Lot # 580 (Sale Order: 505 of 629)

1891 $1 Large Size Silver Certificate Martha Washington Fr-222 Sig Rosecrans-Nebeker Grades g+. Fr. 222 is by far the scarcer note of this two-number type. It's ou...moretnumbered in the census over three to one by its type-mate, Fr. 223. Signatures Rosecrans-Nebeker. Martha Washington is the first and only woman to grace the primary portrait of U.S. paper currency. Martha Washington's image appears on the $1 Silver Certificate. The $1 Certificates were discontinued in 1957. It was the nation's second-longest issued paper money and as the name suggests was backed by the U.S. Government's silver deposits and could be redeemed at any time for silver from the U.S. Treasury. he design began in the summer of 1886. The Galveston Daily News reported on August 17th, 1886, "It is learned at the Treasury Department that the new Silver Certificates authorized at the last session of Congress will not be ready for issue before November, the $1 certificate contains a vignette of Martha Washington." The portrait featured on the currency is based on Charles François Jalabert's portrait of Martha Washingto

***Auction Highlight*** 1880-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms65 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 585 (Sale Order: 510 of 629)

***Auction Highlight*** 1880-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms65 By SEGS. This radiant, platinum-white Gem remains virtually untoned and incredibly lustrous. The fields...more offer an intensely satiny complexion that is nearly proof like, subtly contrasting the more frosty design elements. Magnification fails to reveal anything beyond the smallest trivial ticks, contributing to an overall composure they is surely choice for the assigned grade. Though plentiful in Mint State and released in large quantities by the Treasury throughout the 20th century, the 1880-O is a severe condition rarity in Gem and above. This example is Tied for Finest Known at SEGS with 4 other ms65 coins and PCGS has certified only 9 coins finer than the present MS-65 piece, the pinnacle of which is only slightly higher at MS-66. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1880-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 DMPL By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 587 (Sale Order: 512 of 629)

***Auction Highlight*** 1880-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67 DMPL By SEGS. The 1880-S Morgan dollar enjoyed a generous mintage of 8.9 million pieces, and the issue ...morewas quite well-produced. The 1880-S was well-represented in the Treasury releases of the 1960s and the typical example seen today is sharply struck and brightly lustrous, with strong eye appeal. As a result, the 1880-S is always in demand from mintmark type collectors. All that being said, this magnificent MS67 example stands out as one of the finest examples extant of this remarkably high-quality issue. Razor-sharp definition is evident on all design elements, and the devices have a rich coat of mint frost that creates bold cameo contrast with the deeply reflective proof like fields. The brilliant surfaces are virtually pristine and visual appeal is incredible. A mere One point behind the finest known, the legendary Jack Lee Example. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

*Highlight Of Entire Auction* 1927-s Standing Liberty Quarter 25c Graded ms64 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 593 (Sale Order: 518 of 629)

***Auction Highlight*** 1927-s Standing Liberty Quarter 25c Graded ms64 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION. Up for Auction is the Legendary 1927-s Standing ...moreLiberty Quarter. This is a coin generally found in grades ranging from AG to VG. But today we are proud to bring you this near Gem, ms64 Example. Aside from the first-year 1916 issue, the story of Standing Liberty key dates consists of S-mints: the 1918/7-S overdate, the 1923-S, and finally the 1927-S, which has the second-lowest mintage of any regular issue in the series. The date is decidedly scarce and a borderline condition rarity at the Near Gem level, where this gorgeous example falls. Silver centers have a slightly above-average strike, though Liberty's head is typically soft, and the borders show toning that ranges from pale gold to tan and deep amber and blue. By far the finest we have ever offer. I feel the coin is undergraduate and an ms65 grade would actually be warranted. Stunning Luster. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

***Auction Highlight*** 1795 Lettered Edge C-1 Liberty Cap half cent 1/2c Graded au53 Details By SEG

Lot # 594 (Sale Order: 519 of 629)

***Auction Highlight*** 1795 Lettered Edge C-1 Liberty Cap half cent 1/2c Graded au53 Details By SEGS. The first two decades of the United States Mint's half cent ...moreproduction saw numerous design alterations, both purposeful and unintentional. Though several contemporary denominations exhibit similar diversity, these changes on the half cent sometimes involved the often-overlooked third side of a coin, namely the edge. The earliest half cents of 1795 exhibited a lettered edge, but when the weight of the copper planchets was reduced late in the year it was decided to revert to a plain edge in order to accommodate the reduced thickness and circumvent the difficulty of shrinking the edge lettering. Though largely struck in 1796, these plain edge coins still employed 1795-dated dies and are considered part of that issue. In addition to the two edge types, four distinct obverse types for 1795 are determined by the presence or absence of a pole projecting from Liberty’s neck, and the presence of absence of a die flaw after the first digit of the date. It is the combination of these obverse and edge types that constitute the four prominent varieties that all 1795 half cents can be categorized under: Lettered Edge, With Pole; Lettered Edge, Punctuated Date; Plain Edge, Punctuated Date; Plain Edge, No Pole. Each of these four varieties is of similar rarity in circulated grades, with the Lettered Edge becoming slightly scarcer above Extremely Fine. The example offered today has terrific detail throughout the devices, especially through liberty’s hair. Some of the original color is even peeking through on the obverse. Corrosion requires the details grade, but the wear definitely puts it squarely in the AU53 range. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

