2015 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin

Lot # 62 (Sale Order: 42 of 754)

2015 Proof American Silver Eagle 1 oz coin. The American Silver Eagle is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin in production today. It takes its design...more directly from one of the most popular and iconic coins in U.S. history, Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty half-dollar of 1916-1947. Lady Liberty is depicted striding confidently toward a rising sun, draped in the security of the American flag, and carrying laurel and oak branches that symbolize American civic and military power. The reverse of the coin features a new design created expressly for the American Silver Eagle by John Mercanti, the chief engraver at the U.S. Mint. It depicts a proud heraldic eagle placed directly beneath thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies.

1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf+

Lot # 68 (Sale Order: 46 of 754)

1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf+. 1935a $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau Grades. It was the da...morerkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $1 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

1898 Medal Made from The Propeller of Admiral Dewey’s Flagship, USS Olympia Grades Choice Unc

Lot # 70 (Sale Order: 48 of 754)

1898 Medal Made from The Propeller of Admiral Dewey’s Flagship, USS Olympia Grades Choice Unc. Bronze struck medal with obverse showing a navy cruiser with legend:...more "'YOU MAY FIRE WHEN YOU ARE READY, GRIDLEY'/U.S.S. OLYMPIA". Reverse depicts 4-petaled propeller and is inscribed: "MADE FROM PROPELLER OF/ ADMIRAL DEWEY'S FLAGSHIP/ WHICH SERVED IN THE/ BATTLE OF MANILA BAY/ MAY 1, 1898".Example held in both the New York Historical Society Museum, and the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News Virginia. 1898 Medal Made from The Propeller of Admiral Dewey’s Flagship, USS OlympiaJust after midnight on May 1, 1898, the USS Olympia led the United States’s Asiatic Squadron quietly through the calm, glassy waters of the Boca Grande Channel, between the island of Corregidor and the coast of Luzon in the Philippines. The United States was at war with Spain, and the American squadron was preparing to attack a Spanish fleet in Manila Bay.As Sunday morning dawned hours later, the Olympia’s commander, Captain Charles Gridley, waited for the order to fire his ship’s guns. The order would come from the squadron’s commander, Commodore George Dewey, who watched from atop the Olympia’s flying bridge as shore batteries fired harmlessly at the advancing column of American ships. At 5:40 A.M. Dewey finally hailed Gridley with the now-famous words, “You may fire when you are ready, Gridley.”
