(C) SMITH & WESSON U.S ISSUED AIRCREWMAN .38 SPECIAL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER.

Lot # 1237 (Sale Order: 235 of 460)

Black anodized finish with 2" barrel, serrated ramp front sight, notch rear sight. Case colored hammer and trigger. Flat latch and pinned barrel. Diamond checkered grips with Smith and Wesson medallions. Left side of top strap reads "REVOLVER, LIGHTWEIGHT, M13", backstrap "PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE". "P" proof on left side of frame, under cylinder. Matching numbers on butt and rear of cylinder. inside of right grip stamped with partial serial. Barrel legend is simply ".38 SPL. CTG" indicating replacement. Some white infill has been used to highlight backstrap legends. These rare revolvers were procured by the United States Air Force and were specially made out of aluminum to be extremely lightweight and thus ideal for air crews; unfortunately, because of their extreme light weight and aluminum construction, normal .38 Special would cause cylinders to rupture unless run with special M41 low pressure .38 Special. CONDITION: Very good retaining the vast majority of the factory bluing on the frame and cylinder with strong shadowing around proofs; some normal marks from handling and operation. Trigger and hammer retain virtually all of their case colors with a few spots of age related patina. Checkering is somewhat rough. Barrel is very good. Action works appropriately when operated by hand, bore has strong rifling. (C) WEBLEY FOSBERY SEMI-AUTOMATIC .455 TARGET REVOLVER, PURCHASED BY CAPTAIN CHARLES C. L. TAYLOR OF

Lot # 1238 (Sale Order: 236 of 460)

Manufactured April 21st, 1914, as per Milner Database information sheet, which also lists Taylor purchasing the pistol as part of a shipment of five. Milner also notes that price paid indicates a target model. Matching full or partial numbers observed on right side of frame, left side of frame under grips, on right grip scale, rear of cylinder, and on some internals visible when grips removed. Classic configuration with six-shot cylinder in .455 with top break and distinctly cut cylinder that interacts with stud on top strap to advance the cylinder during firing sequence. Blade front sight stamped "20 YDS" on right side of blade, target U notch rear dovetailed with break lever. Checkered trigger Metford rifling. Marked on top strap with "P. WEBLEY & SON. LONDON & BIRMINGHAM.", left side with "WEBLEY FOSBERY". Frame with Webley winged bullet and ".455 CORDITE". Sides of the hammer are checkered, as is the trigger. Checkered grips with rotatable lanyard loop. Appropriate Birmingham proofs. Taylor's service record spans from the South African War in 1899 (Boer War) through the end of World War I, with numerous awards including Queen's Medal with three clasps, Kings Medal with two clasps, and the Distinguished Service Order. Taylor appears to have retired circa 1918 as a Major and later a Brevete Lieutenant Colonel. Accompanied by a folder of documentation concerning Taylor. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and cylinder assembly retaining much bluing mostly towards the rear, barrel mostly a pleasing patina. Frame blue has largely faded with just flashes of blue mixing with patina. Barrel has one minor area of old oxidation. One pair of nicks on right side of barrel and cylinder assembly. Other normal handling marks throughout. Grips are attractive and full sized but appear to have had an extra layer of varnish added that has filled some of the checkering. Bore is very good, bright and shiny, action works appropriately when gently operated by hand. A very interesting example of the iconic Webley Fosbery. EW Barrel Length: 6" Caliber/Bore: .455 Cordite FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Webley Fosbery Model: Semi-Automatic Revolver Paperwork: Provenance Serial Number: 3901

(C) RARE P. WEBLEY & SON WEBLEY-FOSBERY .38 ACP AUTOMATIC REVOLVER.

Lot # 1239 (Sale Order: 237 of 460)

Matching full or partial numbers observed on right side of frame, front face of cylinder, left side of frame, and some internal parts visible when grips are removed. Rare .38 ACP variation with 8 shot cylinder, top break, and iconic "zig zag" cut cylinder that interacts with cocking stud across top strap and advances the cylinder during the firing sequence. Simple U notch rear sight integral with top break. Hammer checkered on sides and spur. "WEBLEY FOSBERY" on left side of top strap, rib marked "P. WEBLEY & SON. LONDON & BIRMINGHAM". Normal Birmingham proof marks throughout. Smooth trigger. Hard rubber grips, left with relief scallop cut for safety lever, with "SAFE" cast in and visible when safety articulated. Rotatable lanyard loop at butt. Accompanied by an unmarked shamrock green fabric sleeve, presumably for storage. CONDITION: Good. Gun retains much of the original factory blue, perhaps half, with most on frame and around cylinder, with some normal age-related patina throughout. Someone has wiped down the barrel with cold blue or equivalent over some old inactive oxidation, starting from approximately the starting slope of the barrel and running to the muzzle. Lanyard loop has worn a distinct ring around the butt and grips. Right grip scale has a small split at base. Action works appropriately (although ejector star needs some encouragement to "snap" back in on break), bore has strong rifling but the is a distinct bulge approximately 2 - 1/4" down the barrel with a ring that can be seen from interior. Very few of these guns were manufactured in .38 ACP and finding them at all is exceedingly difficult. Accessories: Fabric Sleeve Barrel Length: 6" Caliber/Bore: .38 ACP FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Webley & Son Model: Webley-Fosbery Serial Number: 1311
