(C) A RARE RUSSIAN CONTRACT COLT 1911 .45 ACP SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH FACTORY LETTER (1916).

Lot # 1255 (Sale Order: 253 of 460)

Manufactured in March 1916 as per factory letter from Colt. According to Clawson, Russia started acquiring 1911s in February 1916, making this an early shipment. Russia ultimately ended up funneling most of the purchases through Britain, which were marked in Cyrillic on the dust cover; as a direct shipment from Colt, this gun was not marked as such. Half-moon front sight, U notch flat top rear sight. 2 line 2 block patent dates and Colt information on left side of slide, Rampant Colt at rear of slide. Right side with "COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 45". Frame with "GOVERNMENT MODEL / C 303558". Checkered spur hammer, left side only safety, slide release, and magazine release. Short 1911 grip safety, flat smooth mainspring housing with lanyard loop. 2 piece truncated diamond walnut grips. Two-tone magazine with lanyard loop. These rare guns were shipped into Murmansk and Archangel before distribution to Russian forces; beyond that little of their history is known, however, there is one account that a 1911 was used to kill the Romanovs. Accompanied by an unmarked leather holster with single belt loop and retaining nub; given the wear pattern, this 1911 has been in the holster for some time. Also accompanied by a scan of a Colt factory letter listing this pistol by serial number as being shipped to Russia March 31st, 1916. CONDITION: Good, considering that most of these pistols are found in well used condition. Retains approximately half of the factory blue finish with losses at high edges, grip straps, and across top of the slide, consistent with holster wear. Magazine in commensurate condition. Lower left grip screw marred but grips do not have discernible cracks. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with strong rifling and heavy frosting. There is a small import mark on the magazine well indicating import by Simpson Ltd, Galesburg, IL. Holster is fair with crazing and areas of heavy rubbing. Toe has come loose and retained only by a few stitches; exercise caution. EW Accessories: Holster Barrel Length: 5" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1911 Paperwork: Factory Letter Serial Number: C30358

Lot # 1256 (Sale Order: 254 of 460)

Finnish VKT L-35 Lahti semi automatic pistol with holster. Made early 1944 as a "series 3" gun. "V" prefix, meaning it was rejected by military inspectors and then sold on the commercial market. This explains the lack of a boxed "SA" Finnish Army stamp. Rear grip strap is milled for a shoulder stock. Top of the slide is marked "VKT" in diamond and "L-35". Small Simpson LTD import mark on the bottom of the magazine well. Matching serials on the frame, slide and charging handle. Original blade front sight with u-notch rear. Original military dull blue finish. Brown plastic, checkered grips with "VKT" in diamonds on each panel. Includes two correct Finnish magazines left in the white, with blued base plates. Also included is a Finnish Army marked boxed "SA" brown leather holster. Holster retains its original cleaning rod and take down tool. (C) FINNISH ARMY MARKED VKT LAHTI L-35 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH UNIFORM & ACCESSORIES.

Lot # 1257 (Sale Order: 255 of 460)

Finnish VKT L-35 Lahti semi automatic pistol with stock, holster and uniform. Made 1941 as a "series 1" pistol. Top of the slide is marked with a boxed "SA" Finnish Army stamp, then "VKT" in a diamond, followed by "L-35" and then another boxed "SA" Finnish Army stamp. Simpson LTD import mark on the bottom of the magazine well. Serials on the slide and frame match. Charging handle does not match being "1845" (still a series one part). This may be the result of a field replacement. Correct blade front sight with u-notch rear. Original military dull blue finish. Brown plastic checkered grips with "VKT" in diamonds on each panel. Back strap is correctly milled for a shoulder stock, which were never actually issued in numbers. Included is a slightly modified Luger style "flat board" stock. Stock does not fit correctly, which is correct. Stock is unmarked, and has a reapplied light stain finish. 2 magazines are included, 1 being a correct Finnish magazine (left in the white, with a blued bottom), with the second most likely being a Swedish production magazine (all blued). Correct green leather flap holster is included. This holster has provisions to carry the stock in the rear, similar to an Artillery Luger stock. Holster is unmarked and retains an original take down tool and brass cleaning rod. Also included is a World War II era Finnish Infantry officers uniform with belt rig. Uniform includes a heavy field tunic and correct knickers. CONDITION: Metal retains 90% of its original finish with light edge wear and handling marks. Grips are excellent. Bore is clean with sharp rifling. Mechanically excellent. Stock is excellent with a few handling marks. Magazines are very good with light wear. Holster has some light wear, with excellent stitching and light crazing on the tab and flap. Uniform looks to be very good overall with good stitching throughout. Belt rig has light crazing, but is very good. This a quite complete rig and would make an excellent condition to any World War II collection. JWA Accessories: Holster, stock, uniform Barrel Length: 4 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: VKT Model: Lahti L-35 Serial Number: 3373

CORRECTION: This uniform lot belonged to major Berndt Gustav von Hertzen.