1899 $5 Dollar Large Size Silver Certificate Oncpapa Indian Chief FR# 281 Grades vf++

Lot # 595 (Sale Order: 520 of 629)

1899 $5 Dollar Large Size Silver Certificate Oncpapa Indian Chief FR# 281 Grades vf++. The five dollar silver certificate has always been one of the most popular d...moreenominations to collect.  There are several different design types, all of which are quite popular. The 1899 $5 silver certificate is especially popular. The powerful engraving of Running Antelope, Chief of the Oncpapa (Hunkpapa) Lakota Sioux is featured on this large-sized $5 currency note from 1899. This is the first – and only – time a Native American image was used as the central motif on any U.S. paper currency. The central vignette of Running Antelope is highlighted by the bright vibrant blue seal and “V” denoting its denomination. The note caused some ill will among the tribes of the Great Plains when it was issued as it depicted Running Antelope as a chief wearing a Pawnee headdress as the original Lakota headdress was too tall for the engraving. Apparently the engravers at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing weren’t aware that the Lakota and Pawnee were mortal enemies on the Great Plains! Known as Ta-to-ka-in-yan-ka in Lakota, Running Antelope was a close advisor to the great Sitting Bull. As one of four principal “shirt wearers” or chiefs during the Plains Indians Wars, he eventually had a falling out with Sitting Bull because Running Antelope believed that compromise was in his people’s best interests. Certainly one of the most popular currency notes of all time, this note blends United States history and beautiful artwork to form a uniquely American artifact from the turn of the century. While millions of these notes were printed, very few survive today. The 1899 Series $5 Oncpapa Indian Chief Silver Certificate is a must-have for any collector. This fabulous Piece of american history is Fr# 281 Signed By Speelman-White

1879-cc GSA Hoard Morgan Dollar $1 Grades Choice Unc PL

Lot # 597 (Sale Order: 522 of 629)

1879-cc GSA Hoard Morgan Dollar $1 Grades Choice Unc PL. Up for Auction is a Spectacular example of one of the most challenging Carson City Mint Morgan dollar iss...moreues to locate in an original GSA holder. Brilliant and sharply struck, the silver-tinged surfaces also possess strong contrast between satiny devices and appreciably reflective fields. The issue is actually bordering on DMPL, and none have ever been found in DMPL!The low mintage 1879-CC was produced to the extent of just 756,000 pieces, and it is generally regarded as the scarcest Carson City Mint silver dollar of the 1878 to 1885 era. Much of this issue's elusiveness in today's market can be explained by the paucity of examples distributed through the various GSA sales of 1972 to 1980. Only .5% of all GSA Dollars were 1879-cc. Scarce in Choice Mint State, and rare in an original GSA holder, this prooflike beauty is sure to catch the eye of advanced Morgan dollar and/or Carson City Mint enthusiasts. It is Tied for Finest Known in a GSA Holder! The original box and card are included. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. ***Auction Highlight*** 1795 Off-Center Bust BB-51 Draped Bust Dollar $1 Graded vf35 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 598 (Sale Order: 523 of 629)

***Auction Highlight*** 1795 Off-Center Bust BB-51 Draped Bust Dollar $1 Graded vf35 By SEGS. A handsome, fully original example bathed in a warm blend of steel an...mored pewter gray patina. The strike is ideally centered on both sides, all devices bold and the protected areas retaining considerable sharpness of detail. The reverse shows moderate mint-made adjustment marks at the center and margin, but post-strike abrasions are inconsequential for the grade. Believed to be the very first Draped Bust die variety of any denomination, since the misplaced bust (entered too far to the right, relative to the die) would have been a learning experience prior to making B-15. With a pleasingly smooth appearance in hand, this is a highly desirable mid-grade type candidate from the brief and challenging Small Eagle portion of the Draped Bust silver dollar series A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. The 1901 Morgan dollar is much more elusive than its mintage of more than 6...more.9 million pieces would suggest, especially in high grade. Most coins not released into circulation were probably melted in 1918, under the provisions of the Pittman Act.
