Factory Engraved Colt New Line

.32 rf caliber, 2.5" barrel, S/N 4773 (ca. 1874).   Nickel finish, engraved with scrolls and stippled background. Blue screws, Original factory two piece ivory grips. 

**Revolver retains most of the original nickel finish.  Screw heads retain a lot of the high polished blue finish.  Grips are excellent.  Overall excellent.**

Scarce Swedish M1887 Nagant Revolver

Lot # 77 (Sale Order: 77 of 248)      

7.5mm caliber, 4.5" barrel, S.N 2028.  Blued finish with case hardened small parts along with checkered two-piece wood grips.  Blade front sight with grooved topstrap.  Six-shot fluted cylinder.  Right side of frame marked with Swedish military number "LN 5983/A".  Right side of frame marked with "JB" inspection stamp, likely that of Lj...tnant Johan T. Brandt.

Originally ordered from Nagant by the Swedish Army, Nagant delivered around 2,600 pieces before Sweden began domestic manufacture through Husqvarna, which produced around 14,000 pieces.  

**Good condition overall with most of the original blued finish remaining.  Good color remaining on small parts with grips in very good condition.  Lanyard ring missing.  Action is tight and functional with a good bore.  A good example of this hard to fine piece.**

U.S. Model 1889 Campaign Hat of Private George Gregory, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry

Lot # 80 (Sale Order: 80 of 248)      

Tan wool felt with leather sweatband and star-shaped vent holes.  Interior shows maker's stamp of "THE USA".  Also carved into leather of sweatband "GCG Co B".  Front fitted with brass regimental insignia.  

Born May 1880 in Cornell, Illinois, George Gregory at some point moved to Belfield, North Dakota and found work as a laborer.  At the outbreak of war with Spain, 18-year-old Gregory enlisted with Company B of the 1st North Dakota Volunteers. Assigned to General MacArthur's 1st Brigade, the 1st N.D. was placed in the 2nd Division of the 8th Army Corps.  On June 28, 1898 the regiment departed for the Philippines aboard the S.S Valencia and arrived nearly a month later in Manila.  Gregory participated in the Battle of Manila and like many American soldiers, contracted typhoid fever, leaving him convalescent for nearly four months. 

After his recovery, he would continue service in the 1st and fight in several engagements during the Philippine-American War (1898-1902).  In its time in service, members of the regiment earned nine Medals of Honor, with a total of thirty-one casualties.  In July 1899 he left the Philippines and mustered our on August 2nd of that year.

This lot was featured in a October, 2019 issue of Military Trader magazine.

**Fine condition overall.  Some dust and light staining present.**

U.S. Model 1895 Forage Cap of Bert M. Bartlett, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry

Lot # 81 (Sale Order: 81 of 248)      

Blue wool construction with painted leather visor and functional chinstrap secured by two gilt brass eagle buttons.  Polished cotton lining with leather sweatband.  Interior with label reading "167" and hand-written name "B.M. BARTLETT".

Born in Devil's lake, North Dakota, railroadman Bert Bartlett joined Company D of the 1st North Dakota Volunteers and served with it through it's entire tour of duty during the Spanish-American War.

**Fair condition overall.  Cap shows some moderate staining and thinning of fabric throughout with som evidence of insect damage.  Some damage to edges of sweatband and connection to crown from age and insect damage.  Some moderate loss of lining.**

Good German Silver-Mounted American California Bowie Knife

Lot # 83 (Sale Order: 83 of 248)      

6.75" clip  point blade, iron decorated guard with engraved german silver handle.  Marked on the guard with  "SF CA,  M. Gil." , with grip partially covering the stamps.  This knife was found in a gold mine in Elko NV. 

An article included with the lot from the San Francisco Historical Society newsletter states this knife was discovered in a gold mine.

**Knife has been lightly cleaned.  The blade is gray with some light staining.  The handle is excellent. No scabbard. A complete folder of information comes with the knife, including the provenance.**

Plains Beaded Skullcracker Club, Attributed to Crow Foot (Lakota, 1876-1890)

Lot # 84 (Sale Order: 84 of 248)      

25.25" rawhide-covered haft with 4" x 2.5" stone head. Haft decorated in sections of beadwork in white, light blue, red, and tubular red. Some orange coloring remaining on head.

Tag on haft reads "WAR CLUB/BELONGED TO/CROW FOOT-SON/OF SITTING BULL/FROM W.H. KING MUSEUM/HOT SPRINGS, ARK."

Crow Foot, named after the eminent Blackfoot Chief, was the son of Lakota Chief Sitting Bull (T?at?á?kaÍyotake) of the Hunkpapa Lakota. He was known as being wise for his age, not wishing to join the other boys in their games as young men usually did. At the behest of his father, he was educated in a Congregational day school and learned to read and write English.

Crow Foot was killed alongside his father on December 15, 1890 at the Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota. Several accounts of his death have been published, with varying degrees of involvement (or lack thereof) by Crow Foot.

Visible numbers matching.  Blued finish with military stock.  Right of barrel shows two-line C.A.I. import address. Blade front sight with tangent rear sight.  Receiver marked with Swedish crown and royal monogram, Carl Gustav manufacture marks, and 1905 date.  Includes bayonet.

**Very good condition overall.  Some minor wear to finish with stock showing blemishes consistent with surplus arms.  Bore is bright with good rifling.**

.30-40 Krag caliber, 30" barrel, S/N 57450.  Blued finish with walnut stock.  Blade front sight with correct Model 1896 rear sight.  Stock cartouche barely visible.

