***Auction Highlight*** 1936 Long Island Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEG

Lot # 762 (Sale Order: 627 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1936 Long Island Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS. The Long Island Tercentenary half dollar was a commemorative half ...moredollar struck by the United States Bureau of the Mint in 1936 at the height of the 1930s commemorative craze. There were 100,053 pieces minted.. The obverse depicts a male Dutch settler and an Algonquian tribesman, and the reverse shows a Dutch sailing ship. It was designed by Howard Weinman, the son of Mercury dime designer Adolph A. Weinman. The Long Island Tercentenary Committee wanted a coin to mark the 300th anniversary of the first European settlement there, at modern Flatlands, Brooklyn, New York City. The authorizing bill passed through Congress without opposition. Still, it was amended in the Senate to add protections against past commemorative coin abuses, such as low mintages or an assortment of varieties. On April 13, 1936, the bill became law with the signature of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Most Long Islands are mint state, with the average grade being MS63 to MS65. Superb Gem MS66 examples are fairly difficult to obtain. But MS67 examples are definitely rare. This is probably due to the fact that both the obverse and reverse designs are somewhat flat and marks and abrasions are fairly common. Most Long Islands have frosty luster

PCGS 1863 US Fractional Currency 50¢ First Issue Fr-1312 Washington W/ Monigram Graded cu63 By PCGS

Lot # 772 (Sale Order: 636 of 720)

PCGS 1863 US Fractional Currency 50¢ First Issue Fr-1312 Washington W/ Monigram Graded cu63 By PCGS. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the begi...morenning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

1936 Delaware Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Unc Details

Lot # 778 (Sale Order: 641 of 720)

1936 Delaware Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Unc Details. When examining a Delaware note that most pieces are not fully struck in their centers. Potential weak spots ...moreinclude the lower mainsail (at the coin’s center) and the gable above the arched doorway. to Determine actual wear Look on the lower mainsail and on the gable above the doorway arch. A commemorative coin was approved to mark the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the landing of the Swedes in Delaware. Known as the Delaware Tercentenary Half Dollar, this issue is associated with a confusing array of dates. The date on the obverse is 1936, the coins were struck in 1937, and the anniversary date on the reverse is 1938.The designs for the coin were selected through a competition judged by United States Mint Chief Engraver John R. Sinnock and sculptor Robert Tait Mackenzie. The winning entry was submitted by Carl L. Schmitz. The obverse of the Delaware Half Dollar features an image of the Old Swedes Church, which was dedicated in 1699. The reverse depicts the ship Kalmar Nickel, which brought Swedish settlers to the country. Due to the arrangement of the inscriptions there was some confusion about which side of the coin was the obverse and which was the reverse. Official mint records indicate the side bearing the image of the Old Swedes Church as the obverse. The 1936 Delaware Half Dollars were distributed by the Delaware Swedish Tercentenary Commission for $1.75 each. A minimum production of 25,000 pieces was specified under the authorizing legislation. This entire number was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Eventually, 4,022 unsold pieces were returned to the mint for melting. When examining a Delaware note that most pieces are not fully struck in their centers. Potential weak spots include the lower mainsail (at the coin’s center) and the gable above the arched doorway. to Determine actual wear Look on the lower mainsail and on the gable above the doorway arch.

1938-s Boone Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM Unc

Lot # 784 (Sale Order: 647 of 720)

1938-s Boone Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM Unc. The Daniel Boone Half Dollar was minted to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous frontiersma...moren, explorer, and folk hero. Originally, the coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint to coincide with the bicentennial year. During the next four years, the coins would continue to be struck, across three different mint facilities. On the obverse of the coin is a portrait of Daniel Boone. Since no known portraits of him exist, this is an artists conception created by Augustus Lukeman. The likeness looks decidedly different than the portrait of Boone, which had appeared on the previous 1921 Missouri Centennial Half Dollar. The reverse of the coin features a scene of the frontiersman holding a chart of Kentucky and a musket, facing an American Indian holding a tomahawk. In the background a blockhouse stockade and a sun with rays appear. This was also designed by Augustus Lukeman. Out of the maximum authorized mintage of 600,000 coins, there were only 10,007 of the 1934 Daniel Boone Half Dollars produced and sold at a price of $1.60 each. In the following year, additional coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints carrying the 1935 date. Subsequent to the initial distribution, legislation was passed in Congress stipulating that the original design should be supplemented by adding the bicentennial year “1934” to the reverse of the coin. A smaller number of coins were minted with the “small 1934 on reverse” and came to represent a scarce variety.More coins continued to be minted and issued in 1936, 1937, and 1938. The final two years would have smaller net distribution levels as collectors began to grow weary of the endless string of varieties of the commemorative coin, issued years after the actual bicentennial.

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Stardust 1944 Walker & 1950

Lot # 787 (Sale Order: 649 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Stardust 1944 Walker & 1950 Franklin Ends. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a...more collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.
