1896 $1 Silver Certificate Martha & George Washington "Educational Series" FR-224 Tilman-Morgan Grad

Lot # 706 (Sale Order: 577 of 720)

1896 $1 Silver Certificate Martha & George Washington "Educational Series" FR-224 Tilman-Morgan Grades g+. In 1896, the U.S. Treasury printed Silver Certificates w...moreith beautiful designs depicting educational motifs. Known as the “Educational Series,” each of these notes is a numismatic masterpiece. They’re also incredibly difficult to come by on the front, paired on the back with a first and only in U.S. currency: the portraits of BOTH George and Martha Washington!Due to their theme, these notes became known as “One Dollar Eds” and they feature much more than just History in the form of a reclining woman pointing towards a panoramic view of the Potomac River and Washington, DC with her arm wrapped around Youth represented by the figure a young boy. Besides the images of the Washington Monument and Capitol building, the United States Constitution can be seen on the right side of the bill. Additionally, the last names of important Americans are printed in wreaths that surround the front of the bill. Some of those listed include Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Fulton and Ulysses Grant. Most of the people were included because of their artistic, cultural, or scientific achievements. In the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the $1 Educational Note is ranked #7

***Auction Highlight*** 1853-o Variety-3 Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By USCG

Lot # 711 (Sale Order: 582 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1853-o Variety-3 Gold Liberty Eagle $10 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By USCG. The New Orleans Mint struck 51,000 eagles in 1853, almost all ...moreof which were distributed into circulation. Beginning in 1855, coinage of this denomination slipped even lower when California gold began to be processed at the newly operational San Francisco Mint, and gold deposits in New Orleans declined proportionately. Examples of this Gold Rush-era ten are available in most circulated grades, but Mint State pieces are extremely rare, and are unknown finer than MS61. This au58+ coin displays satiny yellow-gold luster and is surprisingly free of major abrasions; the surfaces instead show slight muting of the luster and scattered small ticks and a few lines -- nothing overly detracting or even noticeable to the unaided eye. A well-struck and pleasing example. This is the Variety 3, which can easily be spotted by the Crazy misplaced o in the shield. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

***Auction Highlight*** 1937-p Texas Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS (f

Lot # 720 (Sale Order: 591 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1937-p Texas Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS. The Texas Centennial half dollar commemorative coin was minted to hono...morer the Centennial of Texas's independence from Mexico. Early in the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, on June 15, 1933, Congress passed an act to authorize the coinage of silver half dollars "in commemoration of the one hundredth anniversary in 1936 of the independence of Texas, and of the noble and heroic sacrifices of her pioneers, whose revered memory has been an inspiration to her sons and daughters during the past century." The Texas commemorative series ran from 1934 thru 1938 and 13 different dates and mint mark combinations were issued. For each of the years 1935 thru 1938, coins were struck at all three Mints; Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. But for the 1934 Texas, only Philadelphia Mint coins were issued. The original issue price was $1.00 per coin. The coin was designed by Pompeo Coppini, a Texan. The obverse depicts an Eagle sitting on a branch in front of the Lone Star, the symbol of Texas. The reverse depicts the goddess Victory spreading her wings over the Alamo. It also depicts Sam Houston on her left and Stephen F. Austin on her right. The Six Flags of Texas fly above her head. Under her it reads REMEMBER THE ALAMO. Over Sam Houston, Victory, and Stephen F. Austin it reads THE TEXAS INDEPENDENCE CENTENNIAL.

PCGS 1870's US Fractional Currency 15¢ Fourth Issue Fr-1269 Blue Right End Bust of Columbia Graded c

Lot # 722 (Sale Order: 593 of 720)

PCGS 1870's US Fractional Currency 15¢ Fourth Issue Fr-1269 Blue Right End Bust of Columbia Graded cu64 PPQ By PCGS. Fractional or postage currency has a rich hist...moreory. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.
