CRISTOPH KUCHENREITER PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOL

Lot # 348 (Sale Order: 351 of 656)      

SERIAL NUMBER N/A BARREL 9 3/4" CALIBER .50 RIFLED MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1840's. Bavarian Gun Making royalty , The Kuchenreiter family in Regensburg Bavaria whom were master gunsmiths for many generations. This example made in the 1840's by Christoph Kutchenreiter with tapered octagon barrel , percussion lock and fluted square butt walnut stock is silver wire inlaid on barrel "CHRISTOPH KUTCHENREITER" with addition silver inlays of scroll at breech and emanating to muzzle. The breech is finely engraved in foliate with a stylized "1" indicating it was part of a pair. The lock is engraved in tight scrolls with the same "1" at the forward lip of the lock. The bore is finely rifled with a multi groove rifling of approx, 30 lands and grooves. The breech has a petite 3 leaf target sight at rear . Ornate finger rest trigger guard with full coverage engraving. Iron butt cap with matching engraving. CONDITION, Very good as attic found. The pistol is totally untouched and would benefit from a detailed cleaning. Action operates properly, Stock is very finer , exterior metal has a coat of old dried oil and is very good. ANTQUE TDW

Profusely engraved percussion lock with scrolls and a winged devil at center. One piece walnut stock with set trigger and small adjustable rear sight. Butt cap and trigger guard are profusely engraved. CONDITION. Good with exterior oxidation with period bruises and impressions. The lock operates properly. Fluted octagon barrels with top flat marked " JOSEPH VIVARIO FET a LIEGE" Modestly engraved with scrolls on top flats of barrel and at muzzle. The Belgian pattern stocks are profusely relief carved and fluted with foliate and vine. The finger rest trigger guards are engraved to match. The bores are smooth as all parlor guns are. L&R brown finished flint lock. Striped maple one piece stock with brass furniture, ugly face butt cap and barrel retained by 2 keyed wedges. Signed in script on top barrel flat "D.HUGHES" Pistol closely resembles a Knoll Pa, flint pistol of the 1810 period. CONDITION. SERIAL NUMBER 17667 BARREL3" CALIBER .22 LONG MANUFACTURED CIRCA 1870's. Manufactured by Smith & Wesson with blue finished frame and barrel with 7 shot fluted cylinder. Birds head griped with 2 piece rosewood grips. Case colored hammer , trigger and spur trigger. Retailer marked by "Pd CLAUDIN PARIS" The Smith & Wesson Model 1 3rd issue was the final evolution of the top break small bore Smith & Wesson until the introduction of the Ladysmith variation nearly 30 years later. Pistol is housed in a leather covered and brass studded French partitioned travel case with crushed velvet lining with gold stenciled retailers label. Smith & Wesson saw great success in the European market with these small revolvers and this success would continue through the WW1 period. CONDITION, Very fine with the revolver showing little actual use with a bright sharp bore and properly operating action. The frame retains over 97% factory blue while the barrel and cylinder have suffered from flaking with 75% blue finish remaining. The retailers engraved markings on the barrel gullets are crisp and legible. The action operates properly and locks solidly. European retailer cased Smith & Wesson's are not commonly encountered. Deluxe engraved in the L,D, Nimscke style with Germanic inspired scrolls with dogs heads on both sides of frame with eagles head on right side of barrel bolster and additional dogs head on left side of barrel bolster. Backstrap and trigger guard are both silver washed with Nimscke style scrolls and borders. Varnished one piece burl walnut grips. Early production Colt Navy revolver produced in 1855 just as the Mexican war had ended. Embellishment is not factory but is believed to be California dealer executed. CONDITION, Very good with Blue finish having toned to a plumish grey, the cylinder retains most all cylinder scene. The frame retains shadows of the case colors. Serial numbered on but with matching assembly numbers on barrel, cylinder and frame. Factory fitted with lanyard swivel and outfitted with a great pair of "Snake & Eagle" carved ivory 2 piece grips. Single action operation. CONDITION, Good with excellent bright bore with some light oxidation in grooves. Action operates properly. This example, produced in 1854 with octagon barrel, Naval engagement cylinder scene with varnished walnut one piece grips, has the case colored loading lever, frame and hammer. Blue finished barrel cylinder and grip straps. Top barrel flat marked "ADDRESS COL, COLT LONDON" matching serial numbers on all numbered parts. and is housed in a contemporary partitioned English display box with flask, mold , caps and balls. CONDITION. Good with very fine bore and chambers. Retains most all cylinder scene. Has traces of blue finish in protected areas. Excellent operating action with solid lock-up and very fine varnished grips. Many of the London made Colt's made their way to the South during the Civil War as England was a great friend and ally to the Southern Cause. SERIAL NUMBER 193473 BARREL 8" CALIBER .44 PERCUSSION MANUFACTURED 1871. The most prevalent .44 caliber revolver of the civil War, examples being factory presented to heads of state as well as Commanding Officers from numerous Armies in the US and abroad. The Colt Model 1860 Army model revolver was a pivotal commercial success and eventually evolving into the iconic Colt Single Action Army of American western fame. Finished with polished blue barrel and backstrap with cylinder embellished with the W,M, Ormsby rolled Naval Engagement battle scene. Trigger guard is silver plated and frames, hammers and loading levers were color case hardened. This example has been extensively engraved in the Gustav Young style with scroll and vine with dot punch backgrounds at muzzle breech, backstrap hammer and loading lever. The frame is engraved with what amounts to full coverage. The silver plated trigger guard assembly has been engraved to match with geometric diamond pattern borders and scrolls on the guard itself. The revolver has been mounted with an outstanding set of one piece carved ivory grips with large relief carved Federal Eagle with American shield. The quality of the work is outstanding and certainly done by a master artisan. All this done on an original Colt model 1860 Army revolver creating a stunning example of mechanical art. CONDITION, Extremely fine with near new bore and chambers, The revolver retains 99% of its contemporary finishes. SERIAL NUMBER 54250 BARREL 5 1/2" CALIBER .45 COLT MANUFACTURED 1880. Manufactured by Colt for the US Gov't. Originally shipped as a Cavalry Model with 7-1/2" barrel. Later returned to US Gov't Armory's and officially modified to the newer updated Artillery Model with shortened barrel and updated ejector rod. These revolvers continued to serve the US Military with great distinction until replaced with the 1892 Colt .38 Double Action. This example with properly shortened barrel with single line Colt barrel address and bold US stamp on left side of frame. Serial numbered on frame 54250 with DFC David Clark stamp, the trigger guard assembly is numbered 6493 with Ainsworth inspector "A" stamp (Custer era), backstrap numbered 48655, barrel numbered 0011 with DFC David Clark inspector mark, cylinder has no visible number but is also DFC inspected. . This is correct as no attention paid to serial numbers during the modification process by US Gov't amours. David F. Clark was the primary Colt inspector until 1886. CONDITION. Good with revolver having toned to a dove grey finish with very good bore and chambers. Action operates properly and locks solidly.
