the front. The gearbox contains straightcut, close ratio gearing of the type used at Sebring, DonaldHealey's most successful circuit, mated to a 2912cc engine withoversize valves, a racing camshaft by Rees and a Tuftrided drilledcrankshaft fitted to a lightened and balanced flywheel. Thecompetition distributer keeps things in time and the triple DCOE'sensure the fuel is flowing correctly. The brakes are servo-assistedby Bob Green with a limited slip differential and new crown wheeland pinion with a 4.1:1 ratio. There appears to be much on this carthat speaks of more than the sum of its parts. In 1982, the car was sold to a German owner where it was racedon the continent until 1989 when the vehicle was parked up and forthe past 25 years it has been dry stored. Recently recommisioned,it now has excellent oil pressure and runs well. It has just beenthrough a UK MoT test; albeit with a borrowed set of wheels andtyres.Indeed, reading between the lines, it may be argued that thiscar has enjoyed a career in racing that is not fully documentedhere or understood. A little more research may open a few pleasantsurprises or form the basis of an easy rebirth to rallying.Furthermore, it is supplied with FiA papers dated July, 1988 aswell as a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. The future of this Healey is still to be written and couldeasily be as interesting as its past.

DeLorean DMC-12 (24 miles from new)

Lot # 173 (Sale Order: 73 of 194)

When John Z. DeLorean stepped down from his position as thegeneral manager of Chevrolet in 1973, it was widely reported thatDeLorean 'had fired General Motors'. Always ambitious and willingto try new things, the talented salesman and engineer was planningto go his own way with a new sports car, one that would be moretechnically advanced and have superior safety features. He calledit 'the ethical sports car-for the bachelor who's made it'. Builtin Northern Ireland, under an agreement with the BritishGovernment, the DMC-12 was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, ofItaldesign. It featured distinctive gullwing doors and outer bodypanels of brushed stainless steel over a rear-engined,Renault-powered chassis and suspension that was largely based uponthe Lotus Esprit. Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus, was then broughtin to resolve any engineering issues. The first 500 productionDeLoreans were ready for shipment in April 1981 and, at first, themodel was a smash success, mainly due to its founder's fame andinnovative design. Unfortunately, the success cooled quickly andthe DeLorean Motor Company filed for bankruptcy in late 1982, afterJohn DeLorean's well-publicised arrest on drug trafficking charges. He was eventually acquitted but it was too late to save his dream. Some 9,200 DeLoreans had been built with approximately 6,500 stillin existence worldwide today.Originally supplied to the USA, this unique vehicle is the lastDeLorean DMC built in 1981. It is unique in that it only hasdelivery miles on the clock, a total of 24 miles. It has never beenregistered or driven on the road. It certificate of origin paperwork shows that it was transferred by the DeLorean Motor Company tothe DeLorean dealer in Newark, New Jersey USA on June 10th 1982where it stayed locked away at the dealership until the presentowner purchased it in November 2000 and shipped it to the UK whereit was again locked away and stored in a warm dry garage for thenext 15 years. The car is so unique it still has the factory fitteddelivery and EPA stickers attached to the front windscreen. Thevehicle comes complete with the original battery, tyres, wheels, owner's manual, tool kit etc. The car has had no modificationsexcept to keep the fluids and oils fresh and the tyres maintainedat factory pressures. This DeLorean is supplied with thecertificate of origin, the C61 BTI customs form showing the BTIreference number needed for the NOVA certificate and a copy of theshipping invoice. This is an icon of the 1980s and probably theonly DMC12 with delivery mileage in the world; a unique opportunityto purchase what can only be describe as motoring art.?

Austin-Healey 100/4 BN2

Lot # 174 (Sale Order: 74 of 194)

The Austin Healey 100 was built between 1953 and 1956 by theBritish Motor Corporation. Originally developed by Donald Healey,it was to be produced in-house by his small car company in Warwick, using the Austin A90 Atlantic mechanics. Healey built a single'Healey Hundred' for the 1952 London Motor Show and the designparticularly impressed Leonard Lord (Managing Director of Austin),so much so, that a deal was struck with Healey to build it inquantity at Austin's Longbridge factory. The car was subsequentlyrenamed the Austin-Healey 100. The first series 'BN1' were equippedwith the same 90bhp engines and manual transmission as the AustinA90, however, the gearbox was modified to be a three-speed unitwith overdrive on second and top.  The BN2 came with a realfour-speed manual transmission, with overdrive on the top twogears. The BN2 has many features distinguishing it from the BN1; thefront wheel arches were enlarged as well as using a different rearaxle and, possibly the most visually noticeable, an alternativetwo-tone paint scheme - the BN2s being the first 100s to have thisas an option.   This excellent Austin Healey 100/4 BN2 was supplied new in 1955 inlefthand drive configuration to Paris, France but featured a mphspeedometer. It was returned to the UK in 1957, when it is believedto have been converted to righthand drive by the Healey factory andassigned with the registration 'TLT 48'. Little is known of thehistory prior to 1970 but, during that time, the colour was changedfrom the original green to black. In the 1980s, the car was subjectto a comprehensive restoration at which time it was repainted, again in green and taken on a tour of France. In 1998, it was soldto a car dealer who removed the original registration number andhad it replaced by the DVLA. Following this, the car's current andofficial registration is 'ESJ 886'. Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupé

Lot # 175 (Sale Order: 75 of 194)

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, theXK150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced thesplit screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over thedoors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and, on theroadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make thebonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard wasreplaced by a leather trimmed unit.  On the early dropheadcoupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an 'X' patternengraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 3.8 litreE-Type. It was discontinued after June 1958 and thinner doors gavemore interior space. The standard engine, the same as fitted to theXK140, was the 3.4 litre DOHC Jaguar straight six rated at 180bhpat 5750rpm but most cars were fitted with the SE engine that had amodified cylinder head with larger exhaust valves rated at 210bhpat 5500rpm. Twin 1.75-inch SU HD6 carburettors were fitted.Four-wheel Dunlop 12" disc brakes appeared for the first timealthough it was theoretically possible to order a car with drums.Either wire wheels or disc wheels could be specified and thesuspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140.These were high performance, well appointed sports touring cars andcould cope with long distances with alacrity. This excellent lefthand drive 1959 Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupéwas imported to the UK from Minnesota, USA in 2011 just afterhaving a 'ground-up' restoration. On arrival to the UK, the car wastaken to Barry Shean Jaguar Specialists in Romford, Essex whochecked the car throughout and carried out a full service. Finishedin old English white with contrasting red leather seats andmatching red carpets, this XK150 Fixedhead Coupé is supplied with aV5C registration document, a copy of the Minnesota titlecertificate and copies of the customs import documents. TheseXK150's are very usable and often overlooked, but their time isapproaching and it will be the prudent investor that has one or twoof these tucked away.?