**Good condition overall.  Most of the blued finish remains on barrel with receiver taking on a mixed pewter/gunmetal patination.  Stock has some blemishes and handling marks with cartouche unreadable, but still retains a feathery finish.  Bore is good with visible edges to rifling.**

**NRA Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine

30-40 caliber, 22" round barrel, S/N 475998,  Left side of receiver is marked near the safety "22 Cal", indicating its original life as a .22 caliber rifle subsequently converted to carbine configuration and sold through NRA sales.  Lyman peep sight attach to the back of the bolt head.  1896 rifle rear barrel sight and proper handguard to accommodate the sight.  Krag carbine stock with faint cartouche and firing proof. 

**Overall very good.  Bore is very good and mechanically good.**

**Rare Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Engineer's Carbine

Receiver retains a blue finish applied at the armory when they converted these 1899 Carbines for use by the Engineer Battalions and Signal Corp attachments.  Barreled action retains most of the arsenal blue finish.  Bore is bright and shiny.  Mechanically excellent. Stock has nice dark open grained wood. Overall an excellent rare carbine.**

The receiver retains most of the mottle blue case hardened finish.  Barrel retains most of the blue finish just lightly fading.  Comes with a Bayonet and scabbard with date 1897.

**Springfield Model 1898 Krag Rifle

.30-40 caliber, 30" barrel length, S/N 416431.  Blued finish with mottled blue receiver.  Walnut stock and handguard.  Crisp "JSA/1900" cartouche, and firing proof circle "P" behind the triggerguard. 

**Very good condition overall.  The barrel retains most of the original blue finish mixing with some spots of pitting between the rear barrel band and the front band. The receiver has a dark mottle look.  Stock has nice opened grained look with a crisp cartouche and firing proof behind the triggerguard.   The bore is good.**

Receiver marked with Model 1898 Springfield manufacturing marking and serial number. 1901 rear barrel sight.  Walnut stock with walnut handguard.  Sharp and crisp firing proof, left side of wrist shows "JSA/1902" cartouche. Has an original leather sling.

**Barrel retains a lot of the original blue finish.  Stock is excellent.  Bore is very good with nice rifling.**

**Philippine Constabulary U.S. Model 1899 Krag-Jorgensen Carbine with Bayonet

Lot # 96 (Sale Order: 96 of 248)      

30-40 caliber, 22" round barrel, S/N 350764, fitted with 1901 Carbine rear sight, blue finish with walnut stock and handguard.  The muzzle is properly turned to take the rifle bayonet.  There were 4,074 produced at Springfield and 4,980 made at Manila arsenal and 613 made at Rock Island Arsenal.  The bayonet handle is marked "PC/2" indicating issue to a Philippine unit.   

**Carbine still retains most of the arsenal blue finish.  The stock has been lightly cleaned.  The bore is very good and is mechanically good.  These carbines are very rare and great item for the Military collector.**

**Springfield Model 1899 Krag Carbine

Lot # 97 (Sale Order: 97 of 248)      

.30-40 caliber, 22" round barrel, S/N 288634.  Mottled blue finish with walnut stock with excellent JSA/1899 cartouche.  Correct '96 carbine marked rear barrel sight with correct handguard and headless cocking piece.    Circle "P" firing proof behind the triggerguard. 

**Barrel retains most of the original blue finish.  Receiver is nice untouched mottle blue to gray.  Triggerguard retains most of the bright niter blue finish.  Buttplate is sharp and crisp with traces of original blue finish.  Front band with all of the niter blue finish and a crisp "U".  Bore is very good with excellent mechanics. Stock and forearm retain a nice open grained look, with few nicks and dings.  Overall this is a very good to excellent Krag carbine and a very rare piece to find in this condition.**

**Colt Model 1901 Revolver of Philippine Constabulary Major Lemuel Boren

Lot # 98 (Sale Order: 98 of 248)      

.38 caliber, 5.5" barrel, S/N 141242 (ca. 1900).  Blued finish with two-piece walnut grips.  Barrel marked with caliber and two-line Colt address.  Six-shot fluted cylinder.  Frame above left grip marked with "L.E.B" initials of Lemuel Boren as well as regular "R.A.C." inspection stamp of Renaldo A. Carr, with same on bottom of left grip.  

Lemuel Evans Boren, a Tennessee native, first traveled to the Philippines as a Corporal with Company G of the 4th Tennessee Volunteers for service in the Spanish American War (April 1898-December 1898).  After mustering out, he returned and served in the Philippine Constabulary fo nine years.  Record show that Boren rose quickly through the ranks, climbing from Cadet to Major in eight years.  Completing his service in that organization, he then returned to the United States and married.  Continuing his military career in the Texas National Guard, he also saw service in the Mexican Border conflict and even joined the U.S. Regulars for service in the First World War with Texas troops in the 42nd Division, taking the rank of Captain which he retained until his retirement in 1920.  Boren died in March of 1961, and is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

This pistol was featured in a July, 2017 issue of Military Trader magazine.

**Fine condition overall.  Some minor wear and thinning of blued finish on working parts and sharp edges, showing some holster wear.  Grips are in fine condition and show wear and handling blemishes consistent with use.  Action is tight and functional with a bright bore showing some edges to rifling.**

**Colt Model 1902 Sporting Pistol

Lot # 100 (Sale Order: 100 of 248)      

.38 ACP caliber, 6" barrel, S/N 32702 (ca. 1905).  Blued finish with Colt logo hard rubber grips.  Left side of slide marked with patent dates and two-pine Colt address.  Colt pony rear of slide serrations.

**Fair condition overall.  Nearly all of the blued finish has faded away leaving an even salt and pepper gunmetal brown patination.  Some moderate wear to grips.  Action is slightly sticky with a somewhat dark bore showing worn but visible rifling.  A good example of a well-loved Colt 1902.**
